self-explanatory really, which one did you play first of each gen? remakes count as the gen the originals came out in. so HGSS counts as gen 2

Technically remakes aren't actually the same generation as the originals but I get what you mean in this case. I'll do it by order which I played:

 

Gen 1: red - first played over a friend's house

Gen 2: silver - first pokemon game I owned

Gen 4: Diamond - got me back into pokemon after I dropped it in middle school. I was in...11th grade I believe?

Gen 3: Emerald - via emulator.

Gen 5: White -first one I bought with my own money., preordered too lol.

Gen 6: X - same as above. I actually really enjoyed it first time due to the novelty of 3D although I still preferred gen 5. Poison's buff and fairy were cool too.

Gen 7: Sun - midnight release. Long line out the door and halfway into the parking lot. Totes worth it, I still have the poster that came with it in my closet.

 

No switch, so I'm afraid my journey with pokemon main releases will have to end with gen 7. But I'll always have reborn/fangames and the decade+ of games I own already. It's been an amazing ride. I love this franchise.

 

I notice the darker versions appealed more to Reborn initially. Hmmm kind of fits actually lol.

And take out X and Sun for me... Buy a 3DS for 2 games is not really what you could call "cheap" *looks at Citra, hoping desperately it will one day be possible to play a pokemon game on it without too much lag*

This, 100%. Love my 3DS. I got it looking forward to future Pokémon titles at the time, but there are so many great games on it! I'd shudder to know how many hours my 3DS and New3DS have put in between various Monster Hunters, Pokémon, Shin Megami Tenseis, and Phoenix Writes.
