..................well, so much for my "stay in gold for a while" plan. I accidentally lost track of where I was and advanced to Plat (when I thought I was in Gold 4). fuck
Edit: It's strange. I was farming Lvl 40 Mai pretty effectively yesterday, but today I've lost all 5 time with Ojamas (with only 1 time being because neither Restart hand had the right cards)

I got 220, so it should be enough, unless the event has some ridiculous cost.
The longer they wait, the less viable it will be in even Casual duels.
And elegant Mai restarts soon, so that will be another farm-fest. I wish that the skill drop-rate was good outside PVP, since that's pretty much the only place I've gotten skill drops--except two I think. These events would be great for farming them if the rates were better.
-
id be surprised if a droppable item could only be used for a single skill, but soon we will see.
skills used to only be droppable from legendary duelists, but that got nerfed hardcore. at first, you could get duplicate skill drops, but any skill that you already had that got dropped got converted into gems, 15 to be precise. soon after, the 15 became 5, 10 or rarely 15, like the rainbow drop boxes. and now duplicate skill drops no longer exist. great for newer players as farming skills used to be hell (I went without destiny draw and duel, standby for a year), not so great for older players since less gems.
alternatively you could try the selfburn strategy, which basically means you gotta walk into casuals, bring a deck centered around lowering your own life points, and killing yourself within 1-2 turns. its boring, and you dont win, but you get one reward for every duel still, and the duels are over rather quickly. quantity over quality. when an extra duel assessment event was going on, I even managed to score both destiny board and fiend farewell on yami bakura on one day.

WE DID IT REDDIT
fourth king of games achieved. god, I love playing aliens. honestly very glad they managed to get me another kog.
after the two-loss streak that nearly sent me back to legend 2, I took a short break of a few hours before attempting again...and actually managed to win five games in a row to climb up to kog. two sylvans (fuck sylvans), one archfiend/dark world, one sea stealth attack and one shitty aromage/blue-eyes hybrid that was honestly just a free win were the five decks I faced.
compared to last month, my deck changed slightly to stand more of a chance against the overabundance of masked heroes and sylvans. my monsters remained entirely the same, but both of my brainwashing beams and cosmic cyclone got the boot, in favor of a second powerful rebirth, a forbidden chalice (fuck sylvans) and a third enemy controller.

forbidden chalice can in fact negate komushroomos effect, you just gotta activate it during the damage step. I agree on what you say with divine wrath though. I just dont really like using it, since I really like the hand advantage aliens can provide.
if your opponent is running a backrow-heavy deck, it might be an idea to not instantly smash into a-countered monsters. that way telepath can snipe backrow every turn. though if theres a lot of backrow in plat, you might wanna keep ama.
rebirth provided so much for me, it was insane. from pulling a marshalleaf'd warrior out of my grave to prevent sylvans from otking me to putting a telepath in the gy with recombination device and then pulling it out again to snipe two backrow. hell, its even given me tribute fodder before to bring out alien overlord in the most desperate of cases. powerful rebirth is that one card people initially overlooked, but by now everyones realized that of all cards in blade of spirits, rebirth is by far the best.
though if youve been going well, keep going. you still have a day to hit legend (100 gems $$$), so good luck!

I guess I didn't read Challice carefully enough at the time. Might change between the two occasionally, since both are good options
Well, I spend some gem
almost 800, but I did get a copy of Rebirth, which proved immediately useful in my first PVP today. I've seen this run in quite a few decks in PVP so finally having one will be useful. If only my tries at getting a Super Headlong Rush were successful.....I just got to Plat 4. Honestly, I only got back into PVP the last few days because the 60 dice pieces a day were better than NPC grinding. I got a bit burned out trying to get to 120 wins mostly in Platinum, so I haven't touched ranked in 2 weeks. I'll probably just get demoted to gold, stick there to rack up most of the wins next season, then try to blitz through Platinum once some of the rush dies down (maybe halfway through the month).
SpoilerThe card rewards for the event might not be great, but I've got enough copies to begin converting them for UR and SR stones.........plus the occasional gems (5 to 30) are starting to add up.
Edit: Also, changed my avatar to Touhou's resident Alien. I intended to do this when I started running Aliens this ranked season, but then I ran with Chaos Command Magician instead. Sorry if it feels like I'm copying @Ojama Yellow, but your avatar change reminded me earlier
Spoiler -
super rush headlong has seen better days tbh. its not a bad card necessarily, but its starting to suffer from the 'generic backrow getting phased out' thing. its status as a quick-play spell is good, though.
can understand the getting burned out thing- I had exactly the same going on for ranked myself. I only really picked up again yesterday, and apparently aliens were good enough to bust me from legend 1 to kog in two days. overall 139 victories this season, for both kc cup and ranked added together.
and yeah, ive noticed that theres more to the event than the card rewards. sure, theyre still shit, but ive been getting very good gems so far, and thats not even mentioning the free vagabonds you continuously get. mai is liking them.
the more ayy lmaos the better. let the alien flow through you.

attention, duelists!
yeah im doing this again, guess we are gonna have to get used to it.
konami has given us an overview of the events we can expect in may and early june, and I gotta say...eh. they seem to be recycling a lot.
first off, elegant mai will return as a roamer in duel world in early may. I wasnt really keen on her the last two times she appeared, but in konamis defense its been at least half a year since she last appeared. plus there are rumors that she will be bringing new amazoness support as a drop, which will synergize rather well with the amazoness onslaught from the new box. guess we will see.
also in early may, a new duel-a-thon is appearing- fill it up to unlock a new character! the characters flavor text is "im ready to take on the world", which indicates that the chances of it being syrus truesdale are rather high. I dont really see any other duelists that could have this line. roids are barely going to see any competitive use, but at least vehicroid connection zone into super vehicroid jumbo drill shuts down everything sylvans can do. the only problem will be getting the combo off.
mid may, another event exclusive legendary duelist is losing his event exclusive status, and will be added to the gate in duel world. this leaves yami marik and jesse anderson (and syrus truesdale too at that point) as the only event exclusive legendary duelists left. thats right, the duelist that will be added to the gate is none other than arkana! rejoice, people who wanted to run dark magician decks but couldnt because they didnt participate in arkanas event. admittedly dark magician is also kind of a rogue deck, but it can be good.
also in mid may, we get another gate unlock event, much like the yami marik event that is at its final day today and the jesse anderson event from a month and a half ago! this time the unlockable duelist will be...jesse anderson again. yeah, sorry to get your hopes up. new crystal beast support will be added, but honestly, fuck that. the same event two times in the span of less than two months just aint cool, konami. especially if its shit like crystal beasts.
late may, a new roamer will appear in duel world, and its personally the event im the most hyped for, even though he will not be unlockable. the roamer I am talking about is no one but the man, the myth, the legend, tristan "timothy" taylor! yeah! theyre giving him time in the spotlight in events that arent just april fools! im honestly so glad. I hadnt expected konami to actually do it, but now my hopes of playing as tristan taylor in the future have been given life again.
the last event in may is the second installment of the duel links world championship! the last championship was kind of a clusterfuck as some of the strongest decks were locked behind events (red-eyes) or just had straight-up no counterplay (toons). heres to hoping this wcs will be better...though with the game being focused entirely on little interaction and a lot of otks im not so sure.
onto the june events, we get a new duel-a-thon early april. yeah. rewards and that all.
moving on, a roamer is once again returning to duel world in early june- zane truesdale! this debunked pretty much all theories of the unlockable duelist from the duel-a-thon in early may being zane, sorry guys. that being said, the previous cyber dragon support wasnt too great, so im hoping to see better support this time. likely not but w/e.
the last announced event is also for duel world (gx) and early june. tag duels are returning, and this time we will be teaming up with gx characters! I hadnt participated in the last event, but I heard that it was a good event to get gems, so im not too disappointed.
overall, I feel like these events are...just a tad lackluster. the only events that really get me going are the tristan roamer event, the tag duels in june and the addition of arkana to the gate. the latter one isnt even an actual event, and the former is a roamer. you know you dun goofed when those are the coolest you can muster.
other than that, jesse anderson is returning wayyy too soon, and I fear wcs wont be that fun to play in. zane will probably not hand out the strong cyber dragon support just yet- including the actual cyber dragon, since that thing is a buff for hazy flame as well. elegant mai could be okay if her rewards arent garbage like vennu. and the way to unlock syrus is just so lame that it killed all my hype. at least more gems. and roids cant be much worse than crystal beasts, right?

the alleged datamined levelup cards for the legendary duelists between levels 41-45 in duel links has been proven to be false. rest in rip, blue-eyes twin burst dragon.

to the people that want to know the truth behind hostgator, reminder that our friendly neighborhood @Arkhionce wrote the story

started farming arkana just now, second farm, failed farm, and he dropped THIS.
IM SALTY BECAUSE THIS CARD IS SOME HOT GARBAGE AND I STILL DONT HAVE THE ALTERNATE ART DARK MAGICIAN.

'in soviet russia, rules screw you'
actually the best line I have ever heard
-
holy fuck apparently goddamn millennium-eyes restrict got datamined as pegasus' level 45 reward.

some cards in the game atm like metamorphosed insect queen, hey, trunade and sea stealth attack were more or less literally made for duel links, from what ive seen. so yeah, not really that old anymore.
also being able to straight-up lock your opponent off from activating any of their effects is pretty god damned useful id say. it could even get teched in into just about any deck by putting in the dark - hex sealed fusion.
-
Millennium-eyes-restrict? I played the deck in the past. It was ok. I wonder how much of its support will be in duel links. Without any of its support it is litteraly useless.
Millenium-eyes-restrict cannot equip on its own (and I doubt that silent wobby is in duel links) meaning that your opponent can normal summon a monster and just attack over it.
My guess is that duel links will get the fusion spell and that will be it. The monsters might be a little bit too modern.
-
the thing with duel links currently is that everything is extremely reliant on their effects. being too scared to activate them ends up crippling them, especially if the millennium-eyes is paired with strong backrow. not to mention that millennium-eyes thus can be brought out in any deck without the need of polymerization, thanks to the dark - hex sealed fusion.
it remains to be seen just how good it will be, but I imagine it could be used as an anti-meta tech card.
