  1. Ryan C here. Time for team #4! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZmvtqODdvE&feature=related You can forget you saw that if you want. But anyway, purple is a color that I really did not want to do, because it reminds me of all the annoying Pokemon that happen to be purple. How many are there? Well... Just to point out a few. I hope this purple team does a good job at angering others, too. (F) @ Flying Gem Trait: Regenerator EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Fake Out - Acrobatics - Drain Punch - Stone Edge Fake Out Lead. This Mienshao has a few tricks up its sleeve that differ it from the Life Orb Mienshao that is normally seen. Fake Out is what it is. Acrobatics gets stupid power against many of the new Fighting-types, especially with the Flying Gem. Drain Punch takes care of the STAB business. Stone Edge hits what Drain Punch can not hit that well, and in some cases Acrobatics as well. (F) @ Light Clay Trait: Magic Bounce EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Psychic - Heal Bell - Reflect - Light Screen Very supportive with a touch of offense. Espeon has some offensive prowess, and this set is meant to being out the best of both worlds while still outrunning most of the tier. Psychic is there to counteract the huge physical presence on this team, Heal Bell stops status from crippling my teams and gives the team some time to wait for Forretress to arrive and clear Toxic Spikes. Reflect is for guarding the fellow Pokemon against attacks, as is Light Screen. (M) @ Black Sludge Trait: Inner Focus EVs: 176 HP / 192 Atk / 144 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Brave Bat - Super Fang - Taunt - Roost Flier and stallbreaker. This guy has the tools to stop a Pokemon from...well...stopping a Pokemon...like the BroBat. It starts with Super Fang, and ends with a big Brave Bat - wait, it's actually Brave Bird square to the face to score the takedown. Taunt removes all the tools needed to set up a stalling stall. Roost replenishes Brave Bird and Iron Barbs damage since I will be using this to take down Ferrothorn fail all else. (M) @ Razor Claw Trait: Sniper EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Night Slash - Cross Poison - Earthquake - Swords Dance Physical attacker and an embodiment of the God of Hax. This is meant to abuse high crit-hits, backed by dual screens. Night Slash and Cross Poison are what makes this Pokemon what it is. Earthquake is another physical attack that takes care of coverage issues, although it still can't touch Skarmory. Swords Dance boosts Drapion's attacks if the crits aren't a-comin'. (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Sturdy EVs: 252 HP / 76 Atk / 80 Def / 100 SDef Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd) - Toxic Spikes - Stealth Rock - Gyro Ball - Rapid Spin Spinner. Very defensive, too. Toxic Spikes makes the opponent think twice about certain switches. Great, because it's a source of crowd control. I prefer Stealth Rock over Spikes as it damages everything, a lot of pokemon more than 1 layer of Spikes. Gyro Ball is a decent attack for Forretress, noting how slow it is. Rapid Spin makes it easier to swap Espeon and co. in and out as necessary. @ Expert Belt Trait: Download EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SAtk / 252 Spd Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def) - U-turn - Flamethrower - Ice Beam - Thunderbolt All-around special coverage. Genesect has quite the special prowess, but it's no slouch on the defensive side either. But that's not its purpose. The Beam Trio covers everything through Genesect's special attack, and U-turn when it's time to get out of there. It's so straightforward that I could have done it in ten words or less. Flamethrower, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt for special, U-turn for escape. There, done. You better not think that Prince psyched me out of giving you the exportable to make tests easier. First 5 battles: 1. 3-0 win vs. Explosms. 2. 5-0 loss vs. InsertNameHere-Test. 3. 6-0 win vs. Razin. 4. 1-0 loss vs. [ironfist]Blast. 5. 6-0 win vs. crep (won by forfeit) Have at it! Next time in the Monocolor series, we use a color that's cute, cuddly, and a pain to build a team around! Hello stall!
  2. So...I'm at Dragonspiral Tower, when I see a spot in the lake. I casually surf over on Samurott's back, and when I land a Pokemon, turns out it's a Level 70 Dragonite...the heck? Oh, and my entire team got ravaged except for Genesect.

Meh. And did I mention that there is a 1% chance of finding a Dragonite there?

  5. Nothing is stopping this train. Go ahead and make a yellow monocolor anyway, and we'll have a best of 3 to see who is better. How's that sound?
  6. Ryan C here. This is a cool team, but there's something that bugs me about this team. There's a possibility that you could end up U-turning for Amoonguss if it comes down to it. That is a place that you do not want to be stuck in at all. U-turn teams are built (for the most part) on speed, and Amoonguss will bring your team down a lot, especially if it doesn't know U-turn. You also have to be very careful, as it almost instantly drops if you send it out against a faster threat, such as PH Gliscor, Heatran, or any Dragon. You're much better off with something that's significantly faster like Victreebel or Lilligant, even if it can't get the 100 accuracy Spore. Turning to a faster Pokemon keeps the opponent from possibly getting two attacks on you before you can do anything. Hell, go with Jumpluff if you want. It can learn Sleep Powder AND U-turn, but it means you have two pokemon that are double-weak to Ice. I'm staring at a team that could work incredibly well in sunlight. Like, stupidly well in sunlight. You can transform this into a sun team with only one or two changes, notably the above and swapping Genesect for a Heat Rocker or Ninetales. Starmie, believe it or not, is actually a really good Water-type in Sun as it can pump out SolarBeams for coverage, as you might not want to run Scald. Scizor is actually a good counter to sand and ice teams as it has access to Bullet Punch and Superpower.
  7. Dropping this one on you guys if I haven't already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My0HQ0QkGLQ
  8. Battle #8 with Sigmund forthcoming. I fell flat last time. I'll approach this differently.

  9. I'm here to comment on your team, like you asked, but I will say the title should have been "GC and the Sunshine Team" as a reference to KC and the Sunshine Band. An idea would be to give Venusaur Synthesis. If I had to choose a move to replace, it would probably be Sludge Bomb. Here's why: Yache Berry would be a better option on Garchomp.
  10. Ryan C here. Team #3 has arrived, defying Owen himself! That up there was one of my favorite bands in my childhood. Hell, they still are. But that doesn't matter. They shine pretty bright in the spotlight, but this team shines just as bright - in the sunlight. (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Drought EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Flamethrower - Hidden Power [Fighting] - SolarBeam - Hypnosis Sun attacker and hypnotist. Ninetales is my favorite weather Pokemon, as sun has more uses than rain, and it's also faster than the other weather dudes. Flamethrower is the STAB move that gets bolstered to a whopping 285 base power by sun. Hidden Power [Fighting] is there to boldly take on sand teams if they get in the way. SolarBeam is a hard-hitting Special Grass attack that hits Ninetales' weaknesses really hard. Hypnosis is more useful on Ninetales than Politoed, as it works with its great Speed. Sun is mostly for its own benefit unless you guys come up with a good sun dude that fits in this team. @ Life Orb Trait: Victory Star EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - V-create - Fusion Bolt - Zen Headbutt - U-turn Abuse dat sun! Victini is the physical attacker that can make the best use of the sun. Although it isn't as fast as I had hoped, it still gets the job done with sheer overwhelming power that even makes Skarmory run for its life. Choosing physical attacks because that way it won't get walled by anything in OU that isn't boosted, it unleashes its vast movepool to do some damage. I hope I don't need to clarify the reason for V-create. Fusion Bolt provides an alternative for Jolteon. Zen Headbutt is the STAB that made me actually consider giving it a Razor Fang for the longest time. U-turn gets Victini the hell out of there, and hits hard against certain Pokemon. The Life Orb is there so Victini gets the most out of its power. (M) @ Leftovers / Lum Berry Trait: Sand Rush EVs: 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) - Rapid Spin - Stealth Rock - Bulldoze - Stone Edge Support spinner. On a sun team, a spinner is essential as the Fire-types will be hurting from Rocks and Spikes. Rapid Spin clears Stealth Rock and other stuff. It also keeps Ferrothorn from Leech Seeding it to death. Stealth Rock does some of the dirty work for it. If I need an immediate attack, Bulldoze is the way to go, as it lowers the opponent's Speed and may prompt a switch, making Stealth Rock useful. Stone Edge provides some excellent coverage with Earthquake, and has a high crit-hit to boot. The ability Sand Rush, while the alternative provides a fun hax factor, is ultimately better against sand should the opponent put it out, and if the opponent is running sand they will probably set up Stealth Rock sooner or later, so we can clear that out of the way. The item choice is a toss-up between Leftovers, which would give recovery, and Lum Berry, which prevents burns and poison from Toxic Spikes so Sandslash can healthily clear them off the field. Ononokusu () (M) @ Lum Berry Trait: Mold Breaker EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Outrage - Earthquake - Dragon Dance - Taunt Power attacker. I dunno, I thought his Japanese name is way cooler, even though they're both cool. Anyway, the good thing about running Haxorus in sun is that no one will use STAB Ice-type attacks against Haxorus if they know what's good for them. Onto the moves. Outrage is so heartlessly powerful that it can even OHKO Ferrothorn at +2. Earthquake is a coverage that also OHKOs Ferrothorn after a boost or two, but it's mostly serving as a coverage move. Dragon Dance is the boosting move that further boosts the sweeping potential of the mighty Tusk Dragon, and Taunt gives Haxorus a chance to wreck without allowing the opponent to prepare. The ability choice Mold Breaker removes Bronzong, one of Haxorus's main counters. That pretty much leaves Skarmory as the only true counter to Haoxrus. @ Life Orb Trait: Lightningrod EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Thunderbolt - Heat Wave - Hidden Power [ice] - Roost Special attacker that packs quite a punch. This is a sickeningly powerful Electric-Flying, capable of punishing almost anyone that dares defy Ninetales. The judgment would be Thunderbolt, at roughly 185 base power. Then there's Heat Wave, which packs 260 base under the sun and hit multiple targets in Doubles battles. Hidden Power [ice] should logically lose power in sun, but...you know...this is Pokemon. Roost helps Zapdos recover from th damage caused by the Life Orb it holds. (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Mummy EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Shadow Ball - Hidden Power [Fighting] - Calm Mind - Rest This team's wall, status absorber, etc. Cofagrigus is 5th gen's bulkiest Pokemon, even if it lacks a proper recovery move. This bulk gets pushed even further by Calm Mind, which turns Cofagrigus from a physical shield into a complete wall with offensive prowess, and trust me, that is very hard to get by without a phazer. Imagine this thing with a +6 Speed boost. It still wouldn't be very fast, but my god, a fast-moving coffin would scare the shit out of me. Anyway, the moves Calm Mind helps out are Shadow Ball, the STAB, and Hidden Power [Fighting], to make up for the lack of Fighting moves on the team. Cofagrigus might have only two recovery moves to rely on (Rest and Pain Split), but it's bulky enough to be a reliable user of Rest. Because, you know, I think it'd be kind of broken if it could learn something like Recover. Just saying. As always, I have included an exportable in the spoiler below. First 5 battles: 1. 5-0 loss vs. [AO]rupe. 2. 1-0 win in a contest of PP stalling with Hyrule' tst's Chansey and my Zapdos. 3. 1-0 loss vs. Alice.. 4. 6-0 win vs. crep (won by forfeit). 5. 1-0 win vs. Explosms. Have at it! And sorry Owen, had to. Next time on the monocolor series, we go to a color associated with the series' most annoying Pokemon!
  11. There is a lack of Ice-type moves, so I will take your suggestion with the HP Ice choice on Thundurus. The Ground option and lack of Ice moves were by-products of ditching Eviolite Fraxure and changing Politoed's set from a Choice Specs one. The reason that I chose Heat Wave for Xatu is because I needed the edge against Forretress, Skarmory ad other 4x weak Steels. I also didn't know Tornadus could learn Heat Wave, I assumed it couldn't. But either way, I need it. It also gives me options in other weathers if Politoed goes down. The reason Virizion has HP Electric is because...well...it's otherwise going to get walled by Skarmory. Stone Edge will not do enough to take down Skarmory at all, even if Virizion attacks at +6, barring a critical. I like that Stone Edge has a high crit-hit, but it's still too weak to not get wiped off by a Roost without a Swords Dance.

  16. Yes, the next monocolor is yellow. And I changed my Politoed set on you, sorry . Also, Toxicroak is blue, so I would have used it on my last team if I could have found a use for it. Disadvantages? I think there will be people who try to abuse the rain against me, but I might have them in check. If they take out Virizion, I might be in trouble, but aside from that I'm good to go.
  17. Ryan C here. Time for team #2! Yeah. What Kermit said. Anyway, here's the green team, and you could say it's green-powered as it is a rain team. Kermit () (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Drizzle EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) - Waterfall - Earthquake - Return - Belly Drum The weather frog who forever changed the meta. A completely different take on Politoed courtesy of Serebii, it's clearly not predicted, and it's not expected either. What most people will be bracing for is the Politoed that, you know, throws Hydro Pumps around, sends the occasional Encore or Ice Beam, tries to put you to sleep or finish you with Perish Song - you know, utility support Politoed. But things are different now that Politoed has Belly Drum, and that can scare opponents the hell out of there. Waterfall will obviously hit like a truck at +6. Earthquake and Return (both coverage moves) aren't that far behind on the power front. In fact, +6 Earthquake is so powerful that it 2HKOs Ferrothorn without a problem. Leftovers helps Politoed recover from beating the belly so it can possibly use it again. It looks like a bad idea, but it's an excellent counter of other weather Pokemon, especially Ninetales (obviously). Waldorf () @ Light Clay Trait: Heatproof EVs: 252 HP / 152 Atk / 20 Def / 80 SDef Relaxed Nature (+SDef, -Spd) - Reflect - Light Screen - Gyro Ball - Hypnosis NOTE: Bronzong as listed as green in the Pokedex. Support Steel. Reflect and Light Screen double the team's Defense and Special Defense in Singles, which provides lotsa bulk for the others. Gyro Ball is the most powerful attack Bronzong has, being STAB to boot. Hypnosis is unreliable, but hey, when you have the defenses Bronzong has, you might as well do it. The ability Heatproof is the part of the strategy that I thought I'd have fun with. SInce Levitate is so commonly run on Bronzong, this will instead shield against the Fire weakness when the opponent assumes that I'll run Levitate. It's mind games, it's fun, and it works. Statler () @ Lum Berry Trait: Justified EVs: 4 HP / 220 Atk / 32 SAtk / 252 Spd Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def) - Close Combat - Leaf Blade - Swords Dance - Hidden Power [Electric] Coverage sweeper and anti-weather weapon. Virizion is, in my opinion, leagues better than Breloom on the offensive department. It may not be as hard a hitter, but it's faster, much bulkier with that awesome Special Defense, and has a way better offensive movepool despite not. The idea is to chug along with those awesome coverage moves and Swords Dance whenever an opportunity arises to do so. Close Combat will be doing the most damage out of any of the moves, and the Defense and Special Defense drops it brings will be rather irrelevant due to its speed. Leaf Blade is the STAB that deals physical Grass damage, which is really useful against special walls. It also has a high crit-hit, which I love. The last move, Hidden Power [Electric], is all coverage, as otherwise it wouldn't deal too much damage to Gyarados, Skarmory, or a bunch of the other odd fliers out there like Sigilyph. The Lum Berry prevents the status from slowing it down, making it a viable weapon against Prankster Sableye. Beaker () (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Magic Bounce EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spd Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk) - Toxic - Psychic - Heat Wave => U-turn (Hyrule) - Roost Physically defensive status guy and hazard defender. Since there are no Green Spinners, the best you can do with this color is Bounce potential hazards back. Xatu got a couple of great moves from the move tutors, the most notable one being Heat Wave. It allows me to bounce back Skarmory's and Forretress's hazards and rock them with a super-effective attack. It might be 50 base, but it's better than nothing. The big thing this is meant to counter, however, is Fighting-types (note EVs and Nature). Psychic won't do too much, but normally it's enough to 2HKO most fighters in OU and BL. Toxic cripples some fighters, most notably Conkeldurr and L.O. Mienshao. Roost heals off the damage dealt by the power attacks. Elmo () (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Swift Swim EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Substitute - Leech Seed - Scald - Grass Knot Swift swimmer. Ah, Ludicolo...lo alegre con un sombrero. There's some flexible strategy to the Sombrero Warrior when he's got the most broken ability in 5th gen OU. I can either go with a Substitute if I think there's gonna be a switch or a status move. If I have a substitute up, that means it's Leech Seed time. The damage recovered with Leech Seed will counter the Life Orb damage upon attacking with Scald, its rain-boosted STAB, or Grass Knot as the other STAB that can take better care of things like Politoed. Big Bird () (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Regenerator EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Hurricane - Focus Blast => Heat Wave - Taunt - Hidden Power [Ground] => [ice] (Hyrule) Flier. The deal's simple: Hurricane because it hurts, Focus Blast for the Rocks, Ice-types, and Steels. Hidden Power [Ground] deals with all of the types that resist Hurricane. Taunt prevents people from setting up on this bird. Below is the exportable for testing. First 5 battles: (all standard OU unless otherwise stated) 1. 2-0 win vs. Aeirow (monocolor battle). 2. 5-0 loss vs. Fabian.. 3. 2-0 win vs. Also King. 4. 3-0 win vs. [ironfist]Eeveelover. 5. 2-0 loss vs. M.A.K.O.. Have at it. Next time on monocolor, we look on the bright side of life!
  18. I've heard about the Lum Berry a lot. Truth is, if it poses any threat, I'll know because it will be obvious due to the fact that they're under the pressure of having to do something before they get absolutely devastated. (I mean, why else would you throw a Sableye at it? Jolteon, perhaps?) Also, the Focus Sash has surprise factor and it allows me to get a free Attack and Speed boost before striking right back. Most of the time, whether I get paralyzed or burned, the Dragon Dances will help me through it. The nature...eh, it doesn't matter. Either or works. If I make it through to confusion, then chances are Outrage has already claimed a victim. I don't care, as it has served its purpose. The others can then pick up the slack.
  19. Black 2 is 0820 1604 5756. Added the previous two. I have more Pokemon on Black though. A lot more.

  22. I knew Batchu was going to sound off on this I can't use Bronzong. It's apparently...green. Sawk is a decent fighter that hits harder than most other blue Fighters. Its issue is that it's rather slow. The Thundurus set was...pretty odd, just thrown into a blender. I'll fix that.
