[IC] Of Shadow and Flame: Beginnings
Jory replied to Chevaleresse's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Bark shrugged. "I don't really understand why you're all so up in arms over names. I'd rather die with a legacy than without," he noted. He then looked toward the newly initiated Dexter. "Kid, you're lucky you got to transform. At least now you have a fighting chance," he explained. "Humans are fragile, like little balloons filled with meat. One hit from a Beast and SPLAT!" he shouted, clapping his hands together. "They should at least be allowed to know what they're up against. Wouldn't you agree?" he asked the others around him. -
{Important Action} That first draw really messed me up bad, Arthur thought gloomily. I couldn't even beat this buffoon. At least we get to keep the new duel gazers, though, he noted as he tried to see the silver lining. Suddenly, what Arclight had said clicked. Already in a foul mood from embarrassing himself in front of Charlotte, Arthur practically screamed, "SHE'S NOT MY GIRLFRIEND!" at Arclight, fuming visibly as he struggled to control his temper.

Pokémon Academy: Ch 3: Winter Cup [IC]
Jory replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
{Jacob & Danielle} Jacob looked around, a smile creeping across his face as he saw the Sawbuck sanctuary teeming with life deep within the forest. "Wow..." he breathed, unable to find words for his appreciation of what he saw. The young man nodded to Arete and Spitfyre, who fluttered and ran off to join the Fire Bug and Avis by the Deerling. Jacob then saw the Sawsbuck who seemed to be eyeing them warily. He maintained eye contact with the Sawsbuck, slowly approaching it with a growing sense of curiosity. This is incredible, he thought to himself. Even on the Dragon field trip we didn't see anything quite like this. "Sawsbuck," he said in a level tone. "We're here to talk to you guys. We need to warn you about something," he calmly added.- 1255 replies

Pokémon Academy: Ch 3: Winter Cup [IC]
Jory replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
{Jacob & Danielle} Jacob looked around them, wondering when exactly all the Pokemon had begun springing up. It was quiet just a bit ago, he thought to himself. "We must be approaching the heart of the forest. No other reason there would be so many Pokemon here," he said to no one in particular. Spitfyre looked around, excited to see so many Pokemon. After all, the more Pokemon there were, the better chance he'd be able to get a quick practice match in before they had to fight Slade. However, the Charmeleon wasn't overly worried about Danielle's boyfriend. After all, Jacob had beaten him before. And knowing his Trainer, the young man was more than capable of doing it again. "Still, I don't see Sawsbuck. Arete, why don't you try communicating with some of the Pokemon.." he began before trailing off. A Buneary jumped out of the bushes and hopped happily toward the pair of teenagers. She hopped in small circles around Danielle and Jacob before stopping in front of them and pointing, unbeknownst to the trainers, toward Avis and the Deerling. "Hey!" Jacob said, surprised. "It's the Buneary from earlier! I think she's telling us where to find the Sawsbuck, Danielle." He knelt down to the Buneary's level and Arete fluttered down to the ground, greeting the small rabbit Pokemon. "Hey, Buneary, do you want us to folow you?" he asked. "Bun bun!" the Buneary replied happily, nodding her head vigorously. She then grabbed the Togetic by the hand and began hopping toward their destination. "Tic! Toge-tic~!" Arete sang gleefully, glad to be finally on her way to meet Sawsbuck. Jacob laughed and beckoned to the rest of the group. "Come on! Only a little more to go!" he encouraged them, following the Buneary through the forest toward Avis and the Deerling.- 1255 replies

Jacob's backstory is pretty irrelevant to the scheme of the RP. His uncle is just about the only person in the family who has any idea of what it means to be a Trainer. His parents are professionals in the business world, so I see no reason to really give them too much attention.

Pokémon Academy: Ch 3: Winter Cup [IC]
Jory replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
{Danielle & Jacob} "Ugh... No thanks," Jacob said, a semi-disgusted tone entering his voice. "I don't even like to talk much about what Kristen and I have going on, much less what anyone else does. So I think I'll pass on the juicy details," he elaborated, not even noticing that Danielle was joking. "I wonder where this Sawsbuck is, anyway. We've been walking for quite awhile now," he said, a little mystified at how deep the forest on the Academy grounds was. I can't believe it's been a whole semester and this is my first time in here, he thought to himself as the pair made their way through the thickly wooded area.- 1255 replies

{Important Action} Arthur gasped audibly as the new dueling field appeared in front of his eyes. "Wow..." he breathed, totally taken aback by the huge improvement in technology. "Those two sure missed out on something cool..." he said to no one in particular. He then shook his head, clearing his thoughts for the upcoming duel. "Let's get this show on the road, Arclight!"

{Conclave} Jory moved down the stairs rather quickly for someone encumbered as he was. Shredder protected his Trainer as the two made their way down behind Seth and Giga, grateful that reinforcements had finally arrived.

{Jacob & Danielle} Jacob chuckled lightly, then whistled softly and tapped his shouler. Arete fluttered back to her Trainer and came to rest on his shoulder, obviously having a good time during their nature-filled outing. The young man continued deeper into the forest, leading Danielle along with him. "So how're things with Slade?" he asked curiously, having not really seen the two together much often recently.- 1255 replies

Official Super Smash Bros. Thread for Wii U and 3DS
Jory replied to Maelstrom's topic in Gaming General
I was playing some Sm4sh for 3DS tonight and I got matched against this guy who only played Shulk. I beat him with Wii Fit then switched to Captain Falcon. He beat my Cap (with Shulk- not an accomplishment) and my Zelda (again- not an accomplishment since all of Shulk's smashes are better versions of Zelda's). Then I switched to Samus, who's become my main over the past couple of months. I trashed him neatly 6 times in a row. Mfw I 2-0'd him and only took 30%: -
You will be able to do more than skim through it if you really want. There'll be a whole thread of just battle stuff just for you Not really just for you but if you want feel free to read all of the posts. The highlight reel of the battle is meant to serve the same purpose in the IC. We don't want another 6 month tournament.
-
I agree. But lately we've been running into problems where the last people to battle end up waiting weeks between important posts, which is kind of unacceptable when we're trying to move to the end of Chapter 3.
-
Basically, imagine the matchups being posted as a starting gun. 1) At that moment EVERYONE can post in the Battles thread. Expect it to be a "clusterfuck" (Dobby's words). 2) The 24 hour period only applies to the IC thread. However, you should be done with your battle by the time your recap is up. That's why the first battle is conducted normally. It should act as a barometer for how far along you guys should all be in your battles. 3) Yes, all future tournaments will be conducted in this manner provided it runs as smoothly as I anticipate. 4) Specifically to Commander, I really like your thought on the PM matter. However, there's only one problem: RIP Inbox. The Battle thread serves an identical function, but allows us to keep it all in one place. And that post limit is an ideal. If people are rapid-fire posting for the first 2 days, then the number of posts shouldn't really matter. It's more an issue of "I don't want to wait 3 weeks for those two to finish battling". Just keep your battles to a reasonable IRL timeframe. 5) At Faust's behest, I'm going to post an example. Chim: MATCHUPS ARE AS FOLLOWS Jory vs. Chim Dobby vs. Faust Your Mom vs. Cthulu Jory and Chim's battle begins in the IC thread using traditional format. Ideally this will take under a week. By the time the first battle is done, all other battles should also be done or wrapping up in the Battle thread. After their battle is done, the next will be called. Dobby and Faust's characters report to the Arena, then they do not post again in the IC for 24 hours. 24 hours later (or whenever a host is next available), a recap post is made and the next battle is called. Dobby and Faust exit the Arena. Your Mom and Cthulu report to the Arena. Rinse and repeat for all subsequent battles.

Alrighty guys, your super totalitarian regime beloved co-hosting pair and our beloved Supreme Overlord Chimchain (may his reign be blessed with prosperity) have come up with a way to speed things along a little bit as far as tournament battles go. I know that I as a participant have been getting a little antsy because of how long it's been taking, so starting Day 2 of the tourney we're going to be implementing a system that should hopefully help us streamline the process a little bit. Essentially, the biggest problem we've been having is that the Arena only has one field (pshh nice going Chim). The way we've developed to combat this is simple. We're going to be opening up an "Queued-Up Battles" thread in addition to the normal IC threads for each chapter. The tournament specifically will work as follows: Each battling pair, whether it be PC vs. PC or PC vs. NPC, will begin posting in the QUB thread once the match-ups are announced by Chim. To make our jobs a little easier, please title each of these posts with {A bracketed, bolded headline with both your character's name and his/her/xyr opponent's}. During this time period, you guys will still be posting non-battle related things in the IC thread (such as eating, investigation, conversation, shipping, card-playing, porn-watching, and movement). The most important part is coming next, so I'm gonna make it big and red and bold so that when someone inevitably fucks up I get to ream them out for it. WHEN YOUR CHARACTER'S BATTLE IS CALLED IN THE IC THREAD, YOU MUST MAKE A POST IN WHICH YOU REPORT TO THE ARENA AND TAKE THE FIELD. AFTER THIS POST, YOU MAY NOT POST AGAIN FOR 24 HOURS. This will help us avoid confusion and avoid conflicts in the timeline of the RP. During this 24 hour period, one of the co-hosts (probably me) will type up a recap post for the entire battle that gives a shortened version complete with highlights and commentary from whoever is in the booth at that time. Now, I know what you're thinking: What about the first battle? Well, the fun part is that whoever's battle is called first will take the spotlight in the IC thread. This will give the other battles enough time to finish before we start the recap process. Now, for the recap of the Recap Strategy: 1) Battle Thread and IC Thread are active simultaneously. Battles in Battle Thread, IC action in IC thread. 2) All battles occur simultaneously in the Battle Thread. This has nothing to do with the timeline of the IC thread, so post whenever you can and make sure it has a title. 3) Once your battle is called, have your character report to the field. Then you may not post for 24 hours. 4) After the 24 hours has elapsed, a recap post will appear for your battle. You may then resume normal IC action. 5) The first battle called for each tourney stage will occur in the IC thread. Presumably this applies to the Finals as well. To clarify a good point that Dobby brought up, this in no way affects friendly battles. Feel free to use the IC thread for those, as the likelihood that they will hold up the RP is slim to none. If you have any questions, please please please post them below in the OOC thread so that everyone can see them, as if you have that question it is likely others do too. Also, Chim and Dobby are poopy nerds <3

Also, guys, make sure you pay attention to the instructions Tomas posts (like WAIT UNTIL TACOS MAKES A POST) because invariably those are important. And if you have instructions like that, make sure you actually read the post you had to wait for and understand it before posting again. Sorry for minimodding I'll just go back to my hole now kbye

{Conclave} Jory's face grew slightly red as he cleared his throat in an attempt to get another opportunity to speak. "I think I've done enough here. Unless we really need to beat these Acolytes down any more than they've already been, I can carry her," he said curtly. Shredder nodded to his Trainer, keeping the path through the Acolytes open as the squad's enemies struggled to regain their feet. The veteran took off back into the room, tapping Nemir on the shoulder. "She's poisoned. We should have thought of this earlier, but Heal Pulse doesn't heal status ailments. We've got to get her to the Pokemon Center or back to HQ so that she can be properly treated." He then pushed past Vis and picked Carissa up gently, cradling her in his arms as he made his way back toward the stairs. He looked at Adam, Seth, and Jon, then cocked his head toward the open pathway. "Let's get moving before they regain their senses."

Pokémon Academy: Ch 3: Winter Cup [IC]

{Jacob & Danielle} Arete flew up and greeted Avis happily with a few "Tic tic! Togetics!" before fluttering back down to Danielle, flying in lazy circles around her Trainer's friend's head. Jacob looked up at the Murkrow, smiling as the familiar black Pokemon returned to her Trainer. Spitfyre snorted derisively toward Zared, agreeing with the Mawile about their lack of participation in the battle. Despite his earlier tournament battle and subsequent victory, the Charmeleon was eager to enter the Arena once again. After all, how else was he going to get stronger aside from battling and training? "Avis, did you find anything out about the Sawsbuck?" the young man asked the Murkrow directly. Hopefully we'll be able to find that thing soon. It's getting late, he thought, looking down at the PokeGear on his wrist and checking the time. "Danielle, let's head deeper into the forest. I doubt that Sawsbuck would be so far out, especially given the fact that it's supposed to be the Guardian of the forest."- 1255 replies

{Jacob & Danielle- A new challenger approaches!} Jacob sighed. "I don't know. Seviper don't tend to be overly-" he began before a loud rustling could be heard in the underbrush to the pair's left, followed by a loud squeak. Jacob turned to face the bushes, Spitfyre and Arete taking up battle positions on either side of the Trainer. A Buneary hopped quickly out of the bushes and made a beeline for Danielle, hiding behind the Coordinator's legs and cowering in fear. Jacob looked a bit confused before another loud rustle was heard, followed by an agitated hissing noise. A Seviper sprang out of the bushes, its long body uncoiled as it sailed through the air toward Danielle with its fangs bared. "Arete, intercept it!" Jacob shouted. The Togetic concentrated and fired a rainbow-hued beam from its mouth, slamming the Seviper backward to the ground before it could reach Danielle and the scared Buneary. "Spitfyre, stay put!" he commanded. The Charmeleon nodded, understanding the importance of this trial for Arete. The Seviper recovered and hissed angrily at Jacob and his Pokemon. How dare they prevent the hungry Poison-type from consuming her meal! It opened its mouth wide and fired a stream of purple goo at Arete. "Quickly, get higher up and use another Extrasensory!" the Trainer ordered. Arete fluttered upward, narrowly avoiding the Venoshock attack. The goo began burning the grass where it had landed, smoke rising from the ground as it corroded the grass into nothingness. Meanwhile, Arete fired another Extrasensory at the Seviper. The snake wised up this time and retreated into the bushes and out of the way of the attack. "Don't let your guard down," Jacob warned. "It's still out there. Sevipers are dangerous because they never give up on a hunt." True to the young Trainer's word, the Seviper leapt out of a nearby tree, its bladed tail glowing purple in a vicious downward swing at the Togetic. The small Fairy-type barely avoided the hit, but as the Seviper spun through the air its mouth opened wide and it flicked its tongue out, using Lick on the Togetic. Arete recoiled, horrified at the disgusting feeling of the serpent's forked tongue. "Don't let up, Arete!" Jacob said. "Use Encore!" The Togetic's eyes began to glow as she started clapping, making direct eye contact with the Seviper. Suddenly, the Seviper's eyes glowed the same hue as Arete's and it began to slither forward, its tongue darting out of its mouth repeatedly. "Perfect! Another Extrasensory, while it's trapped!" The Togetic complied, firing another rainbow beam at the Poison-type. It was a direct hit, sending Arete's opponent rolling backward. The Seviper shook her head, clearing it of the Encore trance. She began moving forward once more, breathing heavily. She was clearly worn down by the repeated super-effective attacks from a stronger Pokemon and wouldn't last much longer. Jacob unclipped a Great Ball from his belt, lobbing it toward the Seviper as the serpent lunged forth again. The serpent disappeared in a flash of light and the Great Ball hit the ground, shaking violently as the Seviper struggled to escape from the capsule. Gotcha, Jacob thought confidently. However, the Ball shattered outward and the Seviper materialize directly in front of Arete, hitting her hard with a Poison Tail. The Fairy-type was sent flying backward and skidded along the ground. She winced noticeably as she got up. A critical hit!, Jacob thought, groaning. "Arete, incapacitate it! Use Dazzling Gleam!" The Togetic concentrated hard. Several bright pink orbs of light were fired from Arete's body and hit the Seviper dead-on in the face. The Poison-type began to wobble, temporarily blinded. The Trainer threw another Great Ball and the Seviper disappeared inside once again. After several rather unnerving shakes, the button in the middle of the Ball flashed red. "Yes!" Jacob shouted triumphantly, running over to pick up the Great Ball. Arete quickly flew over to her Trainer, hugging the back of his head tightly and crying out joyfully. Jacob turned to Danielle and the Buneary. "Did you see that?" he asked, grabbing Arete and holding her in front of him. "You did so awesome!" he said, praising the Togetic. The Fairy-type stood in his hands and glowed white, then returned to normal. Her bruises and scrapes from the vicious attack were gone and she looked refreshed. The Buneary hopped around happily, glad that it was no longer going to become lunch for a mean old Seviper. She looked up at Danielle and nodded her thanks before bounding off into the underbrush to go do whatever it is Pokemon do when people aren't watching them. Jacob grinned at the Great Ball in his hand and smiled at Danielle. "So now that that's taken care of and we've helped a cute little Buneary, let's go looking for that Sawsbuck you mentioned."- 1255 replies
