  1. Jacob's going to want to be on the ground since that's where his Pokemon excel (for now...)
  2. Jacob sighed in relief as he saw Kristen enter the camp. I'm glad she's safe. But Evan Reeves... Isn't that the guy who's kind of a jerk to everyone? he wondered. He then shook his head. I barely know him. I shouldn't be making assumptions like that, he thought to himself. As he began to hear about the formation of a search party, he couldn't help but feel as though he should be a part of it. After all, if he were the one separated from the group he would want as many people as possible looking for him. Thus, he quickly ran over to Tyron after a hurried "Excuse me" to Alastair. Once he reached the professor, he spoke quickly and without preamble. "Professor, I know that I'm not the most experienced Trainer yet but I want to help look for Evan. He's all of our classmate and I know that if I were in his situation I would want as much help as I could get." Arete nodded in affirmation. "Pi! Toge-pi!" she cried out, determined to help her Trainer win over the professor.
  3. A look of unmistakable sadness and anger came over Jacob's face as the professor explained his theory about the stampede. "But..." he began, unable to complete the sentence. He looked confused and visibly upset. Arete booped him on the nose, but her Trainer had too much on his mind to be brought out of his funk by such a simple gesture. He held the Togepi protectively, not even realizing he was doing so. He then looked back up at Alastair. "But why would somebody hunt them?" he said softly, his voice almost a whisper. "They're peaceful Pokemon. They didn't do anything wrong until they stampeded, and even that was only because they were scared and hurt." He then looked down at Arete. His eyes grew misty, but no tears fell. "Pokemon should live alongside us, not in fear of us," he said as he fought back his anger and confusion. A single tear fell from his eye and Arete leaned upward, wiping it away with a stubby arm and giving her Trainer a concerned look. "Thanks, Arete," he whispered, hugging her once again.
  4. Sonny grinned and shook his head as Alina took off. Better stay close behind. His deerlike legs allowed him to bound forward, quickly making up the distance between himself and the students with huge leaps. He grinned once more as he saw that he had been completely outpaced by Alina. Girl's quick, I'll give her that.
  5. Dru nodded. "I see. So there's division within the ranks. Interesting..." he trailed off, stowing that bit of information away for later. He then looked back at the rest of the group, puzzled as to why none of the others had spoken up yet. Surely they had their own curiosities about the gnolls?
  6. Dru nodded, pointing in the direction they'd seen the gnoll running off in. "He went that way. Bunch of patrols went and followed him, so I'd hurry up if I were you. And it's good to see that not every member of Ashnard's forces is as ruthless as he seems to be. Should we cross paths again, I will be sure to remember you," he said, extending a hand to the gnoll.
  7. You can also present it on a -5 or -10 minutes timeline and then at the end of your post catch up to the current events. That's what I tend to do if I've missed a large portion of IC events.
  8. Dru thought to himself for a moment. Had these Free Creatures wanted us dead, we would already be headed in that direction. But to trust them completely would be folly, especially in a hostile land like the Shattered Hills. "We are heading southward. We simply wish to get away from whatever it is that killed the villagers back there," he replied coolly, not wanting to give away their specific destination.
  9. Dru sighed in disappointment in himself. "Sorry, friends. If my magic had been active, we would not have been taken so off guard. That being said," he continued, turning toward the gnolls. "Thank you for the warning. Most of your troop would have slain us the first opportunity they had, I take it. So why help us?" he said bluntly.
  10. Jacob sighed in relief as Kiai evolved and was able to defend his Trainer. I'm glad no one got hurt from that. Now it's time to figure out if everyone's okay! With that, Jacob smiled at Chalchi. "You did great! Take a good rest," he said gently stroking the Lapras's neck. He then hit the return button on her Ball and released Arete, picking up his Togepi and smiling broadly at her. "You did amazingly, Arete. I'm so proud of you. But let's go talk to the professors and find out what the hell just happened." He began to jog toward the faculty, Arete smiling broadly and enjoying the ride. Eventually, he managed to catch up with Alastair. "Excuse me, Professor, but do you know why the Donphan stampeded like they did? Some people almost got really hurt," he said with a twinge of regret as he looked toward Robert.
  11. Ok I mean I guess if helping to stop a stampede of dangerous Pokemon makes Robert mad then I won't argue with you. And yeah, the intent the whole time was to just put the "extras" to sleep. The others would be too focused to be totally conked out by an AoE Sing.
  12. I put a LOT of qualifiers in my post to make sure they weren't all asleep. I said that at least several (i.e. the ones you guys were battling) were still awake. If you all still want me to change it I will, but I by no means said all of them were asleep. The purpose of Jacob's action was to put the ones that weren't involved with anyone to sleep I changed the last part to make sure anything battling stayed awake.
  13. I actually just posted. I hope that didn't seem OP. If it did I can always edit it.
  14. Sure enough, both of Chalchi's attacks landed spot-on and the rampaging Donphan cried out in pain. One of them looked rather befuddled, but before long both slipped on the ice and fell to the ground. Immediately after that, Arete's attacks hit the two Donphan. Both began to clumsily attempt to get up, only to fall on the ice once more. Eventually they both gave up, simply lying on the ice sheet and looking up at Jacob with sad eyes. "Sorry fellas, but you needed to be stopped. Now go to sleep," he commanded. "Chalchi, use Sing." The Lapras craned her neck toward the Donphan and began to sing them a lullaby. The pair drifted off to sleep as the ice began to dissipate from their body heat. "Excellent work, guys! Now onto the rest!" he said excitedly. "Chalchi, freeze yourself a path to the middle of the camp. Arete, you're done for now. You can rest," he said gently, hitting the return button on the Togepi's ball. He then hopped on his Lapras's back as she began to slide toward the center of the camp. Jacob took stock of the situation. Mareek and Claude had mollified many of the herd by attack or by Stun Spore, but there were still several chasing around students who hadn't been able to react in time. "Alright, Chalchi, let's put on a show for these guys. Use Sing, but this time make it loud." Jacob then put his hands around his mouth, hoping to Arceus that everybody would be able to hear him. "HEY! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FALL ASLEEP, COVER YOUR EARS! NOW!" he hollered at the top of his lungs. "Okay, Chalchi. Your turn." The Lapras cleared her throat, something Jacob had never heard her do before. Oh, Arceus, this is going to piss off a lot of people... he thought to himself. Still, better pissed off than stomped on. Chalchi began to sing loudly, the volume of her song louder than Jacob had ever heard his Lapras before. He felt his eyelids start to get heavy and covered his ears. He immediately felt better as the majority of the mysterious sound waves were blocked by his hands. He watched as many of the Phanpy and Donphan around him began to slow their pace and begin to curl up on the ground, snoozing peacefully. "Keep going for a little longer!" he encouraged his Pokemon, still covering his ears. Eventually the song stopped. The ones who had been actively battling were too lively to be quelled by the song, but the ones who had been running around somewhat aimlessly were, for the better part, taken care of.
  15. I'll post again later to finish my Donphan battle. Jacob was standing in front of one of the cabins (turns out it's the girls' cabin >>), so there shouldn't be any in there unless someone feels like bunnying my character getting trampled (that was a joke please don't).
  16. GUYS, THE EXTRANEOUS STUDENTS ARE IN THE BUILDING. NOT THE DONPHAN AND PHANPY. L2READ Q_Q
  17. I think Acqui's idea was for Team Dusk to only really be recruiting people who had a reason for fighting, thereby keeping to a minimum the chance of betrayal. And regarding the side character thing, Notus has a very good point. It's hard to jump into the middle of an RP, especially for the people who don't have as much time in a day to post. Give it time
  18. Jacob stood up, immediately on guard as he heard the rumbling. Once the herd began to stampede toward the camp, however, he began to react. "Chalchi, out now! LET'S GO!" he roared, running toward the building where the other students had fled. He stood protectively in front of it and threw Chalchi's ball into the air, releasing the Lapras in front of him. "Chalchi, let the professors deal with the ones that are still charging. We have to protect the other students!" As he gave orders to Chalchi, two Donphan began to charge toward the cabin with their heads lowered, clearly intending to leave the camp and not caring what was in their way. "Chalchi, time to take action! Use Slip 'n' Slide!" he shouted. A glowing ball of water appeared in the Lapras's mouth and she fired it in front of the Donphans, intending to hit the beasts' heads and legs as well as soak the ground. After the Water Pulse had been fired, a chilly aura began to surround her and the grass began to frost over toward the Donphans. Any water on or under the Donphans would freeze as a result, damaging the rampaging Pokemon as well as causing them to lose their balance. "Now, Arete, come on out!" he shouted as he threw her ball into the air. The Togepi looked from Chalchi to Jacob, realizing it had been released in the middle of the battle. "Use Sweet Kiss on those Donphans so that they can't get up off the ice!" The Togepi nodded, a determined expression coming over the adorable egg's face. She blew two kisses, one toward each Donphan. The oversized lip projections traveled quickly toward them. Jacob could only hope the two wild Pokemon would be on the ground before they were hit.
  19. Dru nodded at Flint's sage words, continually impressed by his wisdom and grace. "I of all people know this, Flint. It was you who convinced the other Dwarves to take me in. Not because you pitied me, but because you saw in me what others could not see through the hue of my skin. And that has made all the difference." He looked to Helze once more. "I promise you this, Helzebeth: I will not rest easy until we have discovered your father's fate. To be deprived of the person you truly love in this world is a fate worse than death, and I would not wish that on any friend of mine."
  20. Dru nodded in understanding, blinking away what few tears were in his eyes and clearing his throat. "Neither of my parents were magically inclined, so they were naturally a bit surprised that their already-misfit son had an affinity for sorcery. It didn't exactly make them more popular with the townsfolk, but then again nothing they did would have helped with that sort of situation."
  21. Dru nodded. "Yes, although I hail from the mountains. Life is harsh there, but it is where I first began to commune with the Earth. I think that is the reason I have such a strong connection to her. My mother was human. My father... Not so much," he said wistfully, his eyes becoming slightly misty at the memory of his parents. "Flint was more of a father to me than anyone else I've known. To see him again is more of a blessing than you could possibly imagine." He put a reassuring hand on Helze's shoulder. "I know how you must feel. Do not worry, though. We are all here to help."
  22. What do you think of Chapter 2? Did you enjoy it? Yes, absolutely. You did a great job of providing people with opportunities to tell more about their characters as well as giving us insight into how the Academy actually runs. What about my writing? Where can I improve? Your grammar could use a bit of work. Other than that, keep on keepin' on! Which characters under my control feel real / which characters need improvement? I happen to like the vast majority of them, although Sofia felt like she was just a mite too sensitive. I think Lana might be slightly too shy, but in her character dev I'm sure we'll see her start to come out of her shell a little bit. All in all you do a phenomenal job of keeping all your NPCs in line. Keep up the good work. Who is your favorite NPC and why? Definitely Redwood. He's the perfect blend of hard-ass and compassionate. Who is your least favorite NPC and why? Not the biggest fan of Evan just yet, but Jacob hasn't really interacted with him yet so I don't have as accurate a portrayal of him as I probably should. What do you think about the darker parts I included in this chapter? (Hydreigon and Celebi) It keeps the story from being a happy-go-lucky high school dramedy. Can't really complain too much about that And showing the darker parts of the world is important, as those were what created the current system in the first place. Which Legendary do you think will befriend your character? And why? I'm of the opinion that whatever Jacob befriends will be something that values friendship. So maybe Jirachi or Mew. What do you expect to happen in Chapter 3: Winter Cup? I expect two of Jacob's Pokemon to evolve and for Jacob to do well in the tournament, as battling is pretty much all he manages to do well in. He even sacrifices his social life for it. If your character was approached instead of Slade; how would he / she react? I'm not sure what you mean here, but I assume you mean by RoG. Jacob would never buy into that; he sees Pokemon as his friends and family, not as tools. Is there anything else I can improve upon? Yes, but nothing that you should. I would say that I'd like you to post more often, but real life has to come first xD
  23. Dru walked at the front of the line next to Helze. The sorcerer was, after all, curious about the other Shattered Hills native in the group. "Helze, you call the Forest of Knives home, yes? That is a wild land, and an inhospitable one at that. Your father must be a talented ranger to have forged a living for his entire family there."
