  1. Oh, to be frank I surfaced rather later than I discovered Reborn, so I let S1 pass in anticipation of a second season wherein I could make a fresh start. I look forward to it.
  2. True enough. Hypothetically though, what happened to Crawdaunt could come to pass again, but in all honesty I just wanted to entertain an idea for the future generation, when UU might turn out to be different. And as for Levitate M-Magnezone, I disagree in that it will be shunted into the less-useful-than-base-form category. Of course, it's idle speculation, but I do believe that if it were to obtain a Mega with Levitate and a speed boost comparable to Metagross's, it could function very ably as a fast, special wallbreaker, Fairy killer and VSwitch pivot with one of the best type combinations in the game, which would include a ground immunity. And as for its steel-trapping role, I can say that most of the things it usually traps are slow and cannot do much back to it. Theoretically, Magnezone could trap the steel type in its base form, proceed to Mega Evolve, gain more power and speed and just eliminate the steel type then and there. The steel type cannot switch outon the turn Magnezone Mega Evolves, thus granting Magnezone a smooth and relatively free turn to go Mega while still doing its base form job. Of course, it'd need team support, and careful planning, but I wouldn't write it off just yet. Anyways, this falls into the scope of theorymonning. We may as well continue to discuss what exists currently without having to speculate about future ifs and buts.
  3. I know enough One Piece to get that one. More steel, because wynaut: Assimilate Type: Steel Category: Status Power: N/A PP: 10 (max 16) Accuracy: N/A The user fuses together its damaged body to recover upto 50% of its health when used. Steel type Recover y/y? We shall be immortal!
  4. Excellent; we can have many a good discussion here, I think. What better way to inaugurate this than by discussing Magnezone? Consider Magnezone. I assume we are aware of its strengths and weaknesses, and that we are all Competitive players, so I will not elucidate further. Magnezone currently sits at a very healthy 6.796% usage on the OU spectrum. It has remained OU ever since its introduction in DPPt. This is primarily because it has a virtual monopoly on its niche of a Steel trapper. In fact, though I dislike having to admit it, Magnezone has little reason to be used in OU today, were it not for its particular excellent niche. It is slow, has crippling weaknesses to the ever common Ground, Fire and Fighting moves, lacks recovery to utilise it's otherwise good bulk, and in general is outclassed by faster and better Electric types like Thundurus, which also boast better coverage. However, as mentioned, it possesses the excellent ability in Magnet Pull, and has just the requisite bulk, typing and movepool to excel at trailing and eliminating most steel types. It thus greatly benefited any Pokemon (notably SD Mega Pinsir, DD Dragonite, DD Mega Altaria, and even bulky mons like Skarmory) that appreciates the removal of bulky steels, which are very prevalent in OU because steel is so godly--I mean, because steel types are quite possibly among the best defensive and offensive types by interaction in OU at the moment. However, on closer inspection, Magnezone possesses other abilities that can justify its usage around the top 30 in OU: a type combination that grants it a huge 11 resistances, including dragonspam and the fabled BoltBeam, a fairy resistance that allows it to deal with most threatening Fairy types (including Azumarill, as it has the physical bulk to take an aqua jet and retaliate with an electric move), a quad-resist to Flying, tolerance or immunity to most debilitating statuses, and a large special attack stat of 130 that must never be forgotten. Even though it is rather outclasses as an Electric type, as a steel type, it claims the niche of one of only two powerful and reliable special attackers in the tier, alongside Heatran. The main flaw with Magnezone is that it is horrendously slow, even with a choice scarf, as it still cannot outspeed everything from Timid Starmie and above; and because of its horrible weakness to ground. (I swear, GF, give Mega Magnezone with Levitate as it should have gotten or else I will personally murderize you) ahem, anyways. Magnezone is often forced to sacrifice power for speed or vice versa, since its best sets usually require a Choice Scarf or a Choice Specs. (Air Balloon is bad trust me; you shouldn't be relying on it to dispatch Excadrill and lose both power and speed on Magnezone.) Upon analysing (heh, pun totally intended) the history of Magnezone, we see that it's role was hugest in Gen4, whereing the lack of Team preview and the OP-ness of Explosion saw it use its deadly trap-kill-boom strategy to great effect (Julia would approve) againat a revealed steel type or a predicted Blissey. It was also able to pull off a Dual Screens set or utilize SubSalac, LO and even TWave. BW and BW2 brought it Analytic, which is useful but removes Magnezone's only niche in trapping steels, so all it did was increase the number of threats to Magnezone (although it was more useful to some extent to destroy Ferrothorn which was everywhere). Gen6 was horribly unkind to it, bringing a steel nerf that removed its resistances to Dark and Ghost and bringing a slew of Mega Pokemon that posed it too big of a threat whilst undermining its usefulness. To sum up, the issue is that Magnezone is pigeonholed into its small niche, excellent though it is, and this niche is getting smaller with each generation. We might see a day when Magnezone drops to UU if it doesn't get a good Mega in the upcoming generations. On this note, I'd like to invite your ideas on the concept of Magnezone in UU in the current meta. I look forward to your answers.
  5. That seems very, very useful. To the point of being broken if Lord of fire types get it; it'll be nice as since important Pokemon's signature move. Anyways, moooaaaar steeeeel; Ferric Blast Type: Steel Category: Physical Power: 100 PP: 5 (max 8) Accuracy: 95% The user concentrates its power and unleashes a burst of iron-hard fragments at the foe. It hits both opponents in a double battle, and does not make contact. It has a 50% chance to raise the user's defense by one stage. Steel type Diamond Storm, really.
  6. Hello and welcome to Reborn! I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here. Give the rules on the left a reading, and be sure to check out the server for some chats.
  7. All the best to you. You'll certainly need all of Fate's blessings in this delightful world of savagery and grim death. In a lighter vein, I recommend talking to everyone, even the most random looking people, and interacting with every rock or barrel you see. You'll find a surprising number of secret items and side quests that can reward the treasure-hunter! And one good idea is to never slacken in Reborn. If ever you come across a complicated puzzle or seemingly unnecessary or pointless path or route, it'll usually be worth your while to investigate them thoroughly. Also, do not let you guard down; there's a reason the first gym is only the first gym!
  8. I like the idea of a physical Fairy TM. As for a special Tock one, I find it a little harder (pun not intended I swear) to believe, since GF hates giving us any special rock moves. The only ones are Ancient Power (which is justifiably not a TM because it is 'ancient') and Power Gem. I'd like it if Power Gem was made into a TM and given a wider distribution. (WHY DOES DIANCIE NOT GET IT) Honestly, I'd like to see more Set Up based TMs. We have Calm Mind and Bulk Up as the good two-stat boosting TMs, but only Swords Dance as the +2 attack version. Maybe Nasty Plot could become a TM? Beats Confide, anyways. Another thing to note is that while we have several moves that boost defenses sharply (Iron Defense, Barrier, Acid Armour and Cotton Guard) we only have one, I think, for Spdef: Amnesia. Unlike Swords Dance and Nasty Plot, which have wide enough distributions to justify being a unique move, Amnesia needs more variants. Even Agility has variants in Rock Polish and Autotomize; as if the Steel types who can get Autotomize cannot also get Rock Polish anyways...
  9. Maybe the newly rebuilt city will give us some better move tutors. In all honesty, it's about time we get access to some slightly better TMs and tutor moves; logic dictates that we get more than Incinerate and Smack Down as we progress beyond our Lv70s, even in a sadis--I mean, challenging game like Reborn. While I can expect the Circus tutors to remain unchanged, I wonder what happened to the old Seventh Street tutors though; In fact, I'd like to see what happens to Seventh Street itself. Would the new, squeaky-clean city continue to have a dirty, hobo-ridden drug hole? Will it be closed down? Will our buddies in the Aqua Gang (or magma gang if you made that poorer choice) have brought the place to heel, and organized it into a grey market of sorts that actually runs properly? Or will the player's double-association with both sides of the law come to a head, when we have to help either our Growlithe-giving police friends or our favourite Carvanha pals? So many theories! Blame me for idle speculation, but I'm thoroughly enjoying this. I'd enjoy it even more if Ame would give us a scyther--I mean, WHAT? I said nothing.
  10. But you didn't see me! And you won't again for a while either. Spine?
  11. Heh.I agree, though, I hadn't considered if they had already chosen a starter. In that case, getting hold of a Venusaur or a Greninja would be a good idea. Empoleon is also good, because MetalBirb best birb, but unfortunately we don't yet have Flash Cannon or Ice Beam as a TM yet, and its movepool by level is kinda meh. I also suggest trying out something with support moves. Tyrantrum gets SR naturally and is an excellent user of it, with great level up moves like Head Smash, Dclaw and EQ to abuse with Rock Head. Greninja and Chesnaught can both be Spikers, and Roserade and Dragalge can be Tspikers or users of Toxic. You can use Sleep Powder on your Roserade or Venusaur, too, but you need to breed with Exeggutor I think. Exeggutor can also pass Extrasensory and Leaf Storm to Budew.
  12. Very correct. It is true that Infernape and Conkeldurr will benefit most from this, and that is by no means a bad thing at all. Besides, a Mach Punch from them is still weaker than a Bullet Punch from Scizor: 40BP + 50% Technician = 60 BP + 50% STAB = actual 90 BP. And that's Scizor without an item. LO or CB make it a monstrous 120 or 135 BP. So yeah. It's a very exclusive item that can be as effective as LO on a Sheer Force Mon. Conk abuses that too, though...damn, that clown on steroids really is a monster.
  13. You are fortunate that I took the day off. Even I can't read for 60 hours flat with less than 20 hours of sleep without taking a break and rotting my brains here. Dhan, may as well.
  14. Fair enough. Well then, we can expand its role, then. I also came up with this item as an idea: Brass Knuckles Boosts the damage dealt with punching moves by 20%. Rather like an additional Iron Fist, but as an item that gives a consistent boost to all Fist/Arm related moves. It can stack with Iron Fist.
  15. You're right, I did make it a bit too limited. TBH I wanted it only to be a gimmick item, not a serious one, since it basically grants the ability Magician to whichever Pokemon holds it, and that makes shenanigans very easy. Admittedly, Knock Off is so common that even under the present conditions it may see use on several Pokemon, against several Pokemon. Making it apply to all contact moves is a double edged sword; it will make the item a lot more useful, but it will also discourage contact moves in general, just like Rocky Helmet, but with the added fear of losing an important item. A lot of Pokemon will be afraid to touch things for fear of the plastic Magikarp xD Then again, it would make Magician almost useless if an item can do the same thing, even if it can do it just once per battle.
  16. TIL that old jokes are still gold.
  17. True. Besides, it could always end up in the wonderful limbo known as BL, if UU's pink blobs are too scared to have their faces punched in. Though I doubt it, since even the almighty Crawdaunt has dropped from BL to UU. If they can tolerate having that monster rampage in their midst, Conkeldurr could be assumed to be no significant issue. Consider also that Machamp, Conk's close parallel, is already in UU. Conk would be less of a problem, I think, as it doesn't even have No Guard Dynamic Punch to abuse, although it does have SF and better bulk, along with STAB priority to its advantage. Besides, I think we have digressed from the point at hand. I'd rather we focus on adding to or augmenting our type ratings for fear of incurring the modgods' wrath. To appease said modgods and to prevent accruing a warning point for rambling, I'll say this, as an elaboration of my previous post which cannot easily be edited therein: I believe that Grass ought be higher on the viability ranking than Rock, as I mentioned. To elaborate, I feel that though both Rock and Grass have numerous weaknesses and rather lopsided stats, Rock suffers from greater monotony than Grass, and has a significantly less diverse or less beneficial set of secondary type combinations than Grass, thereby making most Rock types susceptible to the same weaknesses and flaws when compared to the relatively dynamic Grass types. Grass also has more balanced stats as a whole, and isn't half bad as a defensive typing, especially when considering the excelllence of some members, like Ferrothorn, Amoonguss, Venusaur, Chesnaught, Virizion, Roserade, Tangrowth, Cradily, Whimsicott, Rotom-C and others. (Though it is admittedly a poorer offensive type than Rock, which is fantastic) Rock, on the other hand, has fewer shining examples of diversity and utility. Most follow the general build of being bulky and tanky; the ones that are usable, like Tyranitar, Tyrantrum and Rhyperior, are great only because of their sheer volume of stats and their unique traits, movepools and abilities - something the majority of rock types lack. There are also precious few Offensive rock types that are faster than my Grandmother, bless her; Aerodactyl, Terrakion, Kabutops and Mega Diancie are all that come to mind. Besides, almost all rock types retain the same universal flaws and weaknesses, thereby adding to their monotony. In terms of Team support, Rock definitely boast the inherent Stealth Rock, arguably the most important move in the game from a competitive aspect. However, SR isn't unique to them, but generously available to the vast majority of Steel, Ground, and other Pokemon as well, which are often better users of it than the Rock types themselves. Grass, however, has more exclusive access to key support moves, like Powder moves, Leech Seed, Aromatherapy and so on. Hence, I make my case for Grass > Rock and try to dodge the bullet :]
  18. I agree about Samurott. It deserved to be part Fighting, and get access to Shell Smash and Sacred Sword. It'd be awesome then. Unfortunately, I guess GF didn't want to dilute Keldeo's spotlight with another sword-based water/fighting type. So poor old Samurott is bad, and it should feel bad. I'd also say the possibility of a dragon or Fairy starter is remote, since they are rather OP as a type. Then again, GF had no qualms with making blatantly broken Pokemon like Greninja and Blaziken, and MegaCharizard X and MegaSceptile exist. Fairy or Ghost would be interesting, I admit.
  19. Am I still allowed here? I feel a little iffy since I never change my avatar, but I like to see other people's. Anyway, I can't rate that one because the so-called cutesie anime loli isn't appealing to me. The fact that I do not understand its context is even more unhelpful. :/
  20. But pure typings are boring! Only Blastoise and Feraligatr pulled it off properly, and that's because mono-water is an excellent typing. Yeah, mindless speculation it may be, but it is fun to dream. I'd seriously bet for Water/Fighting, though, as stated earlier, since we need more Keldeo/Poliwrath clones. I actually had a nifty idea about a Water/Bug mantis shrimp Pokemon, but I don't know if they'll ever make a Bug type starter. Starters as a rule are all reptilian/amphibian, mammalian or avian, in that order of numbers. We've never seen an invertebrate or fish as a starter; those are usually given their own spots, since every region has its clichéd early-route rodent, bird, bug and fish. That said, I do like the prospect of innovation in giving us, I don't know, a fighting fish maybe? Wrasscal the Fighting Fish Pokemon?
  21. I see Magnezone. You have my approval. Only thing is, Magnezone doesn't get Adaptability, I think you mean Analytic. And yes, Analytic is the most beneficial ability on Magnezone in Reborn. Also, Volt Switch is not yet available as a TM, so You'll do better with Charge Beam, which can allow Magnezone to boost easily. If you bother about breeding for IVs and natures and EV training, then use a Modest nature on Magnezone and Gardevoir and an Adamant one on Arcanine. Maximize their offensive stats, and maximize speed on Arcanine and Gardevoir. Magnezone will be better off with HP investment and 88 Speed at least. Dragon moves on non-dragons are rather bad, really, so drop Outrage on Arcanine for Crunch or even Thunder Fang. Coverage is useful, even if you have other mons of the same type, since you may not always be able to switch out. Gardevoir can make better use of Trace to copy useful abilities like Water Absorb in specific situations. Its other two abilities are definitely worse, anyway. As for team suggestions: Dragalge: an excellent special tank, that can use Adaptability Dragon Pulse and Sludge Wave and can also make good use of Surf for both coverage and overworked utility. It also completes the Fairy/Dragon/Steel core with Gardevoir and Magnezone. Skrelp can be found by fishing as soon as you reach Azurine Island. Use a Modest or Calm nature with investment in Special Attack or Spdef and HP. If you can be bothered to chain breed, Dragalge can make excellent use of Toxic Spikes, which it can get from omanyte, which in turn gets it from trubbish. Crawdaunt: Exceedingly strong with Adamant Adaptability-boosted Crabhammer and Knock Off. Breeding with Golduck or Seel can give it strong priority in Aqua Jet. It even learns Swords Dance naturally, so it'll be destroying everything in its path if it can set up. Corphish can be found on Apophyll beach via Rock Smash. Grass types are harder to manage in Reborn, since the good ones are rare or difficult to get early on, and many don't get their best moves through level up. However, your best bet might be Chesnaught. Gives you a good physical tank with reliable recovery in Synthetis/Leech Seed and can use Bulk Up with Wood Hammer and Hammer Arm quite effectively. With an Impsih nature, it can also take a more defensive route with Spikes and spiky shield, though you have to chain breed Spikes onto it from Delibird, which must get it from Greninja. You do get a Chespin egg as an event later in the game, and it may have a good chance to come with Spikes as an egg moves, so that'll save you trouble. Until then, Tangrowth is probably your best bet as a defensive grass type with good synergy on your team. Of course, Reborn needs more than six Pokémon to get through comfortably, so consider other powerful mons like Mamoswine, Kingdra, Tyrantrum, Toxicroak, Bisharp, Staraptor, Noivern and Roserade along the way.
  22. In truth, things like Conkeldurr and Sylveon have been lingering in OU for far longer than they merited. Zapdos would be a similar case which stuck around for a long time before it finally got to UU a few months ago. Heck, if even Gyarados dropped to UU--Gyarados, mind you--then it's about time that that clown on steroids got the push.
  23. Interesting. Why not both? A rainbow field of flowers where bug moves are boosted in power and the chance of secondary effects are doubled, so Silver Wind becomes a move of mass destruction, and things like Energy Ball and Bug Buzz have disastrous snowball effects?
  24. Mhh. How about an item called a Red Herring? When a Pokemon holding a Red Herring gets hit with a Knock Off or has a move like Trick/Switcheroo used on them, the Pokemon obtains the attacker's item. In case of Trick and Switcheroo, the attacker will hand the holder their item, but will not obtain the Red Herring in turn; it is lost. This fails when the attacker doesn't have an item (and so it will fail with a successful use of Thief or Covet) or has the ability Pickpocket or Magician. The item works rather like the ability Magician itself, though. It may have use in taking away an important item from an attacker, thereby cutting their strentgh. This can work well with stealing Life Orb and Leftovers, but can have drawbacks if the user steals a crippling item like an incompatible Choice item or Black Sludge etc. The user of course can't steal Mega stones. Oh, and Knock Off doesn't get the power boost when used against a holder of the Red Herring, since they're technically Knocking Off a 'decoy' and not an actual item, whilst their own gets pilfered. Might help insure some mons against all the knock off spam.
  25. That's cool. But Grass/bug is so bad, it'll be a worse choice than Meganium! How about this: Grass/Fairy Fire/Poison Water/Ground Better defensive typings, and although we have enough water/grounds, having one more is never a bad idea! They're all x4 weak to the next one in some way, and they could all learn moves that helped them deal with it: Water/Ground: can learn Ice moves Fire/Poison: can learn Grass Knot or Energy Ball Grass/Fairy: can learn Psyshock and Psychic
