  1. People have already done a decent job at answering a number of these. Some clarifications. The dilemma is not power, it's legality. Sigmund is regrettably in his rights to take the children back to the orphanage as they're not 18 yet, unlike Laura, Saphira and the protagonist. This eventually happened with the real leaders, but it took a while, legal systems and all. In-game Saphira would be trying as well, but there are a lot of hoops to jump through, some of which would, unfortunately require Sigmund's consent. Not first. She originally had Cradily, but in our online league, she started playing with a triples Sun team that Whimsicott was crucial in setting up. When Laura took over the position, she adopted and refined that strategy. The Sandstorm Grass teams Florinia used to use were much more interesting for her character though, so I adopted that in-game. We write it off as something that happens too quickly to react to, because we can't presume this. The player has just come out of a double battle, and could potentially have only a single pokemon with 1 HP left. Double battle healing canonically is done by your partner after the battle, but there wasn't a moment for Aya to stop and heal you. We can't assume the player would have won that trade. Not to mention the logistics of setting that up are nightmarish... Presumably Lilligant was waiting for an order than never happened, and then it was too late. It certainly wasn't a shining moment for her...
  2. step 1: throw it in a furnace
  3. please do not do this, i don't want to be responsible for broken laptops q-q Personally I've always found Swoobat to be a surprisingly good early game Pokemon. My most recent play-through definitely confirmed it, and I didn't even have Simple.
  4. 20 is a bit much... but regardless, grinding should not be the solution. That's not the goal of this game. Actually, this has been corrected by us, and by the newer versions of Essentials in turn And so every player slightly sighed and marched off to the daycare.
  5. They, along with Decibel ultimately have whatever personality the player wants to give them. That's just how I thought of xem. By all means, don't take my word as the end-all in that regard, because it is basically just a head-canon and won't have any more gravity than that. That said, it's not as if the others don't have personalities. I just don't remember whatever I was thinking of when making them.
  6. Those two diagnoses are correct. To throw a couple others in, Charlotte is diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, and Laura with OCD. Anna might still be spirit medium status-- who knows, really? But Sigmund interprets that as schizophrenia anyway. Asperger's is often characterized by a failure to appropriately expressed emotions. To this end Noel's dialogue is generally awkward and somewhat flat. A couple examples that come to mind are when Cain compliments him at the orphanage and doesn't have anything to say other than just "Yeah," or when the group thinks Saphira might have died, and he doesn't really show any worry or sorrow. As a note, just because an individual doesn't express emotions, doesn't mean they don't feel them. Anyway, this was supposed to be about the protagonists, right? Because they're intentionally blank, all we really can have is individual head-canons for them. Anyone can share those. I honestly don't remember a lot of the head-canons I had for most of them, but I do remember some for Decibel, since xe was the last protagonist I worked on. Like I always imagine Decibel as being especially eccentric and stuck in xyr own head. I think xe would space out a lot, day dreaming about this or the other thing. I also maintain a very strong notion that xe gets extremely fussy about anyone touching or messing up xyr suit.
  7. you people are insane ly talented and it's beautiful
  8. Hey there! I see your art on tumblr quite a bit, and a lot of it is fairly impressive. I'm glad you decided to join up here! There's not much I can say that the others haven't already, but I'll continue looking forward to your work in the future. Welcome!
  9. Although 14.5 isn't a content release, I threw in a couple more Mega-stones. But honestly, good luck finding them. You'll need it.
  10. It is not. But that doesn't really matter because for that are what's important is the map connections... Those maps are narrow enough you will almost never be far away enough from a connection so that it wouldn't lag you. ..which is why I'm confused as to why it doesn't lag more.
  11. Yeah, this is the kind of thing you want to block or ignore. I have this on the site on purpose, because if we lose the battle on net neutrality, then the internet as we know it's gonna look a whole lot different, and Reborn is gonna be struggling to be a part of it.
  12. An additional question for people suffering from server lag in the wasteland: Is the lag constant throughout that entire map, or do you notice some sections are distinctly faster/slower than others? This may inform how I address some of these issues. It will also be helpful if players suffering from lag in either Chrysolia or the Wasteland would post their system specs. (and specify which of those, or both, they have trouble with) For players suffering heavy lag in the Beryl area, is there a specific part of it that lags for you? I.e in/towards the jungle, towards the desert/bridge, around the PULSE, so on? Or is it constant through out? (clever readers will notice that I basically just asked the exact same question about two different areas and phrased it differently. in my defense, it's for entirely different purposes each)
  13. And doesn't really have its own site to host stuff on, on top of that ..speaking of which if we do use a wiki we should probably host it our selves rather than using wikia. If this is something people feel strongly about I would look into setting that up and then turning it over to you guys. @ gaunt, pretty much why I'm not touching it
  14. I personally don't know who's responsible for the tropes page. I also don't really have anything against a wiki, but I have no intention of creating or monitoring it myself. My only real concern about it is that it might encourage new players to just look up things like how to get X pokemon, rather than exploring the game world for themselves. That said, I won't stop anyone if they want to make it.
  15. It's less risk, and more tedium, which I try to avoid.
  16. The general consensus when it was brought up before was that it should be okay as long as the traded Pokemon are both genuinely caught and raised and such.
  17. While this would be better-suited to their community, let's be honest-- Suze is basically our next-door neighbor in terms of games here, and I'm sure a significant chunk of us have played Z/O and Insurgence. I wouldn't wanna make a reddit account personally just to ask a question like that, so if he's already here he may as well. I don't have helpful advice to offer myself, but I do want to clear the air of these comments.
  18. Showdown appears to be back online.
  19. I know what you're talking about. This is actually because of how Essentials loads the content. It has something like 14 tiles in all directions from the player pre-loaded so that when you move in that direction they can appear seamlessly. So, if a connection happens to be within that range, it'll perform much more slowly even though you haven't reached the connection yet. In some maps like Peridot and Obsidia currently, the maps aren't wide enough that you are ever more than 14 tiles away from a connection in some direction or another. The city did look better without, but they help a lot. Anyway, none of those check points are going anywhere. Route 2 needs additional help though.
  20. So here we go again. Let's talk about lag, and why we have it. In Reborn there are two things that cause it: Maps with a lot of events Map connections I'll clarify what some of these terms mean specifically: Events- Events in this context basically refers to... anything that does anything in this game. NPCs, doors, items, light effects, tiles that move or disappear such as the trees in Chrysolia, tiles that jump you over them such as in Route 2, so on and so on. A very small map is likely to have 4-5 of them. A very large or busy map may have around 200. Maps- The map is the area you walk around on as a player. However, when we're talking about individual maps from the development end, it's not always set up in the way the player might expect. For instance, each different floor of a place like Ametrine Mountain is a separate map. However, the interior of all of the houses in Calcenon are on one single map (but big enough and spread out far enough apart that you should never see the insides of other houses from any one of them). The Wasteland is a single out-door map, but the Opal Ward is actually two separate maps linked together by... Map Connections- Rather than using a teleport event as if you were walking through a door, map connections exist in Pokemon Essentials to seamlessly blend map files together. This helps with the classic flowing overworld-style maps that are common to Pokemon games. Incidentally, the main series games have begun doing this much less as of ORAS, which may impact how we proceed in the future. That said, Map Connections appear to be by -far- the bigger offender in terms of causing lag. This is particularly unfortunate, because the documentation for Pokemon Essentials said the opposite- that it was more efficient to cut large maps up and use connections to reduce lag. This has proven to be the opposite of true. However, back in Episode 9.5, and a little more since then too, I took that advice unknowingly and split up/connected a lot of maps in an effort to reduce lag. It didn't work. In fact it probably made it worse. Now, since then, I also split up the city using the classic checkpoint method, which -has- helped a bit, but now the divisions made in 9.5 are causing most of the remaining lag. We will be undoing those splits for 14.5, but this may have the side-effect (seen in 9.5/10) of reactivating old trainers in that area. Nonetheless, here are the areas that will be afflicted: Opal Ward Lower Peridot Central Obsidia North Obsidia Spinel Town Although not a 9.5-born issue, I'll also be adding 'check-point' divisions between Jasper and Malchous (similar to what Chrysolia Forest now has) That said, all of this information does not appear to be infallible, and I have some questions regarding the current state of affairs with lag around certain places, which may impact other areas that get adjusted. However, I've set up a poll to address that in this topic, so I encourage all players to let me know how the areas in question are doing.
  21. This is, in a sense, a continuation of this topic, which explains exactly what's going on with the lag and what we're doing about it. However, despite my explanations in that topic, there are some areas in the game that defy expectation in regards to lag. To be more specific, I've been very surprised that I -haven't- heard more complaints of lag in these areas, for various reasons. So, consider this a double-check to make sure I haven't just missed concerns in these areas. Beryl Ward/Rhodochrine Jungle Apophyll Beach I'll be honest, if anything has made me question if map connections really cause lag, it's these two areas. Because quite frankly, they both have a -ton- of them. Despite that I've always gotten many more comments about Peridot, Opal and Obsidia which have only had a few around them. Byxbysion Wasteland Ametrine City/peak area These two maps have no map connections, but a ton of events, and I was always surprised I didn't have to split them up for that alone. That said, in my experience Ametrine City in particular has performed excellently beyond all expectation otherwise. I was anticipating it to be a disaster actually, because everything from the city to the peak is one single map. It is by far the largest map in the game and has about 200 events to boot. By contrast, the Wasteland has over 300 events. In contrast to the above... Chrysolia Forest Route 2 These areas have been historically problematic, and unlike the others, my understanding is that they still are, but I want to do a check to make sure and compare the poll numbers. In the past, Chrysolia Forest was plagued by hundreds of events (almost exactly 300) -and- several map connections. Route 2 is currently in that state, but I want to see how it compares to the forest itself. I currently am not 100% sure on what my solution for Route 2 will be. Additionally, if there's another area of concern you have that I haven't mentioned, please tell me in a post. When rating the lag in these areas, I've set up the poll for three points No apparent lag It may have a little lag, but it doesn't affect your gameplay experience Lag severe enough to diminish the feel of the game All feedback will be helpful. Thanks ahead of time!
  22. This isn't said explicitly in game so I suppose I can clarify. Indeed, the two never fight. Heather sneaks up to the storage shack to get more food to distribute, and Blake, who has already found out she was doing that, locks her in.
