The Art of Disagreeing: Repect Even in Hostility
Halloween replied to Shamitako's topic in General Discussion
several of the points raised, both in the original post and in the comments, they vary with the nature of the argument, no? even if we're speaking about daily conversations, there's: a) we're talking about whenever we should have pizza or sushi for dinner. the conversation must reach a conclusion, either somebody wins, or we compromise with thai food. personal experiences/emotional arguments (i think, this happened, i feel) have a high value. we're arguing about whenever character A-san or B-san is superior. winning is unimportant (nobody expects the other to go "OH i understand now! oh man my taste has been shit up until now"), and personal experiences/emotional arguments still have a high value. c) i'm trying to convince you that santa claus is totes real. personal experiences/emotional arguments have relatively low value 'cause you aren't buying "but i saaww him in the mall", and as in b, the goal is progression rather than winning. d) we're developing a project, and have to limit ourselves to one idea. somebody has to win, and what anybody personally feels is irrelevant to whenever it's the idea that is the most feasible. e) sander vs trump. nobody's going to win, but emotional arguments still doesn't matter shit, and the point is just to make an as massive fact dump disproving each others arguments as possible. and i'm getting the impression that this thread is about friendly arguments about differing opinions - emotional debates -, not about situations where the goal is to prove the other part wrong - such as, political debates, right? in that case, i've actually gone a course that relates at least to discussion, so susan a. weelan, author of a fucking shitton of really boring teambuilding books, would (probably) wanna add that "yes, and–" is a great thing to build a discussion on. she had to lot to say about feedback, would that be a good thing to get into here, or are we purely talking arguments? and i agree with you! not necessarily here, but on the internet overall i see what you're talking about - an unnecessary anger in inconsequential discussions -

the sad thing is i actually thought it'd work, like i went in there and individually painted all every edge and was all "ok let's fucking do this" and... no

zumi, as saying this would earn me a blank stare where i live, i appreciate that you are one of the few chosen ones that could shudder involuntarily at phrases like "uv mapping", "add a joint", "noisy render" and "shit, it's 2am?"

From a comment suggestion... name your spirit Pokemon
Halloween replied to a topic in Pokémon Fan Club
¡ay, caramba! no honestly i was looking for pokémon with the own tempo ability 'cause the japanese expression "my pace" applies to me on an astral level and heeey i do like to dance. i even took poledancing classes once sshh don't tell anyone. i think i'd have pretty shitty ivs aside from hp, but a high level... i'm pretty bad at, well, most stuff? i'm not talented, but i make up for it by being incredibly persistent, haha. things usually just kinda work out for me. so 30/2/12/17/0/5, my sp. def is shit as a glorious reflection of my mentality, but sp. att is almost ok? i guess as for attacks i'd def have return. be nice to me and i will be obnoxious to you love you forever. teether dance which makes everyone confused about their sexuality, swagger 'cause me, and i wanna say that the last one is attract but if i didn't have at least one illegal move it's not really me so, play rough ♥ sassy nature -
not particularly; whatever i've put the most effort into grinding up tends to be my current fave, but there's no pokémon i wouldn't box if something better came up, like leonardo dicaprio and victoria's secret models viri's goddamn magnezone thou i almost regret once asking about it

Viridescent's Wandering Art Thread [Art: Drawing/Feedback]
Halloween replied to Ironbound's topic in Creative Works
i had decided that my 100th entry would be in the what do you look like thread but after stalling for three days... nah. hang out in viri's sweaty art thread. it's like celebrating christmas at ikea. i always approve to 86-98.7% of your drawings and the rest is just looking for faults because my mother taught me that if you can say something nice you can shit all over it just as well Aah, I feel like this is one of those drawings that would blow my mind if I saw it irl, and scanned, it, well, still kinda blows my mind, but the full epicness and the difference in textures doesn't get conveyed. i can't believe that you make so few mistakes in fucking INK. that's truly a mechanical precision you've got, like brahms reborn with an ink pen and a less epic mustache. but you do have a fucking thing for, idk, trying to show things in their entire glory instead of just putting them behind other things - usually it's the tails, but going back, yeah, almost always the wings too. imagine having something growing out from your shoulderblade. then imagine twisting it so that it points directly in front of you. 'cause that's the fucking 180 charizard's wing is doing. if the other wing was doing it too i might have brought it, or if his torso was twisted more to the front but on the topic of wings hooolllyy shiiieet the texture of the wings is sooo good. it looks leathery, but the tears look just like the tears in feathers. in 2142 critics will find this and argue about whenever charizard's wings have barbs or not. it's just that great. i'm loving it™ i like his bigass palm too, because it really looks like an incredibly creepy human palm. the claws, on the other hand - they're so big that they mess with the perspective, you feel me? like, it feels like they're much closer to the viewer 'cause they're the fucking size of california. there's some other anatomical errors, but i feel like it's stuff you're probably aware of and haven't fixed 'cause fucking ink but. deep breath. the back of his torso looks like it's twirling, due to the tail root being visible. the front does not look like it's twisted. his front leg seems flat from the angle he's holding it - it looks too wide close to his stomach to have much volume. from the position of his front leg in relation to the tail, it looks like we should see the sole of his foot, like we're doing, but in relation to the position of his other leg, it looks like we should see the top of it. one of his arms looks a lot longer than the other. his face is in almost perfect profile; and yet the back horns stick up a lot above the front one. and then dragonair! you're right, the texture is reaaally good, brings me straight back to when i was eel-fishing with my grandpa and trying to literally wrestle them eels with my bare hands; not to much success. His entire face, too, is great, and i love the thickness gradient. if anything it's the pose, but i can't tell if he's floating or not and my criticism would vary depending on that, soo... whatever. he's pretty much perf anyway. the angle of the horn is satisfying in a way i can't explain; like peeling of glue from fingers. and i love the fire.- 257 replies

Pokemon Reborn Playlist (Possible Spoilers)
Halloween replied to AndrewErblak's topic in General Discussion
I've always related Aya and Cain to I trani di Tozeur... which i'm sure y'all would appreciate if you're 43 year old Italian bored housewives and that's it. and then modest mouse's We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank album. All of it, even the 30 seconds random noise interludes. and not just because i wanted to include something not an eurovision song contest entry from the 80's, in italian either. -

oouch i need a burn heal viri, that was straight up condescending. it's cute c'mon. i might even do a ground monorun at some point, so many ground mons that i like, the only problem is that i think i might have to commit seppuku if i lost to fern. but not before my ariados monorun ofc. ariados and cubone. i'm actually considering doing a halloween run on hardcore. you'd weep at mi teamo didn't know superpower was a special move, welp. i have a tendency to assume that fighting moves minus aura sphere are all physical. anyway i really like puzzle games so my sp. def is cursed in general, i don't think a single one of my mons has a decent one. that and speed. i did the right thing with blake. i gave it to him at first by accident, just pressing z without seeing the dialogue box, but apparently the game punishes sinning like an angry god and crashed right after, so i had to redo the whole convo plus re-saving heather and yeah... finally. i wonder how many days have progressed in game since i left the dying lesbians that totally don't have, say, a lapras that makes staircases out of moves such as, say, waterfall to die at the bottom of a river. and thanks for putting up with this. i image it must be similar to repeatedly explaining variations of why the triangle peg doesn't go into the square hole to a very persistent toddler who's counter-argument boils down to "but i WANT it to" -

OKAY Viri! im home - or at least in the right country, i've resigned myself to a night on homegals blow-up mattress before i get to see my cats again. if you ever need tips shopping underwear at victoria secret. i'm now a certified pro™ and can recommend crying in a corner until a "staff member", a phrase forever ruined, help you out. but i played reborn the entire flight + at the airport (praise macbook pro's battery life) SO i kicked charlottes cute but unfortunately underage butt on first try, did not expect her to do double battles but none of her mons could withstand the HEAD SMASH and with trick room + light screens i had priority and better defenses. suck it, jailbait. then i lost against random meteor grunt #4 because i wasn't paying attention, ahaha. the plot also changes a lot depending on whenever you give blake the ring or not, didya know? anyway blake got whipped too, and i'm starting to think that i need to train up a brand new blaziken, tis one is useless. also mewtwo an' terra. i changed the moveset of my gardevoir a lil, grass knot was awesome against terra fatasses, then misty terrain + moonblast against garchomp. sleep wwell sweet prince. my mons are still pretty frail thou, i rely a lot on light screens/reflect to make them survive... considering getting something with calm mind/bulk up + baton pass... Maybe. ALSO! behold and @ the vegetarian thing, i getchu - yeah, you're right, religion should not be a ground for any laws, that's cray. -
Viri whenever I read your signatures all I see is K8, u can't fool me i don't wanna give out my name here 'cause it's rare enough that it'll lead you ppl to my personal portfolio, but my nickname is "ellie", and i wish it was a testament to how secure i am in my masculinity, but honestly my friends are just dicks. or, from halloween, "weenie". and my real name means "flaming", which, yeah. and ur next k8 edit: welp i was like two pages back in this thread oops

aw. they both kinda look like they have been playing with electrical sockets, and, speaking from personal experience, that eyepatch look way too snug and functional to work as an eyepatch, eyepatches are straight up evil. but aw. and i really like weavile's collar and... feather crown? and how his neck connects in a sense-making fashion. the big eyes and anime mouths collide somewhat with the otherwise semi-realism of it all thou, and there's something iffy about how they're standing in relation to each other, i think it's weavile's tail that does it; it doesn't look like it comes from his tailbone, and thus makes me question everything. i might need to find someone to do that pose with to test that theory, 'cause i'm not sure thou. but the colors are really nice and their expressions ♥ you're really good at expressions, dude also they're totes- 257 replies

Pokémon Ethics: An Introspective Discussion
Halloween replied to Ironbound's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
getting into the value of life is deep water; if we consider Pokémon our equals because they have a higher intelligence than us, then what about dolphins, should they have human rights? are people with lower intelligence less valuable? i'm fucked we also use "intelligence" as a blanket term here - iq, eq, common sense, pre-meditated actions. just as the highest intelligent monkeys were thought to rank 3 on the eq scale (humans are 7), it was up until recently not proven that they could think ahead. alakazam might have a high iq, but if it lacks eq - empathy, ability to read others, situations - it's not going to evolve as a species like humans can. I've read somewhere that it's forbidden to portrait Pokémon as human food in the anime, but I can't find the source, and hamburgers obviously appeared... so idk. In the series though, only the slowpoke tail was mentioned as eatable as far as i can remember, and that regrows. anyway, inferior/superior... isn't it said in the start of every game that "we" actually live in symbiosis? implying that their position beside us is voluntary - they could rebel. they don't want to. presumedly because they, as the game states by equaling experience with happiness, enjoy fighting, and the benefits and harmony a human-pokémon relation provides.- 39 replies

Viri, to be honest, I've been trying to avoid being the first one to comment here after you post something new 'cause i don't wanna scare people off with our collective swagitude. also been busy the last week but u know that. but i'd wreck u whenever whatever. and almost however too i suppose, even if shakira didn't mention that one. and yeah don't diss on the lady and the tramp romance of scrafty x sylveon. sharing spaghetti while racist stereotypes singing in the background and all. hey look is that a human? woah, that's rare the face on tina is really really great. it's the face of a pissed-off god, shattering god and that chick or, to put it in reborn terms, "person of ambiguous gender" has balls of 24 karat gold, some srs big nuggets dangling there. i'd have nope'd the fuck out if i saw that. i do have a personal theory thou: you got so tired of drawing the chains so you just said "fuck it" to the wings. wings, viri! They're your thing! you draw them so well that you need to put out warnings basically reading "GRAPHICAL WING AHEAD, NOT FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18". what the fuck is that up there supposed to be, a dry-cleaned paper? i can't believe you spent that much detail on the chains, but then again, i've seen your breeding box. which is totally what imma call the drawer under my bed from now on. also, internet on the plane is slow as hell so i can't get a good reference, but: why is he melting? and the legs. i get that he must look something like that in-game, but... since it's you, and it's somewhat realistic, born to run, this guy was not. in fact, this scrawny thighs hardly even look like they can support the calves and hoves. moreso, the mental image of him walking the way he's lifting his hove there, with all six legs, is fucking hilarious. and to nitpick, if you're digitalizing this: the angle of the tail is weird. either hold it up, or make less of it visible, that does not look natural. the face, again, thou, i have been looking at it for a while now and i keep just looking at the face, which, a+ compositing. i've said it before, but since i keep going back to it in my head, again: it's tits. disclaimer: i wanna acknowledge that birds are scary motherfuckers and a swan once chased me like are-you-the-father-tests chase eddie murphy: they're a total legit thing to not be cool with.- 257 replies

Pokémon Ethics: An Introspective Discussion
Halloween replied to Ironbound's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
heyo. it was only a matter of time before i showed up, huh. disclaimer: i can't really see the pokémon anime and the pokémon games as quite the same universe, and it was ten years ago i saw an episode of the anime anyway, so i'll be talking about the "canon" games here. also im on a plane again, typing this, so no internet; sorry if i'm not up to the current discussion. i think it's very difficult to judge a completely different culture on our terms – for example, school seems to be completely mandatory in the Pokémon games, and teenagers and pre-teens often travel the world instead. most people are seen at home rather than working, factories are unmanned, Pokémon seems to help out with most work forces. if people have a job, it's "celebrity" or gym leader. or both. there's also no mentions of guns or similar weaponry. i have little doubt that from their perspective, our culture would be downright barbaric. it's like white ppl going to africa all like "YALL NEED JESUS", like, chill ffs, haven't we done enough damage? there's also another large difference between the Pokémon world and ours - the medical science. directly after the battle, Pokémon are returned to their Pokéballs, where they, unless poisoned, are in a medical limbo. the pokécenter heals all injuries in a second after that. If human medicine would work like that - instant healing after each battle - i'd have spend a lot more time in parking lots. Or at least id like to think so, but i guess i'd still be pocket-sized and i really don't see much of a difference between competitive breeding and what we do to dogs - in fact, i think competitive breeding might be the more humane version, because that's at least aiming for healthy, strong critters - unlike competitive animal breeding, where traits that's actually bad for the animals are deliberately added because "cuteness". eurgh pugs. and pokémon fucking love doing this. the more we fight with them, the more they like us. some evolve because we put them through enough shit. there's this one chick in every game since gen 2 that's like, "hells fucking yeah look at that onix that's onix is just all over you get a room already. or fight some more." alakazam is many times smarter than a human; surely it could figure a way to escape if it really wanted to? i mean, i drew a line with changing a pokémons nature through some weirdass psychology session, but i think genetical breeding is the future. im totally gunna get git myself a superbaby in 10 years: 180 IQ, none of my addictive tendencies, swagass fashion sense and lupita ngyong's - or whatever her name is - superior face. actually still on a plane apparently Norwegian airlines have internet, oops- 39 replies

The whole meat industry is dooming us. I mean, I eat meat - sometimes - but I do think the entire humanity needs to stop asap if we wanna keep this planet. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean “dead zones,” and virtually every other environmental ill, yadda yadda. so i'm trying to go vegan but you know, meat, it's sooo good, haha. i was looking for reasons to even before i got into all this conspiracy shit, and people told me like "well how about it's the end of humanity" and I'm just like; "... yeah fair enough, but what else?" and you're right - the world is slowly and all the more terrifyingly starting to look like nineteen eighty-four and yet all the headlines says are "immigrants are killing us! lose 10 pounds in a week!" shit's mad, and I don't even know where to start on it. wow, viri's an anarchist. i don't know - should there be no line? i mean, obviously human meat should be off the menu, but - personally i don't see an ethic problem with eating cats or dogs - i don't think I would, but still - however endangered animals there needs to laws against, same with animals that cause too much destruction, or torture for the animals to justify it - like geese, for example, naturally less "beneficial" to eat than chicken, so they get force-fed. monkeys? idk. i could probs eat a monkey. see the absence of pam-monkeys on my team? yeah. yeah i'm doing some kind of accidental world tour of sleeping on people's couches or beds for work... i'll be home soon and then imma sleep 16 hours straight and then continue playing, i haven't even opened the game since i opened it just to screenshot tyrantrum. i've consumed enough caffeine to kill 3 mid-sized dogs just the last 24 hours; literally. I have statics. diagrams. graphs. numbers and shit, you'd like it -

oh c'mon Viri, that would have been a perfectly fine sentence without the "breed stock". you're relishing this; steel trainer, so cold, so cool, anime glasses shine, revolver. i mean in real life, you have breeding bulls that you artificially impregnate cows with, and if there's anything wrong with the calf, the bull gets a strike, three strikes and off to slaughter. you just... kill all the calves instead, welp okay or, you know, probably not anywhere cows are holy, but here they're most certainly not we eat them like icecream. And none for Flygon or Gallade, bye. but ooh, rilou! Didn't know you'd get one. looking forward an excuse to kick off Blaziken tbh, as good as he can be. that's a rather... colorful metaphor. i'm trying very hard to come up with something funny or intelligent to say, but i have slept six hours the last 60; words aren't happening. all i can say is, you have an odd way of involving the word "pleasure" in sentences i would not associate it with. holy shit @ your increase in post count -
uwah spicy food i'm too white for spicy food. Mega Evolutions are so hit and miss... I mean, I think it's great that Mawile, Lopunny and Absol got 'em. But Blaziken, Garchomp, legendaries? c'mon ur breaking it. it's broken. rip

i'm stunned. like it could have to do with severe sleep deprivation, but I was honestly just staring at the screen for a full minute trying to comprehend this, or put it into some kind of perspective. in the end i realized that me and homegal get together several times a week to watch re-watch buffy, so with that angle i could ingest this. but... you're on a pc. can't you just, download that pokémon essential extension thing and edit their ivs? or would that ruin it? I'd also forgotten about Roserade! hmm... well, won't have the time to play any this week anyway, and she's poison anyway. hattori is a fucking great name for a greninja. and i have to appreciate the way you lined them up. that shiny is nagl thou, c'mon, they could have made it golden! -

hi K8. five days, that won't even get you a "one week somber" at the AA checkout; when everyone else stands up and says "i've been spending time with my family instead", you'll sit there muttering "it's been five days, i've earned it". but i have to admit, I support your problem. enable, even, to take this bizarre metaphor further; I'd drive for an hour 2am to the one open gasoline station and buy you shiny new ballpoint pens for the kids college funds. help you smuggle in the sketchbooks your wife mustn't know about. and i'm sitting here, right now, nodding along like yes, you've earned this, that's a damn great drawing. the thing about your art is that whenever i google that particular pokémon to get a reference for what it looks like, i always get underwhelmed with the actual design. I can't tell what's going on with your legs and tail placement on that thing, but looking at the actual design... yeah ok you did a good job, it's a fucking traffic balloon with turfs of... legs. I do think the heads should be bigger thou; one of them look about the size of his claws. Or... something? it looks a bit unbalanced, but i can't tell what it is. and why the fuck is this a thing?- 257 replies
