  1. Poncio sits up, or attempts to. ". . .Cu-acggk" His voice starts up raspily, throat dry, and he clears his throat noisily. "Ahck, well, I'm not dead, stupendous! I suppose it was never really in the question that I'd die in such ignominious a way, I the great Poncio Romero! But I can't celebrate just yet, let me see. . .have those conniving men kept their promise? The time may come when they regret it if they did not!" The man attempts to reach for his face, to feel whether these questionably moral people had managed to preserve his visage.
  2. Well here's a character, feel free to tell me what I need to change to have it be more in line with the world that everyone's coming from.
  3. "I'm not sure how good an idea splitting up is. That. . . did not lead to good things last time my group did that. But I don't have anything better to suggest myself, given our current time crunch." This new person, Cicivexa? was at least producing ideas and trying to get things moving. That wasn't a bad thing. "I do think, if we are splitting up, that something needs to be addressed. We need a meeting place, and a time to meet up again. Comms would be idea, and while I've got some inbuilt into my suit. . .body? I think? That doesn't help for anyone else though. . ."
  4. Harry's expression sank, however his tone of voice seemed much the same. "Well, not surprising. I'd hoped, but those are precisely the problems which were encountered in the story that reminded me. I suppose it's a little too much to ask." "However, if we are ever faced with an intractible problem, something like what happened to Soma that needs a solution as soon as possible, would you be capable of at least trying? For a brief burst only if it becomes absolutely necessary." "But, I've gotta ask! Does manipulating emotions for long periods also have the same downsides?"
  5. "There was a book I once read, part of it included a man who could manipulate emotions. The specifics don't matter, and it has little scientific value. But it got me thinking. This man, the Mule, could manipulate emotions of course, but he could do one more thing. There is in the human brain--I don't know if a parallel exists in ethereals-- a real phenomenon of insight. We see a problem, then, occasionally after banging our head against a wall, come to solution through seemingly no direct line of logic. It's largely due to subconscious processing and reorganization of the information. This insight moment is actually recognizable from brain state, and it's able to be induced, or something similar at least, by certain drugs." He paused, hearkening back in his mind to where he'd heard these things. It hadn't been his primary focus of study, but he knew the basics. "They're mostly not the nicest things, nor do I have access to them. However, there is perhaps a chance that maybe you could force a brain into a continuous state of insight, a state where connections and solutions become obvious in a continuous string of Eureka moments. It might not be possible I know. Emotions and insight occur in different regions of the brain. But, if you can effect the physical state, you might be able to trigger this, and the uses for something like that might be unending." He stared at the Ethereal, hope and eagerness openly displayed.
  6. "Ah go to hell, you know what I meant. Will you make a camera drone. There, you'd make your schoolteachers proud. Now, no, I don't think it needs dimensional streaming, just needs to interface and upload with our bus, I'm sure you can figure that out. But we've got the bus that can do dimensional stuff, so if you ever want to learn, there's probably stuff you could take a look at." It might be unindentifiable what with being tinker tech, but who knew, maybe it would work for Alan. "Thanks though, useful. Now I've gotta go for a moment, so don't any of you run with scissors or shoot yourself in the foot or anything before I come back, alright?" With that, Harry followed Proditor out of the room in a rather more grounded manner than the alien. When they were suitably isolated, the doctor stopped walking, and leaned up against a wall. "So, Proddy. I've been thinking, that dangerous pasttime, and I came across an idea. You've got psionic abilities, which let you read thoughts, lift shit, talk in minds, all that fun stuff. I don't know if I've asked, but can you control minds? Specifically, can you control emotions? If you can physically effect peoples brains, you should be able to manipulate production of neurotransmitters and specific impulses in the amygdala and hypocampus. . ." He paused here face scrunched in a frown. Was the emotions part really necessary to what he was interested? No, not precisely. But it would give insight on the Ethereal's ability to precisely manipulate the physical state of someones brain, perhaps.
  7. Liliya entered the apartment, because why the hell would she not have? "Alright, so I don't know the fine details of your stuff Halley--ain't making any judgements till I have a full story from someone not the cause--but can I makea request everyone? Could we, maybe, like tell our plans among the group before executing them whenever possible?" "Oh, actually! Solomon, Ms?, could we get comms or something to stay in contact?"
  8. Harry waited patiently as the armored man left the room, then said thoughtfully, "You know, this isn't the first place we've been. A lot of you showed up here, but the group as a whole, including others besides me and Proddy, we've been elsewhere. In another world some guys actually asked for footage of our adventures in exchange for some pretty great toys, like a dimension hopping bus. I'm kinda leaning on them for. . .something else right now when I go back." "Anyway, enough rambling. I want to know if you can make camera drones, Alan. To film our work, and then pass along the footage to Uber and Leet. With successes like these, we bolster our image in worlds where maybe it isn't so great, and get useful stuff in exchange. The guys wanted uncut footage, but I figure if we're using our own drones to give extra footage, they damn well can't complain." "God damn, there's a lot I need to do before we're inevitably poofed off to a different world. I. . . need to talk to you for a bit Proddy in a moment." He'd need to head down to the medbay after that. Both to pick up some supplies, and some intel, but also to drop off something of his own.
  9. "How do you judge that? And could you do the same for the rest of us, determining where we'd likely be aligned if we are at all? It may be useful in determining whether we should choose a different stone." He paused a moment, pondering the next question before asking, "Could any of the other stones make something which could hold in a bubble of air?"
  10. "Does the cannon count as more than one? Because I think we did pretty nice on that front. Mostly thanks to Alan really." Harry patted the plasma rifle he held. "Got a little use out of this guy too, and it works pretty nice." "Teleporter would be the Assassin, right? Or do you mean the thing at the end?"
  11. Harry will attempt to find those in need of medical attention that have not been treated by Database. Following that, Harry'd find a seat for himself. "Well, we did it. Fun times, gonna need to get some more of that C4A. How'd it go for you all?" He hadn't been watching much behind him, paying attention only to the things over comms that might indicate a neccessity of retreat, or the presence of injured close enough to him that he could help.
  12. "I'm pretty sure we don't do terrorism. We didn't the last place we were at. . . I have no idea what happened here before anyway." Liliya continued to eye up the new arrival, curiosity about the touching thing ever present. It might be worth trying to get a prediction thing going, but that would require her to fully commit to touching the woman, and then pulling back when she saw things would go poorly. There was always the faint possibility of certain effects that she'd only see the dangers of after they'd already been planted, like poisons. "But yeah, Solomon, maybe we should know about what's been going on last time you were here?"
  13. "Well that looks highly dangerous. Try not to get hit by that." After stating the obvious, Edmond opens fire again. Attack with Long Arm of the Law rifle shooting the Silver Scorpion, dealing 2d8+INT damage, enemy dodge reduced by 10% (if they have a 20% dodge chance, make it 10%). 2 points global damage reduction, 4 points physical damage reduction.
  14. Harry hummed as he finished his treatment, any and all swelling reduced, bleeding stopped, and skin quietly melding back together. "You're gonna want to put some ice on that later, the swelling's only going to stay down for a couple hours. Don't pick at the scabs for like. . . a day, let's say, and make sure you drink enough fluids. If you've got any problems, just gimme a call. If I'm gone? Just suck it up or something. You'll be fine." "Now you should be set. One stamp for your blunt force injury card, well on your way to your complimentary spine reinforcement surgery!" Harry quit his babbling, hopped up, starting a little as he saw the avatar. "Oh--uh, hey, long time no see." He muttered, then turned and began to run. Retreat to B6.
  15. "You'll see all sorts. Medieval, futuristic, middle, as well as varying competences with different magics and weirder stuff. But also, you're not gonna really be able to tell perfectly about the places since we kinda pick up stuff from different places to use." Liliya flipped out her switchblade as an example, gesturing to the licking flames that wreathed the blade. "I couldn't have added the fire or anything, but I had Mar help, so now I've got some pretty sweet permanent flames here."
  16. Attack with Long Arm of the Law rifle shooting the Silver Scorpion, dealing 2d8+INT damage, enemy dodge reduced by 10% (if they have a 20% dodge chance, make it 10%). 2 points global damage reduction, 4 points physical damage reduction.
  17. "If she ain't from around here, and doesn't know how she got here, she's probably part of this. Seems to happen, right? And if she does know where she is. . . well, she can explain and ditch us or whatever. Doesn't hurt us if she sticks around for a bit."
  18. The stings, Edmond was confident he could avoid, unless the creatures could both leap easily, and pierce metal. Not wholly out of the question. For now he'd just hover a bit off the ground, and hope that they couldn't. The shock system for the suit would have been mighty useful here. He steadied himself, pointing his rifle towards the dented mask on the large scorpion creature. Attack with Long Arm of the Law rifle shooting the Silver Scorpion (aiming at the corroded mask), dealing 2d8+INT damage, enemy dodge reduced by 10% (if they have a 20% dodge chance, make it 10%). 2 points global damage reduction, 4 points physical damage reduction.
  19. "Good job, Frigus, sounds like we need to haul ass back now. I'll buy you a drink next time we're in civilized parts. Harry will shoot the gatekeeper with his ADVENT Plasma Rifle for 3d6+INT damage, with INT% chance for double damage. Use Speedy Prognosis to give Frigus 1d4+13 heal if necessary.
  20. "Bugs, huh? How much further do we have to go, and do we have any knowledge of common trap types the Makuta has used in the past?" Edmond wagered that then answer would be a decisive no, and he knew he'd regret the fact that he hadn't hooked up the non-visual sensor systems to his suit. He couldn't really address that problem on the move though, and they were pressed for time. Hopefully the others would be perceptive enough. He himself settled into retrospection about the events that had unfolded, watching snippets that he'd seen at intervals on the suit's faceplate.
  21. "We didn't know. We were brought together from separate worlds for the most part with nothing tying us together." Edmond coughed out. He wrenched his thoughts away from his own dilemmas--the Makuta hadn't even had the grace to acknowledge his response--and continued to speak. "We-I at least had no context whatsoever. But that's irrelevant. We were given a chance, even if it was one the Makuta plans to laugh at before crushing. So we need to move." There had been no manipulation, no need for it, from the moment Dac--no, Medusa put on the mask. Offers of restoration, the idea of watching the group squirm in search of the Toa stones, the fact that Makuta must have felt something, actual glee at success and new perhaps even friend. And it had worked, the Makuta's pure corrosive honesty as the antidote to the group's own lies.
  22. "Sure, lady. You're probably meant to work with us anyway. Tell ya more later though." Liliya followed Solomon into the apartment, as it'd be a pretty stupid idea to start spouting out the trespassers and multiverse stuff while the gangsters were still in earshot.
  23. Edmond blanched. He'd been hoping to leave that behind, those actions. He'd convinced himself they'd been necessary, that he'd had no way of knowing how they would turn out. But, if he looked carefully at his actions, there was no arguing that everything he'd done contradicted with what he'd told Lexiel. It was all about sacrifices for the greater good, for the most payoff. As the Makuta continued his attempts to sway the others, Edmond stared at the ground silently, lost in thought. When the being had finished, Edmond spoke up. ". . .I think that's highly debateable. Selling people out was never my intent, and I believe firmly that I didn't really." The biggest moment would be that when he stayed behind as the group fled the cops. But that, that had a purpose. If they failed to escape, or became wanted, they'd have needed a man on the outside, someone without criminal stamped across his forehead. Maybe had he stayed with them, things in the Arcology would not have been so bloody. Almost certainly. But how could he have known that? He'd taken the courses of action that had seemed right at the time to him; there was never any intent to sell them out. "You have the wrong impression of me, I don't want pawns, and a way to be at my allies side? Tempting, yes. But you set the price too high. I have others who can teach me, without requiring that I become an agent of their will." "Also, I make a point to be polite to everyone if possible." That had stung, and Edmond knew that Makuta knew it had hit home. How could it not have? Still a little caught up in the internal argument he was having, Edmond asked a final question, hopefully as a distraction for the being from his internal turmoil. "So Makuta, I have a question for you. Can appear in a shadow any size? Like, do I need to be worried about you appearing inside my toolkit because it doesn't have an internal light?" He hoped that Dackly would be able to see the answer even if Makuta did not respond.
  24. "See? It's pretty easy. If that's not enough for the Lexiel fanclub, we can try more complicated options. They might not be as much fun, but we could do it without anyone touching you, and it shouldn't hurt long as you aren't a thief. Or, yaknow, maybe that satisfies them. They seem reasonably upstanding city folk." "Anyway, you're not from around these parts, if I had to hazard a guess?" Either that or she was an extremely inexperienced thief. Like, at the very least the girl should have checked her exit locations, and would have a better excuse as to why she'd stepped through a wall.
  25. "Or, and hear me out here, this polite fella," Liliya gestured to the one who seemed to be speaking for the gang, "Can have a look at what the woman is carrying. We'll all sit down real polite like, she'll show what she's got, and we'll see whether anything looks stolen." "Now Ms healer, if you haven't stolen anything, that should be perfectly fine, right? And we'll all be here as witnesses, so there's no need to fear these folks doing anything to you. Of course they wouldn't but, now there's even less reason to worry about it." As she speaks, Liliya walks out into the middle, on alert for any warning signs that the situation might end with her getting shot or injured in the very near future. (Liliya will walk out if "I've got a feeling of some sort" doesn't tell her that she's about to be murdered)
