  1. Well, it is true that a Pokemon game is meant to give advantages to the player: the player's Pokemon have EVs while the opponents have not, the player can breed for stronger moves while the opponents cannot, the player has a strategy in picking the moves, why the opponents perform actions at random, under the guide of a not-so-good AI. So yeah, if you want to balance this out, and turn a Pokemon game into a real challenge, what do you do? Full teams on every plot-relevant opponents? That's nice, but still an AI cannot be as strategic as a living, breathing and above all thinking human being. Level cap? NPCs are subjected to that as well. No money? There are many ways to get around that, pickup immediately comes to mind, specially considering that Pachirisu is obtained early on... So yeah, I can understand that a honest programmer, wanting to make their game harder, may give in to the temptation of abusing hax. Hax-themed teams, entire NPCs built around hax, gym battles ruled by hax, movesets specifically created to enhance hax, to the point of giving the illusion (but is it actually an illusion?) of a game programmed to give an unfair advantage to the NPCs, albeit for the noble reason of balancing out the unfair advantage the player has by definition. It is fully understandable that one might give in to such a temptation to make a name for their game as the hardest Pokemon game ever seen, however one should try and avoid causing a feeling of Fake Difficulty (be that justified or not) in their public... Let's face it, some passages in the game are specifically designed to frustrate the average Pokemon player (the Ice gym comes to mind). That being said, it would be up to the maturity of the player to find a way to play around it and enjoy the good aspects of the game, which surely exist, or just quit the hell off this game without causing avoidable drama on the forums. It is the magic of Pokemon Reborn: the gameplay is filled with fake difficulty and the plot with gratuitous deaths, to the point that playing through it is an experience comparable to walking on shattered glass with bare feet while carrying a bag of bricks on your back during a thunderstorm, and you probably find yourself in the middle of the night praying for unmentionable things to happen to its programmer. But for some reason you just cannot stop playing it, can you? That, my friends, is clever marketing.
  2. I did gave in to the temptation, gathered the money, and got a 2DS... And now here I am! Now, on the topic: I was thinking about using Mega Blastoise as bulky Rapid Spinner and special attacker, and a non Mega Evolving Pokemon as the physical set up sweeper... But what should I use in such spot in this second scenario? I am still trying to find something that is easier to put together than Bullet Punch Lucario... Also, I feel my current build is kinda Fire-weak, given that Starmie is quite frail and cannot repeatedly switch in and out! A set up sweeper that is not weak to Fire and Mega Blastoise would maybe create a more reliable core... Don't know, maybe Talonflame?
  3. So far, the variant with Starmie and Lucario is testing wonders on Showdown... Only, I am worried it would be difficult to create in game, given how painful it is to get Bullet Punch onto Lucario! That's why I had asked for an alternative...
  4. Ok that's great, I just started testing and Ferrothorn seems to be working just fine... I have also started looking for a different option for a Rapid Spinner, and I have come to the conclusion that the best idea would be to use a specially offensive Rapid Spinner in tandem with a physical set up attacker... The options are Starmie+Mega Lucario (which seems better competitively) or Mega Blastoise + something that does not Mega Evolve (which seems easier to achieve in game). Any ideas on a physical set up sweeper to use in the second scenario? The team would consist of Wobbuffet, Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Mega Blastoise and Florges...
  5. After testing both a lot, I can actually say that Florges is superior to Sylveon: that extra bulk really helps (hell, she can take Sludge Bomb from Mega Gengar), also she learns Wish and Aromatherapy via level up, while iirc you need to do some intricate breeding to get Wish and Heal Bell on Eevee... Also, where can I find a female Riolu? As an alternative, where can I find a Ditto to breed with the male one you get as a present from the Fighting-type Gym Leader? Because I'd need a female Riolu to breed with Hitmonchan, assuming I can actually obtain the latter... What really bugs me is the lack of Stealth Rock: what is an obtainable, bulky Stealth Rock user in Gen 6? Tyrantrum gets it, but... Well, that doesn't seem a viable supporter/phazer/Stealth Rock user for OU to me... Now that I think about it, Ferroseed exists in the game, and that resists Electric, is bulky and can get Stealth Rock via breeding... Now the problem is, you need to breed Ferroseed with a Pokemon that learns Stealth Rock via level! That means Geodude's or Roggenrola's families... Do those exist in game?

I've only seen a trainer use Skarmory once and none aside from that, but it's in my Friend Safari if you're looking for that

idk exactly what you mean by "in game" though

From what I've seen and experienced... klefki might be an even bigger troll than Skarmory.

  7. So, I am trying my best to create a competitive team that is possible to build in game, either in Pokemon X or in Pokemon Y. After a lot of research I have come up with this, but I feel there are still things that could be improved a lot: Apparently there is something wrong with Gen 6 sprites, however the missing one is Florges. Allow me to explain in detail the use I am planning to make of each Pokemon: for each of them I have doubts and questions in my mind, so please help me by giving all the suggestions you can... @ Custap Berry Ability: Shadow Tag EVs: 252 HP / 252 Spd / 4 SDef Timid Nature - Counter - Destiny Bond - Encore - Mirror Coat Wobbuffet is possibly my favorite Pokemon. Yes even more than Tyrannitar, and sure as hell more than Salamence. In the right hands, for example mine, this guy is absolutely deadly: from revenging choiced Pokemon to trapping and encoring support ones (which is the reason why I invested so much in Speed) in order to give a companion a free switch in, Wobbuffet has it all, and it is hands-down the most important member of this team. And the Custap-Bond combo grants you an extra kill, just for added bs value. THE PROBLEM: is Custap Berry obtainable at all in X/Y? If so, where? @ Lucarionite Ability: Steadfast EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP Jolly Nature - Power-Up Punch - Bullet Punch - Swords Dance - Crunch The only Pokemon that truly benefits from Mega Evolution (just make some calcs and you'll find out that all Pokemon, with the only two exceptions being Lucario and Mawile which offensively sucks anyway, are actually able to deal far more damage in their regular state with a Choice Item or a Life Orb, than in their itemless Mega state), Lucario is here to pick the bones after the rest of the team has done what it is supposed to do (wear down opponents). The idea is to exploit Wobbuffet to give Lucario a free switch in, Mega Evolve AND use Swords Dance as the opponent is forced out, and then proceed to clean house: Power-Up Punch kills anything that would die to Close Combat thanks to the boost it gets from the insane Adaptability ability, and in doing so boosts your Attack even more, Bullet Punch is stronger than Scizor's and Crunch rounds out coverage. It seems to me that next Gen's OU tier has already found its top sweeper... THE PROBLEM: ...Except that Extremespeed in far inferior to Bullet Punch. It just doesn't cut it, this set NEEDS Bullet Punch to be effective. But Bullet Punch can only be obtained by breeding with Hitmonchan, which iirc is not present in X/Y... This is actually a huge problem, and unless some of you guys can come up with a way of getting Bullet Punch, I might as well go for a different set up sweeper to use in the same spot... But who should I use in this case? Blaziken? Is there even a remote possibility that Blaziken will be any less than Uber in Gen 6? Or maybe something else? Whatever goes in this spot, it will REALLY need something to hit them Fairies, too... @ Leftovers Ability: Flower Veil EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 SAtk Modest Nature - Aromatherapy - Moonblast - Wish - Protect Forget about Blissey, Florges is where it's at: a better typing both offensively and defensively, a comparable special bulk (much less HP, but much more SpDef), and a decent SpAtk that can actually kill stuff even uninvested, thanks to the amazing Moonblast. And those three moves there, Aromatherapy, Wish and Protect, can keep alive theentire team without any trouble... THE PROBLEM: None really. The Shiny Stone and the TM for Protect are easily obtained in the game, and the other moves are learned via level up, so this is actually the only member of the team that I am 100% guaranteed to use... @ Leftovers Ability: Sturdy EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk Impish Nature - Brave Bird - Roost - Spikes - Whirlwind No comments needed, we all know what Skarmory does. The synergy it has with Florges is simply amazing, this core has seriously the potential to become better than the good old Skarm-Bliss... THE PROBLEM: Is Skarmory even in the game? I vaguely remember bumping into one once, but I might be wrong, and I would like someone to confirm this... @ Black Sludge Ability: Liquid Ooze EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef Modest Nature - Sludge Bomb - Toxic Spikes - Rapid Spin - Protect Great typing, great bulk, is a rapid spinner... And even with the new Defog mechanics, Tentacruel can still do it better than the few guys which actually got the new OP variant of Rapid Spin... THE PROBLEM: Scald (or Surf) is far superior to Sludge Bomb, but without a reliable way of hitting them fairies (see Lucario @THE PROBLEM) I might be forced to resort to that... I've seen that many people use Excadrill as offensive Rapid Spin user, so yeah, maybe I could use that over Luke, and maybe a specially-oriented set up sweeper over Tentacruel, since Toxic Spikes are not that crucial, and I already have a special wall in Florges... But which Pokemon should I use as a special attacker in such a case? Goodra maybe? Dragalge? Also, I talk about using Excadrill as physical attacker and offensive Rapid Spinner, but is that actually obtainable in X/Y? And if so, where? Would (Mega) Garchomp be a viable alternative? And could I afford to go without Rapid spin in such a case? @ Leftovers Ability: Sand Stream EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk Adamant Nature - Earthquake - Slack Off - Stealth Rock - Roar A Sand Streamer in a non sand-reliant team? Well, you see, I just needed a Pokemon that could set up Stealth Rock. I also needed some added bulk, an extra phazer and an Electric immunity. And this guy just works fine, the Sand it brings doesn't even bother much, with the new Gen 6 weather mechanics... THE PROBLEM: That moveset looks problematic to achieve in Gen 6... Slaking's family is not there to breed for Slack Off (iirc), and I don't even know if there is a TM for Stealth Rock... However, should I go for something like Excadrill or Garchomp in the physical attacker slot, thus getting myself the much needed Electric immunity, I could actually afford to run something else here, something bulky that is capable of setting Stealth Rocks and maybe to phaze... But is there anything like that in Gen 6? So there you have it: I've clearly explained my problems and my doubts, I will be immensely grateful to anyone who helps to solve at least one of these dilemmas! [NOTE: I haven't put in an importable because this is not supposed to be a RMT for PO/Showdown. If rules still want me to have an importable just let me know and I'll add it]
  8. Planning a Gen 6 competitive UU team... Gogoat, Tyrantrum and Florges are on board so far, now I need a bulky Water-type (possibly with phazing capabilities), one or more entry hazard setter, and a fast sweeper... Possibly obtainable in Pokemon X/Y, since I want to create this team in game for wi-fi battles! Any ideas?

  9. Returning to my hometown in a matter of hours, I'll be back here on sunday night! Bye all!

  10. Of course, Gen 6 is actually the reason why I have waited this long to get this roleplay started... I was waiting for info on Gen 6 Pokemon to be available on Bulbapedia, Pokemon DB, and the likes! Now everything is more or less set, we still need to adjust some details but I am confident that we'll be able to get this roleplay started next week...
  11. Oh God why is everyone so hot in this damn region? It's not like there are only hotties in France!

  12. Sometimes I find out my reputation has improved, and then I struggle for half a hour to find the post of mine that got the new like(s)... Isn't there a way to keep track of who likes what in this forum?

Yeah, I miss seeing who liked my posts. It let me know who think along the same lines I do about different topics.

  13. In neither lol... The cost would be in the points used for the creation of the character. EXAMPLE: each player, upong creating their character, is given 500 points. You have 3 stats to invest in (Power, Charisma, Wisdom), which influence various aspects of the gameplay. The cap for each stat is 100, so if you max them all out that would cost you 300 points. But then you need to pick the Pokemon you want as a starter, and that will cost you points depending on how strong is the Pokemon you pick, with exra prices to pay for a particularly broken ability: let's say you want Speed Boost Blaziken, that will cost you 100 points + 50 for the Speed Boost ability, so up to now you are spending (counting also the stats) 450 points. Now you need to pick your Perfect Pokemon, that is the Pokemon you can achieve Perfect Link with: same prices as before apply, with an extra cost to pay if the Perfect Pokemon picked is the same as the starter Pokemon (because having the Perfect Pokemon with you since the very beginning would give you an obvious advantage). In our example of Speed Boost Blaziken, to make that your Perfect Pokemon you'd spend 200 more points (100 for the Pokemon + 50 for the ability + 50 because the Perfect Pokemon is the same as the starter one). NOW you need to purchase a power for your warrior, with a very good one costing around 50 points. Therefore, if you want stats maxed out, a great Pokemon to be both your starter AND you Perfect Pokemon, and a very good power, you'll have to spend 700 points. But when you join in, you are given only 500. This means you have to go without something: someone will choose to settle with a lesser Pokemon, someone else will decide to purchase a lesser power, someone else will just cut down their own stats, and so on. This will not only guarantee diversity (because each player will invest in something different), it will also prevent people from making broken characters. But these points you spend have no price in terms of rupees or real money lol, it is just a method we use to make sure people create balanced characters...
  14. Well, warrios ARE going to have powers, but I am afraid I cannot allow you to make your own: there will be a list of powers available, and people will have to pick one of those. "Why?" you may ask. Simple: because each person will be given, when creating his/her character, a set amount of points to invest in their stats (Power, Wisdom, Charisma), in the Pokemon they want to pick as starter one and/or as Perfect one, and so on. Everything will cost with a price, INCLUDING the powers. I will publish a list of available powers, and each will have a set cost: this way, absolute balance will be guaranteed... This being said, it is absolutely false that you are the last person I'd want as a co-host, why would you say such a thing?
  15. Before you kill me off, I shall point out that I am waiting for the rest of my squad to post before posting again... Two members to go!
  16. I am going to sleep people, goodnight everybody! Give Gogoat some love while I am away! http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5703

  17. Now I get it, thanks Sakido!
  18. This, sir, is absolutely brilliant. As for me, since you just did a post about Pokemon X/Y and I wouldn't ever been able to make another as good, I'll just talk about the game I was playing moments ago, just before coming to check what's going on around this forum... Fifa 14 ...Yay I'm Cristiano Ronaldo!
  19. Iirc every time a new week starts, the weather for the week is randomly decided, so I am afraid that's just sheer bad luck... Unless you got a version with some kind of strange bug I am not aware of, but I don't think that'd be the case...
  20. Strange, I've been there because I had heard this from Nickaboo's giude, but I didn't find any Nuzleaf/Shiftry... Is that weather/time related?
  21. Banned because it has been a while since I last posted in here and I just felt like banning someone.
  22. Am I the only one who finds Gogoat to be very promising for the Gen 6 UU tier?

It is very bulky, it has 4 (FOUR!) recovery moves, and on top of that it also has good Atk, an Atk boosting ability, and access to Bulk Up... That's one hell of a movepool right there! I even started a Research Center topic on it ;)

    3. Color

      Color

I use the Bulk set with Leaf Blade, Milk Drink, Bulk Up and Rock Slide. Garchomp and Zard take care of any steels that try to stop it. Srsly, that thing is a threat with the right support.

Sub-seed is also an option, given the bulk... it forces switches to make it easier for its comrades to come in and do their job!

  23. GOAT MAKING D-BRY PROUD Gogoat (M/F) @ Life Orb Trait: Sap Sipper EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Spe Adamant (or Jolly) Nature - Substitute - Bulk Up - Leech Seed - Horn Leech Gogoat is interesting. You don't often see a Pokemon with respectable Atk, decent bulk and very high HP that also happens to have access to 4 (FOUR!) recovery moves. Leech Seed, Synthesis, Milk Drink and Horn Leech: lots of supporters and bulky offenders would kill to have at least one of these moves, and Gogoat has them all. Since I am a huge fan of bulky offense however, I tried to go that way. The point of this set is to exploit the good bulk and the key resistances/immunities (resistant to Water and Ground, two very common offensive types, and immune to Grass thanks to the Sap Sipper ability which will boost its attack upon switching in) to switch into the key Pokemon of the UU tier (yes, I am predicting Gogoat to be UU, a good UU actually) like the bulky Water-types, Flygon scarf-locked into EQ, and Sub-Seed Shaymin (which usually carries Earth Power as coverage move), and set up in their face. Thanks to the very high HP stat Gogoat enjoys, the Substitutes it makes will have more than 100 HP, and thus won't be destroyed by moves that deal fixed damage, so defensive Pokemon like Defense form Deoxys, which rely on such move, will become set-up fodders as well. At this point the idea is simple: if your opponent doesn't have a Pokemon that can pose an immediate threat to your Gogoat (for example a specially attacking Fire-type) you boost your stats with Bulk Up and proceed to deal massive damage with Horn Leech, resting assured that the recovery this move grants will negate the Life Orb recoil, thus allowing you to bring the pain with no drawbacks. If they have a threat to your Gogoat, or maybe a Pokemon that can wall it and kill back (for example Togekiss), you just Leech Seed it during the turn they waste to break your Substitute, and then switch to an appropriate comrade, which will easily take the hit aimed at Gogoat and immediately recover the health lost thanks to Leech Seed, which will be still in effect: this will most likely force your opponent to switch, giving you a free turn to set up OR a free kill with a Choice Band user. Speaking of Choice Band users: should Tyrantrum not make it to the OU tier, the Choice Band set I suggested for it would make a great partner for this set of Gogoat. I can definitely see the two becoming a strong bulky offense core in the UU tier this generation.
