1. Winner: Ikaru - Not only is it a phrase widely known with being powerful yet fragile, not only does it relate as a meta game term, and not only is it a spiffy model, but its just plain cool. Runners Up Ocra - Can't get much more fragile than 1 HP in Pokemon Mashew - Which is exactly why I ignore you guys half the time N8 - You're right, it does make no sense
2. Apparently you are your own grandpa, Ame! Stab yourself and see if you kill your grandchild that is you =D But who the hell are Tremor and Cookie Monster, and how am I their offspring? And my other family is...mostly dead. I'm an orphan D=
3. Just trying to prevent this from turning into a spam topic. Already had to move it out of News, don't want to have to delete it. But I guess I do apologize for Closing the topic as that was probably rash. I was trying to be preemptive, but it should stay open for.....what the topic was created for I guess.
4. And so ends another round of pointlessness. LOCKED
5. Nope, Rain Dish was my mistake. It only recovers HP from the Rain, not from Water attacks. Bullet Punch is probably the most common Steel attack out there, but there are still others. Meteor Mash is used by Metagross, Jirachi and Clefable, Gryo Ball from slower Pokemon, Iron Head for flinching, and other attacks are sprinkled here and there in both the meta and story mode of the games. Steel is out there people!
6. There are several Types and Abilities that make the Pokemon immune to other types. These are: Electric ~ Ground / Volt Absorb / Motor Drive Ground ~ Flying / Levitate Fighting ~ Ghost Fire ~ Flash Fire Grass ~ Herbivore Normal ~ Ghost Ghost ~ Normal Poison ~ Steel Psychic ~ Dark Water ~ Water Absorb / Dry Skin Around half of these are natural Type immunities, like Steel against Poison. The other half are from abilities, like the new Herbivore ability against Grass attacks. What makes the abilities special is that they also provide an added bonus in addition to taking no damage. Water Absorb regains health, Motor Drive increases Speed, etc. With 10 Types having zero effect due to immunities, that is more than half of all of the types*. So with that there are two questions of discussion: #1: Should there be more Immunities added with abilities? #2: What sort of abilities would these be / who would get them / what bonus if any would they give in addition to immunity? (Yeah, last one was a three part question but so what.) I'd be all for more abilities being added to give more immunities, and feel free to tell me if there were more added beside Herbivore. The Ground immunities are always great because of the standardization of the attack Earthquake. As an attack that has great strength, coverage, and can be learned by the majority of Pokemon, its a good thing that there are Pokemon that can switch into it without fear. Same goes for most of the other types having standard attacks associated with them (Thunderbolt, Close Combat, Surf, etc.). If there was a something immune to every Type of attack between types and abilities, that would be great. It just adds that element of strategy with switching and trying to predict switches. First one that comes to mind would be an immunity to Steel. Smelt - Steel type attacks that land against this Pokemon deal recoil damage to their user. Pokemon with Smelt takes no damage. Recoil damage is the first that comes to mind, though I don't know how it would be calculated if damage isn't actually given. Just some form of damage inflicted to the Pokemon that used the Steel move, like it was melted. It would be given to Fire or fire related Pokemon that would have the capability to smelt Steel. What other ideas can you come up with? *Nagging feeling that somehow I forgot an immunity...
7. Fragile ~ Delicate ~ Brittle ~ Weak
8. Yes, I know this. It was just part of me showing distaste with the character of Silva and making fun of him/her (I can't tell what gender name that is). Doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the characterization, I just don't like it. It happens and I'm allowed to poke fun at it. So keep ye mouth shut, villain!
9.
10. I like to see the items that Pokemon use drawn with them. I'm going to wager with Silva that it is a....Focus Sash. Either that or a Choice Scarf, but Sceptile is too fast to need that. Silva appears to have come out nicely, the head shape being spot on. The tail might be a little too detailed compared to artwork/sprites, but it still looks nice and is probably better for reality sake. But dear lord I already do not like the attitude of Silva. Just...way too much talking and dramatic overtones. If you were to ask soup or salad, I think Silva would turn it into the next great Shakespearean work. And then to call the Ursaring a villain? For all you know it's a mother defending the territory and safety of her cubs. Pshaw!
11. Dear lord, that is a bit terrifying. I guess Ditto will no longer be just a sex slave. Cloyster w/ Life Orb Ability: Skill Link - Moves that hit 2-5 times will always hit 5 times. Move: Shell Break - It breaks its own shell and lowers its Defence and Special Defence, but its Attack, Sp. Attack and Speed sharply rise. Move: Icicle Spear- Attacks the foe by firing 2 to 5 icicles in a row. Base Power 25 (Used to be 10) Cloyster uses the move Shell Break and suddenly it has +2 Speed and +2 Attack. Then it can use Icicle Spear to hit 5 times for 125 base power and it gets STAB. Here is the breakdown of damage: Cloyster Damage Calcs: +2 Adamant LO Icicle Spear (25 BP STAB x 5 hits) vs. 252/252 Impish Skarmory = 80.8% - 98.8% (OHKO with Rocks) 252/252 Impish Swampert = 89.1% - 106.4% 252/252 Impish Hippowdon = 145.2% - 173.8% 252/252 Relaxed Nattorei = 81% - 95.2% 252/252 Bold Cresselia = 67.6% - 81.1% 252/252 Impish Uxie = 80.5% - 94.6% 252/252 Impish Poliwrath = 46.9% - 54.7% 252/252 Impish Giratina = 119% - 142.9% 252/252 Impish Groudon = 136.1% - 163.4% 252/252 Bold Suicune = 37.1% - 44.6% (possible 2HKO with Rocks) 252/252 Impish Deoxys-D = 80.6% - 95.4% 0/0 Shanderaa = 97.7% - 114.9% 0/0 Kerudio = 78.9% - 92.9% 0/24 Empoleon = 40.6% - 48.7% (incredible considering it 4x resists) 4/0 Kyogre = 74.6% - 87.7% ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Shanderaa Dream World Ability: Shadow Tag It has proven to be a lethal ability on Wobbuffet and it could be even worse with Shanderaa. If someone that is Choiced attacks with a Fighting move, then you can just switch it in and set up max Calm Minds. Then once you're all set, unleash hell with +6 Special Attack. It can also learn Substitute of course and if it weren't for standard rules, you could also see if with Double Team. Say hello to rape. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jalorda (Grass Starter) Dream World Ability: Perversity - It reverses changes to its stats It has access to the move Leaf Storm which is a 140 bp Grass type Special Attack. Now normally this move will also lower the Special Attack of the user 2 stages, but because of Perversity it will actually raise its Special Attack to +2. So every time it attacks it only gets stronger.
12. I think you would have to face the person in the same tier as you. There wouldn't be a case where it would be UU vs Ubers. Personally, I don't care much for the Ubers scene so I would rather see OU, UU, and NU. But either way, I want diversity of tiers on the teams.
13.
I would join, but I don't get how this works. If the managers draft the teams and play the battles, what's the point of everyone else?
The managers are just the team leaders. They don't have any other special privileges past picking their players and being the "face" of the team. Everyone on the team still battles.
14. 4 teams of 3 That way there won't be a tie with the team battles since three is an odd number. And if we don't do a round robin, then the numbers are equal for a (small) bracket. Then there is the fact its easier to plan with a smaller group.
15. Well the strongest Pokemon do seem to be on mountains. Mt. Silver, Stark Mountain....Ummm, Mt. Reborn >_> Facial expressions are still excellent as ever. Like how Gardevoir looks exhausted from the hike, so often people fail to show the condition people are in and they just...stare. And then there was a bear! Besides that, good page. Feel like we're getting into a minor plot with this battle hopefully. Even if it just lasts this page and 2-3 more pages, that would be fine. NON POKEMON FISH!!! O_O
16. Apparently Jessie has Seviper, Yanmega, AND Wobbuffet in storage. All she has on her right now is Koromori, the ugly bat Pokemon. I guess it makes sense that she would have it, since in the games Team Rocket always had those type of Pokemon. In the beginning Jessie and James had Arbok and Weezing, which were standard for Team Rocket in the games. Koromori will probably be a standard Grunt Pokemon in these games, too. Buuuuuut.... Brock owned the Zubat line which was a signature Team Rocket Pokemon, James has been more of a Grass Trainer (which I like), and Jessie a mixed bag with an emphasis on snakes and bugs. So while they've never given Team Rocket a starter, I could see Jessie with Tsutarja since it is a Snake Pokemon. So Jessie is a strong choice for Tsutarja besides Ash, and I don't know enough/anything about the new traveling partners to know if they will be likely recipients of the other two starters. Edit: Ash has now claimed Pokabu as well. And guess what? It steals the origin story of Charmander! Yep, Pokabu got abandoned by its previous trainer because it was not strong enough and failed to defeat a Shikijika (the Grass deer). Which means someday Ash may have his own Ganon, Lord of Darkness! But will he manage to catch the final starter? Or will Jessie and Team Rocket finally get in on the starter action? Tune in next time!
17. Remind me why they're at the base of a mountain about to climb it? The story still seems to jump a lot.
18. Where are we supposed to fight them? Our server? Their server? And how are we supposed to find them? Hope to get lucky with both of us being on at the same time? Why is the sky blue? Is Schrödinger's cat alive or dead? Questions?!?
19. Sure, if only because it reminds me of the kickass country team tournament that Smogon does Forum Name/PO Name: AZKnight Time Zone: Mountain -7:00 (Arizona) Tiers you're willing to play: OU, UU, Uber Interested in being a manager: Probably No How do you plan on getting 30 people for 6 teams of 5?
20. Ash caught *coughstolecough* himself a Mijumaru! Oh, and it has the same personality as his Chikorita. How original! But will he catch the other two?
21. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner, but I'm just going to read what Bulbapedia has on the topic.
The invention of Poké Balls apparently occurred in the Johto region, where Apricorns grow; these fruit were cut apart and carved out, then fitted with a special device, and used to catch wild Pokémon prior to the mass production of the Balls that occurs in modern times under Silph Co. and the Devon Corporation. Some Trainers still use Poké Balls made from Apricorns, while Kurt, a resident of Azalea Town, still constructs them.
Ok, we already knew that as part of the recent history. What else?
Prior to the invention of Poké Balls, Pokémon were referred to as "magical creatures" (Japanese: 魔獣 majū), indicating that the name Pokémon, short for Pocket Monster, did not come into common parlance as a term until these devices allowed the various Pokémon to be stored in pockets easily. This also shows that in these times they were believed to be supernatural creatures, not natural ones.
...say what? This starts to touch on the idea that there are other creatures besides Pokemon. I'm sure in the game there probably are things like chicken and plain fish, but you never see them because they aren't important. But you never see them in the anime. They only time I ever remember normal animals being referenced was at the Indigo Plateau when they ordered BBQ Chicken Pizza. So there are chickens somewhere . Pokemon being considered supernatural is seen in the Arceus movie, since the ancient civilization in that cannot place them in devices, only chain them up with collars.
Though the technology behind a Poké Ball remains unknown, the basic mechanics are simple enough to understand: in a Pokémon battle, once an opposing wild Pokémon has been weakened, a person, the Pokémon Trainer, can throw a Poké Ball at it. The Poké Ball has a special capsule design. If the Poké Ball hits the Pokémon and is not knocked back by it, the Poké Ball will open, convert the Pokémon to a form of energy, and pull it into its center, closing. A Pokémon in this state is given a chance to struggle to attempt to escape, at which point the ball will either be destroyed (in the games and some manga) or will return to the Trainer (anime), who can attempt once again to capture the Pokémon. A Pokémon who does not escape the ball will be caught.
This...doesn't tell us anything we didn't already gather ourselves. You failed me Bulbapedia!
22. I think I'm liking the Pokemon that are more firmly rooted as being based on a real animal in design. The Electric Spider is probably my favorite Pokemon by design, yet I hate that jousting Bug. You soil the name of Knight!

24.
Apricorns are a special fruit that is native to the Johto region. They appear to be related to berries, and are encountered only in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, the games that focus on Johto. Usually, Apricorns are hollowed out by specialists and fitted with special devices to be used to catch Pokémon. One such specialist, Kurt, lives in Azalea Town with his granddaughter, Maisy, who assists him in his work.
