  1. It would be my pleasure to lend a hand with ideas and such, and I can perhaps help with character creation as well. Sadly, I lack any other useful skills, but I'll do what I can :3
  2. Alright, it appears that Kalos is next up 5. Viviliion. The not-so-demonic butterfly was a poor Butterfree to me at first. That's not to say I disliked it, but this insect just didn't do it for me at first. However, things started to stack in its favour, including: the regional wing patters (Reborn's is amazing, may I add), good moveset, and actual usability. I managed to keep one on my X team for a while, and did the same in Desolation. Flutter saved me a lot early on, in both games. 4. Goomy. I didn't jump on the bandwagon, the bandwagon stopped and pulled me on! I didn't think too much of Goomy at first, but it just started to grow on me. Plus, all the Goomy merch on Pokémon Centre is/was so fun and cute. Resistance was futile after that... 3. Braixen. After I saw this awesome fox witch, I was convinced I'd be starting with Fennekin. The idea was just so cool, and they pulled the look off just right (plus, that wand in the tail = genius). If only I could say the same for Delphox (spoiler, I REALLY dislike Delphox). 2. Boweon. I detested Eevee's fairy evolution when it was first revealed. I really didn't like how they made it so "girly", and I wasn't feeling the feelers. However, as I needed a fairy type in X, and Eevee was right there, I opted to give it a shot. Boweon did not disappoint, despite having a poor nature. Let's just say my opinion changed rather quickly, and it now ranks among my favourite Eeveelutions. I must admit, I do find it adorable now as well, but Boweon's strengh is was really shines in my eyes. 1. Espurr's line. It's cute. It's creepyish. It's a kitten. It's none other than the grey kitty: Espurr. I've always been of a fan of this Pokémon's design, typing, and mid-game potential. Sadly, its line falls behind later on, though Prankster Meowstic does have a niche for itself. I really wish these guys had better stats/a third evo, but I <3 them all the same. Honestly, behind Eevee and select Eeveelutions, Espurr is ranks second in terms of my all time favourites. As a bonus, I find its cry adorable. And, as a double bonus, I managed to get a shiny male Espurr in Reborn. He had a neutral nature and good IVs. I was a very happy camper, and I may or may not have squee'd... Best Leggie: Xereas. This colourful fairy deer is probably my favourite legendary Pokémon to date. I associate myself with deer, I really like fairy-types, and I do find it has an elegant design. And, if that wasn't enough, Xenreas has an epic association; life. May I also add it pwns shite, and pwns them hard. Honourable mentions: Chespin. My favourite base form of the Kalos starters, and the Pokémon I used in my first run of the region. I was very pleased with the experience, and had a lot of fun trolling with Spiky Shield when Rozenn became a Chesnaught. Greninja. Protean + being a ninja. Need I say more? Litleo/Pyroar. Fire lions! I only wish they had better typing and stats... Fletchling. Robins are among my favourite birds, and this guy is so lovable. Plus, it becomes the once feared Talonflame, which boasted a solid typing and Gale Wings. RIP, fearsome blaze bird.
  3. Greninja - M - Takeru Pachirisu - F - Autumn Meowstic - M - Sol Donphan - F - Tierra Growlithe - F - Loyalty Roselia - F - Rhosyn If this run has taught me anything, it's Do. NOT. Underestimate. Pachirisu. Autumn has saved me so many freaking times, and is the sole reason I won certain important battles (like Shade). Nuzzle+Sweet Kiss+Charm is deadly. I've also come to appreciate the blessings of Prankster Meowstic, and it pairs well with the aforementioned squirrel of deth. I this isn't the greatest team, but its managed to pull its weight thus far. I think one of the joys of playing such a hard game is how much it makes you appreciate your Pokémon and their unique skills. Like squirrel of deth.
  4. Let's see... 1. Always giving my teammates nicknames and personalities based on their Natures and IV quirk thingy. 2. Avoiding having my team be all of one gender. It just feels weird. 3. Never releasing Pokémon. I did so once and felt so horrible... 4. Trying to work an Eeveelution into my team whenever possible. Doesn't really matter which, as long as there's one. 5. Avoiding type overlaps. It just bugs me for some reason, so I try and minimize this from happening. 6. Planning my team ahead of time (although far less so with fangames). 7. Trying to avoid having a Pokémon faint. In the main series, I'll even "rescue" a Pokémon that's about to faint, even if it puts me at a disadvantage. Harder fangames are far less forgiving, so I don't rescue as much, but I still feel bad when a teammate goes down. I'm less "I MUST FOLLOW DESE RULEZ ALWAYZ" and often just try and follow these points. Except for the the first, third, fourth, and last; I'm very adamant about those.
  5. I like to break things up, so I'll start with Kanto: 5. Persian: I've always loved cats, so a sleek and elegant kitty was bound to appeal to me. Its personality isn't very favourable, but that's what nurture over nature is for, assuming it works on Pokémon (considering we've seen species, like that evil Togepi, act "out of character", I'm inclined to believe it does). I also remember using on in the original Pokémon Stadium, and with the mechanics of the first gen, it wrecked things. That speed + Slash always landing crits was quite powerful back in the day. Needless to say, I liked using it. 4. Seel: This guy literally came out of nowhere last summer and became one of my favourites. I always liked it, but playing Go really helped the seal go up in my rankings. Plus, I started liking the actual animal more and more, which reflected well on Seel. I just wish its line was more usable, and Dewgong really does deserve a Mega. Maybe one day... 3. Butterfree: Butterfree was my favourite Pokémon for a spell when I was younger, and I really like the purple butterfly to this day. I made sure to get its plush, back in the retro days. I also remember my dad buying me a Butterfree card one Friday in the 3rd grade, as a random surprise. I was so happy, and still have the card to this day. 2. Vulpix's line: I've had a soft spot for foxes for a long time, so that helped these two stand out. I like their lore, their being able to learn some ghost attacks, their fluffiness, their types (fire can be a hard time to fill for me), their grace, and of course, their epicness. I remember forming a team of Vulpix one time in Silver, trying to train them up was a nightmare, haha. I also had a toy Vulpix that would "talk", but its tails fell off, leaving me quite sad. I think I still have the body, haha. 1. EEVEE!: No surprise here, this fluffy fox-feline creature is my #1. I used to think its legs were all attached together because of the way it was depicted in the early official art, and I was a happy camper when I was proven wrong by the anime. My mom ended up getting me the VHS with the Eevee bros. eppy on it, and I re-watched it so many times, haha. I also have a bunch of Eevee merch, from a shirt, to plushies, to water bottles. One of the things I really like about this Pokémon is that, because of its many evolutions, it can fit on almost any team. Good ol' reliable Eevee! Honourable mentions go to: Squirtle: My go to Kanto starter, there's no beating my Shelby! I even got a crocheted Squirtle to celebrate my starter in Go. Clefairy/Clefable: I've always like this one, and getting the fairy typing only made it better! I always like to picture Leaf with one, as it was supposed to be the mascot. In another world, maybe. Oddish: It's cute, and I like it a fair bit, but the main reason it makes this list is because of an in-joke my bf and I have. Basically, an event led us to calling Yokomon "Pink Oooodish", and it's become one of our favourite "I dunno what to say now, so I'll say this" lines. Note that I purposefully excluded the Eeveelutions, who would have hogged the third (Vappy), fourth (Flare), and fifth (Jolt) spots. I wanted to make this a bit more diverse then that cx
  6. I can't really pick just one, so I'll just provide a list. I did limit myself to 3 from each franchise, just to really force myself to pick my absolute favs Everyone from Persona 5. Makoto, Yusuke, and Futaba from Persona 5 Axel from Kingdom Hearts Lucina and Robin from Fire Emblem Awakening Felicia from Fire Emblem Fates Dylas from Rune Factory 4 Hunter from Spyro Sheena from Tales of Symphonia Lillie, Cynthia, and Wally from Pokémon (that third one does change from time to time) Ugh, that was hard. I also didn't include silent protags, as the nature of their character is rather dependent on the player. I feel I should give honourable mentions to Hifumi from Persona 5 (as she is my favourite non-main character), Tiki from Awakening (I don't know enough about her character in the previous games), Gladion from Pokémon (I'm rather curious as to how he'll be in USM), and Demyx from Kingdom Hearts (I prefer his character in the manga, hence why I didn't include him here). I'll go for a bonus round and include fan-game characters as well: Ava and Tristan from Desolation Venam and Melia from Rejuv Shelly, Amaria, and Cain from Reborn And, there.
  7. OOOh, I can totally see potential in this idea; there's just so much you can do. Having a pyramid, sphinx-like figure (as either a monument or Pokémon), tomb (the non-pyramid kind), oasis, major river, important library (akin to the Library of Alexandria), ruins, vast markets, there's so many possibilities. Having such a vast history, you can draw upon a number of different influences, and it still works (such as mixing the Library of Alexandria with the Sphinx). This also brings many options for Pokémon. I can see a cat-legendary, as felines were scared and Bast is an important deity. If you go the route of making the Sphinx into a Pokémon, having it be a pseudo-leggie might be a good route. Also, having a water-based hippo and a ground camel might be two options, as well as a scarab. I'm getting too hyped cx And instead of braille, you could use a type of Hieroglyph, and have a Rosetta Stone-like monument to help decode. Or have Alola Pokémonish regional variant on Unown, and they could be Hieroglyphs. Okay, I'll stop now, haha. Needless to say, I'd be interested in helping with ideas! And, like Nyarth, having romance options would be awesome. If possible, having options to bond with some of the major NPCs, even platonic, would be nice. Perhaps like relationship scores, which could in-turn influence certain events? Now, I'll really stop this time.
  8. I think my new best accomplishment is beating him on my first go, without losing a single team member, despite the corrosive field being up. I do have a Meowstic and Donphan though, so I know that helped a lot. Shelly will probably slap me though cx
  9. Hmm, let's see... Watching cartoons on Teletoon, Family Channel, and YTV: These channels were my go-tos as a kid, and thinking about certain shows really brings me back. Examples include: Recess, What's With Andy? (shout out to the eppy where everyone in town goes on vacation and Andy goes into prank-deprivation mode), What About Mimi?, Hey Arnold!, PowerPuff Girls, Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers, Looney Toons shorts (notably the episode were Sylvester tries to quit hunting Tweety and goes nuts) , The Amanda Show (Judge Trudy ftw), Dave the Barbarian, Goof Troop, House of Mouse... The Aristocats, Charlotte's Web, and 101 Dalmatians: These were probably my favourite movies during my early childhood, with the first standing out (I adore cats, so this title was an instant #1). I wore my copies of these VHS cassettes right down, to the point where I broke my copy of Charlotte's Web. I was distraught, and my parents bought a replacement within hours of the tragedy. Swings: I spent many an hour trying to touch the sky, going faster and faster. Still enjoy a good swing to this day. Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot for PS1: These games were my life for a little while, especially Spyro. In fact, Ripto's Rage was the first game I ever 100% completed, which was a huge accomplishment for me. I used to go around the worlds making up stories about them and such, just letting my imagination go free... That Mario/Duck Hunt NES cartridge: Never beat Mario, and went right up to the TV with my gun in Duck Hunt. And yes, my 4/5-year old self got annoyed and tried to shoot the dog after it laughed at me too much... Playing with action figures and making up stories: I did this a lot with my brother. We came up with some really interesting, and sometimes twisted, stuff. Drawing, without worrying about making everything look good: I used to adore drawing and doodling, until I started wanting to get "talented", making it get really stressful. Beatrix Potter's tales: My grandma and I used to do silent reading before bed when I slept over, and these stories are the ones I remember best from that time. I never finished the last tale, and it bugs me to this day. Too bad that version of Potter's collected works is out of print... Baking with grandma: My grandmother was a huge part of my childhood, and baking with her was always a treat. And of course, Pokémon. I didn't actually get into Pokémon right away, being a 1st grade hipster and disliking the hype. However, once I actually was convinced to give the series a try... ... let's just say I really liked it. Butterfree was my favourite Pokémon for a notable spell, and because of the official art at the time, I used to think Eevee's legs were all stuck together. Good times. I would say Digimon, but I didn't get into it until I was a bit older. I guess it could still count though, I think I was a tween when I first watched it. Annnnnd, I wrote a word wall. Geez...
  10. Thank-you so much for the warm wishes everyone! Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I went on a mini-holiday to finish off the long weekend. @Wolfox: I lol'd @Brakk: Haha, that was a good tarot you drew indeed. Instant results are always nice cx
  11. I've used a few during my experience playing fangames. The first was Horsea in Omicron, and Storm proved himself and then some. Kingdra has a nice typing, which is helped even more by the older mechanics used ingame (as stated by Yagami). I also used Larvesta in Alabaster, and if I remember correctly, it was doing pretty well up to the point I was at. I really need to start playing that one again... If the Delta Bulbasaur in Insurgence counts, then I can claim that as well. Alora proved herself to be a powerful, reliable, and versatile Pokémon (what more can you ask for in a starter?). Gotta love that typing, too. Despite all these rather positive experiences, I'd have to say my favourite oddball starter is Espurr from Desolation. I should have opted for a male, and checked IVs before committing, but I still really enjoyed using the psychic cat. She did start falling behind towards the end of Ep. 4, and Gardevoir is more dependable now, but I keep Luna trained and ready for action. She does a good job taking over when I switch out a Pokémon that's weak against an upcoming boss/gym/area. I'm hugely biased, as Espurr is among my favourites, and getting to use one of your top Pokémon as a starter is golden. If I do ever replay the game, I'll likely get a male and make sure both his nature AND IVs are at least passable. I think that's all *goes off trying to remember if she missed one*...
  12. I'm only two badges in, but I think beating both leaders on my first shot was pretty good. I did only win with one Pokémon with minimal HP each time, but that 7HP was the different between victory and loss. I doubt I'll continue my streak, but it's fun while it lasts. Also, PWNing those steel gears of sadness with a team of 4 members, all with a 12ish level shortfall (and no fire type). I was so proud of those guys when we pulled through!
  13. This is one of the few "what's your favourite" question that I can actually give a solid answer for: Eevee. Straight up, that adorable fox/cat creature is the best, hands down.I mean, just look at it... Besides its cute looks, the idea behind it is also really neat and unique. Being able to evolve into so many forms with different types and stat distribution means it has a home on almost every team. What's not to love? However, I really feel like I ought to mention a few other "top" Pokémon: Glaceon: My fav Eeveelution, so graceful, elegant, and cool. Leafeon/Boweon: Other Eeveelutions that stand out for me, but I love them all, really. Espurr: Super cute, bit creepy, interesting evolution, kitten-based... Espurr is my number two, baring certain Eeveelutions Gardevoir: Grace, power, loyalty, Gardevoir's got it all Piplup's line: Penguins are awesome, Piplup is cute, Empoleon has the power + good typing. This is my favourite starter set, and Piplup is my "one true starter"; the one I'd pick over all other classic starters. Vulpix/Alola Vulpix line: The classic Vulpix line represent my favourite fire types, and I find it cool that they can learn some ghostly moves, making for some interesting depth. On the other hand, Alolan Vulpix's line basically combined my two preferred types, made them adorable, and then gave them a sprinkle of cool folklore. Plus, foxes. Love 'em both! Snivy: Smugleaf, yo! Primarina: FAIRY SEAL MERMAID SINGER! Probably missing a few, but yeah
  14. Hmm, let's see... Misty, because, she's freaking Misty. She's still my favourite character from the anime, and her team is actually pretty tough when you face her (depending on your team and the amount of grinding you did, of course). I also like her fiery personality and tomboy attitude. Jasmine has also been one of my favourite gym leaders for ages. I was drawn to her shy personality and simple design, and now that I'm older, I can also appreciate the compassionate nature of her character. The fact that she gives you such a quest also helps give her importance in the story and makes her more memorable (for me, anyway). Speaking of old favourites, I also need to give Winona a mention. My 2004-self liked her demeanor, gracefulness, and design. Plus, Fortree being so unique helped make its gym leader stand out as well. Cynthia. Need I say more? Okay, she's a freaking kickbutt champion (the first female, I may add) with notable story importance and a great design. That's all that needs to be said, really. Lillie's character arc was something I really liked in S/M, focusing on an NPC's development so extensively is a rarity for the franchise, which made Lillie stand out among the other supporting cast. It really does feel like you're going through the journey together. I also liked her ties with Cosmog and her personality in general. She's adorable! I was crushed when the spoiler happened at the end. Bianca is similar to Lillie, but with far less focus. That doesn't mean she's any less of a character though, and I enjoyed the angle they took with her role in the story. Too bad we couldn't tell her she was actually pretty good at battling! I liked Yancy's unique role in BW2, and just her design and personality in general. Plus, I have a habit of shipping, and she ended up being my pair for Nate pretty quick, haha. Marley from DPP is another favourite of mine. I feel like I'm repeating myself now, but I like her design and character. She was also a part of a quest, which gives her some additional screentime (which is always awesome when it comes to Marley). I'll add two more later cx
  15. Commander mentioned Persona 3, and I have to second the notion of playing a Persona game. I've never played 3 or 4, but I can vouch for the 5th entry in the series. It's a masterpiece of stakes escalation, social commentary, and balancing being dark and humorous at the same time. There's also a good mix of gameplay; you do missions (which require stealth, combat, and a bit of puzzle solving), build relationships with characters (which does have combat and story perks), and develop skills. Juggling between these three things is a big part of them game, which prevents it from getting tedious, even after a marathon session. Plus, I really loved the characters and their development. And the story is something to behold, trust me. But yeah... that's about it really.
  16. I just wanted to say how incredible this game is and how much I've enjoyed playing through Ep. 4. Espurr as a starter was what lured me in, but the game itself is the true hook. It's probably my favourite fangame to date, so I'm very happy to hear it's still going. As others have said though, well wishes for your real life, and hoping things are going positively. I also second what Virtue said, the characters are top notch! Ava is probably my fav, I liked her in basically every scene she was in, and tend to agree with her opinions. I'm a also a fan of nice guy types, so Tristan is also among my favs.
  17. My crew, which has been effective overall. I'm a bit shocked that Gemma and Bun are still going strong, but they're both winning battles and kicking butt, which is quite nice (since I like them a lot). I've also really grown to like Alola Muk and Vikavolt, those two are stellar (even despite the former having a hindering nature). Melody is great too, but her movepool is a little lacking atm, which does limit her versatility somewhat. And, oddly enough, Yogi is the only under-performer, though I suspect this has to do with his moves. May end up swapping him out if things don't change... But yeah, really liking my team so far!
  18. Congrats! Oh wait, it's just me; nevermind! *clears throat* Anyway, hiya! I'm Star Arcana, as you've surely already noticed. The name is a bit of a mouthful, however, so Starcana and Jaye make decent substitutes, though I'm not picky on nicknames. But what brings a tarot card to the Reborn forum? Well, truth is, its been spying following topics on the site for a fair while now (p.s. don't ask how long that is). I decided to finally join up after actually playing Reborn, Rejuv, and Desolation; to hang out and talk about the games (efforts to get friends into them have failed; I'm clearly not cut out to be a salesperson). I was greatly moved by the characters, events, challenge, and depth of the stories I discovered, and I'm still hooked on all three games. I really like fangames, because they go beyond the series' norms and provide me with all sorts of new experiences, which does a lot to keep my love of Pokémon alive. The creativity the franchise generates from its fans is mindblowing, and the talent displayed here is incredible. The word "awesome" does these games and developers no justice. So, yeah, I guess I should give a little more information about myself then and stop fangasming over epicness. Well, I'm a twenty-something year old library technician living in the vast prairies of Maple Country (aka Canada). As my profession may indicate, reading is important to me, and I will likely generate a word wall if asked about books/literacy. In terms of genres, I'm a big fan of fantasy (high, low, urban, you name it), light mysteries, and creative non-fiction. This also tends to spill over into my taste in games, my favourites include; Persona 5, Rune Factory 4, Fire Emblem Awakening (and Fates), Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons (though more a slice of life, it does have a few fantastical elements), Kingdom Hearts Days, Stardew Valley, ect. I also enjoy Digimon, and obviously, Pokémon. Other hobbies of mine consist of... trying to write stuff? I dunno, I have ideas, but can never seem to pen them down. Maybe someday ^^; But yeah, before I turn this into a drag if I haven't already I'll end off here. See y'all around!
