  1. I recently played the demo. I knew about it since 2020, but didn't get around to play it until now. It was fun! I like the action elements. I have never really played a tRPG (or a rhythm game, lol), but I think without the action I would find it either too boring or too complex. I died two times (well, actually it was always Glasya) because Glasya's animations causes the bars to lag hard. I just thought "eh, cass will optimize it eventually". I had to play on low spec mode because of the black screen. After finishing the demo, I read here to run the game on my graphics card (which it didn't by default). I booted up the game again, could now turn low spec mode off, and the game ran smoothly. It felt like I was playing on easy mode. Oh, well. I experimented with separating and joining Glasya and Lynnoe, but I couldn't find an advantage of separating, so I kept them togehter. I'm not sure if I understood ranged attacks correctly. You move the bar over the target and then just press A three times before the timer runs out? No rhythm game like with regular attacks? That seems weird as it might be easier than a regular attack. I would expect the ranged attack to be like a regular attack plus an additional challenge or similar but harder. For example aligning the bar and in case of success, then executing the regular attack. So that it is definitely harder than a regular attack. During the escape sequence I wasn't sure of the way to go. It wasn't obvious which tiles on the map are traversable and which are not. An optional technical view of the entire map, that shows that with colours, would be nice. Or did I miss something? But in this case the intuitive way was the right one, so I found it rightaway. The music is fire. It gives me Reborn vibes in a good way. The dialogue character art looks great. I empathize with Nova, she looks like she's having the worst hangover. Probably from drinking too much water. Favorite character: ARDA. Even before it took a role in the plot. Just by moving in battle like every regular unit, it won my heart.
  2. This is also one of my technical QoL wishes I was thinking about making a separate thread about once the release dust has settled and more urgent bugs have been fixed. I also play with controller (Windows) and would like the Alt, Ctrl and F12 keys to be mappable to the controller. Otherwise I'd have to map my controller to keyboard keys. In E18 it was possible to reconfigure the fast-forward key, from an in-game menu even, without needing your computer mouse. Having it fixed to the Alt key is annoying for me as it interferes with other keyboard shortcuts. Also, I'd like to run multiple games on the same machine, as is possible with emulators, for doing speedrun races on the couch with friends. For that I'd need fully customizable controls per game. Plus a customizable save game location and the game accepting inputs while the window is not in focus. I don't know how hard that is to implement for a game like Reborn, but that would provide even more ways to enjoy this amazing game. I noticed the configurable keys being listed at the end of the mkxp.json. Is it possible to make the Alt, Ctrl and F12 keys configurable by adding them there or are they somehow technically excluded?
  3. Wow, that TM menu is just beautiful. Great idea.
  4. game theoretically optimal AI playing Nash equilibria when?
  5. As this post shows perfecty, programming isn't some witchcraft you need to know a lot of theory for, but much about clever design. With 10 years of experience you can still write messy and incomprehensible code (and many people do) if you don't question your style. Simple and beautiful structures are always a good aim to go for. Writing 500 lines for a complicated new feature is cool, but replacing a 300 lines script by a 30 lines function feels the best. And, like here, often simplifies future extensions of the code. You don't learn good design in courses, anyway. I learned the basics of a programming language and computer science in university, which was helpful, but I got good by putting together big and small private projects I cared for. Language doesn't really matter, once you got your foot in the door, learning new languages doesn't pose much of a problem. You can figure everything out by Google, Stackoverflow, or sometimes three hours of debugging.
  6. I'm fine with Zeraora being in Chrysolia Cave
  7. I used to appreciate to appreciate mechanics being canon for comparability and easier look-up of learnsets. But now that canon is this arbitrary mess, I really don't care for that anymore. I'm even glad gen 8 is left out, so I don't have to deal with it (at least for now). With 807 Pokémon I don't exactly need more variety and I definitely don't need dynamaxing.

  9. Everything here is amazing. The Battle Factory is hype as hell and the three modes are cool and make sense. The field effect "preview" in the overworld is really neat and increases immersion. All other graphics shown here look beautiful as well. The other modes are additional (rare) candy and of course this is Reborn and everything packs a hard mode <3

  11. A release of the finished version might draw the attention of a certain video game company. The main game was fully finished and tested though, in case they have to drop the project for any reason. I think it's also a good design choice. After finishing a great game people are usually hyped for what the post game has to offer. After finishing a great game and waiting a year maybe not as much anymore.
  12. I really hope Gen 8 doesn't get added. I might be biased because I didn't like Gen 7 and stopped playing the main series after that, but Gen 8 would complicate many things. First, it removed more moves and Pokémon than it added, so would those moves also be removed and if not, would that break the balance? Some Pokémon getting stat and movelist improvements while others don't would probably skew the balance as well. Also Dynamaxing is just a boring mechanic. I remember the point where it was said that Gen 7 wouldn't be added to the game and I would have been happy with that as I liked the Pokémon selection and balance in Gen 6. Although Gen 7 did some fine adjustments to status ailments, it was also the point where GameFreak started unnaturally overbalancing some things. Dark Void's accuracy getting reduced from 80% to 50% is just ridiculous.
  13. We already have a party going. Join us here. Edit: fixed in 18.4.3
  14. As I noticed these lines automatically skipping by way too fast I always thought they must be separate text formatting mistakes regarding the line width, maybe exclusive to my font. Glad the real culprit is finally found and we are rid of these offputting dialogue hickups!
