Favorite Normal, Bird, Cocoon, Pikachu and Pseudo legend tropes?
Commander replied to zimvader42's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
Rodent - Raticate. Don't really care for any of the others honestly as they all are pretty meh. Raticate gets endeavor and sucker punch which is awesome. Bird - Pidgeot. Again, don't really have a prefernce here as most of the birds I like about the same (except Ufezant...who can die in a hole). Coccon - Venomoth. I suppose Beautifly would have to do. Another group of Pokemon I don't have a particular favorite, but Beautifly grew on me through a nuzlocke. Pika Clone - Pikachu. I may hate Pikachu as an entity, but Raichu is my favorite of the rodents as it's actually pretty decent in game. Blame the anime for pretty much screwing the superior rodent. Pseudo - Metagross. Psychic is my ace type for a reason and you'll rarely see me fight a Psychic Mono without this beats (I have done it before though).- 40 replies

Ymora Academy Chapter 1: Bonds [IC]
Commander replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
(Just since it's been a while) Female Dorms "I'm pretty sure I already said I'm a coordinator." Citrine was a bit surprised somebody could forget something said not that long okay. "It's okay though. I forget things all the time too." She seemed to be a little bit too proud of that point and was ready to say something when the ginger head leave to unpack her stuff. "Well, looks like the fun times are over now. I guess I may as well be going. I'll catch you later, Frosty." The nearby Skitty popped her head up when she saw the girl start walking away. While she would rather finish her nap, it was better to keep an eye on the trouble maker so she rushed over to stand beside the girl while the two headed back to the main building. -
The only illegal moves I currently have is Shade's Dusknoir who has Shadow Claw. The only reason I would use an illegal move is not to make it stronger, but to help tighten the AI up a bit. The only other illegal move was Sand Tomb on Cacnea for Florinia due to an AI exploit where it would use Nature Power on flying types often. I won't ever do anything drastic like give a Flareon Wild Charge or a Scizor Earthquake as I do reference Bulbapedia when creating movesets. I will however change Shadow Claw back into Shadow Punch once field AI has been implemented and tests correctly. (Trust me, I do quite a few tests especially on leaders to make sure they are working properly). Truthfully, I put my foot down on fake moves. I to generally believe that the game should be played without any fake stuff. Pulse Muk also has Water Pulse instead of Muddy Water...due to another AI exploit for the time being and I did have T-shock on one of the Pulse Tangrowths, but that was later dropped for being too wtf for anyone but pre Episode 10.5 players. If you want the spirit of 100% true Pokemon game, I will disappoint you as I will do slight, hardly noticeable moves in order to provide a better and more enjoyable game. When the game's AI is at its finest, this will be true to the formula I will promise you that.

Fixing it up (A Pokemon Reborn Hardcore Playthrough)
Commander replied to Commander's topic in Team Showcase
Feedback like that is worthless. Why is it too OP? If I didn't notice a different topic, I actually would've thought it was Electabuzz and nerfed only that very hard. Sorry, Zel didn't bore me, but it was kind of hazy and nothing hilarious or unexpected happened. Yeah, I don't want to have dupes to any boss fight as that's what makes them all kind of unique and lets me show off how good some pokemon can be. (I did move DD Scrafty back to give some other fighting types a chance they normally wouldn't get). Kiki is all about the mind and Meditating so that's kind of what her team is based off of (And Lucario is her Secondary Ace). I actually am up to Fern now (I just beat Cain), but I have to go to work. I actually managed to beat Solaris without Sturdy, A fighting type, or counter, and let me tell it was balls to the wall hard. It took so many resets to get just right. There's also a new nickname for a certain Pokemon. "Grim, the Potions Master." You will understand why in the update tomorrow. -
Sorry about that, I actually have it up on Mediafire and Mega. I've been slowly working on a revamp due to an unexpected surplus of exp and just some little minor lv adjustments (nothing too drastic except Florinia is changing). Mega: Link Mediafire: Link (If I could have a mod put them in the OP, I'd love you forever)

Pokémon Reborn Hardcore: Evolution is for babies
Commander replied to Redo.'s topic in Team Showcase
First I get a "It's too easy" now I get a "It's too tough" I suppose all I can really do is give Magmar Ember as Incinerate will do about the same amount of damage as Flame Burst. I'll change that for the 1.9 update. It was the one battle I didn't test because I was thinking they'd still be pitifully easy (I beat them effortlessly with their original moveset). It's a 9v2 so of course I'm going to make it somewhat of a challenge. Hopefully it'll be better in the update, but just saying so-and-so needs a nerf isn't helpful at all. I need a thorough explanation or at least something to work off of. Julia is what I like to call the wake-up call boss. She's designed that way to change your thinking that having a Ground or Grass type will guarantee victory. It also is to make Pokemon who would normally suck in Reborn (Swalot, Pelipper, ie) and flip the usability table upside down to the level shift and early evolutions being critical against the early bosses. I had to redesign Florinia due to this. Trust me, Hariyama can't even sweep her anymore. -
Shuppet will be worthless against Corey since it's too frail, but the others will work well against him. Save Onix for Crobat as Rock Tomb lowering its speed is a lifesaver against it. Onix is pretty bad which is why Sudowoodo majorly outclasses it. Vigoroth with Facade will wreck most of Corey though. Yeah, that field of his is a double edged sword.

Fixing it up (A Pokemon Reborn Hardcore Playthrough)
Commander replied to Commander's topic in Team Showcase
@Redo: Good luck getting a Sharpedo though. That fight now has 5 Pokemon instead of 3 (or was is six?) and it's quite an interesting reference along with the two leaders still sharing parallels. I'd really be interested in an Archer vs Maxwell fight with those two teams. As for Shade, I chose the said moves in order to help with that factory field problem he has with Rotom as it usually kicks on at some point. Electric types are very OP in that setting. And as for that Mega: Now onto a slightly long Episode 6: Mind over Volcano? I'll start out by saying there were quite a few new teammates added after the Zel fight. I'll introduce them right away: The Grim Creeper (Dusclops), Happy-Go-Lucky the Blissey, Hudson the Nidoking, and Sunshine the Solrock. I'm going to need a bigger box for all these pokemon, aren't I. Well here's a pic of most of the team and some possible future Pokemon (RIP Leon) So let's get started with Zel (I forgot to have pics so you'll just have to listen to my ramblings...it also means I have to try): Zel was kind of harder than I remembered. The battles went pretty smoothly with Nala spamming Flamethrower to KO that Glaceon after an Icy wind and Ice Beam. Next came out Pulse muk so Jack the Grumpig decided to have a little fun. Jack knocked its HP down to Half with Psyshock before being KO'd by a Discharge (this thing has pitiful Defenses). Can't actually remember who got the KO. I think I had Nala use Flamethrower before being KO'd and Creepy bird finished it off with a Quick Attack. Next came out Jolteon as I had Shaggy poison it with Toxic and then used Amnesia while it eventually died to the poison (that or Creepy bird came in to finish it off). Next came out Flareon, but Mickey laughed at its pitiful Flare Blitzes and KO'd it with a Second Brine. Now came out Umbreon, but I had a plan for this one. I sent out Cologne (did I mention its a male?) who set up a couple calm minds before KOing Umbreon with a few Drain Kisses and a Moonblast. Next came out Espeon who was hit hard by Moonblast before being KO'd by a Psychic. I think Manectric then came in and finished the fight off with a Discharge. Sorry, it's been like 3 days and it wasn't too interesting of a fight. ----------------------------------------------------- And now there was a side grind fest before Cal as I realized I didn't have that good of a team. So I began training those said pokemon above...which actually didn't take as long as you think. The Lucky Egg and Exp Share Combo was such a good idea and cut back so much time. Heck, it was way faster than that Challenge run which could take hours for one Pokemon and it was nearly impossible to train new guys. Now onto Cal: Vs Cal This fight was actually kind of hard. I decided to lead with Sunshine (Solrock) who tanked a Close Combat before OHKOing that Infernap with Psychic. Next came out Typhlosion so I activated my master plan and sent out Happy-Go-Lucky the Blissey. Part A of my strategy was to have Happy use minimize which due to the field was maxed out in 3 turns. I don't really know what Typhlosion did as it usually missed or did laughable damage. I began setting Blissey up for charge beam...but then I realized Charge Beam only has 10 BP. My only attack move is kind of pitiful. Anyways, Cal wastes all his potions before the Johto starter faints. Next comes in Blaziken who misses a Fire Punch and is nailed by a Charge Beam. Then my master plan backfired. Hi-Jump-Kick somehow hit a Plus 6 Evasion Blissey killing it. After a moment of swearing, I send out Jack who finishes the foe off with Psybeam. This is not looking good since my tank was um...dead. Next came out Charizard so I sent out Shaggy to poison it. Shaggy lived a Mega Zard's Dragon Claw and nailed it with a Toxic. I decided to heal Sunshine up with a Super Potion before Shaggy died to a Dragon Claw. Hudson (Nidoking) came out lived a Dragon Claw and finished Charizard off with an Earth Power. Next came out Delphox and I'm like thinking I'm going to lose. I sent out Manectric, he lands a Discharge and Parahaxes the Delphox letting him KO it the next round without getting hit. Then it happened again with Magmortar, but Magmortar landed a Blast Burn KOing Sparkplug. I raised my hands in victory because I just one the battle. I send out Sunshine and he (technically it) finished the Ace off with Stone Edge giving me victory. That battle could've ended much, much worse, but a hax for a hax I suppose. here's a pic of that team after the battle: The Victoria fight really isn't worth mentioning. Only highlight was Creepy Bird being Creepy Bird and Mega Gallade using Night Slash on Cologne for some reason. I did get my butt handed to me by the Scrafty the first go around though. DD OP plz nerf. As for the Kiki fight, I had a pre buff where it was pretty close, but seeing as I had to test the Machamp buff out, I begrudgingly battled her again. The highlight of the first battle was where Dusclops got a will-o-wisp off on the Medicham and started kick its butt with Shadow Sneak until Ice Punch Freeze haxed it to death. Creepy Bird came in and finished it off with a Quick Attack (he does that a lot) as seen in this pick. Now for the fight with the buff (Machamp just got a buff in defenses...I like her team and think it's pretty good. I had trouble with it). So the battle started out with Colongne who basically got nailed with a Dynamic Punch after a Meditate as Machamp survived a Moonblast. I was able to KO it with a Second Moonblast after Kiki healed it once...I hate that thing. Next came out hitmonlee who...I don't really remember what happened. I think it had something to do with Sol KOing it with Psychic before Dying to Toxicroak's sucker punch. I then sent in Grumpig who activated the Sash, but was in KO range for Sucker Punch. I predicted Sucker Punch but Toxicroak had to be that guy and use Gunk Shot to Poison Creepy bird. I had Creepy Bird KO it with Quick Attack. Scrafty came out so I kept the bird in while I healed up Cologne and I think the bird died to Drain Punch and Poison. Cologne came in and spammed Draining Kiss. Then came out Lucario...who was a big problem. I had Cologne set up a Calm Mind while Lucario attacked with Aura Sphere. Cologne then KO'd it with Moonblast. Then Medicham came out and scared the crap out of me with Meditate as nothing would survive that. Cologne then OHKO'd it with Moonblast leading me to be victorious. Seriously, I don't see anything wrong with this fight outside of Machamp being a little slow and frail. Here's a pic of Cologne winning the fight: Well that's it for this episode. Next time, I'll have to figure out some way to beat Solaris...that'll be fun. The challenge is doing it without Sash Counter. Hopefully I can do it. And since I have no pic, I'm just going to name off the main team members this time: -
The RNG may hate you, but it seems like the AI favors you. The back to back fights of Blake & Fern and Solaris & John is not an easy fight by a landslide and it's amazing Julia saved your butt. Good job beating the mod and hopefully you'll continue once each episode updates. I kind of like hearing your opinion on the overall project to see how well I delivered as well as your favorite battle of the game. Congrats and RIP Crime. You were a true bro this whole trip. You could say he was a Smooth Criminal.

Not everybody uses starters or at least keep the starter on their team...which again creates a problem. I don't really see this happening honestly as there's just way too many variables that add up. What if somebody evolved there Pokemon? Then it'd cause a glitch or wouldn't activate. What if the person didn't have their starter on them? Again, there'd have to be some account for it. This would also have to involve 18 sprites, but seeing as it wouldn't be worth the effort, it'd probably not have an animation. The only way I see this working is at the very beginning of the game where it'd be implied the trainer's Pokemon was on the train...when it blew up. But that's not what we're talking about here. Even if we remove all of those variables aside and say this is possible, we have to look at the benefits. The purpose for the starter is for a variety and to play the game how you want to play it. Not everybody has a deep connection to the starter and most connections usually happen during the mid game when their weak Pokemon start becoming strong. The amount of impact a scene like this would probably be the greatest at the start, but what about replaying the game? If your starter is going to die, why would I care about what I pick? A lot about Pokemon is the amount of freedom you have in choosing Pokemon which is why many of the main games are played more than once. So by killing the starter off, you are basically against having freedom and likely will lose a chunk of your audience for the game really isn't replayable. This isn't the type of RPG for such an action due to the promotion of freedom and variety in what you choose. Character death is usually at its best when there has been some development. The more development of the character the better. Who's more memorable: the random villager who died in the first town or that one party member who's been traveling with you the whole journey only to die in the final battle? The same goes for Pokemon. Look at your team. I'm sure you can look at at least one party member and remember two or three amazing moments (in my current run I'm doing Quick Attack Creepy Bird is doing a lot of hilarious things). That's how you get attached to them and why Nuzlocke deaths can be quite painful. It's all due to build-up. Now here's the question I have to ask: even if the said thing were possible, what impact would it have on the game to make it better than it is?

http://prnt.sc/8wko72 This is either the most brilliant or dumbest strategy to try and take down Cal

That is a bit of an ignorant statement. I have known quite a few people who worked by themselves mostly on hacks who have had successful games. You do not need a full team nor would it help if anybody can't get along. If anything, that'd just hurt the project. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are two big areas in making a fan game. The stuff inside of RPG maker and the stuff outside. There's a lot of simple and tedious stuff that might burn you out or might not be skilled at such as programming or bug fixing. I mean having a couple people work on some stuff is kind of a win-win situation. They don't have to sacrifice their free time to basically this while you don't have to getting held up on that stuff slowing you down. If you have story trouble, we have plenty of good people who can peer review or help you. Plenty.

The reason why Electrode is last is actually a program which forces all leaders to use their ace last (it's the same for the official game as well). While I could remove it, it'd cause a few problems down the line. If I did remove it, I'd have Electrode know explode and replace the other Voltorb with Blitzle probably. It wouldn't be that hard to remove actually, but I'd do that down the line to see if people would want the ace for last or an overall balanced team with the ace being slightly stronger (the current leaders are designed more towards the ace for last fighting style). As for Fern, that whole battle is hell. The AI can get so screwed up in Doubles that I had to buff the fight a bit. If Magmar had Flame Burst, you have the current version. And yes, Lombre has Bubble...but this is probably the most screwed up fight in history.
-
The item is too angled to be a battle base and too small for that matter, but it's perfectly angled for an animation of some sort and if you try shrinking it down, it could also be an item. It could also be part of the background of a field effect instead of a base.
-
Unless you're doing a mono flying, he's honestly kind of easy. I'm probably going to keep it that way because he kind of is a joke in the WTC even in regular reborn (it kind of makes the Solaris dialogue more fitting). Mega Aero is pretty much the only threat on his team (...I don't even know where Armaldo came from), but I'll probably edit his team a bit so that they are a bit more defensive and more sand based. Good luck on your last update...but Ciel is a disappointment too...sorry to spoiler you so the true end is Solaris imo.
-
Actually, I was going to make a joke about the two being related, but I honestly don't see the need to change the sprite. That's like asking Ame to change Corey's pose because it's the same as Cyrus. Stupid argument with a stupid reason to change it. I may give this one a shot when it's released which is unusual as I usually like to wait for a few episodes or a big chunk of the game to be released.

Pokémon Reborn Hardcore: Evolution is for babies
Commander replied to Redo.'s topic in Team Showcase
Let me tell you, I don't even know if it is possible to do an NFE with this type of ruleset. Heck, I don't even know if it's possible for a regular run to with these rules. I would consider dropping them or allowing your pokemon to fully evolve should it be too much as some leaders like Shelly are brick walls that don't know how to die. Others are able to tear through anything that isn't defenses above 100 BST. But good luck regardless. Also, one does not simply not go over the level cap in Hardcore. -
(Shrugs) Yeah the first part is a little grindy so that Lucky Egg really helps out. 1.8 came out which boosted/fixed a few fights in the game such as the 2nd gym fight. I'm not going to spoiler you though, but kind of happy how popular this is getting.

(cracks knuckles) This is going to be a long one. It's actually kind of difficult to create characters out of thin air so often I either pick a character I know that's going to be in it or start creating a world...usually both hand in hand. It might seem confusing why creating one character is important for creating another, but I'll explain that near the end. The world is a bit trickier. Generally, you just kind of want to get the idea of customs and beliefs so that you know how the said character will fit in. This is especially important for appearance which actually does affect how good a character is. Now let's get started with building a great character: Since you already have a plot laid out (or at least a general one) it's kind of time to start picking out that core for a character. Generally, I just pick something random or maybe strange such as an old man with Alzheimer's (I'm going to use Hermit from Revolution...so this will contain a couple minor spoilers). It kind of just seems out there for a moment especially as to why he's a gym leader with a condition like that. It'd make sense if he was forced out of retirement due to an accident so it was a desperate time for the league and had to let Hermit step back up. At this point, you kind of get a feel for how this character fits into the world so personality is the next step to work on. To make a great character, you have to put a little bit of yourself into it. You don't exactly have to be the character, but sometimes a memory can help you better flesh it out. Hermit has a memory problem similar to how I have a short term memory. It kind of feels like you don't know what happened for the last few seconds which usually left me confused and frustrated. I'd put those feelings into the character by making him seem a bit flustered whenever his brain goes kaput. What the players should feel is something similar to those around them though. Hermit is generally a Hermit and often gets on people's nerves or leaves them going more or less WTF! So seeing him do something to PO players off might hit them the same way as what a person in that town would feel. This creates a connection (no matter how bizarre) to the character and heightens the engagement. Just look at any video game you've played and you'll quickly catch on to first impressions of a character. See what made you notice that character and what made you keep wondering about them. First impressions are always good, but they don't always make a character. Once you get somebody's attention, you'll eventually want to let them get to know the character better. I'll use old Hermit again. Later on in the story, the player visits the doctor where they find out a little bit more on his condition and how the doctor had to implant a machine inside his brain to keep his mind stable. The said machine causes some memory loss which is why Hermit acts the way he does. So now there's a connection between the Doctor and Hermit. That's not the only place where the character branches and seeing the relation from one character to another works. Just look at the number of relations in Reborn. It's kind of like Anna's string theory for Shelly which is exactly how to make a character good. That's basically how you build a character, but your concern is what makes a character bland. You don't need to go over the top or opposite personalities to make your characters stick out. Bland is more of it's expected, it's predictable, and it just feels boring. A good way to test this is to line up a set of characters. I'm actually going to use a novel idea I have in this example since it's the least spoilery one. Let's say in order to save a village, an innocent person has to be killed. Person A wouldn't do it because it'd mean breaking his code of not killing the innocent. Person B wouldn't do it because he was in a similar situation earlier. Person C wouldn't do it because of a promise he made a long time ago. All three have the same action but different reasoning and their personalities would also make them take a little bit different actions. If your characters are all doing the same thing for the same reason...you'll want to look a bit deeper and see how to adjust them or make them stand out a bit more (emphasize the differences). But yeah, you rarely get the character on the dot the first go around. Sometimes you just need a little bit of time to work out the kinks of the characters. Revise, revise, revise. I've had characters I've absolutely hated, but over time some of them turned into my favorites. You just can't expect a character to turn out perfectly the moment you think of them. That's generally why I spend a couple months and even to a year planning out a story before even starting it. It just doesn't all fall into place right away. Nothing in writing ever does. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now onto dialogue. Dialogue is usually where the bland and boring stuff comes into place. If everyone speaks the same, it's going to become a bore fest reading it all. You have to inject personality into them or it'll get boring. Avoid being monotone is probably my best advice. The best way to describe that is everybody kind of speaking like Florinia in Reborn. If everyone did that, the story would be boring as hell. That tone works for Florinia because she's supposed to have a robotic personality...given her diary entry. It actually clashes well with Julia's peppy personality which pretty much shines through every time she speaks. Just try to take notes on characters and notice the word choice for each of them. Florinia uses a higher grade vocabulary while Julia uses made up and funsies type words. Another thing to do is to help balance out the types of dialogues. Basically spread out the humor moments after something serious happen and make sure to keep the moments of foreshadowing spread out and all well done. And no, the dialogue doesn't have to have strange quirks to be good. It just has to be well written (Xenoblade Chronicles is a good example of this).

ROLF! I am just dying right now. The fact that you've had this long of a streak is both sad and hilarious. The RNG must really hate Gen V especially with all those loses like Reuniclus, Chandelure, and now Vanilluxe. You'll coming toward the end though so I hope you can pass the final test (Ciel is pretty much the obligatory gym badge...which is why I say Solaris is the end of the mod). As for that other battle:
