  1. With Fly being introduced in the next update, I'm pretty upset about disrupting my perfect team right now because my team's designated flying type can't ferry me around. Has anything been said about whether the team wants to stick with official mechanics where they're concerned? Because if I wanted one thing, it'd be for my Yanmega to actually be able to carry me around like all the dex entries say. So which non-Flying flying types would you add Fly to? I get that a lot of Flying types that can't Fly are small bugs, so those have some logic even if a small bat and bird can also carry you around. My first thoughts are Gyarados and Yanmega, Gyarados since it probably does fly to navigate around cities it 'destroys in a rage', and Yanmega because dex entries. Jumpluff and Gliscor are tempting choices, but since Jumpluff is incredibly light and both rely on gliding rather than flying proper, they might not really fit. Thoughts?
  2. Can I just praise you for not dumping whatever seems cool into your work without thinking of how stupid it would look? Because lots of people fall into this trap, I'm glad you don't seem to be doing that.
  3. If I can give some criticism, are huge text dumps before you even get your starter necessary? I'm not really interested in the...uh, funny banter between my family or not team rocket grunts. Huge texts dumps take away control from the player and are bad the same way long cut scenes are bad, you're breaking immersion very badly. I dropped version one because of all the typos and overuses of ellipses, I thought a version 2 would change that. Eevee event breaks if you say no, since you can't interact with the potion in the room anymore.
  4. I wonder just how far deeper Jan wants to take this down the darkness hole. At this point, I'm thinking about what it would be like if our protagonists suddenly got horribly injured, like losing an arm or something. As of now all the protagonists look too happy for the tone set in the game. Imagine if some horrible incident occurs and the player loses, say, an arm and has it replaced by a prosthetic, among other scars showing how far they've come. It would also be an excuse to update the player's sprite to reflect that they have a snag machine, since in the games with snagging and shadow pokemon the snag machine were prominent parts of the player's appearance. It could be attached to the new mechanical limb. As for where that comes from? Saki seems able to make whatever she puts her mind to. Have some inspiration. This started coming to mind more and more once things ran off the deep end at the end of Blacksteeple castle.
  5. Just got to the end of the current content. The tone so far strikes a pretty good balance. What helps a lot right now is that unlike the other Reborn-likes popping up, you're exploring a tropical island instead of being shoved into yet another laggy dry city. So you have a pretty good adventure vibe that I liked the most, like I said before. While it's too early to say if I like the characters so far, I'm interested in them, so that's already pretty good. I don't want to punch anyone's face in yet (looking at you, Venam/Nim/Saki/Amber) which is a plus. The locations and settings bring everything together nicely, the ghosts just wandering around the hill worked out well. You managed to turn Shiv from an annoying magical plot man to someone pretty interesting within one episode, so well done on that. You just have to make him not use a Reborn PC's sprite and he's set. Also interesting to see the boss of the evil team be someone pretty young and actually trying to recruit the player, assuming Nova actually is the evil team's boss. Also, her trainer title is Meteor Boss, I'm not sure if you've fixed that already. Like I said before, this has a lot of promise. I wouldn't advise trying to make it darker than it is right now, because you can only tell a dark story with Pokemon graphics for so long before it gets really stupid. I'm not so sure about the credits system right now, because it seems more like a lot of padding content than anything. You might run out of interesting quests soon. Also, there really should be more water Pokemon available, considering the general climate and geography. Is that fisherman supposed to give up his rod? And again, I'm not a fan of jamming memes into a game, but I can ignore it if it's just side content. This is pretty good so far, I mean it. You can ask me for any more opinions if you like.
  6. Thanks a lot, though I don't think I'll continue anytime soon. I didn't intend to spend a lot of time detailing how throwaway members of the team would be caught. I tried sticking to situations that would contribute the most to showing his personality. By glide, I mean like how snakes do on the ground, pretty sure Snivy can do it.
  7. Kyogre event in Valor mountain has messed up triggers. When you go down the stairs to it the event proceeds on as normal. After beating it, a separate event triggers where an invisible amber talks about the Kyogre as if it hasn't appeared yet. Kyogre doesn't reappear after that. Also, I can't remember clearly, but returning to Sheridan after Groudon event triggers some text from earlier in the game. Edit: Is Melia intended to have only three pokemon in her tag fight against Zetta and Gearen for some reason? I had to carry her useless ass through that fight once everything she had died in about four-five turns.
  8. Oh, hey. It's me, I was the one reporting the bugs some time ago. You got around fixing them?
  9. Let's see Pre-gym leader Magically attracts shinies No, she CREATES shinies, even Makes a high valuable and almost certainly illegal piece of technology, the snag machine, out of 'a few spare parts lying around' Mysterious past Has a super special secret technique Gee, who'da thunk the super special original character would be a favourite of the creator
  10. Also, Ren seems to have brain damage. The only thing he ever says when he's down to one pokemon in all his fights is that "Beginner's luck quickly runs out". I don't think you intended that.
  11. Thanks. Do you need badges to use Rock climb or can I use it whenever?
  12. Might seem silly to ask, but when do you get rock climb?
  13. Not sure is this is a general essentials problem or not, but Malamar and I think Inkay too are immune to water attacks for some reason.
  14. 1) Whether or not you beg Fern Told him to fuck right off 2) Finding all of the police officers before facing the final Tangrowth I don't think I did, what happens if you do? 3) Joining the Aqua or the Magma gang Blue > Red 4) Beating Garchomp in the boss fight with Solaris Refused to lose a single fight in the game, so I cooked up a mastermite to kill it. 5) Saving Heather or going on to fight Sirius I don't recall there being a choice here? I figured securing Heather was more important than temporarily stopping some guy. 6) Going upstairs or staying downstairs when Team Meteor invades Stayed downstairs. I was quite angry how it was trivialised by them just leaving by the window. 7) Siding with El or Radomus Even IF Radomus has been doing nasty things with his Gardevoir that she doesn't like, doesn't change the fact that El is by far a more dangerous person. Cain's my favourite character but he really had a retard moment here by even doubting Rad for El for a moment. 8) How you answer Charlotte's question of how important the Ruby Ring is Played along with her. Aya's nice, but I'm not about to give up valuable little girl jewelry so easily. 9) Whether or not you give Blake the ring I recall refusing over and over since I really didn't care much about Heather at this point. She ran off to some sugar daddy just because he promised her 'no rulez', she deserves whatever comes to her. Then Shelly had to be stupid and forced me to give up the damn plot ticket. 10) Giving Titania candy in the Water Treatment Center I just stuck her with a peppermint. 11) Whether or not you decide to fight Taka to save him from his father's wrath He's already done so much for me, I felt like I owed him a favour, even though I thought it would be better if I forced him to leave Meteor by making him accountable. 12) Whether or not you say your are a new student when you speak with Kiki. Nope. Moment I heard her giving that damn rocks/sand analogy and trying to pass off as a super wise sensei with that I imagined her as a talentless hack. 13) Whether or not you claim to have seen Titania chatting with a grunt in the woods. I don't recall this one. 14) Whether or not you admit to reading the diary. Yeah, I just told the truth. 15) Whether or not you tell Amaria what was in the diary. I don't really see a reason to her,e unless you really hate one of them. 16) Whether or not you tell Luna you're afraid of the dark. Of course not, dark types are one of my faovurites. Then again, the 'dark' type is not related to darkness as in lack of light.
  15. Hey let me go ahead and give you nothing but cryptic fucking hints when the lives of your friends are in danger instead of, you know, just telling you outright and using my skills to fight with you instead of dicking around my glorified basement all day - Shade
  16. Melia's the only one of those I don't want to punch in the face tbh
  17. I'm fairly sure illusion simply allows it to look like a Pokemon, not take its abilities like flying. Then again I'm pretty sure Melia is abusing the hell out of a gameshark.
  18. Wait wait hold the fuck up How does a Zoroark 'transform' into a Togekiss? They don't transform. Is Melia mentally retarded after all?
  19. Oh. The magma stone only works on one house. That was actually the first thing I tried, but since no other house reacts to the magma stone I assumed it wouldn't for all the frozen houses, since they look exactly the same.
  20. Where the hell am I supposed to go after grabbing the Magma Stone? I told Cera to fuck off and kept half the stone, watched the grunt get fired and discussed it with the granny. Now after everything I went through the playboy mansion doesn't recognise that I have a magma stone in my bag.
  21. You get too choose another starter after you're done with the jungle, so it doesn't matter very much. I like it this way, having both.
  22. Alright, so I've gotten to the end of current content. I like a lot of the tone you've set so far. More about adventuring and exploring instead of the current trend of... Reborn-likes throwing you into a shitty city and not letting you leave for a long time. A gameplay suggestion, the scientist in Redcliff asked me for a Bibarel right after I dumped mine for the Budew. Either make it more prominent that he's looking for a Bibarel earlier, maybe have a NPC in town mention it, or just make him ask for a different Pokemon. Very tedious grinding another Bidoof just because. While I was mucking about in the tribe village with Connor, I let him carry me while I used his healing and Fletchinder to grind up weak Pokemon like I usually do during tagteam segments. He destroyed absolutely everything until it came to a double battle against a Carvanha and Bidoof. Bidoof's rollout actually made me have to contribute to the fight because it completely destroyed his entire team, and I later noticed that Bibarel has the perfect kit to demolish him in his gym battle. Defense curl+Rollout destroys Brave Bird Jr and Larvesta and severely crippled the rest while water typing gives fire resistance. Was this intentional? If so, this is absolutely genius and a great example of showing, not telling. If not, I hope you'll show more examples of this in the future. Some other things I have to note, one tribe member mentions wondering where the 'ordinary animals' are, or something to that effect. Normal animals don't exist in Pokemon, at least not anymore. It's also very strange that Connor is concerned about the Village, at least at first. We only find out he's not really the massive cock we're expecting from a Fern recolour later, so until then why he bothers trying to help the village seems like a huge departure from what has been established of his character. Does he feel that it's his responsibility as a gym leader? Is he a lot more caring than he lets on? It should be at least addressed a little when you talk to him in tag team segments, he can just brush it off when it's implied the player is asking him why he's bothering to help. Having your self insert as a character and a plot-important one at that could go either way. Actually, it's probably going to go horribly, you have to toe a very fine line so you don't become obnoxious. Remember, immersion, suspension of disbelief. I don't want to be reminded that this is just some fanfic kid's game when you've given me a setting to be absorbed in.
  23. Glad you appreciated it, You should check out MrBTongue's videos on youtube, he has a lot of good things to say about storytelling and worldbuilding in video games. In fact I highly recommend everyone trying to make a game here watch them. These two are particularly important since they concern suspension of disbelief and creating a consistent world.
  24. Thought I'd give some feedback, since you're looking for it.. I like the premise, I've always wanted a region full of islands. A starter quiz is also usually fun. For anyone interested: So far I'm only around the jungle, but one thing that really stood out was how padded out your writing is. To give you an example Connor: This tree is blocking our path, let's go check it out shall we? Read it out loud. It doesn't flow well, would someone who natively speak English say that? It would look better if maybe you did Connor: This tree is blocking our path. Connor: Let's go check it out, shall we? The comma and line break is pretty important for pacing out sentences, and I noticed a lot of them were commas would have made the dialogue look a lot better. Hell, you could even shorten it, Connor doesn't seem the type to be exceptionally wordy. Maybe he just burns it down and then mentions you should check behind it after that. Also, you should really, show, not tell. This is a mistake I notice a lot. You don't have to say 'The next morning..." or "later...", let the change in weather and lighting tell the player that time has passed. It helps immersion if you let these things show themselves. Oh, and. Never, EVER use *action*. It's FUCKING awful. No Pokemon game, hell, no game has done that and for good reason. It breaks immersion. You might want to consider changing the intro sequence. I personally didn't find it very entertaining and it doesn't do a good job of setting the tone for what I've seen so far. I was very drawn in to the whole explore a mysterious archipelago angle of the story, and that didn't contribute anything to it. Maybe if you were doing some lol xd so randum comedy story, but I don't recommend that at all. Oh, and, while memes are easy to write in as filler dialogue, please, PLEASE try to refrain from them. Why would a tribe that, from what I've seen so far, wears loincloths and is primitive enough that they worship their chief as a god, have one guy who knows what shorts are, enough to 'miss' them? Do they have internet access? Is that why one guy is happily reciting Shrek? It might be funny, but it comes at the expense of the world you're trying to make. Again, it breaks immersion. Well, those are my two cents. Hope it helps.
