"You say "the King of Heroes" like that should make it obvious who it is. The title could probably be applied to a number of myths--" Edmond shut up when LOTUS said his piece, then nodded in response to the request. While it seemed likely that he might have heard of this person, seeing as he was familiar with some of the myths of the other servants, Edmond was not terribly caught up on Earth legends. "Just to clarify, does this King of Heroes, Caster, have any influence on your behavior that you know of?" Edmond asked the plush. It seemed to him that referring to being controlled by God could refer to a great many things. Divine inspiration was a possible meaning, especially when dealing with King Arthur and Jeanne, but it was best to be certain that the plush was not referring to something else she considered to be a god.

[IC] BNWL Day 2: Trails Ablaze

Without saying anything, Hina stepped off after Ayano. If she was right about finding a port, then Hina might learn a little more about this. She knew of course that the palace security wouldn't explain the situation to the public fully once they'd fixed the problem. And if she was wrong, no harm done.- 221 replies

Edmond looked up and recognition flashed across his face. He had to stop himself from blurting out something along the lines of "but, we killed you?". "You'd be correct. This is the servant we fought. I'm not really certain how I missed the fact that we'd taken her with us. I suppose Magna must have done something, but it never really crossed my mind." So, perhaps Magna wasn't limited to biological creatures? Either way, he found himself irritated that he'd somehow missed this important event and the person traveling with them on the way back. "Sorry about that LOTUS. I've barely spoken with Nobunaga, or heard much of the info she provided. So which line of inquiry do you, and your network, suggest?"
-
Edmond nodded slowly. "Alright. . . and why?" It would be interesting to know how singleminded, and how one dimensional this Servant's goals were. Since, obviously, they were unlikely to give, never mind safely obtain the grail. He didn't look up at the person asking the question, and simply responded, "It's the stuffed toy. Servant got trapped in it or turned into it. Somehow. Probably someone's power, but I wasn't around to witness."
-
Harry nodded once out of habit. <"Got it. Tell me if you need anything. I'd suggest having it stay behind me for the first part of the advance, I can take some hits, then going high, and free falling to the target. I'll see if I can get some other people to help lay down suppressive fire against any ADVENT troops who see it and aim up."> At this point, Harry stopped to listen to Frigus' message, then sent off one more instruction. <"Alan, you heard that, aim for the generator not the cannon itself."> Next, Harry waited till the drone took off to fly behind him, and he approached Nader. "Me and Alan are trying to get this thing in close to maybe blow the generator. If I could get some extra suppressive fire on anyone aiming upwards at the thing, that'd be great." Move forward 1 square to D6 with the drone behind Harry.

As Harry arrived at the breach, he saw a drone heading towards him, which he approached after it had landed. <"Got the drone Alan, thanks."> Next, he quickly rifled through his backpack, pulling out the spray canister and detonator that he'd picked up. First, he broke the seal on the can, and sprayed a copious amount of the stuff onto the middle of the drone, between the sets of propellers. Then, he stuck the can itself into the slightly expanding and solidifying foam, and finally he pushed the detonator into the glob. Hopefully detonating the stuff on the outside would be enough to rupture the canister, and blow up the whole thing. At this point, he realized a small problem. He didn't have any way to fly the thing. <"Hey Alan! You planning on flying that thing from where you are, or what?">

"No, there's no problem Midori. I just couldn't remember. It does happen from time to time." Hina took a bite off her piece of toast, chewed, and swallowed. "Have you ever been here before--any of our destinations really--or will this be a first fo you?" She asked this offhandedly to Midori. Her rather decent knowledge of all the destinations could be the result of simple good research, or it could be personal experience, and it didn't seem a poor topic of conversation.- 221 replies

<"A suicide run. Get in there with a plastic explosive payload of about one kilo, and hopefully detonate under the barrel or something. Anything to delay repeated fire while we work to fight off the ground assault."> Harry patted his backpack, reminding himself where the canister was in there, and where the detonators were (on opposite sides of the bag), so that they could be removed efficiently. A kilogram of C4 was significant, but now where near the level of a bomb or missile and the cannon might be set up to take that kind of explosion. However maybe in the right location, along with the extra force that the antimatter might contribute, it might be able to do something.

<"Cannon? Got it. I'll be heading towards the breach. At the very least we should be able to keep Aquila alive while he hits the thing with his flail. Though. . . Alan! Got any quick drones that can carry. . . maybe a kilo of weight? Needs to be fast enough to get up to the cannon without getting hit."> Harry started walking out of the hospital wing heading for the breach, after relaying the info about the cannon to Nader if he hadn't made it clear that he was on comms.

"Nader, didn't expect to see you here." Harry commented, though he seemed to have nothing to add beyond that. Thinking for a moment as he surveyed the peaceful wing, Harry stepped to the side, and activated the comms unit still in his ear from the previous mission. <"Harry here. Does anyone read? Anyone still wearing these? Over.">

As soon as the alarms had started blaring Harry had unslung his rifle and headed out of the room in which he'd been practicing some of his psionics. If this was an attack, as the sudden and resounding boom confirmed, there would be two options. A long range bombardment, or boarding. The latter made sense, given the teleportation that had been displayed previously, and it was better for crushing morale anyway. There would be two possible targets in that case. Either the engine rooms or the bridge. Both would give some control over the ship. There was no great way of choosing which way to go, so Harry headed in the direction that he thought the medical wing was first. He could check whether the life support systems for the wounded were still functioning, and then if all seemed well there he could head to the bridge or the engine room, since those were the most obvious targets when boarding.

"This was so short. Will it be only two days in France as well?" Hina asked between bites of food. She didn't have anything else in mind that she'd wanted to visit in England, but it felt odd to go on vacation here for the first time, then leave after just two days. But they did have other more importan goals, she reasoned.- 221 replies

"Thanks, that clarifies things." Edmond had said in response to LOTUS. He quieted as they began the task of communicating with lancer. It'd be interesting here, to see what the servant decided to say. One benefit of the tablet was that there was no reliance on someone else guessing, and the servant could proactively introduce topics. Still some lack of autonomy in actually getting a conversation when she wanted one, but maybe a small buzzer or something that the plush could press when it needed to speak would work. As the plush was presented the opportunity to type, another thought occurred to Edmond. "Do you think she can read modern--no, I expect it'll probably get the same effect that lets all of us from different universes understand eachother, and I doubt she'd be illiterate."
-
"We didn't get very far in talking about this, but I think the best idea we came up with that didn't resort to magic--which we concluded might be dangerous on even a stuffed servant--was a touchscreen of some kind." Edmond too was a little surprised by the AIs obvious good spirits. "I uh, hesitate to suggest that you could do the job; that might be somewhat insulting. But, I don't mean any offense by it. If you can serve that way, it'd be incredibly helpful, but if you'd rather not, we can definitely build something, and perhaps you could help with the programming of the display or the like." Here Edmond had come across the idea that perhaps they didn't need a full touchscreen. If Ritsu had any pressure plates or touch based sensory system built in, it was possible that small parts might be removed temporarily. They could mark those up with letters, and then display the output on a smaller, less refined screen. More of a primitive keyboard and monitor arrangement. It again involved using someone present though. . .
-
Edmond appeared as though he hadn't thought of that. "You're right, there's probably multiple ways that reading their minds might go wrong. As far as a touchpad goes, I've got some stuff that should work on the castle. But, probably not enough to make one completely, given the notable lack of an actual touchscreen." He had some hard drives, maybe some chips, probably enough for basic word processing with the software from his suit jury-rigged in, but the problem would be the lack of the actual touchscreen mostly, and maybe a powersource. He was sure every other problem could be solved with the assortment of wires, switches, and circuit elements that he'd picked up in Seattle. "So, do you have anything that might be of use, or anyone you've noticed that might have supplies useful for this?"

[IC] Fate/Reborn 2.0 Second War
Strider replied to Shamitako's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Assassin: As soon as Liliya felt the presence of another servant, she'd widened the distance between herself and the master, Nadia. Now about thirty meters back, still in spirit form, she watched as a servant touched down. Probably Saber. Reasonably conclusion given the sword at her side. Definitely saber, Liliya thought, after the Servant stated that fact directly. You still want to ally with this person? Unlike Kazuki, this Nadia seems dangerous on her own, and on top has a Saber. Well, up to you I guess, but I don't plan on introducing myself at the present if that's alright. She was an assassin, and if Karsten wanted to ally with these people, they'd need as many advantages as possible for when they were inevitably backstabbed. Even with her precog, there wouldn't be much she could do against a faster servant or a even mediocre noble phantasm. So hiding herself as long as possible, even if it wouldn't increase trust, was probably for the best. Min: Min hit his head on the fabric of the back of the seat of his car. This wasn't enough information! Did this Servant know anything about the necessity of information in battle, or how to quickly convey it? Peter. What is going on? Why will tink need help? "I've got this" tells me nothing. Explain what is going on now. -
"I don't need to know. Sorry for asking." Harry closed nodded apologetically before continuing. "I don't need it, but I would love to have it. If it's possible--I don't know how much of this cannister is full, and how much is dedicated to stasis and storage measures--would you care to split it 75-25? Me taking the twenty-five percent of course." It was a material of unparalleled possibilities. However, he wouldn't need much to begin investigating it, or so Harry hoped. On other worlds he might come across the tech to replicate it, or a way to trigger replication--though that would need to be done exceedingly carefully. XCOM did not have this capacity. It looked as if their only hope was to steal it. "If it's not possible to split it. . . well, I suppose you can keep it."

"First of all, that does not sound like a fun time, how the hell did you get out?" It was probably nice, Harry supposed, for her that they'd arrived, from more than simply a tactical perspective. It was something that presumably ADVENT would not have simulated, maybe even could not have simulated. Depended a bit upon how many records of humanity they'd actually picked up and looked through. Or they could have built something from the commander's own mind. Harry guessed that she would not be the type to imagine Rachel or Aquila though. It was at this point that he realized that he was considering how someone else might go about proving that he himself was not an illusion. A waste of time. Shaking his head, he continued after his pause. "Second, that sounds incredibly useful. It'll be a hassle if they're preprogrammed, but maybe with Alan's help. . . Certainly not impossible. With that variety of options I'd assume there definitely would be a number of very specific. . . activation mechanisms. Connecting biological parts means rewiring the nervous system, and presumably some connectivity through muscle or ligaments, probably some sort of apoptosis at the connection point. Altering the genome would require some kind of base strand to implant, or some complicated methods for targeting and removing snips. . ." "Shit. Sorry about that. It's just, it's almost too versatile, and I'm trying to think how it'd work on that scale. Mind if I abscond with some of this? Or are you going to need to confiscate it or something?"

"Probably a good idea to keep an eye out for shit that might help your world in particular. Probably find more of that in worlds more versed in magic than this one, but something to keep in the back of our minds." After exiting the firebrand carrying his meld cannister, Harry inquired of one of the people in the hangar where he might find the commander. Once he'd arrived, he knocked, and when he was certain he would not be interrupting, he entered. A few steps into the room, he set down the cannister on the floor. "Hello, Commander Zhou. Database told me you knew what this stuff is. Apologies if I'm interrupting anything, but I wanted to know what you can tell about it."

"Ah, thanks. I'll take a look when we land, after the meld stuff." Harry merely raised his eyebrows and shook his head ever so slightly at Nader. It didn't even make sense as a moniker, he wasn't a ship pilot or crewman, he was earth native, all that. "Well, I suppose you're not wrong, democracies do need constant adaptation. No magic in my world, no spontaneous head explosions." Jesus, this woman's world sounded terrible beyond belief. Normally Harry would need to question how much was simply fearmongering by the leaders, but, spontaneous head explosions among those who use magic, and the other symptoms mentioned did not seem the type to be easily faked. "You're world sounds, no offense, pretty shitty. Don't you have any good gods or anything? You're in a battle of attrition that you're losing, up against a set of gods. Is there any sliver of hope anywhere?" While he hesitated to ask it, and he didn't think it the right course of action, Harry was mostly wondering why everyone hadn't simply given up yet.

Assassin: "Yeah, done so. Guy's in a doorway about fifteen meters back from you. Probably couldn't run if he tried. Heading around the block, north." Liliya had left Kazuki on the threshold of some little shop, then headed back around the block. Spirit form, heading around at a quick pace, though carefully checking corners. Until she'd be about a bit behind where the other master should be. Not too close, but Liliya was confident that she could close the distance if necessary. "In position." -
Harry's eyes widened at this, cementing firmly in his mind the notion that this woman was some kind of cultist. But still, there was a point there. "I'll admit, in the most dire circumstances, absolute control is probably most effective for survival. Normally, I'd say that it's a questionable excuse since the higher ups can always pretend that there are dire circumstances and threats, but it sounds like you've been out in battle plenty to be able to tell that sort of thing." "Anyway, ignoring that, I have no idea what a Tzeentchian is, and I'd be willing to bet that neither Aquila nor Nader know either. Mind informing me?"

"I'm don't think you would. But I'd be willing to bet good money that most of the people who ended up killing children wouldn't have expected that they'd ever do that or even be capable of that. Whatever, nevermind that." Harry raised his hands in exasperation. He didn't seriously expect any child killing, but Nader seemed to have missed the point about excess paranoia tending to take people places they didn't want to go. "Anyway, you're right about the significantly higher danger in our work. But it still doesn't warrant the type of paranoia you're advocating. There's a reason why people take turns keeping watch besides the sleep thing, it's kind of stressful. You've got to be on heightened alert at all times, always checking behind you, adrenaline pumping at every snap of a twig. So sure, we've got more danger, and we need to be careful and prepared, but it needs some balance. Need to let other people take the pressure for a bit, and relax, even if you need your guns near you to relax." "Dunno how different your world is from mine, not familiar with some of the countries you're talking about, but the Nazis lost in my world. Something to do with the whole invading Russia and stalin until winter." XCOM would probably have world maps, Harry thought, and it might be interesting to see where this Arstotzka was located.
