I never 'got' this song when Volume 4's soundtrack came out, and I never really followed Grim Eclipse aside from the 'first came out on Steam Greenlight' hype.........(and I forgot the look anything up after listening to it initially.......oops). Seeing this does add some much needed context to the song
and gives a rare example of RT actually making a good (mostly non-generic) RWBY villain with only a limited time to show them.Spoiler- Show previous comments 5 more

This has been one of my favorite RWBY songs ever since I first played Grimm Eclipse. Really really good.
As far as Merlot goes, yeah he was an ok villain in the game but the limited screentime didn't give him a true chance to shine as an intelligent antagonist. Hearing mentions of him in the show would be nice, but I personally don't have very high hopes. I don't think the past volumes were headed any way that would allow it to make a lot of sense.

I didn't actually watch the game yet, so I suppose it was a bit early to call him a 'good' villain........at least he seemed better than Vol 1-3 Cinder at any rate.
If they do try to incorporate him, I hope they don't try some generic "put him with the rest of the villains" thing, since it wouldn't make sense for his character (and then justify it with the "he became more unhinged" excuse.
yet it seems just generic enough for RT to do...Not likely to be incorporated, but maybe...... -
I can actually see him join Salem in two ways:
1 - He is forced to make some Grimm stronger for Salem and the gang, this also allows him to research Grimm.
2- He joins Salem only to research and mutate Grimm for his own goal while mutating some for her on occasion.
The difference between these being that with option two he will not be forced and simply comply and work together with Salem.
