"Venusaur, Vine Whip the floor." A bunch of 8 thick, green vines lashes the floor on Venusaur's left, the recoil propelling him to the right, out of the way of the two flamethrowers. "Now, Bounce!" Numerous vines, too quickly to count, strike the floor beneath Venusaur, launching him into the air, directly over the Houndoom.

In my defence, it's perfectly possible for a Venusaur to learn Hydro Pump. The flower on its back will, naturally, have xylem of some sort, and it's therefore theoretically possible to train it to a point where it is able to redirect the water being transferred to its xylem outwards, while varying the pressure at the same time.

The Venusaur trembles slightly. It tenses up, then leaps over the circlet of flames. The flower on its back begins to open up, its centre becoming far more porous and moist. "Venusaur, use Hydro Pump." From the centre of the flower on its back, Venusaur releases a barrage of clear, pressurised water at the snarling Houndoom.

"I'll match that move. Venusaur, Growth." Gardenia's Venusaur begins to pulsate with energy and light, its body seeming to grow in size.

Gardenia smiles as she releases her Venusaur. Its coloration seems slightly off-tilt, with a much lighter shade of green on its skin than other Venusaurs. "Oh? A fire type. A traditionalist, I see. Please, make the first move. I insist."

Gardenia snapped her fingers, and the walls of light surrounding Lupus disappeared. "Oh! How very brave of you. I will be using Venusaur. Which Pokemon shall you be using?"

The doors to the gym open before you, revealing a woman, with long, flowing brown hair crowned with a circlet. Her green dress hugs her figure tightly, her long skirt billowing around her in its layers of sheer fabric. She beckons to you, and you step into the room cautiously. She smiles and speaks. "Hello there. I am Gardenia, and welcome to Eterna Gym. Under the rules, the group that can defeat me will obtain the territory that is Eterna City. Hardly a small prize." Gardenia smirks slightly and claps her hands thrice. Immediately, walls of light appear in between each of you, separating you from your allies. "Of course, having so many of you fight me at the same time would be slightly disadvantageous for me. Those walls are made of stored solar energy. If you try to pass through them, you will burn up and die. So. You will each fight me, one-on-one, and the rest of you will watch. You can give up at any time, but you'll only get to challenge me once." She taps her feet against the ground, causing a console to emerge from the ground, containing twelve Pokeballs, arranged in two rows. "Now then. Who will be the first to die?"

Eleriese poked her head out behind Olrien's broad shoulders. The hostile Vanda was standing quite a distance away, staring at the group with what was clearly suspicion. The tension in the air was stifling, and she was rather concerned that it might have affected her complexion. Eleriese sighed in exasperation. Everyone needed to just calm down and work out the problem. Of course, that was likely too much to expect of men. She noticed Braius tense up. "Call it off. NOW." Call what off? Unable to resist her natural inclination towards curiosity and a total lack of self-preservation, Eleriese closed her eyes and listened to the rhythms in the earth. A slow rumbling; A soft growl; the earth shifting beneath her; Eleriese recognised these patterns. A sand surfer. Not exactly common around these parts, but not quite an impossible sight. Having to burrow underground, surfers were highly attuned to vibrations in the earth, which alerted them to obstacles or danger under the sand, where visibility was impossible. In fact, there were several traditional Vanda dances attributed to the movements of the surfer, a series of steps which were created as a method of domesticating the surfers by calming them through very specific footwork. Everyone needed to calm down, there was a creature, right here, whose natural rhythms had been incorporated into a calming dance. Perfect. Therefore... Eleriese focused and synchronised her breathing with the pulse of the surfer, feeling said pulse through the slight throbs throughout the ground. Then, with perfect grace, she began to move her feet quickly and systematically, the number of taps, the angle of the turns, all executed with pinpoint precision. Then, she began to transition from her memorised steps to her intuitive steps: she began to feel the natural rhythms of the surfer - she began to dance.

You may have heard that she was a friendly gym leader in the past, a kind face to induct new trainers into the rigours of training. Those days are gone. She will be a challenge, an obstacle. Once she has been defeated, this area should be liberated from Arceus' - and therefore Dawn's - sphere of control. Expect nothing, and you will be surprised by nothing." Lucas turns away, his back facing you. "I will not be able to join you on this task; my strength is needed in Sunyshore. Give a call back to Command when the city has been secured. I wish you the best of luck." A red light beams from one of the Pokeballs on Lucas' waist, its shape transforming into an Alakazam. With a flash of light, Lucas vanishes. You turn towards the gym.
