Poison Monotype run of Reborn (Latest Defeated Leader: Amaria)
Jess replied to Jess's topic in Team Showcase
CHAPTER 19: Love and Sorrow Well, after the (quite weird) events in Titania's Gym, we fly off to Fiore Mansion in order to protect Amaria. Titania somehow reaches the place before me (still no clue how her Skarmory flied faster than my Crobat) and even had time to fight with Amaria and send her swimming in the deep chambers of her maze-Gym! So, I had to go find her, thrice, and convince her to battle me. My badges are important, God damn it! I am the Champion-to-be (by Adrienn's vote)! After I find her, she returns to the arena, talks with Titania, who will (as always) stay and protect her (because, as she proved vs Solaris, Amaria needs protection...). Honestly, I think Titania has superiority complex and thinks people can't survive without her POWAH, and Amaria has inferiority complex and thinks she is weak, while she isn't. Whatever, this situation is stupid and I want out ASAP. VS AMARIA So, I defeated Amaria in both formats (Singles and Doubles), just out of curiosity to see how her team changed between community release (where I played my Bug mono), and public release (where I faced her in my Poison mono). The winning tries start in the following video: Singles: At 11:30 Doubles: At 24:25 The team I chose to face Amaria (in both formats) was the following: Overall, the singles battle took two tries (I used Elemental Seeds in my first try and then poisoned the field with Sludge Waves. This turned my 'mons in pure Water types and badly poisoned them. Oops?) and it ended up as a battle between me and Amaria's efforts to counter my Sludge Wave tactic of poisoning the water with Swampert's Whirlpool. The held items I used were also a bit ambiguous, since I hadn't noticed I had 2 more Black Sludges held by 'mons in PC to give to Tentacruel and Qwilfish (second oops?). Thank God I had Intimidate on Nereus the Qwilfish to weaken Swampert and insane bulk with Oceanus the Dragalge, Charybdis the Tentacruel and Medea the Muk. I didn't even have to bring in Muk and Crobat in the singles battle, but in the Doubles I actually used all my 'mons. The Double battle took also 2 tries, since I didn't take under consideration that Sludge Wave gains Water typing in Murkwater field, so I ended up healing Vaporeon and Seismitoad due to their Water Absorb (third oops?). I guess I was quite sleepy when I was playing! But anyways, second try went smoothly! By the way, I still don't know why all non-poison 'mons didn't get badly poisoned as soon as they entered the field and only did when they turned into pure water types by an Elemental Seed, so feel free to enlighten me! VIDEO BATTLE COVERAGE COMMENCE! With that, I earned my 16th Badge, the Torrent Badge, and the TM for Scald! Also, Rock Climb is now enabled outside of battle, but not until E18 (damn)... After that, Amaria vanishes again, Titania whines for her fate, as Julitania (Julia imitating Titania) states quite elaborately (THANK YOU JULIA!!!) and we Fly to Calcenon after Julia's instruction to go blow stuff up with our Weezing. I do believe that this is the appropriate strategy now. I'm quite tilted! Anyways, as always, feel free to comment, (positively or negatively). I love feedback! And, since this is the end of E17 material, we will pick this up again when E18 is released. Till then, enjoy everyone!- 461 replies

Everyone votes with different criteria. Others the strongest, others the most appealing (to their eyes). There isn't a right/wrong way of thinking -

Personally, competitive ability doesn't matter at all. I vote solely based on how well-thought and well-designed a 'mon is (in my opinion). Overrated/too strong Pokemon tend to not be very liked by me though, just because of the "overhype" factor... -

Weirdly enough, that's why it's named like this! Tepid (warm) + pig Can't agree more. Greninja is supposed to transform into Ash-Gren due to an extremely strong bond with its trainer (story-wise). So, if my Greninja bonds a lot with me, it won't turn into me (the respective selected main character form), but into fucking Ash Ketchum. Fuck logic. -

I don't get the comparison. Wooper and Quagsire rock, for the same reason Bibarel rocks. Derpy faces are so cute! Also, Vileplume is awesome. It has never let me down! -
Vileplume has Effect Spore too, though... Edit: It doesn't learn Spore though. You're right. I thought it did for some reason.

By the way, Vileplume is a rafflesia arnoldii too, so Venusaur's design isn't that unique. It's amazing, but not unique. Edit: Pasting the updated standings, since page changed and we buried it again... Bulbasaur: 25 Charmander: 12 Squirtle: 12 Cyndaquil: 23 Totodile: 20 Treecko: 18 Torchic: 15 Mudkip: 26 Turtwig: 21 Chimchar: 20 Piplup: 20 Snivy: 19 Tepig: 16 Oshawott: 18 Chespin: 18 Fennekin: 19 Froakie: 20 Rowlet: 20 Litten: 18 Popplio: 16 -

@walpurgis Now that's something I had learned in biology ages ago, but never made the connection! Thank you for that! Also, nerds are cute and lovely, join the nerd army @Thundermaze You misunderstood me, I didn't talk bad about Venusaur by comparing it with Meganium. I was trying to emphasize why I love Meganium, comparing it with Venusaur, which is one of my favourite starters. -

@HAWmaro I agree about the antenna, it should've gained a larger leaf scythe IMO, but the design is quite consistent in my eyes. BTW, I don't think it's unreasonable to like the first or second evolution stage and not to like the final, I'm same with the Torchic line. Love Torchic, adore Combusken, can't even understand what they had in mind when they designed Blaziken. -

RIP Chikorita... @HAWmaro I think the Chikorita line's design is equally consistent with Bulbasaur's line. Similar bodytypes throughout the line, bulbs/leaves turn into petals to indicate maturity/blooming and the proper size increment... Dunno on which criteria you consider the one consistent and the other not... -

@NickCrash @Chim I tried to write a wall text to reply, but I won't bother, since we're gonna just re-iterate our opinions and miss the point! I just hope I didn't ruin the fun of you people. Regardless, I still think that the game was supposed to be played in a kind of an "underground" way. Secret alliances, focusing, heavy strategy. It is more entertaining this way and more "adventurous" to watch. Now, some people prefer it to be relaxed and "pure/honest". There isn't a way to keep both sides satisfied. And we can't ban anyone from participating just because we don't like his/her/xyr playstyle. That's because, like it, or not, strategic wasn't banned. And there really isn't a way to ban it. Sadly. I'll just play "clean" in the starter 'mon heal/hurt. I might've gotten a bit too passionate about the type heal/hurt. @Chim If you think you can judge what someone character is like, just from one argument you had with that person, you are wrong. You really don't even know 1% of me. I can take not being liked by someone though, it makes sense, I don't like people too. But, your first impression about me was a chat I had with Hycrox and I think ended up in good terms, even if it got salty/heated. I'm hot tempered, big deal, many people are. But you can't judge me over something without examining how it ended. As for my "false" accusations. I didn't "accuse" anyone directly. I said that it's highly likely (probable I'd say) that there have been other underground talks too. I can't prove it, but I didn't target anyone personally. So, what is the problem with speaking out what I think happened? Anyways, we don't like each other, big deal, who cares.

I fucking adore Meganium by the way. And Bayleaf. The whole line. If I manage to upvote it once tomorrow, before it goes down, I will die inside happily be happy. You people are trying to kill these two... And, since we buried it, current standings are: Bulbasaur: 22 Charmander: 16 Squirtle: 17 Chikorita: 6 Cyndaquil: 24 Totodile: 22 Treecko: 21 Torchic: 21 Mudkip: 23 Turtwig: 20 Chimchar: 20 Piplup: 19 Snivy: 20 Tepig: 16 Oshawott: 20 Chespin: 18 Fennekin: 20 Froakie: 19 Rowlet: 18 Litten: 18 Popplio: 19 -

Correct standings list is: Please guys, update the list when you vote, don't just state which one you heal and which one you hurt... Also, it's +1 heal, -2 hurt. Do the math, lazybones! @Thundermaze These games tend to get a bit intense. I, for once, won't play any strategy on this, since I don't want this to end up like the previous one, with salt everywhere. Also, I pretty much like most starters. -

Well... I consider Serperior's cry (and the general Snivy line smugface) to be annoying... I also love Totodile with a passion, so...
