For me, I've never known true despair perseverance and determination ever since playing Touhou. (for those of you who don't know what Touhou is) Funny thing is, despite how ridiculously hard it is, I just keep trying despite how hard I fail. What's the hardest game you've played (and liked)?

Xenoblade Chronicles X (with a bit on the other Xeno games)
Stalkerkain replied to Commander's topic in Gaming General
Hoo! Quite some food for thought you've written there! (I enjoyed reading all of it). Most of what you've said isn't really that jarring to me, as I've played games with worse functionality or similar difficulty. I've seen videos of combat, and was worried it would just be button mashing like in Xenoblade Chronicles, but from what you've said, there'll be more planning, and I'm all for it. Thanks for your really informative take on this! I was initially going to pass on this, but it certainly helped to have someone's perspective (game-site reviews just seem really robotic and don't tell me what i really want to know) I'll definitely pick up a copy once I finish my finals on the 15th. -
Xenoblade Chronicles X (with a bit on the other Xeno games)
Stalkerkain replied to Commander's topic in Gaming General
Hmm that's very interesting, and gives me more incentive to try Xenoblade Chronicles X. Now, like you, I'm a very very into plot and characterization. That being said, I played through like iunno, 1/4? 1/2 of Xenoblade Chronicles? (Probably a little after recruiting Rikki) And all I can remember is a particular two characters screaming "I'm really feelin' it" or "It's Reyn Time!" I was really upset with the lack of characterization, and eventually I stopped caring about the characters altogether. Maybe I just never got far enough. A couple of questions: How many hours is this "slow start"? I think i spent like 20 hours in Xenoblade Chronicles and it still seemed to get nowhere to me. I'd actually like to hear more "Cons" of the game from you, as that'll probably give me a better perspective. -
You could still legitimately win the war through tactics and cooperation. If I were to make an analogy, image the movie Home Alone (basically child vs adult robbers if you haven't seen the movie). In a contest of sheer power, the robbers would probably win (higher star rating) But since the child in Home Alone booby trapped his entire house, he eventually managed to drive off the robbers (through tactics). Maybe in the RP you and your master devise a scenario to make it possible for Hervor to pull off his Noble Phantasm, effectively trumping against stronger servant.

First 10 roll: Second 10 roll: I was probably being too hopeful for Scathach given my previous luck.

Name: Elysia Race: Shadowshifter [Doppelganger] Shadowshifters are a race who find comfort in darkness, often making their homes where the sun is unable to reach. As its name suggests, the members of this race operate mainly from the shadows, making them ideal candidates for subterfuge and assassination. Able to change their appearance at will, Shadowshifters were often at the forefront of conflict. Age: 111 Appearance: Although able to freely change her outer appearance, Elysia decided to take on the appearance of a child. It was her decision to reflect how naive she was when it came to the world, and how young she was compared to the rest of her race. She has wavy black hair, which only falls to her shoulders. The irises of her eyes are yellow, and is only thing that she cannot change when taking on the appearance of another. Rather than the eyes of child-like innocence, her eyes appear hardened, as if she had never learnt to trust. Personality: Her abundance of questions, and the lack of answers caused Elysia to become a person who thirsted for knowledge. However, this pursuit of knowledge got her in more trouble than she was asking for, often sticking her nose where it didn't belong. With enough information, she could overcome her fear of the unknown, and sometimes she would outweigh risk in favor of the truth. Class: Shadowstalker [Thief] Lesser Abilities: Tier 1 Tier 2 Signature Abilities: Background: As the war between the Free Races and Castle Dour began to escalate, it became increasingly dangerous to venture outside the walls of Castle Dour. Elysia's parents feared that if Castle Dour were to lose the war, then there would be no future for their child. Volunteering to fight on the front lines, the last memory Elysia had of her parents were of them leaving out the door of their home. The war between the Races eventually came to a standstill. As the order to retreat was called, Solomon made the decision for the gates to be shut. Anxiously waiting for the return of her parents, Elysia stood impassively at the entrance for her parents' return. Elysia told herself that they would be back. But that day never came. Elysia was taken in by other Shadowshifters, and eventually a new family was created. Despite not needing to hold a weapon, she trained hard in hopes of one day of finding her parents. But one hundred years was simply too long to ask of a child, and eventually Elysia grew weary. The sounds of her parents' voices, or even their faces seemed too distant. Were they even still alive? But as Azegeor decreed that the gates would open once more, an opportunity was presented. Either Elysia could remain in the comfort of Castle Dour where she had spent all of her life, or she could venture outside the gates and learn about the world around her. Perhaps she could learn the nature of her parents' dissapearance. Knowing her answer, she packed what little belongings she had, and shut the door of her home for the last time.

-cough- so, just gonna stay out of the OPM debate, as I know where I stand already. This is not just to Gore, but to errrrrbooodyyyyyy. Yes. Gintama. Never be discouraged by length. Once you discover you love it (and the people I know who have given it a legitimate shot, have liked it), you'll be like "omg now there's 200 MORE episodes of that!" I will admit, if you're doing it from episode one (and not jump around) then yes it will take until episode 50, the first arc, for you to get hooked. The first 50 episodes act more as a prologue, allowing the viewer to get accustomed to the rather large cast, and learn about many of their quirks. If ANYTHING, start with a random episode, or certain episodes (I'll certainly be glad to start you off if you're interested). This is a fairly accurate beginner's guide to Gintama Lastly, Gintama has one of the most fluid fight scenes I have ever seen, just pure awesome combat. None of that Bleach teleporting-swordfighting-BS. Dive. In. I never discovered a lot of titles I like if I never gave it a good-to-honest shot.

What was your last "feel good" moment? Beat an old highscore? Do really well on a test? Demolished Fern's smug arse- I'll start. Just took a shower. Showers are good. S'gud shower.

I'll totally second Bastion and Transistor. Fantastic score, gameplay, and story. If you haven't, the Bioshock series is really good (1, and 3's DLCs in particular). The rest are still worth playing. The Binding of Issac, tons of replayability. Borderlands. Grab a bunch of friends.

Character Name (Player): Tomokazu "Richard" Shinichi (Stalkerkain) (will mainly refer to him as Richard 99% of the time, unless someone wants to claim to know him) Traditionally Japanese. Gender: Male Age: 23 Alignment: Neutral good Appearance: A man with unkempt black hair and stubble on his chin. He is 6 feet tall, but often slouches, causing him to appear a little shorter than he appears. His brown eyes show signs of weariness. Wears dark colors of clothing because they absorb heat better. Personality: A man who is utterly stubborn, no matter what he does. If he decides to start something, he'll follow it through until the end regardless how disavantageous it is. Shows dislike of the cold. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and will speak what is on his mind. History: Coming from a line of mages from the Tomokazu clan, he was one of the candidates for the Grail War. Trained from a young age, he showed potential in utilizing magic. However, Shinichi fell in love with a woman outside the clan. The clan would not allow this, as it would create unnecessary emotions that might interfere with the war. Not wanting anything to do with the war or the Grail anymore, Shinichi left the clan to get married to his spouse. He abandoned his birth name of Shinichi, and took on a more western name. However, unable to fully abandon his roots, he kept the name Tomokazu. The marriage soon turned sour, and ended in divorce. He now lives alone in Tokyo.. Skills: Richard is adept at fire magic, controlling fireballs like will-'o-wisps. Was trained in basic hand-to-hand combat, but his skills have deteriorated due to disuse. Can still hold his own in a basic fistfight. Servant: No catalyst used. Also: Kosher pls check your inbox/messenger/notifications/thing I had a question to ask you Edit: Included player name, and changed to where he lived to be Tokyo.
