"oh hey heroes of the storm is getting a progression revamp in line with overwatch, I might give it a second look, lemme check the forums for some metagame discuss---"
SALT SALT SALT SALT "add this hero" "add that voice pack" like dear god where do I go to actually talk about the game?!

ik this is a bit late but I missed this commentar and it's awesome.
HotS was never meant to be a competitive game, the matches are just too scripted. Also a lot of tactical gameplay options that are in mobas aren't in HotS, specifically to make the game more newbie-accessible. The flip side of this is that it took me up until today to actually find good advice on game flow and team composition, b/c I keep getting "oh there's no meta".
Hearthstone is just too rng-heavy and strategy-light for a competitive game. I mean, people talk about getting mana screwed in other games, but in HS a good chunk of a lot of meta decks is "this card will probably do something good for me, and the other guy probably doesn't have a counter to it".
The only HS face that I care about is Trump, but I don't even play the game any more. The massive time investment to even get a good budget deck, let alone a meta deck or god forbid, a control deck, is just silly. I could play hearthstone and maybe have fun in six months, or I could load up warframe and have fun right now. I just watch Trump's matches and live vicariously through him.
I went and watched a bit of grubby's stream, he seems great. I also watched a bit of MF Pallytime (Utube) to get an overview of how a few heroes feel in combat.
I also feel like competitive OW is the same way, despite how popular it is. There REALLY should have been more of a wait between the game launching and esports being a thing on it IMO. Just a few more months before we get to "everyone plays what the pros do despite not having the skills to make it work"
also (this is getting kinda ranty, isn't it), the subreddit (for Hots) was really terribly managed. imo all the hearthstone 2.0 discussion should have had its own flair so I could blacklist it, stuff was taking up most of the front page.
At least League could separate out its forums, so you had a mix of memes and gameplay concerns. blizzard has 3 subforums, one for competitive, one for bug reports, and a "general discussion" aka salt mining.
I'm really saddened by what's happened to SC2. It seems like its scene has dwindled down to a few hyperpros, and then.....nobody else. I want to like the game (i love the setting+characters) but there's so much to learn to even get to a vaguely competent skill level that I just....no way.

@doombotmecha I'm going to tell you now Control is actually straight up aren't viable in Hearthstone anymore. Like it's... not possible to play it without just losing due to the fact that Aggro and Midrange decks are too powerful and impossible for it to control down. Jade decks just have infinite value at least Jade Druid does for sure as they just get free scaling minions with cards and Jade Idol, making it impossible to control them down and further, Pirate Aggro is the most disgusting thing in the universe.
more or less gaining a free 1/1 with charge as it is played from your deck onto the board jsut for playing a pirate is BANANAS. Aggro already has an advantage in Hearthstone due to the fact that you CHOOSE your targets with your minions attacks. As this is the case Aggro already has an edge. They have more tools then ever now to generate free value while control doesn't really get much to help them survive. And, if they tech to beat aggro, they will have a lot of dead cards into the Jade match-up. Basically... control is nigh impossible to pull off these days due to the overwhelming disgusting power of these archetypes.
For SC2, ye RTS is stupid difficult. The main thing though is it never caught on in South Korea. So, while a lot of the pros are from there, very little of the viewer base is. As a result the scene has jsust been dying and it's cause that game has a learning cliff of which your expected to climb. Worse is with the Brood Wars remaster coming out most are jumping back to Starcraft 1. ((and that's weird as heck to say. A game's predecessor is probably going to kill it's comp scene completely.)) but ye, to learn SC2 or... really a lot of RTS you nearly have to dedicate your entire life to it they are just that hard to master and learn.

yeah, I've heard of the horrors of Pirate Warrior. They're literally releasing a card in the new set with the effect "eat a pirate". It didn't help that all the taunt cards bliz releases are either niche, locked to warrior, or trash.
People HOWLED after whispers of the old gods, about "C'thun this" and "Yogg that" but frankly that was the healthiest the game's been in a while, and might be for a while yet. we had a reprieve from secret paladin at last. I remember getting bodied by that deck at rank 20, if the pally curves out then there's just nothing you can do.....
HS just generally has a lot of wonky balance descisions. Purify is literal actual trash, whereas Flamewalker just made mage broken for like 90% of tavern brawls.
what I've heard about high-level starcraft 2 is that one early attack generally decides the game, and brood war wasn't like that as much. Like, you either scout the whatever-whatever timing attack, or it kills your worker line and you lose.

Back to the fairy tale, back to the show~
Finally picking up this game again, gonna try and get through the final three gym leaders and finally be caught up for once in this game's history.
-
A part of me wants to go try Pokemon Insurgence again, given all the cool Deltas and Megas, but then I remember that the first gym is a competitive sun team with drought Vulpix directly into Chlorophyll Ivysaur with sleep powder and solarbeam. Why would a first gym have a 120 bp move at level 25? I dunno.
Also it's an 8-gym game that ends around level 100 and most of the really cool Deltas are postgame.

Actually realizing 10 months later that what killed Infinite Fusion for me wasn't the typings, but the fact that I needed to grind out 160 total victories in the (boring as hell) trainer house in order to get Porygon-Z to finish my team. So since I've stalled out, here's my final team just pre-victory road, for posterity:
Gyarados/Dugtrio (Water/Ground, Intimidate)
Zapdos (Electric/Flying, Pressure)
Gengar/Porygon-2(Ghost Normal, Levitate)
Beedrill/Primeape (Bug/Fighting, honestly I don't even remember)
Scyther/Machoke (Bug/Fighting, Technician)

alright, so I finally have FE heroes.
first pulls--
Sheena: tanky as shit, not fast but I forgive her. 4 stars.
Niles: the one guy I actually know. 4 stars, rank: bisexual disaster.
Lissa: I have seen two episodes of an Awakening lp and you were in them, so four for you, healer girl. also the only healer. probably isn't paid enough. 4 stars.
Raigh: my only mage. idk what else about him. 4 stars. i think.
Est: ???? she flies tho. 3 stars.
Est II: ???????? another flier, also three stars. probably a traitor in disguise.

yeah Hutch he's like the only mage I've got so far, as soon as I can get another I'm ditching him
Sheena also seems to have a slow level-stat rate. Is that just par for the course for fire emblem "big guys?" iirc that's the archetype's "shtick", which is kinda sad given that the armored slow-and-steady advance is kinda fun to work around for me.
The ests are, like, raigh's polar opposite though. despite both being three stars, they deal incredible damage, and using the same healer on all my squads means that Lissa is high-level-enough to heal any damage they take, meaning that as long as they don't get downed in one turn, I can make them more or less invincible. On the other hand, they're so squishy that they can only engage foes one-at-time.
I've decided to name them est. (established) and EST (eastern standard time).
also, i'm figuring that the most efficient way to summon is 20 orbs at a time, so I'll pull when I get another twenty.

And the mystery egg is........
Togepi!
...I have no idea how I'm gonna salvage this one; unless my memory has failed me and we get a move reminder before we get done with Azurine Island, this thing has less of an offensive move pool and more a move *puddle*. It even conflicts with the Swoobat I'm already training...
It's Noibat all over again.

anyone else see the new healthcare bill?
holy hell. medicaid cut by 25% over ten years, caps on children and the elderly, states no longer have to reimburse schools as medicaid providers...
just.....fuck.
-
arghhhhh I have a beldum but nothing I want to sub him out for I'm gonna have to just make a whole new team aren't I
and then just have a second full team
idk what i'd do with it tho

Back in the saddle--just spent an hour today training Gastrodon and Cofagrigus. I should have held back yamask for the faster levels, but I thought mayyybe cofa could down the maccargos in pyrous Mountain by herself. She can.... sometimes.
Cofagrigus is my first specially bred and EV trained Pokemon, with toxic spikes and 100+ def evs and counting. I think she has the highest defense of Pokemon I own rn, and she's only 36!
edit: both Gastrodon ("Shelly") and Cofagrigius ("Cleo") are now level 38. Cleo has 117 defense EVs and a stat of 126. I'm trying to get her tanky to 1. hazard-set against physical opponents and 2. tank garchomp in the upcoming fight so she can set curse before she dies, as I'm hoping to save my focus sash for another time.

Beat Narcissa! and she gave me Shadow Ball!!!
Thanks Jan for your Incredible generosity, I'll make good use of this!!!
-
No, not at all! IMO that's the strongest lead yet! Although I'm not sure if it has Unburden or Flare Boost. I...actually made a thread asking for suggestions on what to do, before beating her before it could get any replies. Turns out the trick is weakening Drifblim by soft-resetting until it misses hypnosis, then making it whiff hypnosis against my flasher Prankster Volbeat with accuracy/field drops, then lucking into it continuing to fail to sleep me until it died to its own burn.......
After that, Blessed Mimikyu was a terror, but the rest of her mons were much more manageable. I sacrificed swampert (rare candy trick) to Mimi in order to have my Lycanroc come in and sweep two more mons with Thrash, after which I the field got reset by Rotom and I got really lucky because I got several Ominous Wind procs on Xatu, so it swept Rotom and Dusclops while heavily damaging Chandelure, after which Lycanroc was able to easily finish it off.
Now to reap the sweet, sweet rewards......I really appreciate the free Nasty Plot on that Misdreavus, and SBall really opens up a new world of coverage. I'm not sure exactly what I'll use it on, but I may give up Medicham for the time being, and sub Xatu out for Gothitelle. The Bird's gotta fall off sometime, right?
Also sidenote but I think main games are forever ruined for me. Geara whipped out friggin' Giratina in a double battle and I just kinda powered through it. I still can't believe that's a thing that happened.
"then what's in......."
>_>

Citrine mountain, just before shade's gym, is such a high-risk place to train. Like, even the level 27 chubchoo are fast enough to chip some Pokemon, and every once in a while you run into a simple CM woobat, or an over levelled Donphan, or a level 48 beartic...not the one in the basement btw, I mean a WILD level 48 ice bear.
On the upside, I've got two shiny Swinub already, and Close Combat Snubbul (my current project, going up to 37 for Play Rough to take on the Scraggy event) makes short work of the ice types.

Common features between all the reborn kids:
insane difficulty
convoluted story
weak early mons
a killer soundtrack
your ride in gets *ed
-
does anyone know a good Fire Emblem: Awakening let's play?
I'm looking to use it as something of a difficulty guide for what to expect from Conquest later on, without spoiling Conq for myself.
-
downloading Insurgence on my new laptop. Hopefully this run will go better than my earlier ones...
Orion is a super tough gym leader. You basically need a team tailored to him, which is kinda sad since all the early mons in Insurgence are amazing.

FDR makes dinner: The New Meal
FDR goes to the fishing shop: for a New Reel
FDR opens a car dealership: The New Wheels
-
FE news: Who's on a horse now, losers?
WF news: also I just got done levelling zhuge. I'll have to try it again later. I also have an infested dog now.
-
Finally at Corey again...the first gym I ever lost to, every run he's a massive hump to get over. Plus, I finished the police quest before fighting Taka+ZEL, so I'll be going up against the gas field for the first time. Wish me luck!
Edit: victorious on the second try. Even critting with Nasty Plot and a 3 level advantage, Crobat couldn't break Klink once I started stacking Charge. I have a new and serious appreciation for this pokemon. Shame that I'll probably have to dump it now, since I'm planning to light Shelly on fire and when I get to Shade I'll have access to Magneton for a steel type. Oh well...
-
Finally finished episode 2 of Gen:LOCK. I'm so psyched! I'm very happy with how RT has finally gotten a diverse set of main characters, I love Tennant as Dr. Weller, and the Power Ranger vibes from the different color mechs really speak to me.
And that opening? Is a damn banger.
-
Finally pulled Axzura from the PA banner. Now I've got everything I want
Also, new Reborn run starting today. Starting with Torchic, let's see how it goes!
-
Finally, after ten thousand years
I'm freeI got valkyr prime's chassis and now I can build her. She's my main, so I'm freaking STOKED.Also I have ash prime building, and I'm not totally sure how I got him.
-
yeah, my favorite thing to do is take D. Nikana, head into a survival, and then warcry into the block combo and just slaughter everything I touch. She was also the frame that got me through most of the starchart, including Second Dream and The War Within. I'm also gonna start to forma Zarr, potato Jat Kittag, and build Kohmak/Twin Kohmak so she has a full loadout to play with.
Ash P was a real oddity, I just randomly got all the parts at once. I would've sold him for ducats, but i only sell on days that baro brings something good. Even funnier, I only got ash a week ago, and he isn't my favorite either, so he's not even maxed yet!
My next prime after these two is probably gonna be Nekros, so I finally can potato him and fit on Equilibrium.
