TFW a dog wakes you up in the middle of the night and wants to play.

TIL that Brits make a thing called 'Black Pudding' from congealed pig blood. I think poor old herbivorous me felt a little unnerved.

Reminds me of a joke I saw of a mother Nidoqueen cautiong her newly-evolved daughter Nodorina about the world outside and the possibility of contracting diseases like Pokerus, and how a female Pokemon newly entering the outside world should be careful...to ALAWAYS get infected if possible, because it doubles your EV yield! Diseases, yay! Way to go, GF, in making a virulent affliction beneficial, and making small children playing their game think viruses are awesome. Anyhow, I agree that GF is very sensitive about things that are black in Japanese history, so the best I can think of for a poison/steel Pokemon is an armoured scorpion or lizard or something, not a radioactive hunk of metal (though that is such a cool concept). Otherwise, however, Japan is more liberal with dark stuff (hell, the Dark type is literally called 'Evil type' in Japanese games) including death in Pokemon (Oblivion Wing and Yveltal the Destruction Pokemon are straight up called Death Wing and the Death Pokemon) which can often reference particularly heinous things. For instance, Night Slash is actually called 'Crossroad Killing' in Japanese, a reference to how certain samurai warlords would ambush unsuspecting wayfarers on a blind crossroad at night and brutally murdered them with a single Slash, merely to test the sharpness of their blades. That being a particularly dishonourable thing to do gives the move its Dark type. And I don't even need to mention all the ghost types and moves that talk of death openly enough in Japanese but are neutered in the worldwide releases. So yeah, I agree with Nick. Plague Rats? Yes. Malaria Mosquitoes? Why not. Radioactive waste? Nope. Never.

Happy birthday, Comet; while I don't think I've had the chance to meet you yet, I look forward to that felicity. In the meantime, there's certainly nothing wrong in wishing people on their birthdays, so I hope you have a great year ahead.
-
Good luck, mate. You'll need all of it. I hope you get an Excadrill or at least a Steelix onyo that team to help you with the ice and Grass to an extent. I have a question for you. You're doing a ground mono. You have a Larvitar. Will you evolve it into a Tyranitar, even though it loses its ground typing then?

Well, at the very least, Arcanine and Chandelure learn one of those spreading fire moves naturally, so it isn't that difficult to have a good Pokémon with a move of mass incineration. Neither is it unduly difficult to catch a magcargo or bring a Camerupt for this one field, should one lack any better fire type. Besides, every fire starter can learn the respective pledge move and burn the field. Or, maybe, one can bring a Roserade or a Heracross or a Yanmega and try to abuse the field? I don't see why we should be hasty to plan how to burn it down (even if Ame asked us to) without considering if it could first be of use to us in some way. Flowers are nice!

I'm....still awake.... *zappy noises of dying Magnezone* Aaaargh. Spine?

Well, let's keep it vague, then. I want an organism to be a Pokemon base. Aha, in all seriousness, how about an actual grasshopper? Kricketune doesntbcoubt, really. It's a half-assed cricket, much though we like its delelelelelwhoooooop. We could have a bug/grass grasshopper evolve into a bug/dark locust! It could happen only if there were more bug types in the player's party (similar to pancham needing a dark type to evolve) since grasshoppers do not mutate into the plague-causing locusts unless they are overcrowded in times of drought. We could definitely have Katyd the bug become Grumdrum the Grasshopper, which becomes Locusect the super-fast, special attacking Tinted Lens/Swarm bug/dark type with moves like Bug Buzz, Dark Pulse, Heat Wave and Hurricane?

I still loathe it, unless it becomes anatomically accurate and has eight legs like any self respecting spider should. I dislike that most bug types have too few legs. Also, why not Poison/Dark? Is it still not up to the level of Drapion? Anyways, maybe we can give Quilfish an evolution. I'll work on it, but maybe it could go from being a pufferfish to a scorpionfish?

Praise The Sun... and Moon - Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon

I think we've quite exhausted our speculation, what? We can only wait for the new CoroCoro leaks if and when they come. Of course, I still want an old pink-clad chap as champion. -
Making Pokemon harder - Problems and solutions
Ironbound replied to Lugruf's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
A very valid case. I also support the view that a player should be able to choose his own impositions. It'd be nice if GF acknowledged a Nuzlocke mode, or any of its variants. -
About fossils, how about a failed one that didn't revive fully and is Rock/Ghost? Basically an animate skeleton. And yeah, there are many saurian options for fossil mons. I'd like a Rock/Fire Dimetrodon, as Hushie said. Better not be slow and fat, though, as that'd be a magcargo syndrome all over again. A Rock/Dark thing would be cool too, bit I don't want to remove Tyranitar's uniqueness.

Making Pokemon harder - Problems and solutions
Ironbound replied to Lugruf's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
If you ask me, customizing and changing IVs and egg moves (I.e bypassing breeding or 'grinding' as you say) is a detraction and not an addition to the level of difficulty in a Pokémon game; breeding is an integral part of Pokémon mechanics that makes a giantbimpact on the Pokémon. The old 'no-pain-no-gain' adage will have to apply here to reward the player with superior odds, increased surety and better moves. Changing Natures with the psychologist is one thing, but being able to maximize or customize IVs is taking it too far in my opinion. Besides, a great way to make a game more challenging is to limit moves and breeding options, which Reborn does well. Personally, part of the reason I enjoy Reborn is because I can gloat after breeding up an army of trophy mons with the best available moves, and using innovations and replacements when a Pokémon cannot learn its best moves ASAP. As for other ways to challenge the player, one can always have a longer story or intricate puzzles with secret rewards, which Reborn again has. Ultimately, one must remember that the main series Pokémon games are always designed to be simple for the children whom it is aimed at. Interested players can always modify it for themselves by imposing restrictions, or by customizing difficulty like BW2 allowed (only wish it was in built in the start of the game insead of being a post-game unlockable). So I guess sone amount of self-imposition will always be needed, depending upon the indivifual players' tastes. Tldr; most of the stuff in Pokemon is fine as it is difficulty-wise. GF certainly could start catering to older or more challenge-seeking players by creating difficulty levels and variations of the game which bar easy access to strong Pokemon and impose level caps, or new dynamics with terrains like Revorn, or which restrict the availability of moves via tutor or TMs. EDIT: Masquerain ninja'd most of my point about Challenge modes and difficulty levels. Oh well. -
Chili wouldn't be be an inanimate object; it'd be as much an animate plant as Victreebel or Cherrim. And idk about all the other stuff. We have Sharpedo and Garchomp, but I see what you mean. Although Garchomp draws from a Hammerhead, I'd like to see an actual Hammerhead shark Pokémon, make it Water/Steel, too, and shape its head like an anchor! I'm getting lots of fakemon ideas here. We also could use a Swordfish or Marlin Pokémon; maybe Water/Fighting with SD and Sacred Sword? And hush! No one talk about Unfezant. That thing is not a Powerful Staraptor and is therefore trash. I guess it is a pheasant-pigeon hybrid, but yeah we need a more obvious Peacock than M-Altaria. And if you know me, you know I have a great affinity for mechanical, inanimate, robotic or alien Pokémon. Magnezone, PZ, Metagross, Chandelur, Aegislash and stuff like that are extremely cool. But of course, you're entitled to your opinion.

Praise The Sun... and Moon - Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon
Ironbound replied to Godot's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
Well, that Grass/Fairy hummingbird better have Levitate, then, because it'll be absurd to have a Mon based on the nimblest flyers be susceptible to EQ. -
Sure, I don't dispute any of that. I was just pointing out that a Pokemon exists which definitely draws inspiration from a peacock. The long neck, white cheeks, long tail feathers and general build all speak of it being a peacock. A fluffy peacock being swallowed up by a cloud. Of course, I see what you mean; Mega Altaria is not flashy, doesn't have the dark blu-and-gild iridescence or any eye markings at all. And it's not as if GF shrinks from making multie Pokemon drawn from a shared concept. Here's to the new early bird Pokemon, Quailody, which evolves into Quartridge, which in turn becomes Symfowl, the Peacock/Pheasant Pokemon with bright colours and moves like Quiver Dance, Rain Dance and Psychic. It could be a Fairy or Psychic/Flying Pokemon; in my head I already have a concept to draw later!

[CW: One Off and Feedback] But yet, What is a Dream?
Ironbound replied to Raindrop Valkyrie's topic in Creative Works
One clean month after you posted this, I have read it. I appreciate the titular question; after all, the entire CW revolves around just that. As far as the subject is concerned, I'm of the school that advocates shutting up and doing one's job right, so a dream in that sense would only equate to a vision, goal or objective, regardless of how daring or adventurous it may be. In my book, a dream is synonymous with a goal, in that it is definable, achievable and purposeful. If there is even the slightest deviation, then the 'dream' becomes what I write off as a 'fantasy', that is, an idle thought that is pointless if it is involuntary, and worthless if it is a conscious daydream, as it is impotent, unachievable and seeks to satisfy a weak ego's desire for self-indulgence and escapism. Castles in the air, you know, and all that sort of thing. I do not say not to dream, as after all only dreamers can achieve; I merely give no consideration to idle thoughts, and don't include them in the definition of a dream. Likewise, fractured mental images that cycle through a sleeping, comatose or otherwise meditating mind are also not dreams, as they are only imperfections in the meditative field borne out of stress, fear or other lack of focused reconciliation with reality. True, restful and beneficial medication, whether it is active or passive in the form of sleep and repose, is always 'dreamless' and empty. The retention of memories being a subconscious process is not really 'dreaming' either. Thus, that singles out only one among your four postulations, at least from my perspective: that of imagination and achievement. Which is why I appreciate the closing line all the more; a dream is indeed what one makes it, or rather what one makes of it. From a writing perspective, I must again appreciate your 'no-style' style. This is different from the other that I had read yesterday, and yet I could guess that it was yours, even had I not known that to begin with. I see a few minor errors of grammar and syntax, but I don't want to pick at them. It's certainly a good reflection, though, and I'm glad to have read it. -
I see you, Dhan! Spine is also there.
-
I'm content with that content, contentious though it may contend to be. Now, what don't I have in my trophy box? Why, Sciozr, Tyranitar, Garchomp, Hydreigon (IDC about Goomy sorry, Dragalge is my go-to fat SpDef Dragon), Volcarona, Ferrothorn, Excadrill and Starmie. I will now dream.
-
That's probably because Game Freak intentionally avoided disease-carrying insect pests as models for Pokemon. There is no actual housefly, mosquito, cockroach or flea Pokemon. That could change, though, if GF decided to go ahead with it. Introducing Mosquitox, Roacharach, Flytse and Fleeder!

*Raises Magnetic appendage in an impolite gesture* Besides, I never said Goodra was bad. In fact, I'm making a case for it to appear in E16, hopefully, so -stick- to my side!
