  1. I've done several playthroughs and found a couple standout mvps Magneton/magnezone are just so good with that many resistances he walls several gym leaders. Mamoswine surprisingly good in reborn. Surprise mvp butterfree, with compoundeyes to boost sleep powder and hurricane's accuracy plus quiver dance. Mine beat the arceus solo and quiver dance gets a double boost in the circus gym fights to solo sweep them. But best mvp I ever had was a moxie scrafty that got dragon dance as an egg move. Moxie is so overpowered and he could solo pretty much any single battle. Honorable mention for eviolite trick room porygon 2 for making any double battle a cakewalk.
  2. Shiny only is pretty fun, It lets the game determine what pokemon you have access to. The annoying part is getting a starter, I just cycle through them until I get one. In reborn it doesn't take very long at all. After that you have to use any shiny you find with no resets for event pokemon, no "im going to search for this specific pokemon shiny until I get it", and no mass breeding until you get the one you want shiny. The point is to let the game determine what you have and make use of them in new ways. Most fun playthroughs I've had
  3. In the past I found forretress to be basically a cheat code vs her, the field effect allows it to just spam spikes at her and never die but that was before she had a salazzle. Worth noting is that although the wasteland makes most ground moved useless, earth power and stomping tantrum both work fine. I think high horsepower does too but I don't think it was expanded to all the pokemon that recieved it in gen 8 in reborn yet and you don't have access to mudbray at that point. Or there's always a redirector/screens setter/fake out-er with setup swoobat that works equally well.
  4. I'm also desperately in need of a natu just for pokedex. I can offer just about anything
  5. Turnator can be found much earlier by rocksmashing the bottom floor of apopophyll volcano after the lava is drained. He replaced torkoal, not sure where you get torkoal now tho
  6. Leading a trubbish with toxic spikes can be a nice little boost vs her, but Gulpin and espurr are 1st gym mvps usually
  7. I've had a ton of fun doing two separate shiny only runs, I start by choosing bulbasaur and keep reseting and picking the next starter until I get a shiny one and then I can only use shiny pokemon from then on out (at least once you get 5 more of them) no matter what they are. I don't let myself breed for a specific one, train in one spot until I find a specific one I want, or reset to try and get shiny event pokemon, Just have to use whatever the game gives you in as normal of play style as possible. It can be really tough when you get a bunch of the same types or get some bad ones early on (screw shiny furret I freakin hated that thing). The only allowances I made for myself were that I'd train in new areas more than I might normally instead of fighting the grand hall trainers as much and I let myself breed for pokemon that I would need multiples of anyway such as 5 eevees. I did get a few shinys through wondertrading but so far have chosen not to use those ones. Its the most enjoyable playthroughs I've done since you have to win with what you've got and there is no way to just train up something better to get around a challenge.
  8. Sorry if this has been addressed already elsewhere, but I couldn't find it anywhere. But as of ep 16 the headbutt tree in obsidia park was removed. This was previously the only way to get slakoth and I'm wondering if his line was axed or just moved back. Still says hes obtainable but I don't know if that's been updated and a small change like that might've slipped through the cracks.
  9. I noticed the headbutt tree in the park was removed, which was previously the only way to find slakoth. Was his line axed or is there another way to obtain them that I don't know of? I havent completed ep 16 yet tho.
  10. Shiny venomoth deserves a few mentions, that thing is awesome. Also the bright blue aggron is pretty slick. I also really like some of the ones that reference other stuff like the Harley Quinn Gothitelle and the Mario plant Carnivine. Vivillion is awesome tho (its #666 in the pokedex, clever)
  11. Noel and charlotte for me. but on my later playthroughs I found ways to absolutely wreck them. Noel can't do anything vs a charge beam magneton and also gets beat much easier if you light the grass on fire. Charlotte gets slaughtered by sandstream hippowdon+rockslide gigalith. They swept her completely. Aya can be tricky but if you have a spikes forretress the wasteland does the work for you and she gets pretty easy. One of the ones I'm not seeing mentioned here is samson always gives me problems because half his team is so darn fast. Never had trouble with ciel though, probably because of my obsession with magnezone. EDIT: couple people mentioned shade, guess he's pretty early in but you can get a speed boost sharpedo by then which I managed to 6-0 him with.
  12. Early game treeko is just soooo fragile it dies extremely easily. Especially considering that grass is either offensively or defensively weak vs 6 of the first 8 gyms. (neutral to Julia and Kiki) useless vs Fern and Cain, and also struggles versus the pulse tangrowths/muk/abundance of early game poison types. All of the grass starters got a rough draw in reborn, even late game 2 of the 3 types that grass is strong against happen to be the gyms that aren't in-game yet, and once you're team is lv 80+ you really aren't relying on sceptile to carry the team anymore. The nonstop rain is an annoyance for the fire types but most of the major fights are indoors so its not a huge problem for gyms and such. I did a run with fennekin and he was a champ. Never used chikorita in reborn and chestnaught remains the only starter I've never used in anything so I can't comment on those two but for me its gotta be treeko.
  13. I've played through with charmander (early game steamroller but afterwards kinda meh, although my charizards resistance to moonblast was the only reason I got past Noel) Fennekin (pleasantly suprised, great type combo especially for early game but remains solid all game long. Liked it better than greninja) froakie (pretty unimpressed with it in reborn after the insane amount of greninja hype. I never played XY so maybe hes better in that with some better TMs but in reborn I didn't love him. almost a liability until about level 50 when it can finally get some decent moves (excluding breeding) ) Torterra (who plays exactly like you would expect out of a giant earth-turtle, very slow, bulky and overall good until someone throws a snowflake at him). And kind of used snivy (in my shiny only run so I ditched it as soon as I caught my 6th shiny. He's not great early game but there's no denying the power of contrary+leaf storm, even if it kinda makes him a one trick python) Fennekin was by far the most useful in game that I've tried, but I have no doubt that speed boost Blaziken is in a class of his own starter-wise and I only haven't used him because he's TOO good.
  14. Agreed, if its a feature of the game then people won't consider it unfair or cheating and they'll be a lot more likely to abuse it. And getting overpowered stuff early in the game kind of ruins the fun of the challenge that reborn presents. Ametrine city seems like a logical place for it to get unlocked, they talk about how the computer network runs better up there so maybe have one of the Tech people up there figure out how to activate wondertrading for you. It's late enough in the game to not ruin the fun and still lets you have time to use anything good you happen to get going forward, although could possibly be a bit too late in. And if you were determined to abuse trading early on you could still do it through regular trading. Plus I'd love to see a new sidequest to unlock it like the day care or move re-learner ones.I dunno, but I do kinda dislike having that available the second you start the game.
  15. Most significant for me has to be acid spray, lot of early mons learn it and its extremely useful for the big boss/pulse battles. Haven't seen anyone mention sticky web, Used a leavanny with it and it makes some of the leaders with faster pokemon total pushovers (especially kiki and charlotte). Also, not an attack, but any pokemon with moxie isan absolute champ in this. pretty much broke the game with moxie/dragon dance scrafty
