2. Looked into it a little more and it doesn't look that bad. The Pokesav stuff is free and I believe you don't need anything extra to connect your AR to the computer since it is designed to take new cheat codes. Going to try to figure out Pokesav and then probably get an AR this weekend. I might still want to breed my own so they are truly legit, even if the stats I give them are legitimate. Though now I have a sneaking suspicion about breeding. Does anyone know if it's unsafe to breed Pokemon you get from AR?
  3. See, I don't think that would work. If it did, then why wouldn't it list Hitmonchan as a Father that can pass down Drain Punch? Second, one of the rules of passing down moves:
The Pokémon will start with any TM or HM moves (and starting in Crystal, move tutor moves) that the father knows and the baby can also learn by machine.
Conkeldurr cannot learn Drain Punch because it is no longer a TM. Which is why I don't think Hitmonchan is listed as a father for Drain Punch.
  4. I fear I have finally given in to the pressures to get one of these two cheating devices. I don't know who uses them or if competitive people I see on youtube use them or not. Seems like the only way you could have consistent battle. Cannot even imagine trying to legitimately breed near perfect IVs on a Pokemon. I'm now realizing that if I want to get in on the competitive scene, using a cheating device for some cases would be very nice and time saving. I just cannot spend hours if not days breeding individual Pokemon and do that enough times to actually have a large selection (want to do Roulette someday). Which one do you use? I looked on Bulbapedia about both of them and I used to think that they were synonymous. That you use the Action Replay and the act of using it for getting Pokemon is called Pokesavving. They are in fact different systems. Action Replay definitely seems easier as you can buy that in a store. Pokesav seems like something where you need an SD card to save your game onto and then edit things on your computer? I really don't know. Can you use Action Replay to get a Magikarp with perfect IVs? Or a Chansey with Wish? Or do you have to use Pokesav? If anyone can just clear this up for me.
  5. I have not done a lot of breeding and I somewhat understands the mechanics behind it. I got pretty good at getting the Natures and IVs that I wanted on my Pokemon the few times I did breed for competitive play. Still a bitch, but I knew what to do to make it easier. I thought it would be a piece of cake to breed a Conkeldurr for an upcoming Tournament I will be running at my university, but then something caught my eye. I knew that Drain Punch had to be bred on it but I thought that it learned Mach Punch by level up. Not the case. Oh, well I'm sure the Pokemon you use to breed Drain Punch onto it also learns Mach Punch. Wrong. You need Mienshao for Drain Punch, but you need either Hitmonchan or Infernape for Mach Punch. Now I have always been confused about how moves are passed down and it's hard enough when you only have two parents. Except now I have three parents potentially. It doesn't look like any of them learn the other move. Even if they did I would not know if that would work. Simply put: How do you breed Conkeldurr to have Drain Punch and Mach Punch?
  6. Probably a mix of Pokemon researcher and Gym Leader. Playing through Black & White has really expanded on the notion that Gym Leaders do the battle scene plus something on the side, like painting, being a model, flying planes, etc. The Gym Leader part is pretty straight forward. The research would probably revolve around the natural habitats of Pokemon, how they behave in the wild and how entering into the Human world under trainers changes them. The thing I would do most differently from the games is raising more than just six Pokemon like I normally do for playing the story. I'm going to raise all of my favorites and keep them all on hand for my research, traveling and general companionship. Despite that, I would probably settle on a single type to use in the Gym, just to be fair. I'd probably piss challengers off by not being in the Gym 50% of the time, but tough luck. I'd also give away an awesome TM, like Earthquake. Oh! Or make my own TM. If Bugsy can do it then so can I damn it. All in all, Gym Leader who researchers the natural abilities and habitats of Pokemon and how they train when they find a trainer. And of course start my own branch of the Pokemon G-Men. Though that would probably just be a Gym Leader Alliances. We'd do shit like the Leaders in Black & White unlike some other Leaders *glares at Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh*

  8. Ah yes, the one and only tournament I entered via the real world using an actual DS. 'Twas an interesting tournament. Hosted by MTGXerxes, the guy who got my into competitive play and watching it on youtube. First round my guy flaked on my so that was sad that I didn't get to battle, but cool since I survived the first round. Second round found out I was against FrostyPixie and just thought fuck. But I won! That made me think I could do this tournament. Aaaaaand then it lost steam from too many people flaking and was never heard from again. But hey, I beat a very prominent youtube battler so I was happy. I'll probably be lazy and just register the team I used for that tournament. Screw using 5th Gen stuff and new things, I'm gonna stick with my newb tactics because they worked!
  9. Bah! I can't find where you change the banner.,,

    1. Amethyst

      Amethyst

Unfortunately, that's the drawback of the skin customization thing- can't change the banner. Not sure what to do about that yet...

  10. Huh, I'd never looked at it that way before. To me the Dark and Ghost weaknesses always made sense to me, maybe because along with Psychic they all seem supernatural and mystic. But Bug never fit into that. Looking at it as common fears that go against logic and mental strength is really clever.
  11. Why is Psychic weak against Bug?

  15. Despite all the differences there are between the versions, it really just came down to the two Unova exclusive Pokemon: Gothitelle vs. Reuniclus & Mandibuzz vs. Braviary. Like I said, that was a clear choice for me. Every non-Unova Pokemon can be obtained through my other Pokemon games. Legendaries I've never given that big of a hoot about. Trainer battles vs. Wild battles does not really matter to me, although I guess trainer ones are better. Once you get to the metagame it hardly makes a difference which one you choose. So I chose based on what I wanted while playing the story. Which was two Pokemon. I guess there really isn't that big of a difference. Oh, and I guess the aesthetic differences. There are a couple locations where in Black everything is techno-future while in White its rural-classical. I do not know where these locations are and they are limited but hey, it's cool. Imagine if there had been geographical differences in Ruby and Sapphire from Team Magma and Aqua's schemes.
  16. The guy attacks you when you walk in front of him, so you don't even get a chance to touch the fossils. The fossils fully come into view the instant he attacks you, so you don't even do anything. He charges and shouts, "Hey, stop! I found these fossils! They're both mine!" Again, you barely even see the fossils when he says this. If you have never played the game before odds are you might not have noticed the fossils or if you did realized they were fossils. Like Ame said, once you whoop his ass he calms down a bit. "We'll each take a fossil! No being greedy!" Except for the fact that we probably would not have taken his fossils had the jerk not attacked us and then after we defend ourselves he hands one over like a coward.

  18. Well I'VE heard of people not being allowed to use Pokemon Centers ever. You end up having to juggle the potions you find and can afford along with the PP restoring items. I don't think you could even do that if you were not allowed to use the Pokemart, too.
  19. I've heard of this rule before, but usually applied to games where it makes a little sense. Shooters are a common genre (you die, restart the entire game), some RPGs and recently I've seen people applying it to Minecraft (You die, you delete the world.) The first part of the rule makes sense. Instead of fainting Pokemon die, alright. I just don't get the second rule. It doesn't seem to blend with the point of the rules being "realism." There are multiple types in a area, being limited to a one shot does not make sense. There are more than just one Pokemon. I would consider doing the first rule but not the second.
  20. One of two things could have happened: A: They do not take into account the movies / the mini-movies B: The original dialogue did not mention that and it was only in the English dub
  21. As of the new serious in BW001:
According to the narration at the beginning of the episode, Ash is still ten years old (despite the fact the anime has been airing for over thirteen years at this point).
So apparently Ash has somehow managed to travel through 4 regions, defeat all their Gym Leaders, compete in each of their League Tournaments, and countless sidequests in less than a year. Apparently Ash moves fast.
  22. I really wanted to get Black if only to get the less popular version. Like I said before, you need to have people with both versions because you
GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!!!
But unlike previous games where it was personal preference, White appears to be an all around better option. Well, maybe not, only if you are concerned with non-Unova Pokemon. For Unova exclusive Pokemon there are only two normal ones that are different. Black has Gothitelle and Mandibuzz while White has Reuniclus and Braviary. It would appear that Whimsicott and Lilligant are also exclusive, but there is an in-game trade where you trade one for the other so you can still get both in both versions to a degree. Then of course both have there own Legendary Pokemon. Now for me I prefer Reuniclus and Braviary to Gothitelle and Mandibuz so White appears to be the better choice for me. I know Ame prefers Gothitelle and despises Reuniclus which is why he probably got Black. I also prefer Reshiram but one legendary does not outweigh two Pokemon. Again, it just makes me sad. I really want to get Black over White, but I cannot let emotional and unfounded preferences dominate over logic. I just get the feeling that most everyone is going to be getting White. But based on everything I said, there is nothing in Black that I cannot get myself using Platinum and HG except for Reshiram and Tornelos. Oh, and the fact that I hate Iris. Drayden looks sooooooo awesome! He just matches the image of what a Dragon trainer could look like as a hulking and intimidating figure but probably wise, too, because of his white beard. Beards make everyone cooler. Iris is pretty much the same age as Ash or at least a very young child. She should not be the Dragon Gym Leader nor should she be the last Gym! BLAH!
No poll option for neither?
Of course there is an option for that. It's called not voting. I mean, I could have also put, "Do not know yet," "Waiting for "Grey," "Both," etc. but that just gets messy and dilutes the results.
  23. So I was looking up the version exclusives between Black & White trying to decide which game to get. After all, it's usually the version exclusive Pokemon that decide it for most people. Then I noticed that there was an added list about White Forrest. At first I thought neat, here are a bunch of non-Unova Pokemon that are found in the White exclusive area. Now let's see what Black in its counterpart, Black City. Oh, wait, IT GETS NOTHING! What kind of bullshit is this. It's one thing to have version exclusive Pokemon and I expect it, but this is just too far. The list is pretty extensive, too and contains but is not limited to: Abra Machop Gastly Porygon Togepi Ralts Slakoth Trapinch Bagon Budew Happiny You mean to tell me that with White I get the additional access to Pokemon like Machamp, Gallade and Salamence while Black gets no such counterparts. It just seems way too unbalanced between the two versions. Has anyone else noticed this and has it effected your decision on which version you are getting? I just felt like venting about that. Odds are, I'll get whatever version the majority of my friends do NOT get. There's always trading after all. Anyway, this was just going to be me venting about White Forrest, but what the hey. Might as well poll people on which version they are getting and why while I'm at it.

  25.
Meet never-before-seen Pokémon while playing demos of the new Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games
Meh. We've already been so overexposed to Black & White it would be nothing new for most of us. But for the age demographic it's primarily aimed at, good way to get hype.
Watch special screenings of the new Pokémon movie, Pokémon—Zoroark: Master of Illusions. This is your only chance to watch the movie in theaters, and best of all, it's free!
Oooooh, watch it in a theatre. Not that appealing since I regrettably watched it on TV already.
Enjoy a fun hunt around the mall collecting stamps to discover new Pokémon and win cool prizes!
Sounds like fun. Except I'd feel weird being twice the age of everyone else running around silly like. At least I could just toss them out of the way.
Meet some of the new Pokémon characters as well as plenty of other photo opportunities...so remember to bring your camera!
They look creepy for some reason. And Tepig is a quadruped you fools! Too bad I live in a small college town. Knew there was no way they would come up here although they are in the major metropolitan area of my state. Wait a second... *checks calendar* Event takes place during the weekend of my spring break when I go home, my home being in one of the listed cities. Spiffy!
