So, I went to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 today, and I realized I was critiquing things about it in my head and thought that maybe we should have a thread regarding movie reviews.
So, I'll take a stab at The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.
Beware! this may contain spoilers.
Overall Opinion: First of all, if you did not read the book, I'd recommend at least browsing through it so you at least have some idea as to what is happening before you watch the movie. The movie was rather enjoyable. It started out rather slow, however. But, after pieces clicked into place, like Katniss choosing to be the revolution's Mockingjay, things began to speed up. Overall, I would give it about a 6/10. It was an enjoyable movie, but very slow, and very uneventful, but for the right reasons.
Accuracy in comparison to the book: Not very accurate, unfortunately. But, its inaccuracy allowed for the movie to be more enjoyable than just a stale, visual reproduction of the book.
Cast: I think the cast is well put together. Each character portrays their role, incredibly well, especially Julianne Moore, who plays the role of President Coin. They all helped develop the severity of the situation and how dystopian their world truly is.
Plot: After seeing Peeta being used as fuel for the Capitol's propaganda, Katniss decided to become District 13's Mockingjay, the face of the rebellion. Throughout the book, she is used as a public figure to inspire the rest of the Districts to rebel against the Capital. After a critical battle in District 5, the electricity was cut off to the Capitol, allowing troops from District 13 to infiltrate the Capital in a desperate attempt to rescue the kidnapped competitors of the 3rd Quarter Quell. Upon their return, however, Peeta had been brainwashed by President Snow to kill Katniss.
