  1. On my original playthrough: Gardevoir, Blaziken, Metagross On my Gen 1 run: Arcanine, Golem(maybe), Butterfree(Why not? Swept Kiki and Noel...)
  2. Nicely done. In hardcore, is the mirror field not active? I didn't see you break it at all...
  3. With such a great learnset and stats, Arcanine is the reason I didn't go with Charmander in the beginning... Update 12: Inferior overleveled bosses Red found the Pokemart just outside the woods. He bought the medicine and made his way back to the hideout. When given the medicine, Anna poured it on her Jirachi doll. Red started to head back to the Pokemart to buy more medicine, but Anna somehow appeared to be feeling better. Anna said that her doll told her Red should get as many badges as possible, and kept nagging him to challenge Noel. Eventually, they both gave in. Everyone gathered outside, with Charlotte acting as the referee. She was about to start the match, when a woman who looked similar to her and Laura flew overhead on a Dragonite. Everyone gathered around her, and she was introduced as Saphira, the eldest sister of Charlotte and another gym leader. Charlotte told her how she and the other orphans had escaped from Sigmund's orphanage with the help of Red and Shelly. Saphira told her that Sigmund and a group of Team Meteor grunts were on their way to retake the orphans. Saphira rode off on her Dragonite to deal with the grunts crossing the lake. Anna and Noel hid upstairs, with Laura guarding them. Shelly and Charlotte hid in the kitchen, and Red took up a defensive position in front of the main entrance. Soon, Sigmund and two orderlies entered. Sigmund sent his orderlies upstairs. Knowing they probably wouldn't be a threat to a member of the Elite 4, Red blocked Sigmund's path, sending out Geodette. Sigmund sent out Jolteon. It attempted to avoid Geodette's attacks with Double Team, but Geodette saw through it and knocked out Jolteon with an Earthquake. Red then switched in Somno as Sigmund sent out Lanturn. Lanturn hit Somno with a Signal Beam, but fell asleep as Somno used Sleep Powder. Somno was able to use Quiver Dance five times before Red needed to heal Somno. After that, a quick Bug Buzz knocked Lanturn out of the fight. Sigmund sent in Electrivire. Somno's Bug Buzz brought it to the brink of fainting, but its Thunder Punch knocked out Somno in one hit. Red sent in Geodette. Sigmund tried healing his Electrivire with an Ultra Potion, but it still fell to a single Earthquake. Sigmund sent in his Electross next. It missed with Crush Claw, and was smashed into the ground with Smack Down. Its Crunch failed to do any significant damage, and it fainted to an Earthquake. Sigmund sent in Luxray next. It used Swagger, confusing Geodette, but Geodette still hit it with Earthquake. Not wanting to push his luck with confusion, Red sent in Blaine as Sigmund sent out Rotom. Rotom hit Blaine with a Discharge, and received a Crunch in return. Rotom's next attack, Ominous Wind, failed to knock out its target. Blaine's next Crunch, however, was a different story. With that, Sigmund was defeated. The orderlies running downstairs and out the door meant Laura had protected her area as well. Sirius entered. He told Sigmund not to expect any help from his grunts, as they had been attacked on the water by Saphira and were in no condition to fight. Seeing Sigmund defeated and having been beaten by Red once already, Sirius acknowledged that they couldn't beat Red. However, he told Sigmund that they should split up, since that way, Red would only be able to block one of them. Sirius moved towards the stairs, while Sigmund moved towards the kitchen. Red used common sense and guarded the otherwise vulnerable kitchen, while Sirius went upstairs, where Laura was waiting. At that moment, Saphira entered. She noticed Sigmund being restrained by Red, and began shoving Sigmund around the room. She started venting, bringing up all the pain caused to her and her sisters. When Sigmund tried to justify his actions using his warped idea of protection, Saphira sent out her Dragonite, and had it blast Sigmund through the wall with Hyper Beam. Neither she nor Red noticed Sirius's Seviper until it was too late. Sirius dragged her unconcious body out the door, saying he wasn't leaving empty handed after the damage that had been done. Laura and the twins came downstairs, and Charlotte and Shelly emerged from the kitchen. Laura recalled some men in black installing large metal structures in Tanzan cave several months ago, saying Saphira had probably been taken there. In the cave, there seemed to be tremors coming from the ground every few minutes. Red and Laura ran through the cave. They came across a large metal gate. While looking for a switch for the gate, Laura lost her balance during a tremor and fell onto a clump of rocks. The gate opened. Red and Laura split up in the Meteor base. Red eventually came to the holding cells, where all the guards were unconscious and there was a large hole in one of the walls. After seeing what Saphira had done to Sigmund, what had happened seemed fairly obvious to Red. Red followed the trail of destruction until he found Saphira and Laura in the control room. They had just finished unlocking all of the doors in the facility. The three split up, looking for any sort of secret project that needed to be sabotaged. While clearing out the grunts in the factory, Red came across Simon, one of the grunts Charlotte had befriended. He didn't try to fight Red, saying Tara, his partner, had been killed by the woman on the Dragonite while they were on the lake. He vowed to get revenge on her as he left. Red met up with Saphira and Laura in a room containing Zel, Sirius, Sigmund, and a PULSE machine connected to an Abra. Zel told Red about how the machine was responsible for everything disappearing and reappearing in the surrounding area, and that they couldn't control the machine. When Saphira started threatening Sigmund again, Zel managed to get the Abra under control just long enough to teleport Saphira away. When Sirius asked Zel where she had gone, Zel responded that he had no idea. Sirius told Zel to get Laura and Red out of there before Lin came in. The mention of this Lin person caused Zel to start frantically hitting buttons at the keyboard. Without warning, Red and Laura were transported to a dark cave. They found their way to a chasm. Laura called out, and Saphira answered, saying she was stuck at the bottom with a bunch of toxic waste, most likely dumped there by Team Meteor. Just then, a massive tremor occurred. Red and Laura looked behind them, and saw that a tunnel had been dug straight through the rock. Laura went to check it out, while Red looked for something he could use to get Saphira out of the chasm. Suddenly, he heard Laura scream. Red hurried over, and saw a Steelix the size of a four-story building. Laura was unconscious. Saphira thought it must have grown from all the toxic waste, and told Red she had a plan. She just needed him to subdue the Steelix. Red sent out Geodette. Steelix hit her hard with Iron Head, but she hung on with Sturdy and used Bulldoze, slowing down the Steelix. She used a second, slowing it down further, before falling to and Earthquake. Red sent in his shiny new Magneton. Magneton used its Sturdy ability to get in two Metal Sounds before falling to Steelix's attacks. Finally, Red sent out Blaine. The Steelix seemed to be laughing at Blaine... until it was blasted in the face with a mighty Heat Wave. The Steelix cried out in pain and sank to the bottom of the chasm. A minute later, it slowly rose up again, this time with Saphira on its head. Red grabbed Laura and joined her. When they got out of the cave, Saphira told Laura to go home. Then she sent Red to deal with the PULSE Abra, while she did some damage to the base. Red agreed. He returned to the room with the PULSE. Zel and Sirius were still struggling with the Abra, while Sigmund was in the corner, muttering to himself. Zel noticed Red, and offered him a deal. They would not interfere with Red as he left if he could destroy the PULSE machine. This would also be beneficial to the surrounding area. Red accepted. After the Pulse Abra hit Blaine with a Hyper Beam, Demonslayer sealed its fate with Perish Song. zEl explained that now, things in the area should gradually calm down. Suddenly, Lin, the boss of Team Meteor, walked in, demanding a report from Sirius. Red saw that she was one of the individuals pictured on Shade's screens. However, with the aura of malice around her, Red didn't think that was such a bad thing. After Sirius explained that the project with Abra had been terminated, Lin asked who Red was. Sirius said he was a new recruit, and Zel whispered that Red should just go with it, or everyone in the room would be slaughtered. Lin didn't seem to buy it, but at that moment, a grunt entered, saying a giant Steelix was attacking the base. As if on cue, the entire mountain shook. Lin left to deal with the Steelix, and Red decided it was a good idea for him to leave as well. On his way back, he saw Lin on a Hydregion facing Saphira on the giant Steelix. They seemed to be exchanging words, but Red couldn't hear from where he was standing. Then, Hydregion let out a massive burst of energy, and Steelix crashed into the mountain, motionless. Back at the house, Charlotte refused to believe her sister hadn't survived, saying her family didn't die that easily. Anna asked what had happened to her parents. Laura started to explain that they had died in a fire, but Charlotte ran off. Laura ran after her. Anna suggested that Red and Noel have their battle now. Knowing Anna would keep pestering them until they battled, they headed outside. Red sent out Somno, while Noel sent in Wigglytuff. Then Wigglytuff slept and Somno danced. Six times, because Red remembered what had happened the last time Somno had only danced five times. After two Psybeams, Wigglytuff fainted. After 4 more attacks from Somno, Noel was down to Clefable, his ace. Clefable was put to sleep, and then fainted to two Psybeams. With that, the match was ended. The Team:
  4. Update 11: Seven years of bad luck As soon as they got outside, Heather sent out her Salamence. Without a word, Heather jumped on its back and flew off. Cain ran after her to make sure she wouldn't get in trouble. Red and the others continued their way to Charlotte's family's house. Anna said her Jirachi doll wasn't feeling well, but seemed to be sick herself. The group hurried on. When they arrived at the hidden cove, Red was introduced to Laura, Charlotte's sister and a member of the Elite 4. Anna was taken upstairs, and Red was asked to go buy some medicine from the Pokemart. Red walked through the forest. He came to a dead end. He turned around. The way he came was now a dead end. He turned around again. It was no longer a dead end. Not seeing any choice, Red continued through the forest. Several hours later, he came across a cave. He explored it, leaving Pokeballs as trailmarkers, and found the diary of a man who had been lost in the cave. The diary made two requests: to tell his daughter in Mysidia what happened to him, and to take care of the Pokemon in the cave that was to be her gift. Red left the cave with an Eevee in his party. Red eventually made it to town. There was a train in the middle of it. Things were randomly glowing, disappearing, and reappearing in other places. Red walked over to a nearby fountain to splash water in his face. It disappeared. Getting tired of this town, Red walked up to the Pokecenter. It also disappeared. He heard a crash somewhere. He looked and saw a mansion with a Pokemart on its balconey. Red was about to knock on the door when it opened. A boy with glasses dressed in orange stepped out, saying he needed to see what had just made the loud noise in the mansion. He saw the Pokecenter. He introduced himself to Red as Bennet, and invited Red in. There, he met Bennet's mother, Serra, who was also the gym leader of the town. Red explained that he needed access to the Pokemart. Serra offered to let Red stay in the mansion while they waited for the Pokemart to move to a more accessible location. Seeing Red's badges, she also offered Red a gym battle. Just then, a knock was heard at the door. A man in a white robe walked in. He introduced himself as El, and said he was searching for his daughter, Luna. Serra said that she used to live with them as an adopted daughter, but had recently left. Bennett seemed shy about the subject. He changed the subject, offering El a seat in Red and Serra's league battle. Serra walked into her battle arena. Red followed, easily solving the gym puzzle. He noted that every surface was covered in mirrors. In the last room before the arena, he was met by Bennett and El. Bennett challenged Red to a battle, as part of his training to become a gym leader. Red led with Geodette, while Bennet sent out a Larvesta. Geodette, while taking minimal damage, set up Stealth Rocks. Geodette then used Earthquake, and the mirrors all shattered, knocking out Larvestra and dealing a large amount of damage to Geodette as well. With the Stealth Rocks dealing a huge chunk of damage to all of Bennet's Pokemon, Red's team had a definite advantage, and Bennet was defeated. El said that both of them had been blessed by Arceus. He also recommended that Bennet set his goal higher than being a gym leader, and said that if Bennet trained hard, he could help him join the Elite 4. Bennet took El into the viewer's room as Red entered the battlefield. This room was also covered in mirrors, which Red thought might be a problem, as it could potentially cause issues with his Pokemons' accuracy. Red led with Blaine against Serra's Cryoganol. Cryogonal struck first with a Flash Cannon, which was strengthened by the mirrors, Blaine retaliated with a Heat Wave. Serra healed Cryogonal, but it was hit with another Heat Wave. Cryoganal used Reflect. Blaine used Heat Wave, which initially missed, but was reflected off the mirrors, hitting Cryogonal anyways. Red decided he had already had enough of the mirrors. He sent out Geodette as Serra sent out Jynx. Jynx hit Geodette with a Frost Breath, but Geodette wouldn't faint. Geodette then smashed the field with an Earthquake. The severe damage from the falling glass shards knocked out both Jynx and Geodette. Red sent in Yang. After seeing Serra's Glaceon, Red decided to switch to Blaine, who took a Signal Beam intended for Yang. Blaine almost knocked out Glaceon with a Heat Wave, taking a Frost Breath in return. Serra healed Glaceon, and Blaine missed his next Heat Wave. Blaine's next Heat Wave, however, was critical, knocking Glaceon out. Red switched over to Demonslayer as Serra sent in Vanilluxe. Demonslayer took heavy damage from Frost Breath, and did little in return with Gyro Ball. Red healed Blaine with a Strawberry Ice Cream as Demonslayer was knocked out by another Frost Breath. Serra's team's Reflect finally faded. Blaine was sent back in. Vanilluxe used Reflect, causing it to survive Blaine's Close Combat. Vanilluxe fired off Signal Beam before falling to a second Close Combat. Red switched to Somno as Serra sent in Aurorus. It started to hail. Somno tried to used Sleep Powder, but was knocked out by a Frost Breath. Red then sent Blaine back out. Blaine easily knocked Aurorus out with Close Combat. Red switched to Yang as Serra sent out Froslass. Yang used Sucker Punch, but Reflect minimized the damage, and Yang was hit hard with Frost Breath. The Reflect faded, however, and Yang was able to do significantly more damage with her next Sucker Punch. Red sent in Blaine. Serra used an Ultra Potion that Red didn't know she was allowed to use, and Blaine missed with Crunch. Froslass used Confuse Ray on Blaine, but Blaine still managed to hit with a Crunch. Red considered using another healing item, but decided to have faith in Blaine. Froslass hit Blaine with a Frost Breath. Blaine finished the battle with a Crunch. Red collected his badge. Bennet entered the room, telling his mother he was leaving to train with El. A loud creaking could be heard outside. Red went outside and saw the Pokemart was gone. He left the town to look for it. The Team:
  5. Nice work, dealing with such a limited Pokemon pool! Good luck in the rest of the run.
  6. (Apologies for some of the screenshots. Not sure what happened.) Update 10: Something's watching me... Red and Cain faced the entrance to the wasteland. Cain started to reach into his pocket to get the key, but stopped and challenged Red to a battle. After Somno swept his team with Sleep Powder and Quiver Dance, Cain finally opened the door. He ran off, saying he didn't want to deal with his family at the moment, and that he would be waiting for Red in the train tunnel. Red walked through the wasteland. The ground was covered in a purple kind of sludge, and there was trash all over the place. There were also things that seemed completely out of place, like random bookshelves, control panels, and even a train. Red also felt as though he was being watched, even though there was no one in sight. When Red stopped to rest in the ruins of an old building, he met an old man, who told Red that the wastes had once been cleared, but that the waste came back out of nowhere, and that the people of the city abandoned the area. Red finally arrived at a small house, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. There was an official reborn league sign posted on the door, so Red knocked twice and entered. A middle-aged woman was sitting at the table. She seemed surprised, but then remembered that she was sitting in a gym now. She told Red that Aya, her daughter, was in the middle of a match, and that Red could watch while he was waiting for his turn. Red used the healing machine crammed between the counter and the stove, and entered the next room, just in time to see Fern grabbing his badge. Fern noticed Red, and bragged about how easy the battle was, prompting the girl to remind him that he had suffered two losses. Fern put the blame on his grass Pokemons' weakness to poison, and said that once he had made some substitutions, it had been too easy. Just then, a young man with red hair and hiker clothing walked into the room. He introduced himself as Hardy, the rock type gym leader, saying he had come to welcome Aya. Noticing Fern, he said he felt sorry for Aya for having to face Fern right off the bat. It was revealed that Fern and Hardy knew each other because their sisters had gone to school together. Aya went to prepare for her battle with Red. Fern said he would give Red a real fight while he waited. Red sent out Blaine, while Fern sent out Ferrothorn. One Heat Wave later, Red, recalling that Fern had made some switches to his team to make up for its weakness to poison, switched to Somno. True to Red's prediction, Fern switched to Krookodile. Somno put Krookodile to sleep after taking a Crunch, Quiver Danced twice, and swept the remainder of Fern's team. Hardy laughed, saying it was worth coming just to see Fern get flattened, while Fern claimed that he had let Red win. Aya reentered, and told Red to take his place on the battlefield. Hardy volunteered to be the referee. Fern took a seat, saying he wasn't sure who he wanted to lose more. Aya kept muttering things to herself as Hardy went over the rules of the doubles battle that was about to take place. (Attempts required: 2, but only because Somno overleveled and ignored me twice. I need that Exp Share.) Aya led off with Tentacruel and Nidoqueen, while Red sent out Somno and Blaine. Blaine hit Tentacruel with a Crunch, while Tentacruel used Icy Wind. Nidoqueen used Sludge Wave, and Somno put Tentacruel to sleep. Aya used an Ultra Potion on Tentacruel, and had Nidoqueen use another Sludge Wave. Blaine scored a critical Crunch on Tentacruel, while Somno used Quiver Dance. Red healed Somno with a Super Potion, while Aya used another Ultra Potion on Tentacruel. Somno used another Quiver Dance, while Nidoqueen used another Sludge Wave. Somno took minimal damage, but Blaine didn't seem to be doing well. Red had Somno knock out Nidoqueen with Psybeam, and Blaine used another Crunch on Tentacruel. Tentacruel, still being asleep, did nothing. Aya sent out Dragalge. Red used another Super Potion on Somno, and had Somno hit Dragalge with a Psybeam. Tentacruel was still asleep, but Dragalge used Dragon Pulse, knocking out Blaine. Red sent out Yang. Somno blasted Dragalge with another Psybeam, this time knocking it out. Yang smashed Tentacruel with Double Edge, also scoring a knockout. Aya sent out a Gengar and a Drapion. Yang smashed Gengar with a Sucker Punch, nearly knocking it out. Gengar sent a Shadow Ball at Somno, who put Drapion to sleep. Drapion did nothing that turn as a result. Yang knocked out Gengar with another Sucker Punch, while Somno used Quiver Dance. Drapion snored away its turn. Aya sent out a Venasaur. Somno blasted Venasaur with a Psybeam, resulting in an instant knockout. Yang smashed Drapion with a Double Edge, while Drapion continued its nap. Its nap was abruptly ended, however, by a heavily boosted Bug Buzz. The battle was concluded there. Fern left, saying it was boring. Aya seemed upset, saying it was her brother's fault for pushing the position of reserve leader onto her. Hardy went to console her. Red, feeling awkward, showed himself the door. Aya's mother handed him the badge and TM for Sludge Wave on his way out. Red taught Yang how to use Strength, feeling glad that Reborn's HM moves could be forgotten by Pokemon like any TM. Red then met Cain under the tunnel, where Yang cleared away the debris blocking the path. They came to a fork in the road. One way was blocked by a locked door, so Red and Cain used common sense and went the other way. The path led back up to the surface, and into an old, rundown building, which Cain recognized as the old Yureyu Company's headquarters. The duo then made their way through the building. They saw a couple of Team Meteor agents standing by a control panel, with Shelly tied up and blindfolded on the ground. One of the agents was shaking as he held a knife against Shelly's throat. He told them not to take a single step towards the panel. Not seeing any choice, Red and Cain continued through the building. Soon, Red and Cain came across a room where Charlotte was being held "captive" by another pair of agents. Unlike Shelly, however, she was not tied up, and freely chatting with her captors. One of the agents noticed Red and Cain, and started to threaten to kill Charlotte. She told him to stop, and then walked over to Cain and Red, introducing the agents as Simon and Tara. Simon and Tara tried to stop them, but were quickly defeated. Charlotte told them they needed to unlock the upper levels using the panel in the room Shelly was being held hostage in, and led them downstairs. She was met by the threats to Shelly's life. Charlotte response was that she didn't care, and that she just wanted to leave. The grunt with the knife hesitated as she operated the panel, and she quickly dragged Shelly out of the room before he could react. The grunts gave chase, but were stopped and defeated by Red and Cain. Charlotte told Red and Cain to go on ahead as she freed Noel. Cain and Red came across Sigmund interrogating Heather. Sigmund asked Red if they were going to interfere. Although Red found Sigmund repulsive, he knew that Charlotte and the others were coming, and that the leader of the operation needed to be captured as quickly as possible. Sigmund let Red pass. Cain reluctantly followed Red up the next set of stairs. The man from the power plant Red had raided alongside Julia, Florinia, and Fern was there, holding Anna captive. She kept telling him to give back her father's pendant. The man noticed Red and Cain and introduced himself as Sirius. He then commented on how it was remarkable how while chasing after Heather's ruby ring, he was also able to acquire a second item of importance. He stopped himself before he revealed too much. He said he had had enough games, and sent out a Hitmontop and a Chandelure. Red responded by sending out Geodette, while Cain sent out Nidoking. Hitmontop hit Geodette with a Mach Punch, Chandelure used Shadow Ball on Nidoking, Nidoking hit Hitmontop with a Shadow Ball, and Geodette hit Chandelure with a Smack Down. Then Chandelure and Hitmontop finished off Red and Cain's Pokemon. Red sent in Blaine, while Cain sent out Samurott. Sirius used an Ultra Potion on Chandelure, while Hitmontop used Mach Punch on Samurott. Chandelure was then taken down with a combination of Blaine's Crunch and Samurott's Razor Shell. Sirius sent out Manetric. For some unfathomable reason, it used Ice Fang. Blaine fired off a Heat Wave. Hitmontop attempted to use Hi Jump Kick, but it missed, crashed, and fainted. Samurott hit Manetric with a Night Slash. Sirius then sent out a Seviper. Manetric used Fire Fang, leading Red to believe it was not a very intelligent Manetric. Blaine used Heat Wave, finishing Manetric and burning Seviper. Seviper and Samurott traded Night Slashes. Sirius sent out a Probopass and used an Ultra Potion on his Seviper. Blaine fired off a Heat Wave. Samurott used Night Slash on Seviper. Probopass paralyzed Blaine with Thunder Wave. Seviper used Rest, curing its burn and regaining health. Samurott hit Seviper with a Razor Shell. Probopass used Rock Tomb. Blaine was able to take out Probopass in one hit with Close Combat. Sirius sent in Honchcrow. Red, thinking Blaine may need a break, sent in Yang. Yang was immediately hit by a Foul Play from Honchcrow. Samurott did minimal damage to it with Revenge, while Seviper remained asleep. Yang hit Honchcrow hard with a Double Edge, but was knocked out in return by Brave Bird. Seviper slept on as Samurott used another Revenge on Honchcrow. Red sent in his underleveled Staryu, hoping it could gain some battle experience, but it was immediately knocked out by a Brave Bird. Seviper woke up and used Poison Fang on Samurott, while Samurott knocked out Honchcrow with Razor Shell. Red sent in Somno. Seviper finished off Samurott with a Night Slash, and was promptly put back to sleep by Somno. Cain sent out Venomoth. Venomoth used Giga Drain while Somno used Quiver Dance as Seviper slept on. Then Somno used another Quiver Dance, while Venomoth used another Giga Drain. Seviper woke up and hit Venomoth with an Aqua Tail. Both Red and Cain thought that this was an issue, and Seviper was hit with a double dose of Sleep Powder. Somno used Quiver Dance for the third time, while Venomoth used Giga Drain. Finally, Red decided to go on the offense, and Somno concluded the battle. Sirius called Cain and Red insolent and ran off. Cain freed Anna while Red picked up the key to the locked door. Cain, Red, and Anna met up with the others and made their way through the rest of the tunnel.
  7. Personally, I think that since the demon looks like a Rotom, the reward will be a Rotom.
  8. I prefer my Arcanine mixed, as Heat Wave can be a huge help in doubles, and tends to break a lot of fields as well. I run a neutral nature, with Heat Wave, Close Combat, Outrage, Crunch/Extremespeed
  9. After playing Reborn, I look at Rattattas and Caterpies in a completely different way...

  10. Apologies about the delayed post, finals in Uni are coming up... Update 9: Demonslayer strikes again! (But the ending stays the same...) Red waited outside Kiki's room to hear news on her condition. Victoria came out. She said Kiki was now resting, and that she should be left alone. Victoria also promised that Red would get the HM and the Fury Badge he had earned. She suggested that Red go out and look for Cain, saying he sould have gotten to Apophyll by now, and that he had likely landed on a nearby island and gotten lost. Red returned to the shore, started up Amaria's boat, and began searching the surrounding area. Around an hour later, Red landed on Azurine Island. He had decided to start searching islands with buildings on them rather than just searching for signs of Cain himself, and Azurine Island had a Pokemon breeding facility located on it. Believing Cain could have been taking shelter, Red walked right in and bumped into Aster. Eclipse was also in the room. Red and the duo stared at each other for a moment before sending out their Pokemon for a doubles battle. Although outnumbered, Red still managed to defeat the duo. As they fled, Aster taunted Red, saying he'd never find where Cain was hidden. This proved Cain was in the building, and the empty bookcase on the far wall was looking very suspicious to Red. Red healed his Pokemon with a nearby recovery machine, then moved the bookcase aside. Not surprisingly, there was a staircase leading to the basement. At the bottom of the stairs, there were two cells for keeping Pokemon in. One contained a Camerupt. The other held Cain. There were also two Team Meteor Grunts and Taka in the room. Taka greeted Red, told him that Team Meteor was going to connect a PULSE Camerupt to the volcano to destroy Apophyll, and then apologized, saying he had orders to eliminate Red. Taka sent out a Klefki as Red released Blaine. Then Blaine used Heat Wave, and Taka was short a Klefki. Taka sent in Cradilly next. Blaine was able to deal significant damage to it with Close Combat, and took minimal damage from Cradily's Mega Drain. A second Close Combat finished it. Hoping to give Blaine a chance to recover, Red switched to Somno as Taka sent out Gligar. Somno tried to put it to sleep, but was outsped and knocked out by an Acrobatics attack. Red switched over to Geodette. Geodette barely noticed Gligar's Night Slash, and smashed it into the ground with Smack Down. Gligar used Roost to try to recover some of the damage, but Geodette piled dirt on it and slowed it down with Bulldoze. Gligar's attacks and Taka's Ultra Potion couldn't save it as it was soon taken down with an Earthquake. The lights began flickering as well. Red, knowing Taka's ace and final Pokemon, sent out Yang. As predicted, Taka sent in Chatot. Yang hit Chatot with a Sucker Punch, but took a Chatter in return and became confused. Chatot used a second Chatter, bringing Yang to the brink of fainting. However, even in confusion, Yang was able to execute a final Double Edge, knocking out both herself and Chatot in the process. Taka had the grunts grab the Camerupt and run, and commented on how it would be a shame if Red were to come and stop the PULSE once again. Red quickly freed Cain, and the two jumped into the boat and sped off as fast as the boat could handle to Apophyll Island. When they arrived, they explained the situation to Victoria. Victoria said that she had seen Team Meteor pass by the area, and that Kiki wanted to talk to the three of them in her room. Kiki explained that the destruction of Apophyll would upset the balance between the technological realm of the city and the secluded realm of Apophyll. She asked Red and Cain to go up Pyrous Mountain and stop whatever Team Meteor was doing. Victoria said she would stay with Kiki. Cain ran ahead of Red while he was making a final adjustment to his team, a back-up plan to deal with a certain Garchomp. When he was about to start his climb, he was joined by Victoria, who had decided to help stop Team Meteor as well. Red and Victoria were slowed down by Team Meteor guards. Red mostly left them to Victoria, wanting his team to stay at full strength until he faced the real opponent. When Red and Victoria arrived, they saw Cain's Nidoking being finished off by Taka's Chatot. Cal was standing by the edge of the crater, watching. The man with the Garchomp was also there, standing behind Taka. He was introduced as Solaris, Taka's father and the leader of Team Meteor. He told Taka to deal with Victoria, saying he would handle Red. He also boasted that he would do it with a single Pokemon, sending out his Garchomp. Red led with Blaine. Apologizing to his Pokemon, he switched to a Growlithe as Garchomp used Earthquake, and sent out Blaine again. He repeated this tactic several times. However, after his third Growlithe fainted, rather than sending out Blaine, Red sent out his trump card. Solaris laughed. Garchomp used Fire Fang on Demonslayer, which should have been the end of it... if the Growlithes Red had sent out had merely been to stall for time. However, each one had sapped a small amount of Garchomp's will to fight as they were sent out. As a result, the newly evolved Demonslayer was easily able to take Garchomp's attack and hit it with Perish Song. After Blaine and Geodette were able to collectively survive Garchomp's next three attacks, Garchomp fainted. Solaris had an expression on his face that was somewhere between surprise and disgust. He said there was no point in continuing the battle, as he clearly had the upper hand, as Red's tactic would only work once. The Camerupt was going to explode, and nothing could stop it. Suddenly, Kiki appeared. She told Cain and Red to stand aside, ignoring Victoria's protests about her health. She sent out her Medicham, ordering it to destroy the PULSE. It prepared a High-Jump Kick, but was caught by a Magmortar. Cal's Magmortar. Victoria screamed at Cal, demanding to know what he was doing. Cal ignored her. Solaris ordered Magmortar to dispose of the Medicham. Cal tried to protest, but his Magmortar threw Medicham into the lava anyways. Solaris used a Revive on his Garchomp while the commotion was going on. Red could only watch as, as predicted by Shade, the Garchomp dealt a fatal blow to Kiki. Cal yelled at Solaris, saying that this wasn't part of the plan. Solaris responded by saying that he should have been prepared for her death, as she would have died anyways from the PULSE attack. Cal was silent for a moment, then ordered his Magmortar to destroy the PULSE. Solaris said that his action had not redeemed him, but instead condemned him. Solaris and Taka then retreated. Cal tried to tell the others that this wasn't what he meant to happen. Victoria asked what it was he was trying to do. Without waiting for an answer, she told Cal to leave and not return. The morning after Kiki's death, Victoria called Red and Cain into Kiki's old room. She said that she would take over the academy. She gave Red the HM, but said that Kiki's badge was invalidated with her death. She wished the two good luck as they boarded Amaria's boat, saying she couldn't travel with them anymore. Special Honors: Baby Growlithes > The Honor Guard
  11. Trainer Red defeated Garchomp with an Arcanine, 3 Growlithes, and a Wigglytuff.
  12. IMO Emolga is outclassed at this stage in the game by other Electric types like Jolteon, Ampharos, Magnezone, etc, due to its mediocre stats in everything that isn't speed. Also, to replace Scrafty, I suggest an ice type like Lapras.
  13. Aww... not Lord Helix as a starter? Jokes aside, good luck, looks like this one will be interesting.
  14. I took the screenshot while I was still videotaping from my battle with Kiki. And I have a plan to deal with Garchomp without using my Focus Sash... PS: And if someone could comment by tomorrow evening so that I won't be double posting, that would be great...
  15. Update 8: Death flags everywhere... Red rushed back to the train tunnel on his cycle. He found Victoria, staring at a massive wall of rubble that had not been there during Red's last visit. She explained that Cain had collapsed the tunnel in order to escape, and that now, getting through to the other side was currently impossible. She then said that a Pokemon could move the rubble with the HM for strength, and that Kiki, her teacher, had some that she gave to her graduating students. She then said that Cain, feeling guilty for sealing off the orphans, had run down to Coral Ward to try to get to Apophyll Island, where Kiki taught. Red cycled away to Coral Ward just in time to see Cain hop on his Muk and Surf away. Red wanted to follow, but he had no Pokemon that knew Surf, he didn't have the badge authorizing him to use Surf, and the toxic lake would have seriously harmed his Pokemon. Red started walking around the harbor, trying to figure out his next move, when a nearby warehouse opened and Amaria walked out. She noticed him, and explained that she had just tracked down the source of the pollution. She invited Red to come along as backup. He followed her to Blackstream Factory. The door was locked, but she had her Lapras, Deliverance, create a staircase with Ice Beam to the roof of the building. The two entered through a vent, surprising two Team Meteor guards. They sent out a Lairon and a Golbat, while Red sent out Demonslayer. Then Amaria sent out Deliverance, and the battle was concluded shortly afterwards. Red and Amaria continued to make their way through the factory, but were surrounded by grunts in an ambush. Amaria created an opening for Red to escape, but he was chased into a room. The floor opened beneath him, and he fell into a room full of cages with Pokemon in them. He was able to escape, and made his way through the factory. He finally slammed open the door to the last room, and saw Zel and the man from under the stairway surveying a PULSE machine connected to a Muk, pouring waste into the water. Zel seemed to panic when he noticed Red, while the other man seemed mildly amused. He congratulated Red for making it this far, and invited Red to take a closer look at the machine. Red heard the door behind him lock. Not seeing any other choice, Red walked up. He heard something behind him, and the cry of a Pokemon. He turned and saw a Garchomp, frozen solid, its claws mere centimeters from his head. Seeing the Garchomp made Red remember the screen in Shade's gym. Perhaps it had not been a psychological tactic, but a genuine warning instead? Amaria rushed into the room with Atlantica, her Kingdra, and placed herself between Red and the man. She told Red to destroy the machine while she held back the man. The man seemed to want to ignore her, but then noticed something on her wrist and decided to do battle anyways. Zel stepped in the way, sending out Glaceon. Red responded by sending out Blaine. Blaine knocked out Glaceon with a single Heat Wave. Red swapped in Yang as Zel sent out Espeon. Espeon hit Yang hard with a Psychic, but fell to Yang's Crunch. Red then sent out Blaine once more, knowing Zel's final Pokemon. Umbreon did minimal damage with Quick Attack, and was nearly knocked out in return by Arcanine's Close Combat. Desperate, Zel used an Ultra Potion. It became pointless, however, when Blaine's next attack was critical. Zel ran off, while Red turned to face the PULSE. It seemed to be in pain. Red knew the most humane thing to do now would be to put it out of its misery. He sent out Magnemite, hoping to take a hit with Sturdy and paralyze it with Thunder Wave. Muk turned dark brown, and fired off a Mud Bomb, almost knocking Magnemite out. However, Magnemite's Thunder Wave had no effect. Red realized that it must have Protean as an ability, and adjusted his strategy accordingly. He sent out Somno, putting it to sleep. Somno also got a few Silver Winds out, but was not boosted by any of them, and fainted when Muk woke up, turned yellow, crackled with electricity, and fired off a discharge. Red sent out Geodette. Muk, sensing that it could be free of its pain, turned back to its original purple, fired off a Sludge Wave, and was destroyed by an Earthquake. The man noticed the PULSE was destroyed. He sent a message throughout the factory, saying that it was time to retreat. However, as Amaria lowered her guard, the man's Tyranitar hit her hard with a Superpower, and she went flying. The man then left to join his subordinates. Red went to check on Amaria. She was obviously in a lot of pain, but she was able to walk. She said she was going back to her cottage in Ametrine, where she and her lover, Tania, lived. She said that Red could borrow her boat to get across the lake, and tossed him the key to her warehouse before slowly limping away. Red arrived on Apophyll and met up with Victoria. The two of them went to meet Kiki and ask for the machine. Red froze when he saw Kiki. It was the exact same woman as the one on the screen. Red knew he had to keep her from encountering the Garchomp, which most likely belonged to the man from before. Kiki heard their circumstances, but said it would be disrespectful to the alumni of the school to give Red, an outsider, the machine for Strength. Victoria then announced she would like to apply for graduation. Kiki, however, knew that Victoria would be unable to use the machine, and would therefore pass it off to Red. Kiki said that they would both need to pass a test for Red to receive the machine. She then sent Red to the top of Pyrous Mountain to battle her student, Cal. Victoria seemed to blush when Cal was mentioned. Red reached the top, and found Cal meditating. Cal noticed Red's presence. After learning Red was there to face Cal as a test from Kiki, Cal accepted, saying he hadn't had a real battle since he resigned as gym leader, and that while he was a leader, he was only trying to be better than his brother. He also said that he had trouble dealing with his anger before, hurting Shelly in the process. He then said that he would give Red the battle he came for, and find a new center in the process. Cal led with Infernape, while Red sent out Geodette. Infernape used Swords Dance, but was knocked out immediately by Geodette's Earthquake. Red then switched to Blaine as Cal sent out Typhlosion.Blaine used Close Combat, took minimal damage from a Hidden Power, used Close Combat again as Cal used an Ultra Potion, and finished off Typhlosion with a third Close Combat. Red then switched back to Geodette as Cal sent out Charizard. Geodette survived a Dragon Claw, then knocked out Charizard with a Smack Down. Geodette stayed in as Cal sent in Magmortar. Magmortar tried to charge up a Solar Beam, but fell to a single Earthquake. Geodette also took down Cal's Blaziken with an Earthquake after taking a Double Kick. Red then switched over to Yang as Cal sent out Delphox. A critical Crunch from Yang ended the battle. Cal told Red to go on ahead, saying there was something he needed to finish. Red returned to the school. Kiki said Victoria had also passed her test, and that she would give the machine to Red if he could beat her in a gym batle. Red accepted. On his way to the arena, Victoria stopped him, saying that Kiki had not given her a test at all, and that she had just told her how to run the school. Victoria was worried that Kiki was dying, and didn't want Red to fight her, challenging and losing to Red in a battle. Red wanted to make this as quick as possible for Kiki's sake, so he tried to formulate a strategy. (Soft-resets required: 7. I really didn't want to grind Staryu and Drowzee to level 40.) Red sent out Somno against Kiki's Machamp. Somno used Sleep Powder, putting Machamp to sleep. Somno then Quiver Danced twice, and blasted Machamp with a Psybeam. Kiki sent out a Gallade. Somno used Sleep Powder, then Quiver Dance, then Bug Buzz, very nearly knocking it out of the battle. Kiki used an Ultra Potion as Somno used Quiver Dance again. Somno's next Bug Buzz knocked out Gallade, and Kiki sent out Toxicroak. Somno used Sleep Powder again, then Quiver Dance, then Psybeam. The result was obvious. Kiki's Hitmonlee was not put to sleep. It was simply knocked out with a Psybeam. (Somno hit level 46 here... I was fortunate enough to not have him ignore me for either of the last two attacks.) The same thing happened to her Lucario. Kiki's ace, Medicham, stood no chance against Somno's Bug Buzz, giving Red the victory. Kiki moved to give Red the badge, but collapsed in the middle of the battlefield. Post Battle Pic:

  18. (A thing I forgot to mention in my last post: Beat Savage Beartic, got a Smoochum) Update 7: Out of the frying pan... Cain tried the door to the orphanage. It was locked. While the trio were trying to figure out their next move, someone from the inside unlocked and opened the door. It was Anna, one of the orphans, saying she opened the door because of Red's "glowiness". Charlotte and Noel were also by the entrance. Cain and Shelly explained that they were there to save Heather. Cain also offered to take the other orphans along as well, and retrieve their confiscated Pokemon. Charlotte agreed, and went to distract some orderlies. However, the trio was soon spotted anyways by three orderlies. Cain, Red, and Shelly each faced one orderly. Geodette was easily able to defeat the orderly's Klink, and leveled up to 34, learning Earthquake. Red then switched to Yang, who demolished the orderly's Slowpoke and Elgyem. After the battle, Geodette evolved into a Graveller. Red looked and saw Cain and Shelly had defeated their opponents as well. The orderlies ran off to warn the others. Noel told Cain to block the door to the basement, as many orderlies would try to attack from that direction, but would be forced to fight one at a time in that position. Two orderlies came from upstairs and dragged Noel away. Red and Shelly ran after them. Many orderlies tried to halt their advance, but Geodette and Heather, Shelly's Yanmega, were able to take them down. However, a steel gate was soon placed in their path instead. The duo returned to the main floor, fought their way into a laboratory, hacked into a computer, and disabled the door lock. Red also grabbed a computer chip off of a desk, hoping to use it as evidence of the orphanage's misconduct. They returned to the upper level, freed Noel and some other orphans from their jail-type cells, and were met with another locked door. They returned to the main level. Cain had pushed back the orderlies, giving them access to the basement. Red freed Charlotte, and then he and Shelly defeated the last of the guards blocking the way to the storage room. Charlotte collected the 4 sets of Pokeballs and the key to the door to Sigmund's treatment area. The group then rushed into the room and surrounded Sigmund, who was supervising his Electrivire while it electrocuted Heather. Heavily outnumbered, Sigmund released Heather, but warned the group that he had already contacted the police about the breakout. They scattered, agreeing to meet in the abandoned railway tunnel. When they all arrived, Charlotte explained that she and her sisters had a small, hidden house outside of the city that they could hide out in, and that the tracks should lead directly to it. However, their progress was halted by a metal door, connected to an inactive control panel. Shelly said that it was probably controlled by the old power plant station. Anna remembered that it was Shade, or "Mr. Shadow", who was living there now, and told Red he should go ask him to turn the power on, and get a badge while he was at it. To prepare for the coming battle, Red trained his newly-hatched Growlithe by taking it to the cave under the Grand Staircase and teaching it how to read with the Unown floating around. After he was satisfied with the training, he gave the Growlithe his fire stone he had mined up earlier, causing it to evolve into a mighty Arcanine. He also gave Geodette the stange cable stone after learning it was a new stone developed by Silph Co to evolve Pokemon that would normally only evolve after being traded away. Geodette was now a Golem. Red returned to the Beryl Ward and walked through the doors to the old power plant. The lights occasionally flickered on, but were off most of the time. In the darkness, there were four screens. One showed Carey jumping off of the bridge. One showed Amaria falling off of something, and an unknown redheaded woman behind her. Another depicted a woman being decapitated by a Garchomp. The last showed a woman with green hair exploding. Each one made Red feel uneasy. Red finally reached the end of the hall. Shade's black, levitating form could just be made out in the darkness. The two locked eyes, and wordlessly, the battle began. Red sent out Yang. A Gengar came out of a nearby wall and floated on the other side of the battlefield. Yang seemed to recognize it from somewhere. Red heard Shade issuing commands to it, using the nickname "Corey". Red wondered if Shade was using that name just to distract him, but it was hard not to compare the shape of the Gengar to Corey's head. Red noticed Corey charging up electricity, and quickly ordered Yang to attack. Yang struck hard with Sucker Punch, taking moderate damage in return from Corey's Thunderbolt. Shade used both of his Ultra Potions, with Corey taking a Crunch from Yang after each one. Corey had no choice but to attack, and was finished with a second Sucker Punch. Red switched out Yang for Geodette, and a Doublade emerged from the wall. Geodette hit Doublade hard with an Earthquake, taking little damage from Shadow Claw. A second Earthquake finished it. Red again switched, this time to Arcanine, as a Trevenant emerged. It fell to a single Heat Wave. A Banette appeared next. It snuck up on Arcanine with Shadow Sneak. Arcanine responded with Crunch, dealing almost enough damage to knock out the Banette. However, Banette's Cursed Body sealed Arcanine's Crunch. Banette slipped back into the wall, and a Rotom emerged, just in time to be blasted by the Heat Wave Arcanine had aimed at Banette. A second Heat Wave finished it. The Banette returned, and was greeted by yet another Heat Wave, knocking it out. Banette's disabling wore off as Shade's final Pokemon, Chandelure, descended onto the battlefield. Arcanine used Crunch. Dazed from the attack, Chandelure used Energy Ball. Chandelure ate its Sitrus Berry as Arcanine rushed to attack again. It just barely survived Arcanine's second Crunch, and knocked out Arcanine with a Shadow Ball, drawing in the darkness. However, it stood no chance as Yang crashed into it with a Sucker Punch. Shade gave Red the Omen badge, as well as the TM for Shadow Claw. At Red's request, he turned on the power. Then he turned on a surveillance screen, showing the tracks where Cain, Shelly, and the orphans were waiting. The door opened, and Team Meteor agents ran through and grabbed Shelly and the orphans. They went after Cain as well, but Cain had his Nidoking collapse the tunnel between them and ran off. Shade told Red not to let the sacrifices be in vain, and faded from view. Post Battle Team: Nickname awarded: Arcanine > Blaine
  19. All bosses were trivialized by sturdyseed except for Chadelure, due to Nancy's battle before that. Had to use Meowstic Prankster Flashhax + Ninjask Speedpass + Mismagius Subplot to win. 3 attempts were required.
  20. (Note: My mystery egg has been changed from Azumaril to Staryu) Update 6: Chance meeting in the cemetery On the recommendation of Shelly, Red returned to the Grand Hall to let Ame know about Corey's incident. When he arrived, he saw that Fern had beaten him to it. Fern smirked and told Red that he would have a hard time getting the poison badge now, since the new poison leader was stationed in the wasteland, and only those who had the key could get in. He then revealed that he had a key, and that he would tell Red where he found it if he could beat him, saying it was impossible. After Somno, Yang, and the Arsonist plowed through Fern's team, Fern gave a description of the guy who gave him the key, and left. Red knew the description could only match Cain. Red wandered off, knowing he would probably encounter Cain eventually. He left the Arsonist at the daycare, along with an overleveled male Mankey that he had forgotten he left in the first place, thinking he didn't want to deal with an enraged fighting-type at the moment. While exploring the cave under the staircase, Red freed a hiker with Stun Gun's newly acquired Rock Smash. As a thank you, the hiker gave Red a free mining kit. After testing out the kit on the walls, Red found a fire stone, two moon stones, two max revives, some plates, and some weird shards, among other various items. He also found a Dome Fossil. which brought back memories from eight years ago, when he had first traversed Kanto holding a Helix fossil to his ear half the time. He suppressed the urge to withdraw and overlevel his Pidgeotto in the PC. He instead went to fetch the Arsonist, and found the daycare couple also had some eggs for him. He left the Mankey. Seeing the Arsonist seemed to be tired of battling after facing Shelly, he transferred her to Oak's lab via the PC and started carrying one of the eggs instead. It later hatched into a baby Growlithe. Red made his way over to the Beryl Ward, where repairs were slowly being made. He wandered into Corey's old gym and into his secret room. He noticed a silver ring on the ground. Without thinking, he slipped it on. There was nothing else in the room except for a locked door with a card scanner. Red began exploring some of the nearby caves. There was a strange stone on the ground with a cable pattern on it, and Red put it in his bag to investigate later. He also found a grey Nidorina, which he recognized to be Corey's from their battle. The Nidorina recognized the ring Red was wearing, approached, and bowed its head. Sensing its thoughts Red drew out an empty Pokeball and caught it. Red emerged from the cave at an old graveyard. He noticed Cain and walked over. Cain was staring at a newly dug grave. It was marked with Corey's name. Cain noticed Red. He explained that he was worried about Corey's daughter Heather, since he knew what it was like to be on his own. When Red asked for the key to the Wasteland Cain told him he could have it if he could beat Cain in a battle. Red led with Somno, while Cain sent in Dewott. Somno put Dewott to sleep, then hit it with Silver Wind. With the leftover power drawn in from its attack, Somno's battle capabilities rose. Cain tried to use a Super Potion to save Dewott, but Somno's next attack knocked it out. Somno proceeded to singlehandedly sweep Cain's entire team, only running into slight trouble when Cain sent out Nidoking. Cain was about to give Red the key, but he noticed something behind Red. Red turned and saw Heather. Cain tried to get Heather to stop running from everyone and make some friends. When she yelled she already had one, Shelly, Cain suggested she go see her. Heather flew off on her Salamence. Cain and Red hurried over to the Lapis Gym, where Heather and Shelly were. Heather became angry, and told Shelly to tell them to leave. Cain suggested that Heather stop bossing her friend around. Heather stormed out in response. The three followed behind. They saw that Heather had been captured by orderlies at Doctor Sigmund's orphanage. They moved to help her, but Sigmund stopped them, telling them that interfering with his orderlies could be grounds for arrest. They could only watch as the orderlies dragged her into the orphanage by force. At Shelly's gym, the trio was trying to decide what to do next. Red was telling Shelly and Cain what the orphans had told him about the doctor's treatment when they heard a scream. Shelly identified it as Heather's. The three decided there was only one option, and ran towards the orphanage.
  21. Something of interest: Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but this tree does not block, and I am able to walk right up to the black void.
