SoA: In God's Shadow [OOC]
Commander replied to Sutoratosu's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Gonna take the blame on this one since I didn't think about how fast this thing moved and the original post you made got buried. I'll put the names of people I'm interacting with in the tags now and not just the places. If only I were legendary, then maybe we could slide with Legendary Commander, but eh, never done anything worth praising in the long run.- 151 replies

Basically the lazy answer but Insurgence gives Pokemon only 1 exp per fight after they hit a certain level until another gym badge is gained iirc.

<< >> >Does this stuff anyways >>Doesn't ask for money >>>Knows what you want before you know you want it I'm just going to warn you that if you do anything mod wise right now that you'll have to update it for a future episode which one should be coming soon which more or less means completely redoing everything you do...especially since this episode redoes Reborn City which oh boy am I not looking forward to for Hardcore which is why I designed it in a way to easily transfer stuff. I'm not trying to scare you as when I started Hardcore I was expecting something the size of a wagon, but my god is it a Semi in terms of work at points. The biggest difference between the two of us I suppose is that I generally mass produce any mod I do (in fact most add ons are to help give it a bit more sandbox feel) while I see your trying to make a custom game for people...which uh...I don't know how much demand there really is for that since people don't expect much more than what they get from the maker. The reason Hardcore exists is because of a divide in the community appealing towards people who enjoyed the older reborn's style and difficulty. I know Zeta and Omnicron really shined mostly because of all the features they had. It's weird when I say this, but I think Reborn's lack of them is both beneficial and hurtful to it at the same time. Anyways, I probably would do your research on stuff people like to do with their games and you'd kind of realize what to focus on. Here's my list of things that you could do: -Radomizer (will be added to Hardcore) -TM Breeding (added for Hardcore) -Insurgence's Level System (added for Hardcore) -Multiple difficulties (Hardcore is a custom made Hard mode...but there's no easy mode currently) -Nuzlocke Mode -Limit Features (No healing allowed, no switching, pp limiter, etc) -Secret Base -Tournament System (Hardcore has a pseudo gym leader castle but no other plans as of right now) -Items replacing the HMs -Alternate fights for leaders (one of my test projects in Hardcore) I won't lie that people can come up with the craziest ideas for things to do to Hardcore, but I'm very limited in my programming skills as of right now so I have to be a bit theoretical. Besides I have AI hell to handle. I also advise to not make everything separate and compile it into one file unless something is very obscure or...you won't update it for future episodes (again, I know what I'm doing when I add stuff).

Fern Burn - Hardcore Fire Monotype Reborn run (EP15 Complete)
Commander replied to drevance's topic in Team Showcase
Technically that fight was going to be a 6 vs 8 but since I gave Taka 5 before, it wouldn't make since for his Klefki to disappear. That Qwilfish probably is the most interesting thing on his team and just as an FYI all those Pokemon you suffered will be available to get including that Nidoqueen which is implemented already. Just have to make a pain in the butt sidequest to make. Oh Corey how everyone loves and hates him for being that frustrating. I won't lie when I say that I purposely made him harder than he should be difficulty wise (aka Field Corey is much easier for that reason). You completely ruined what little happiness he had in his life so I wanted the fight to reflect that which is why he can hit so dang hard as he wants to completely destroy you. That's a hard feeling to capture in a battle. But yeah, making some of the early game teams was kind of fun...and Rain Dance Heliolisk was the most frustrating thing every to create. But yeah I try to stay a little bit unpredictable since most people who play hardcore played Reborn and I also like to take everyone's cheese strategies and rip them in half more or less to make them think. Of course even I have limits in my skills which start to show very late in the game. -
Gan-Man, a plaza filled with giants hindering the site of our young medic friend Pitiful site. I suppose it's prettier than seeing the many graveyards of mons which used to be known as cities. I've seen what I've came to... The psychic type lost his focus when a big lump of something managed to hit him. He lost his balance only for a moment using the stick to keep himself up only to hear a loud snap sound in his back. Painful yes, but the aged mon had trained himself well to hide his pain as any sound would drag attention. He shifted his legs for a little making another loud snap. This time he felt a little better than before...or at least he wouldn't have to slouch to get around. He took a glance town noticing a small green thing. A child would be the one to cause problems for him. He always wondered if it were a blessing or a curse to be born into this cursed era, not knowing how beautiful life really was all those years ago. He didn't have time to relax into his thoughts like usual since this child was clearly in a hurry. He placed a single finger on his head, not because he needed to, but to give this child an idea what he was doing. "The hell was that for, jackass." Though a single word did not come from his mouth, the words could be heard loud and clear to the grass type and only her. "If you rush around helping these fools like an idiot, you'll only have even more of them to take care of."

I'm going to phrase this in a way so that people can copy and paste this every time this question is asked: "Do you want Ame to purposely withhold the episode for an extra month or two so that she can give an exact date, or would you rather let her finish and release it when it's good and ready after an unknown amount of time?" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyways, pretty sure the second one is fake, but the first one looks a little weird with that background for seismic toss. Of course, I know next to nothing about animations so...the bottom looks like a suicide squad of dunsparce to me.

[Recruiting GFX Artist] [POLL] Pokemon Darkness
Commander replied to pbood2's topic in Resources and Tutorials
So let me get this straight. You still have that composer, but you don't have enough faith in him so you're going to try and look for a replacement while he's still working for you. I honestly feel bad about your composer since you are more or less, forgive my language, talking shit about him in front of everybody. Sorry if anyone get offended by this, but it's okay to cover up some stuff or avoid talking about it. A simple "Music is a much bigger task than we anticipated so I'm looking for additional help with a couple songs" looks better and isn't a lie either. Essential's uses Ruby Script so once you know the basic difference in commands (which are very similar to other coding), you can do quite a bit. The hardest part is figuring out what is where but once you have that down, bug fixing isn't so bad. You just have to be really, really good at remembering where your screw ups are or...it's going to be a very, very bad day.- 111 replies

Gan-Mac...somewhere in the Sky Pillar Cold...bitter cold. If only I could lie here and perish so blissfully. Such a burden knowing if I die, it could be the end a prosperous future. A figure cloaked in a cloth of blue so worn it could even be considered grey to some. The owner opened his eyes glaring at cold wall built to suit an ancient dragon. He reached his thin arm to grasp a wooden stick with his sharp handed claws. The thin bodied figure manged to get his feet using the large stick that some have mistaken for a giant spoon. For now, it was going to have to serve as a walking stick as the figure pushed forward a bit. Slowly making his way toward a crooked cone upon the ground. Miraculously, the cone decided to fly and land upon his head matching in color to his cloak. He turned his head and noticed a black book in the corner. He reached he hand out once more lifting the book into the air. He flipped page after page glancing at the ink that had filled its contents nearly full noticing that the first few pages were slowly fading but still legible nonetheless. Nothing seemed to be out of place as he put the book in his small bag, hidden by the cloak alongside his other one. I don't know why I even bother with this book, he thought to himself. It's not like anyone will be able to read it in the future anyways. His concentration was broken when he heard noise of mons all chattering away. He walk closer to the mons talking, something he usually avoided at all costs, hearing enough to get a full picture. "So, he has returned it seems. There's 30 or so more men alive than I predicted. Only a fool would go out there with such a large number and expect to come back alive." He then looked at the wall one more time. Though I suppose being stuck in this place has weakened me so staying here forever would spell doom as well. Ever since that day my powers are nowhere near as honed as they used to be. I couldn't even teleport to break a fall...without hitting that blasted wall. Inertia is hard to stop without full concentration so it'd be understandable, but I'm far better than this. He continue his way slowly to see what few men had survived such a massacre.

Fern Burn - Hardcore Fire Monotype Reborn run (EP15 Complete)
Commander replied to drevance's topic in Team Showcase
The thing about Julia is that if you try to power through her and treat her like vanilla reborn's pushover, you're going to get your ass whooped. Funny enough I'm the only person in the world who never thought she was hard but to each their own. It's to teach people a painful lesson of you can't beat a leader with just one or two Pokemon (generally recommend a full team) and to learn about the tools around you such as the majestic Gulpin. Anyways, designing the leaders could be a real...unpleasant experience of face smashing into a wall. Getting Florinia to even use hazards and statuses was an ordeal in and of itself. Let's just say I put way too much effort into these designs since enemies hitting stupidly hard does not make for fun gameplay which is why my focus was strategy. As long as AI doesn't go to janktown next episode, their shouldn't be that much of a difference in difficulty in future episodes other than the AI stops being...dumb sometimes. As for Obsidia, that's the original game's designs fault since there's a ton of events (300 maybe) which can actually cause it to lag hard especially due to no gates connecting the maps meaning it all has to unload a ton of events then load just as many. Pain in the butt, but it picks and chooses when to kick in but goes away eventually. -
TBH, I'm thinking about scraping that fight entirely or changing it seeing how people have started doing things I didn't want them too. What I'm probably going to do with Johnathan is decrease his scan movement by 1 so that people can get the exp share. Though the reference seems to cause more confusion than harm since this expanded way, way beyond the people who I originally designed this for since it's a throwback to a lot of the older Reborn episodes. (Though it might become a feature for the thing shown below) The reason the lucky egg is there is mostly for Julia and Corey since there's really not any good way to grind in this game and leveling up at those point in the game is brutal due to the level shift. Since E16 is adding in more rebattable trainers for the earlier parts of the game, along with Julia being "nerfed" for a level 15 cap, I don't see as much of a need for it in coming episodes. Yes, I'm ready for a shitstorm of hate for those decisions, but they'll make sense soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright time for another development update since it's August. I did a couple livestreams testing out a new little feature added to the game called Nostalgia mode. Every hear someone go "Back in my day, Serra used to be a lot harder being the hax queen making Charlotte look easy." Well...worry not friends as you to will get to somewhat live out those frustrating days. If a leader had a different fight in the older episodes (aka Shelly, Radomus, "Noel", and Serra), you can fight the leader using a team based on that. "But Commander, what if I don't want if I want to fight Shelly's Singles, but not Serra's Doubles?" Worry not as everybody's favorite gym guy will let you turn this mode on or off for every gym fight. There are a few other surprised in there outside of leaders which older players might recognize, but that's going to be a surprise. This mode along with other features also are selected in the intro so...you'll have to play a new game to use them. I added an option to use TM breeding along with the level limiter as well though the latter probably isn't going to be as useful outside of power grinding a new mon aka CoM training. The Randomizer, with the option to make bosses not randomized (normal trainers will have randoms still though because this is a big enough pain as it is). Then there's phase 2 to of the CoM post-game, but I'm not sure how far I'll get on that one tbh. So yeah quite a bit is done, but there's quite a bit left to go before I make another update since I decided I'm just going to get it all done before making another release and honestly, a lot of this stuff is things I wanted to do since the start of making this mod.

SoA: In God's Shadow [OOC]

Strat you picked what has to be one of the worst possible times to start the RP (well for me...) since there's something really, really major happening at work and I'm barely able to keep myself up trying to prepare for it. I can't post today and I'm not sure if I'll be able to Wednesday (depends on how sleep deprived I am) but come Thursday I should be able to post quite a bit more. Feel so bad but trying to do a post now would more or less be something super eligible. I'm going to go to sleep now before I crash on this laptop.- 151 replies

While there's a lot that could be said, all I really see is someone getting really upset for not getting what they want. I pretty much had to wait 7 Episodes to get the mon I wanted (technically he's not official until 16's release), but you don't see me complaining. The legendaries rule is pretty much based on the league along with the fact that mythical pokemon...really don't make a lot of sense within a storyline until you're at your peak (aka when you're champion). It'd be weird for some amateur trainer to be running around with a pokemon with power passed down through stories. Speaking of legends, I do have a little plan for Hardcore if I'm still around when they become available. Let's just say it's something called CoM X-league and it will have similar rulesets to the actual X-league. Gonna be a pain to make, but what else are you going to train and use a Mythical Pokemon on. (I might make a ban list though). And again, it'd be a one legend per run like the rules.

For fan-games aka non-hacks: Pokemon Raptor Ex. Not the worse thing I've ever played, but definitely has a lot of errors that I can't overlook (and every attack was a fire ball...including growl). It did not age well but it's one worth trying if you're bored (mostly for that Arceus fight which Ame probably will have a hard time topping). For hacks...let's see...I have to give it up to Pokemon Quartz since the game is so bad I didn't even make it past the first few areas. Let's just say some of the patches actually have Rayquaza and Groudon fakes in the first route kind of messed up. Usually hacks are a lot worse than fan-games since they can get to crazy levels of...terrible.

For your first statement, it's very immoral for a coder to take someone else's script and use it for themselves. They can look at the code to understand it but generally you want to start from scratch except when someone gives you permission to use it like essential's does. Personally I feel like Reborn doesn't really need it as you don't use key items all that much in the normal playthrough (hence why I'd probably wait until the last episode if doing it at all). As for your second question, this is a whole Reborn vs Hardcore vs Rejuvenation type deal as they all aim for different objectives and their methods for grinding are very different for that reason. I'll start with Rejuvenation. The reason I feel all those Audino trainers are there is due to the horrible level spikes and trainer implementation as I just always felt like my mons were too weak being 8-10 levels below a boss and I rarely ever traded them out. Experience in the main story was so severely lacking. The Audino trainers are also counterproductive since they only give HP EVs...which can be very bad for some pokemon if it's 252. So imo, it's just a scapegoat, a good one, but doesn't excuse some issues. (Do note my info is a bit outdated as I've only played Version 6 of the game) Now I'll move onto Hardcore. Rebattable trainer haven't been touched, but they are much more manageable due to a 5 level shift. Hardcore focuses mostly on strategy so I give out an exp share and lucky egg at the start so people can swap out and use rotation teams of up to 8 without going really out of their way to grind. Rarely will you ever need to spend time grinding unless you train up a couple new team members which you probably will need to. The tradeoff is that you'll often be wasting experience due to level above the level cap. The fact I need a level cap to make it difficult is a huge issue I've just accepted and I am working on things such as a level limiter to reduce stressful overleveling. And yes, I give you guys way too much experience up until about Radomus who's the only leader where you'll have a hard time being at the right level. Then there's Reborn who I feel got it just right. There's something people seem to forget about this game. It was originally brutally hard due to it's design. Lack of money at the start due to magikarp fisherman who eats your soul (and the ralts event), very limited experience outside of wild battles (there were no rematch trainers iirc or they were hard to train off of), and common candies did not exist until after episode VII. It's grown a bit softer over the following episodes, but you have to put in a lot of work to get a better Pokemon which in return makes the game easier. The game is also designed so that you rarely ever have to worry about being too low leveled due to leader and boss designs so usually just going everywhere and fighting everybody is more than enough to get through the main story. Maybe not the most efficient, but definitely possible. The thing about Reborn's system is also a double edged sword. Due to how hard it is to train up a new mon, team variety can be a little bit lacking. If you look at an early game vs late game mon usage you'll notice Aya is basically the cut off point for using any new mons. Rotom, Reuniclus, Chandelure, Scraggy, Aerodactyl, Conkeldurr, Bisharp, Whimsicott...how many teams do you see with any of those mons? Ultra powerful mons don't get used as often as their weaker counterparts such as Meowstick and its due to the system. It's really well designed when you can demote the ultra powerful to push for more creative teams and the ignored mons which is why Reborn does it best. This is a very, very oppinionated topic so don't take it personal but to summarize: Reborn: Less experience, shallow variety, constant difficulty Hardcore: More experience, high variety, easier late game difficulty Rejuvenation: Less experience, moderate variety, difficulty swings

I seriously don't know how Ame manages to make the partner so bad and so frustrating that sometimes you wish you could fight them on your own. I know Hardcore partners are a lot better and I don't understand how either of us made them good or really bad. Anyways, this fight is a bit easier than Hardcore's but hopefully I can help a bit from my memory since it's been a long time since I faced them and due to a glitch I had to face them alone. Aya's damage output is atrocious...no offense to anyone but you need to keep her alive so that you don't get doubled up by two mons since very little can survive two attack which would be four the next turn. You'll likely want to take down Aster first since he's physical but you'll want to ko Lunatone and Solrock ASAP since those two are your biggest threats. Keep your hard hitters such as Noivern and Delphox alive. I mean my Roserade was the only thing that could really take down enough pokemon on a 6 vs 10 fight, but I believe 65ish should be good even up to the gym leader so if you're still having problems I'd train up some of the weaker mons you have since this is a really good time to do it.

A. Mud Sport does clear out the field however it's hardly noticeable. I only know this due to sleep powder testing which I do have videos proving it. The electric terrain background just doesn't go away is all. B. The background music is overshadowing your voice a little bit so I suggest turning it down a few notches so it doesn't overpower you. Other than that, your speaking is pretty good and I can understand you pretty well. C. I'm surprised how you were able to beat that Rayquayza way early and found a tactic (Froakie just shot up so many levels which was hilarious). Only other way that early was with trubbish aftermath but still kudos to you for breaking my game. D. That Julia song switch was something I was testing for a battle in E16 so I'll fix it in the release in August. I think what happened is that I janked up the script and had to redo so much over I forgot about that. Anyways, it's always nice seeing people talk about Hardcore one way or another and I generally watch every single thing usually for entertainment. And I'll be watching those videos so feel free to say anything you want...well not anything but you get the idea as I try to listen to what people say.

I still think Nintendo is still trying to ride off of the idea that a gimmick is what'll bring them revenue in the console market and when you think about it, it kind of makes since. PS4 and XB1 both are going to have stronger hardware and have been out which will be hard to compete with. If Nintendo didn't have their AAA games and fanbase, then they'd be down and out of the market before you know it. The problem isn't the hardware though, but the lack of games PEOPLE WANT TO BUY! I'm a die hard nintendo fan, but I've been slowly moving away from it due to the lack of games. Anyways, I've been playing Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force and while it's not the greatest game in the world, it's still a lot of fun. What I'm really surprised is the low amount of fan service coming from a Compile Heart game aka the makers of Hyperdimension. Also there is a canadian speaking villager in this game who wields a scythe.

1. Dunno but feel like more Pokemon were replaced for balancing than forgotten. 2. Only when a new episode comes out so like...I played a year and a half ago 3. Assuming each tile is one square foot, .005 approximately. It's a complicated math problem that would take me 3 days to calculate. 4. See Dratini tile, Togepi Egg quiz, Hardcore's hidden event tile, and what would've been the Beldum Event.

Some of you haven't been paying attention to the train tracks it seems. While yes the desert is one destination the train can go to...there is another place this train can go. Anyone remember a certain Rail cave?

(Looks at code for about 10 seconds) New feature coming to hardcore: the breedable TM system is back (I'll probably link it to nostalgia mode tbh). But imo, I prefer the new system over the old one. The thing about TMs is that once they become available they are infinite compared to the one time only Gen IV style which is why it was needed in the first place. Sure it cripples some mons, but it can also snap the game in half quite easily for the expert breeders. So why then would I add it back into hardcore? One reason: "In order to optimize xxx to the fullest please download episode 12 to use TM breeding." People are suggesting to use a version that came out two years ago and I could still see it happening in the next two episodes as well. It's mostly a feature I just negated. Then again, I rarely even breed or reset event mons in the first place for Hardcore even since Shadow Sneak Gallade was my first one.

I'm assuming you're talking about normal Reborn, because...
I actually found Shelly to be the easiest Gym Leader thus far. Turns out bugs don't like being in the middle of a burning forest.
