  1. I'm personally a big fan of Mega Altaria. It's got some deceptively good defenses, huge flexibility, and an extremely good STAB combination. Of course, if you're an adventurer who's bashing their head against Ciel over and over again, that flexibility isn't really taken advantage of, the STAB combo doesn't really hurt you because you can't use many dragons, and you can very easily exploit type advantage to ensure Altaria takes huge hits due to single player switching mechanics. In other words, it's a much stronger 'mon in competitive than here, even factoring in the field effects being a rather massive boon. Then again, there aren't a whole lot of megas that I could name that would be much better in this situation, especially flying megas. With only Charizard Y, Aerodactyl, Pidgeot, Salamence, and Rayquaza providing Flying typing both with and without mega (plus Altaria and Pinsir for 'mons who provide it in one or the other), I can only really see Pinsir taking decent advantage from the field (due to fighting type moves and such), and Pinsir absolutely doesn't fit the theme that Ciel has going. Altaria does, plus it abuses the field fantastically. And I could see some sort of drama air show going on, with pokemon like Gliscor and Archeops serving as villains while Talonflame and/or Noivern serving as heroes to rescue the poor, helpless Togetic/Altaria.
  2. I'm currently doing a second run to see what it's like to have easy mode enabled a fire type starter (my starter for the first one was a Contrary Serperior, so it wasn't that great until level 62, at which point it put me on its back and carried me against everything but gyms with a type advantage) and to challenge myself to use some new 'mons (Can't use any pokemon that I used in my last run). Dark type monorun is currently on hold. But I'm curious, what kind of game is Rejuvenation in comparison? I've seen a little bit on the forums about it, but I'm not sure what it's like or how it compares to Reborn.
  3. I think you're getting really unlucky, I've never gone NEARLY that long between pokemon when headbutting trees. Can check to confirm, will let you know how many headbutts it takes me. Edit: NEVERMIND. Took me about 25 headbutts to get a repeat, with switching trees, hopping into the Grand Hall, and everything. I'm suspecting this might be time based and that you'll just need to headbutt, then try again in a couple minutes, but can't confirm right now. Edit2: Went and did a little bit of testing, I'd guess that waiting in between headbutt sprees very much increases your probability of getting a pokemon, but spamming is still a good bit quicker if you've got nothing better to do.
  4. True 'nuff, though I still enjoyed having it around, especially on that particular run, as I lacked ground presence and didn't think to pick up a Piloswine and also screwed Aya over pretty hard with Earth Power. And to be really, really specific, once you get rock smash (and can use it outside of battle), you can simply head up to Beryl and head east across the bridge until you reach the Abandoned Power Plant. From there, head south, smash that rock, and you can access Citrine mountain, where you can run around until a Swinub attacks you. I'd say keep the numel around for now. You'll have a pretty noticable weakness to water, but that should be reduced once you get some more 'mons.
  5. Hariyama's a really solid fighting type to start off with, not to mention Scrafty and Pangoro being a couple choice picks that I enjoy. There are a number of early available Fighters, you just need to look around and be willing to try 'mons that are often viewed as weak or mediocre.
  6. Growlithe's a really solid pokemon with excellent coverage, speed, and offense, but Numel/Camerupt is also a really great pokemon. You get early ground type STAB with Earth power, field changing ability with Lava Plume/Flame Burst, and its low speed is offset by some really solid bulk. I'd probably agree with changing out Numel for Growlithe just because you already have Marshtomp on the team and will be able to get a piloswine around level 30-38, but there's not really going to be a point where Numel stops pulling weight. Replacing Kricketune with Growlithe might be a better option for now, as Kricketune really does stop pulling its weight around the level 30 mark.
  7. I did, it wasn't anything amazing, you just run down through that pipe area that you'll be shoving trash into before you actually shove trash in there.
  8. Yes, though I doubt he's in as deep as Fern/Blake/Sigmund are. He'd probably object to most of the things they're doing and realize that Elias is just using him. Besides, most of his goals are centered around Luna and the E4. If he could get introduced to someone like Laura who is (was?) an actual member of the E4, he'd probably leave Elias pretty quick.
  9. I didn't know about it I'm poor I'm bad Good idea, I'll do that in my next playthroughs. Thanks for the advice!
  10. WELCOME! As you've probably noticed, you've got Chubb on your left, Vinny on your right, SHIA... I don't know where SHIA is, might be eating cake... But anyway, a very active community with friendly members (many of whom I didn't name). Don't hesitate to ask for help or advice, only SHIA bites and they're not here right now. Best of luck and have fun!
  11. Not looking for an Avi at this point though if someone has a good one of Absol or random awesome fanart or something I wouldn't mind, but I'll throw in a couple here that people might like (some cropping required):
  12. WELCOME! As you've probably noticed, everyone around here is crazy... I'm not sure how I wanted to follow that up. Anyway, I'll ask some more questions to engage discussion and find out more information. For example, what is your favorite anime? Favorite game(s)? Favorite pun(s)? Favorite questions to be asked?
  13. WELCOME! I think you're really going to enjoy Reborn, so I'll try to help and address some of your points. The music is quite good. Also quite loud, so if you're not on a Windows computer it may get difficult to listen to. The difficulty is fairly high, the opposing gym leaders will have pokemon you don't have access to, will use moves from TMs you can't get, and often have fields that take advantage of their typing, but all this can be overcome with smart strategy, field manipulation, and perseverance. Ralts is available via event between your fifth and sixth gym battles. If you REALLY want that Gardevoir, you may want to look up how to get it after beating the fifth gym. Attrition is rare, with only two spots in the game really using it enough to be noticeable for me, though if you're a really savvy battler and/or leveled enough for those areas (I didn't), you may not even notice the attrition there. The storyline starts out sort of... standard for a pokemon game, though much darker and with much better atmosphere. That changes (IMO) around the time when you get your third badge, as you start to learn new things and the story kicks it into high gear, though it does downshift around the sixth to seventh badge range and again in the tenth to eleventh. Best of luck and enjoy your stay!
  14. Weather was thunderstorm, but I'm not sure weather was a factor for the Tynamo one, there's a Super Potion where Tynamo is in your picture. The weather/day might have influenced the Gulpin event, but I'm not sure the Tynamo one would take the place of an item during a particular time. Current reborn version is the one on the main download page right now btw. Edit: ...Facepalm. Thank you for your help, I just had to waltz up to the pole behind the Super potion. Thank you very much for your help.
  15. Just started a new Ep15 run, and decided I'd see if I can't catch a Tynamo. I went into the alleyway northeast of the first pokemon center (where I'd heard it spawns), and checked there. No Tynamo, just a Super Potion where it should be. Has that event been moved? I also checked for Gulpin in the spot I'd heard it spawned and found nothing. Has that event been moved as well?
  16. But we finally have a legit reason to beat him into the ground. Think about all the possibilities! He's never been that hard, we just wreck his face (again), take him prisoner, and torture him for information that he may or may not have. IT'S FOOLPROOF!
  17. Nope, that's the only hidden one I ever found.
  18. WELCOME! As you've probably noticed, wonderfully friendly group of people on the forums. Unless you touch SHIA's cake or otherwise invite others to touch it. Then things get kinda painful. But hey, maybe you'll find a cute space ferret who'll give you cake...
  19. I'd assume Tania will be just a little more cautious with her diary in future after that little fiasco. I personally think that Amaria will get her memories back, likely after we take down Tania for her gym badge and will be a little teary and down for a bit, but will likely go through a gym battle and realize how awesome she is, forgive Tania and figure out where she wants to go from there. Maybe I'm too optimistic, or maybe we really will get a happy ending for a troubled gym leader this time.
  20. O.o Working as intended then. Was wondering if that was a glitch. Carry on then, really looking forward to the next Episode!
  21. WELCOME! There's straightjackets to your left, cake to your right, and references front and center. But don't touch those, those are mine. Hope you enjoy your time here and best of luck!
  22. I found Florina to be spectacularly unhelpful in the second battle more than the third. Against Blake's Ice team and Fern's Grass team, I kept watching Flobot put out a grass type and watch it get OHKO'd... again... and again... and again... Granted, I also managed to beat the third battle on the first try, partly due to Solaris destroying his own partner's pokemon, partly due to Flobot having about three pokemon left to take down that Garchomp with by the end. I also kept getting ground down by Flo's sandstorm due to her leading Hippowdon as well, which actually irritated me more than random explosions would have (at least explosions would have hurt my opponents just as much as me). I also had a fair number of pokemon that were immune to EQ, so when I watched Torterra and Hippowdon facing off against electric types without using a single ground type move, I got a bit irritated. Would it be possible to work the AI so that Flo could tell when her EQs wouldn't hurt her allies?
  23. I think someone missed the PULSE Clawitzer artillery assault on Calcenon city, though that was less "Meteor is getting desperate" and more "Meteor is doing well for themselves." Honestly, throwing random killing into the mix wouldn't work with the game's feel, especially with what's been going on lately as far as events. When deaths become a numbers game, things just escalate until entire sections of the city are being wiped out with the player just saying "meh." Better to have more subtle situations like with Beryl/Jasper and save an all out war with Meteor for the climax. And we ARE limited on good TMs/tutors. If you're complaining that the game's too easy and that it's not fun because of that and yet you're not willing to change anything up to make things harder for yourself, nobody's going to listen. If you want more of a handicap, make one yourself. Don't use any of the 'mons that were on your team in your previous run. Only use pokemon that have less than 500 BST. Don't use any TMs or move tutors besides the needed HM moves. Quit complaining and either do something to make your game more fun for yourself or go play a different game.
  24. I fought him out of pragmatism and a return of all the favors he's been doing me though that Chatot is a horrible demon, as he does give great experience in an area of the game where that's in short supply and I'd rather not lose out on my inside man. But looking at how things are going and how cold Solaris is towards everyone, I don't think he's going to hesitate to take down his own son, possibly via death by example via Chandelure, similar to Eclipse went down (or was it Aster?).
  25. Books are the boring option? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!?!? I don't really have the patience right now to go through breeding, but I'll probably pick up some new 'mons and get some training in now that I'm back in Reborn City, the land of endless experience that doesn't take forever repeatable trainer battles. Still want to get that dark type run started sooner rather than later, though. Now that I think about it though, Flobot's gonna be kinda hard...
