Cass followed after Belros and Idei, ready with his guitar. If either of them croaked for some silly reason or another, then that'd be an idiocy he wouldn't agree to stand for.

Especially not after being so lovingly carried to safety by Mr. Captain.

 

Move to C18, use 'Play' on Bel and Idei

Not a moment later, Idei swivels Kite on his hooves, bending down to pull Cass onto the stallion's back as he does so. This kind of guerrilla fighting . . . a hint of a smile crosses his face; it feels like home.

 

"Who knew this would become a habit."

Belos followed behind the bowman, staying out there will only cause more trouble. "Well, it's been working. Why fix whats not broken?" Belros responded to Idei before helping Cass off the horse and onto the ground.  "Lets just make sure we regroup ASAP."

 

Move to D14, take Cass then Drop him at C14

So much happens all at once that it's difficult to keep track of everything around him. Enemies come further down the corridor — the stench of plated iron and blood — and he pivots Kite around, tries to warn Belros of the incoming attack, only to feel himself robbed of voice as he's too late. No! The spy collapses to the scarlet-slick stones beneath him. Is he . . . ?

 

Then, a cracking boom of thunder magic detonating nearby, and Kite rears with a shrill neigh. With a cry of alarm, Idei has to hold on as tight as he can to avoid being thrown from the saddle. Cass! He's not sure if he spoke that or just thought it.

 

Before he knows it, more are upon them. Kite's hooves touch ground again, slip on the smooth stone. He turns, seeing Helena, face ashen with pain, fire off another Meteor spell, and the Captain's sword swing harmlessly by a mage's robes. With a lurch, it hits him: this is it.

 

He can't win against these odds. They can't win against these odds. His fingers find the feathers of another arrow, draw it from the quiver mechanically even as his heart lodges itself in his throat. It feels unreal, but he'll keep shooting. He'll keep shooting until they're overwhelmed. Until it's all over.

After all the mooks rolled in, Belros couldn't help but feel light headed. Then after being attacked by the first knight he knew what was going on. Some troubadour had been casting a sleep spell on him and it's been working. Before he could think of a way to stop it, it was too late. He's eye lids felt heavy, it was a struggle to keep them half open. Before he knew it everything faded to black and he was sound asleep on the floor.

Clarisse braced for the attack - it was going to hurt like a bitch, she was sure, she wasn't so good against magic. That prediction came true, it hurt, but it was also a lot more than that. Clarisse was pissed. Now this would be normal usually, but Clarisse's a pretty chill sort of woman. Nonono, this was not natural anger at being attacked - this was a haze of rage. She stumbled from the attack - and then went and smacked whoever the hell looked at her after it. Unfortunately it happened to be Emilee rather than someone on the other side. Sooooo... a literal hammer, and as she went down like a sack of potatoes the effect wore off.

The thunder struck Cass and he raised his hands up to guard himself. "Akh-" Taking a step back from the initial shock, smell of burning flesh pulsated through his nose, pain settling in mere moments later, thrudging behind the swifter sensation, and a voice. A voice shouted his name.

The situation had escalated quite quickly. So quickly Cass hadn't even noticed until the chaos settled in. They were completely and utterly surrounded. Sure, most of their enemies there were of his kind, but that only meant they could also revitalize the others. He turned to Idei.

 

"Idei, relax, man!" Cass grunted through his teeth. He could see both Idei and his steed were in a state of disarray. If it went like that, there was no way any of them were getting anywhere. Belros fell victim to a charm... "Curses." Spitting to the side, Cass's grip tightened on his guitar as he looked up at Idei, placing a hand up to Kite to try and calm both of them down.

The knight falls, unbelievably, arrows protruding from where he'd somehow managed to strike true. He stares like he can't even believe it. Everything feels slow and far away, but he knows it's not. He knows he has to keep fighting. Any moment could be his last — a lance to his back, a stray arrow —

 

His own name catches his attention, and he turns to see something red moving around to behind him. Cass? Relax, man! He sees the places where the magic had struck, where pale burns are already forming. He stares at them. It's another kind of electricity — familiar; Cass' guitar — that brings him back to focus a little. The sounds come back, and he blinks hard. The voices are close by again, no longer like he's witnessing everything from underwater. 

 

Think straight. 

Right. Cass is right. He needs to think straight. What comes next? They have to fight their way out, to the last man.

Sensing his rider's mounting distress, Kite finally panics. With a violent toss of his head, he screams, rearing and kicking out at anyone nearby. Only years of horsemanship keep Idei on his back, and he has to wrestle as the stallion bucks and thrashes beneath him. "Stop! Damn horse — " He needs to get away from here. The enclosed space; the claustrophobia of bodies and walls — they'll both go mad if this keeps up.

 

The others! The others of the Guard; they'd been with them! He looks quickly to the far corridor, then turns to Cass, reaching out a hand while trying to steady Kite with the other. "Cass!" he calls out over the chaos. "Come, we'll get the others for help!"

 

It's not abandonment. He'll come back. He'll come back for them; he will.

"..." Cass could see the fear in the horseman's eyes. None of them were ready for this trap nor for this situation to develop like this. The rest of their troops were already far off, what little they themselves could do was wait for help, yet he feared they could never endure the assault that was about to hit them. Giving the other a serious look, an expectant glance towards the outstreched arm and a quiver in his eye.

Cass pushed Idei's hand away. As much as he wanted to escape together with the rider, he didn't feel it right. "Rescue..." Cass's eyes drifted to Belros. He was knocked down to the floor. The man could feel his teeth starting to grind against one another. Would Belros even want to be rescued in a situation like this? The spy was quite fervent in his attempt to stop everyone else from dying, including Cass himself. Then if he was awake, he'd definitely want Cass and the others to move.

 

"...all right, but we'll be coming right for them. I couldn't leave this idiot behind even if I wanted to." The man gestured towards Belros then towards Helena and Madante. "You two don't die either, we'll get help!" He yelled out to them.

From his position of relative safety, Darius got to see everything. The group that split up is now starting to be surrounded by hostiles. He got to see Belros fall to the ground, sleeping as well as the others take a barrage of attacks, both physical and magical. And then, to cap it off, he turns just in time to see Clarisse strike Emilee down with a single strike. He can see that she was in a berserk rage, but that still ends up leaving him angry. Angry at the enemy for causing so much damage, and at himself that he didn't do anything to stop the group splitting.

 

"Ergh...dammit...they're being overwhelmed! We need to get there and bail them out!" Darius calls out to his allies near him. He knows that they won't reach them in time to stop another volley of attacks, but they can then push the enemies back and start reviving everyone in need of it.

"Agreeing to that fool's plan was a mistake...should've made him come with us," Cade muttered beneath her breath, just before the Shaman had been so kind as to alert them of the carnage she could she already see and hear through the doorway. He was definitely right though, if they didn't abandon this front and head back immediately, they'd be leaving this place several folks short... if they left it at all.

 

and of course, shit only got worse. Someone else had gone on a spell-induced rampage- and bludgeoned the cleric to the point where Cade was almost certain her brains were a scrambled mess afterwards... lovely. Just lovely.

 

But now was not the time to lament. Not the time for any of them to panic. If they were going to live, someone had to take charge.

Cade looked the wound over, trying to retreive her Vulnerary with a still trembling, clumsy grasp before she sighed in frustration, snatched up the vial with the hand that was still worth a damn, and pried the stopper off with her teeth. Yes, up close it was even worse than she'd thought... for a moment she considered it might be nessacary to use the same spell she had on Karik, but even as she began to prepare it, her fathers words rang through her mind....

hmmmm... on second thought... she suppresed the magic before it could even manifest itself, the soft white light in her gimped hand fading. Both of Karik's  wounds  were pretty near the heart and all. Yeh, it's still alot of blood she's lossing, but... I'm uh... sure she'll be just fine with just the Vuln, in comparison... maybe... hopefully... hell, so long as she can stand and use that staff, it'll be enough.

Emilee was focused on the enemies ahead, trying to stay out of their range. As long as she could doge the magical attacks she would be fine, Clarisse would protect her from melee attack so she didn't need to look at her immediate surr-

The next time Emilee opened her eyes she was looking at Cade. She made an attempt at getting and grimaced. "Ow... Cade... Everything hurts..." But even having said this with hoarse voice, she tried again. This time she leaned on her staff and breathed heavily. "Thank you for your help, I'll do my job now. We're going to make it out of this alive, all of us."

Beau snorted as if to say "Damn... these idjits really got themselves into a pickle... You're lucky l like you girlie..."of course he couldn't say anything he was but a Pegasus. Rayne on the other hand was just getting more and more overwhelmed by the situation at hand. She wasn't really sure how much more of this she could take but she had to keep it together. She had to help them all get out of this accursed place. She swallowed trying to center herself and destroy that sick feeling in her stomach.

She noticed that Clarisse wasn't moving herself. "Clarisse! What are you doing we need to fall back?!" she shouted. The Enemies were closing in and fast. Rayne wasn't sure Clarisse would be able to get away from them on her own. She tapped Beau twice. He lifted his head and stood alert. He looked over to Clarisse and knew what she wanted him to do already. He snorted in response.

Rayne swiftly put Beau into action flying over to the girl as fast as he could manage. Rayne scooped her up, much easier this time as she wasn't lying on the ground, and pulled her into a sitting position in front of her. "Hi Clarisse~ Me and Beau are escorting you out of here. Well... if that's okay with you l suppose."

It isn't quite the same.

 

There's no blinding sand cutting at his face, clotting his mouth. There's no screaming wind. Just the sounds of battle, of hoof beats sharp and loud on a flat, hard surface, not at all like the softened thuds across the dry steppe.

 

It all feels very unnatural — the setting, the situation. A warrior never runs away from his enemy unless it's a tactical move. Is this a tactical move, or is he leaving the others to die?

 

Kite moves, largely unguided, and now as the commotion fades down the hallway behind him and he's no longer so closed in, his ears prick forward again, eyes losing some of their wild panic. He tosses his head, neighing loudly as he rounds the corner beyond the archway where the other half of their team is rushing to meet them, seemingly having already realized that something is going wrong.
