  1. we actually thought we fixed that. essentials sucks.
  2. hey everyone! so we know that y'all out there (and, frankly, us in here) have been having a rough time lately due to the massive social upheaval brought on by the corona virus. and we thought we'd do a little something that could help y'all get through it. a while back, we mentioned that we made a randomizer for e19. we've decided to turn it into a patch and release it now! you can grab it here! To Install: Unzip the patch and drop the files into the data folder of your game folder. You'll have to overwrite the files that are currently there. and that's it! just talk to the NPC in the starter room to turn the randomizer on. this way, you can still play the game normally on the same installation. Hope you all enjoy! The Randomizer has been updated for version 18.4! Get the new patch here instead: https://rebornevo.com/downloads/RebornRandomizer18.4.zip (also, for all intents and purposes, issues with the randomizer are considered "quirks" for funsies)
  3. omg you're right i actually did not realize i did that this is so much more boring now they won't, unfortunately- it's not- the shift is the same for all of them
  4. hey. how are y'all doing out there? like it kinda feels like stuff is falling apart in general a bit harder than it usually does. i'm still kind of adjusting to the new world of videochatting everything all the time. so ame and i, independently of each other, had an idea the other day. everyone's probably looking for something to do at home.... and we have a randomizer.... why not put it out there? so hi guys, we have a randomizer. it's in testing right now. ame and i are going to do a test stream tomorrow (3p MDT, 12 hours from now) on twitch. come watch! if everything goes well, we'll pretty much put it out that night. this randomizer is in a patch! you just take your freshest e18.2 (or maybe an earlier release? i don't actually know if those work or not) and you slap in those hot new patch files. then: bam, you have a randomizer! technically he's a guy in the starter room that you talk to. but there's a randomizer! hope y'all have fun! anyway. this is still also a dev blog, and i do like explaining things, so here's how it works. *ahem so, first of all, right now the randomizer only affects pokemon and moves, and they affect each on a 1 to 1 basis: if mudkip is randomized to mewtwo, mudkip is always mewtwo. the same thing goes for moves. to make this work, the randomizer guy pops out three numbers. one is the base number, and two are the modifiers. the base number is what determines where you start; the modifiers determine the order of the mons/moves that come after that. for example, if i get 5 as a base and 2 as a modifier, then bulbasaur would become charmeleon, ivysaur would become squirtle, venusaur would become blastoise, and so on. when the total hits 805, the counter loops back around. moves basically work the same way. and that's, uh, basically it. we just scatter that formula throughout the code. cry every time it breaks something. the usual! you can grab the patch here:
  5. oh, you guys are still here. popplio's nose is so boopable. how can you not like that? hydrei, with zero competition. gardevoir is first, meloetta is second, and there's like a 20-way tie for third. melo is mythical, right? better question- what legendaries do i actually even like? there's, like, five. maybe six. top two would probably be between articuno and lunala. zeraora is in dead last. i like the new ones- and, in fact, i think they should go further. why does steel resist ice? ever seen titanic? oh gosh. i really try to avoid watching stupid things. other than, like, the intentionally stupid ones. there are some pretty bad episodes of doctor who, but that's probably it. haha. uh. that's a good question. maybe on the side. i don't think i'd really want to do it in the same capacity as i'm doing reborn, but i wouldn't mind, like, generally helping other fangames with minor stuff. short answer: no the condensed long answer would be that, ultimately, the problems with being lgbtq aren't inherent to being lgbtq- they're problems that emerge from people who don't understand and do not try to. i don't think questions like this would exist if it wasn't for other people. you are who are, and you like who you like. oh boy. so, nothing good. i could really go on about this (hi, poli sci major), but i don't think that there's much point in that since "nothing good" establishes that i have a position and i'm sure everyone already knows what that means. i don't think i've ever gotten that mad at a game. usually when i get annoyed or frustrated with something, i take a break and come back to it later. this happens pretty frequently with harder fire emblem difficulties. i've definitely been doing a lot of teambuilding lately. i think it's fun when you're working on a team and you realize that you have this combination that works really well together. i did back in the day, and lately i've been thinking that maybe i should get back into that since the mobile game ecosystem is so thoroughly lacking. i tend to prefer complex stories. crack videos? i like a good shitpost, tbh, but i feel like there aren't very many that i'd consider 'good'. so i don't write dialogue- that's all ame. i feel like i generally have a difficult time writing character dialogue because i end up just sounding like me some more. heather frustrates me a little, but i don't really think i'd say i find anyone particularly stupid.
  6. i think you missed a question. *coughs What led you to Pokemon Reborn? some time ago (5-ish years) there was a polygon article about "pokemon fangames that you should play". reborn was on that list! but so were snakewood and light platinum. i actually played those first. i finished neither of them, but i was starved for new content enough that I kept going back to the list and tried out reborn. and dog it was fuckin great (i feel like i should add that i didn't actually get involved in the community until, like, 3-4 years after that, but that's not too pertinent to the question) What do you think about the battle system in the game? i got my ass kicked and it was the most fun i've had playing pokemon. prior to my first playthrough, the most difficult experience i had was with some of the fakemon bosses in snakewood. i'd always been the "solo the game with your starter" type of player, and this was the first game to actually make that a non-viable play style. i actually had to, like, research pokemon. and make strategies for them. it was such a strange new experience. the field effects added an extra layer to the battling that i also appreciated. What do you think about the stories/narrative in the game? dude. so good. i liked that this was a game with actual stakes. team meteor isn't trying to do something silly like make it sunny all the time (hi ruby was my first game)- they are actually out here destroying things and killing people and being an actual threat. i get that people seem to really feel that the game is edgy, but, like, i don't really agree? if you're comparing it to other pokemon games then, yeah, sure, it's certainly darker- but the other games are for little kids. this doesn't even approach GoT levels of violence, and people aren't out here calling it edgy. i also appreciated that there weren't a lot of throwaway content. the npcs in the city were actually affected by the in-game events, which really helped contribute to the more serious tone. the characters had a lot of substance to them. both the characters and the story were much more complex than in the canon games. it definitely feels more real, despite the inherently non-reality of pokemon. In particular, what do you think about the queer characters in the game, like Cain and Adrienn? and also amy and titania i approve adrienn was the first interaction with anything non-binary i'd ever had. i was basically just like "oh, okay, that's a thing. cool." the queer characters definitely add flavor to the game that it would lack otherwise (and, similarly, is the kind of flavor that other games tend to lack) and i think it helps contribute to what makes reborn unique among even other major game series. i almost feel like i should answer this one twice.................................. it's also worth including that most (if not all) of the dev team is lgbtq (which also includes me now hi) and i'm sure that contributes to the quality of the game.
  7. gosh my solution was really inefficient tho
  8. they both have patreons! you can find jan's here: https://www.patreon.com/Janichroma/posts and ame's here: https://www.patreon.com/amethystvl
  9. depends on how much i want ame to commit die
  10. who's ready for a five year testing period
  11. i'm not really planning to change teams a whole lot; partially because it preserves a kind of in-game "canon", partially because rebuilding teams would be a huge amount of extra work, and partially because y'all are out there doing your thing and i don't want to encroach on that. also, new chart update!
  12. hard maybe for late game, probably yes for postgame. battle tower's gotta have some kind of prizes.
