Samson too strong for my poor pokemon
Monochrome_Complex replied to Baczoni's topic in Team Showcase
^Well no duh it was easy, revives are the most broken thing in the single player game, especially combined with destiny bond. But you're really cheating yourself out of the Reborn experience if you just rely on abusing revives every big fight, not to mention making your team worse in the long run. Plus he can't get misdreavus anymore. -
Ah that's it then, I forgot high striker. I swear that field has to be the most obnoxious one in the game.

Samson too strong for my poor pokemon

Why do you have Fearow? I would replace him with Hawlucha or braviary, though Fearow is still good for this fight. Note that Samson opens up with one of his strongest pokemon which most gym leaders don't. Hariyama will destroy any fairy type with heavy slam so I would only send her out against him if she can one-shot him surely. Also mienshao and Lucario will probably outspeed Gardevoir, with Mienshao having poison jab which will hurt Gardevoir a lot. I would save Gardevoir for his Ace and Blaziken, both of whom should fall easily to her assuming she's up to level. Lucario usually starts off with swords dance but won't go down in one hit because it has a focus sash. That's a good thing actually, because if the sash activates Samson almost always heals him. Next attack will KO him anyway. But don't risk sending out a pokemon in red against him because it has extremespeed. Thing is half your team can't last more than one attack from Samson, and having something to withstand his attacks is important. I would probably replace Sceptile and Scrafty with Hawlucha and something else that can take Samson's moves while dishing out damage. Donphan's earthquake is good against Blaziken and Lucario, but he's slow. Thing is, he has sturdy, so he'll land big hurts regardless. Don't use him against Hawlucha though. -

That's a really nice looking shiny too. I don't mind the higher shiny rate since really they're too rare in the actual games and Reborn's shinies mostly look better than the regular ones. Some not so much but most of the are nice. -
wtf? Steelix should not be getting one shotted by Megataria's earthquake unless it's severely underleveled and has a def- nature with like single digit IVs or something. It's not getting a STAB off it and Steelix can survive most STAB'd earthquakes with his high defense. I think the best way to beat Ciel is to have a pokemon that can reliably set up attack/special attack and speed buffs then go for the sweep.

Good luck. I think steel is a bit hard because you have very limited options although Klink isn't so bad.

Kadabra always looked more intricate and evolved than Alakazam if you ask me, who while still looks okay, seems like a bit of a downgrade as it loses the tail and seems stripped down of detail. Machoke's muslces seem beefier than Machamp and its coloring and mouth are better IMO. Seadra just looks flat out cooler than Kingdra and like Kadabra looks more intricate. Kingdra's fins seem to "devolve" which hurts its design if you ask me Quilava easily triumphs Typ[hlosion in design and looks more befitting for its stats. Plus I don't get how you go from a flaming tail and mohawk to just a collar. Really Typhlosion's design is a step down in nearly every way. Braixen looks really adorable and is probably my favorite starter middle form, but Delphox doesn't quite look as well put together and looks more awkward, though it's not a bad design. Floette is much more charming than Florges whose head flowers are rather ugly. Agreed on Dragonair like most people. Dragonite isn't a bad design on its own, just a bad evolution from Dragonair. Poliwhirl is my favorite out of the Poli line too. Poliwrath is just a roid raging Poliwhirl and Politoed while cute isn't as creative as Poliwhirl is. I think Gothorita is cuter than Gothetille, but gothitelle is fine. Also agreed on Grovyle like most people. However I actually like Rhyperior over Rhydon now. Rhyperior looks more befitting to the pokemon's stats and Rhydon's design is a bit shallow, which is excusable somewhat since it was the first designed pokemon. Plus it has the dino-thing going on which was way too common in gen 1.

Krabby looks really good. Gyrados a bit off model but the pose is tight. How did you do them? -
What is/are your favourite inanimate object based pokemon?
Monochrome_Complex replied to TimTim's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
I like them all although Gigalith and Porygon seem to end up as actual creatures. Giggalith is like Golem where it starts off just based off a rock but then turns into a rock based creature. Gigalith has a notable head, limbs, body segment, so I would disqualify him, and Porygon is a digital origami crane. Gen 5's are probably my favorites though. They're all very charming and feel creative...well not so much Klinklang design wise since he's just MORE GEARS but he sounds and looks badass. Cryogonal is one of my favorite ice types, it takes a rather mundane concept yet still manages to look unique and exotic. I like exotic looking pokemon. -

^^Azumarill was a massive disappointment in its debut. All this hype for pikablue and it was underwhelming to say the least. He got better and better each gen, and now he actually lives up to the hype his line originally had. Plus I think its whimsical aesthetic makes it fitting as a fairy type so it doesn't feel tacked on though although YMMV. Really, if anything Chansey and Audino feel weird for not being fairy-typed initially(although mega-audino changed that and only one weakness works better for Chansey's line anyway). Mawile's steel typing is the bizarre typing I never understood as it always seemed more like a dark type or a dark/steel type. At least becoming fairy plays off its origins somewhat and fits its deceitful nature. I felt fairy was handled better than steel and dark were in gen 2 where your selection of pokemon and moves felt kind of limited. -

Noibat is trash, you can catch one later that's closer to evolution if you want noivern that much. Butterfree is about to drop off pretty quickly soon so I'd suggest replacing it with Yanma/mega once you hit Azurine island. Golbat/Crobat is also really good as a flying replacer. -
Personally I think embracing the flame works more consistently especially with flash fire. Typholosion alone does a number on Charlotte.

Whoa whoa whoa LOL whoa. This sounds similar to a guy I played against too. It was on randoms though, and through some rather amusing stroke of luck KO'd his mega diancie with Shedinja. Guy FLIPPED and started telling me to get cancer over and over and using Phione tried to use scald on Lapras who drank it which caused him to quit. I actually saved the replay, let me see if I can find it. http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/randombattle-283551982 It's a short battle, but maybe it's the same guy. Or maybe people who wish cancer on others are just idiots in general lol. -

^So you liked Marill, Whimsicott, Togepi and Clefable more as already over used types rather than a newer type with fewer to choose from? Idk I can get behind a lot of complaints in this thread but the booing of retrotyping pokemon into fairies seems silly especially when a lot of said retypings were of typings that already had a ton of other pokemon in it. -

I was always mad none of Honedge's line was called Hexcalibur. Sees like such a cool name. -
Favorite/Least Favorite Battle Frontier Facility/Brain
Monochrome_Complex replied to Xiri's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
The battle dome, factory and pike were my favorite in Emerald. They both had such cool music too. I never even got to silver on the pyramid though, that mess was HARD. I liked Lucy most, followed by Nolan. Tucker least, that outfit is just NOPE. For Sinnoh Frontier I like the factory, hall and roulette most. Thorton, Palmer, and delicious Dahlia are my favorite brains. -
wait...no slugma?

I remember reading about her leaving the forum from it, but I didn't know she actually died. So basically two older dudes who barely learned pokemon became gym leaders? uhhhhh

Poor Charizard is taking a beating this thread lol. But i figured it would. Goomy is another one for me. I never liked this pile of crap and his line embodies the disappointment that is gen 6, a psuedo legendary that's underwhelming and ends up with a letdown typing that squanders potential. It's my least favorite psuedo legendary yet and the memetic tomfoolery it spawned only made it worse. -
So there's some pokemon that are totally loved by the fanbase a bit more than others, but are there some you're not really feeling the hype quite as much as you think you should? Not to say they're overrated, just that these "celebrity mons" just for one reason or another just doesn't have that appeal for you much of the fanbase seems to enjoy. For me it would be Tyrantrum. Now don't get me wrong, his design is pretty freakin badass. It's powerful, it's a freakin dinosaur, it's regal and it's awesome. He's a unique typing, and while not the best pokemon EVAAAAR adds much needed power variety in dragon types(I like having dragon types that aren't pseudo legend status or insanely powerful) and is just really cool looking. I do like Tyrantrum. But I can't help but feel like Tyrantrum, cool as he is, is also a painfully shallow design. He strikes me as the Charizard of gen 6 in a way. His basis is very straightforward and obvious: a literal interpretation of Tyrannosaurus Rex, which means "King Lizard," something every little nerdy boy learned by the 2nd grade. We can see the king motif in his collar, beard, and tummy resembling a mantle, and the "crown" above his eyes. His typing is rock/dragon, which while cool, was kind of overdue for the longest and pretty much what every fakemon that was a t-rex going to be. I can't fault the typing since we never had it before but it's not exactly creative either and sort of the "obvious route" His dex info has him noted as acting like a king because he was such a badass in the prehistory world but again, it's a very obvious way to go and doesn't flesh him out too much, just more "oh look he's a king so cool." Oh and he has strong jaws too, which isn't really that exciting of a detail since he's a freakin t-rex. Plus sharpedo and Feraligtr have strong jaws too so that's not really all that interesting oif a detail. Again, all very obvious details that one could figure right from its design, also the idea of Tyrantrum bossing around legendaries feels incredibly moronic to me so I don't buy him being unmatched in the ancient world, that just feels like typical dex bull. It's like they took a literal interpretation of the T-rex' and ran with it, with Tyrantrum's entire focus being just that. Part of what makes pokemon unique is how they mix and match different concepts like lore, modern culture and real life animals together, but Tyrantrum just sort of lacks that and feels shallow as a result. I think Aurorus felt like it had more creativity put into it by comparison and while initially I liked Tyrantrum more, Aurorus has more lasting charm to her design to where I prefer her, although neither too much in battle.
