Ryan C here. In light of realizing that I didn't do a monocolor this weekend like I had planned (it was supposed to be black), I had decided to celebrate the coming of winter with this team.
I thought of this song, done by one of my favorite bands ever, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Cool winter song to sing along as you read this. Hehe...get it? Cool? Yeah, Roo the Baka would be proud.
(M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Snow Warning
EVs: 200 HP / 52 Atk / 172 Def / 84 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Wood Hammer
- Substitute => Swords Dance (Summer)
- Leech Seed => Ingrain (Summer)
Weather lead. What, you think I would name this team "All HAIL team #8a" for nothing? Anyhow, this set runs the SubSeed strategy and works with Abomasnow's decent defenses. Ice Shard is priority and bypasses Abomasnow's bad Speed, which leaves a bit to be desired. Have you ever seen Abomasnow's Wood Hammer? Heh heh heh heh...it hurts. Not even joking. It does a lot of damage. Substitute and Leech Seed work well together, especially in a lead spot where it might scare Tyranitar and Politoed away.
(F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 20 Atk / 236 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Claw
- Brick Break
- Dragon Dance
- Wish => Toxic (Wish is actually from Gen 3 and thus not compatible with Overcoat)
Bulky attacker. "Do you have a weather-resisting ability?" "Do you have an awesome defensive typing?" "Congratulations, you've made the team." This one has some unique commodities that set it apart from other Dragon-types, as defensive Dragons are pretty darn awesome. Dragon Clawis its STAB, and Brick Break hits everything the other fails to hit well for neutral damage or better. Dragon Dance allows me to focus more EVs on defensive stats.
(F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Snow Cloak
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Taunt
- Hail => Destiny Bond (Summer)
- Blizzard
- Shadow Ball
Utility sweeper. Froslass provides some kind of entry hazard setter while having some hax factor. Taunt stops stuff like Stealth Rock which can really ruin my day. Destiny Bond is a life-saver (how ironic). Blizzard works well with the Hail. Shadow Ball is the secondary STAB that punishes Espeon for stepping in Taunt's way.
(M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Super Luck / Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Sucker Punch
- Night Slash
- Superpower
- Megahorn
Scarfer. I wanted the Adamant Nature to unleash full power even though things like Jolteon will outspeed it even without the scarf. Hell with it. It's about the POWER!!!! Sucker Punch is STAB and helps guard against Absol's poor defenses. Night Slash is the main reason I considered Super Luck as an ability over Justified, but not the only reason. Superpower takes care of coverage woes. Megahorn is another way to deal serious damage, though without the drawbacks of Superpower. Back to the abilities, which I'm looking for your input on. Super Luck is a nice ability, and I'd rather have that on Absol as Night Slash is dangerous; however, it can become completely null sometimes because if you have no luck, you don't have super luck. Meanwhile, there's also the option of making Absol into a wanna be Muskedeer with Justified. Great ability for switching Absol in for Froslass, but most Dark-type attacks aimed at Froslass would probably be Pursuit. Well, sometimes I do get a Crunch or Dark Pulse thrown at me. But either way, it, like Super Luck, can come up flat, although Justified's more of a sure thing. I dunno. You guys tell me what I should do.
(M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Ice Body
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SAtk / 156 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Blizzard
- Autotomize
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Protect / Substitute
Sorta bulky sweeper. This Pokemon combines the heal factor of Ice Body with some prevalent overall stats and an okay movepool. Blizzard needs no explanation. Autotomize serves as a double purpose, but it will mainly be for the Speed boost. Hidden Power [Fighting] adds five to the list of types that Vanilluxe hits super-effective and gives it a more reliable option in other weathers. The last move is a toss-up which I am looking for some input on, but in either case it will be used to get an opportunity to heal Life Orb damage.
(M) @ Life Orb => Leftovers (mistake fixed)
Trait: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 44 Def / 212 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Drain Punch
- Swords Dance
- Will-O-Wisp
- Psycho Cut / Shadow Sneak
Offensive supporter. Gallade also gets resistances to help counter the fact that three Pokemon are weak to Fighting, and three are weak to Rock. is the STAB to counter the Life Orb damage. Swords Dance jumps on the defensive stat-ups, but I'll usually wait until I get a specially focused Pokemon or burn the opponent with Will-O-Wisp. I'm thinking about both Psycho Cut and Shadow Sneak. Which one should I choose?
Below is the importable.
