If you could make your own mega evolution...
NickCrash replied to Lord Chespin's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
I should repeat that HP cannot get a boost, even if it's a single point in it. Original Bibarel stats: HP: 79 Atk: 85 Def: 60 SpA: 55 SpD: 60 Spe: 71 It appears you gave Bibs a solid 96 points. I wonder why you kept those 4 back. I suppose a Mega Bibarel with a full +100 boost is too much, isn't it? -
I don't suppose we get strong pokemon, but I'm expecting a "Magikarp-sub salesman" in the next town we visit. It is a must, since we get into a desert and they are notorious for not having an oasis in canon games.

Yes, that's more or less what I had in mind. -
Praise The Sun... and Moon - Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon
NickCrash replied to Godot's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
Of course! If you take a look at the sprites, they are expressing emotion. Now, most pokemon do not have that, because their 3D animations are wobbling right and left and their faces look pale and unexpressive. Take Haunter as your prime example. From the time of Red (and with it's highest points in Emerald and HeartGold) it looked sinister, sly and ... dangerous. The 3D sprite we are using now showcases its contest with Slowbro in terms of derpy-ness. Another is Nidoking. Notice how its stance projects it as the alpha male, always angry and ready to defend its area, in every single pokemon game. Now it just looks... constipated. -

They only need to upgrade some move animations and refine certain models that appear to have lost character with the change to 3D. -
I also decided to do one for each type, just because I can. No NFE. No Ubers.

Last time it was a Koffing. I hope this time I get something much better!!! . . . ... crap

Hey, old fella! How are things? We sure miss you around here. Happy Birthday and ... I have no idea how to greet and make a wish for a sailing-enthusiast but at least I can wish you all the best in your army school. People around here don't know you, but they'll learn to love you. That of course if you decide to make a return, a full return for that matter. Stay happy, stay in school ( ) and away from the sharks (also metaphorically speaking)

If you could make your own mega evolution...
NickCrash replied to Lord Chespin's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
Time to bring this topic back to life! I'm bringing you a Mega Evolution for a pokemon we all love and care about! A pokemon used by every single trainer who has ever played X and Y. Mega Gogoat Type: Grass / Rock Ability: Mold Breaker HP: 123 Atk: 100 --> 130 (+30) Def: 62 --> 72 (+10) SpA: 97 --> 127 (+30) SpD: 81 --> 91 (+10) Spe: 68 --> 88 (+20) I want you all to imagine how awesome the design for such a pokemon should be. Gogoat was introduced to us as a nice alternative to a bicycle and is a pokemon that, no matter how bad it currently is competitive-wise, we all wanted to have in our teams because of its design and concept. What I did was turn this adorable little fellow into a viable choice for the competitive scene, that can be used in a variety of ways. Yes, it took a lot of time to think of the appropriate Ability, Typing and Stat Distribution, and I can honestly say I'm satisfied with the result. Now Gogoat is no more just another pokemon you catch for pokedex completion. It can work as a physical or a special wallbreaker, a defensive tank, either mixed or specialized in Def or SpD, a mixed attacker, or even a utility pokemon that can spam toxic / leech seed and phaze pokemon at will. Gogoat has access to several fighting options, including reliable recovery, damage output in both spectrums, and few, although useful, support moves to deal with Stall. It's speed may be lackluster but one cannot wish for everything in life. Gogoat has the tools to overcome its weaknesses. It just needed a boost in the form of a Mega. I don't know what you think, but as far as I am concerned, this is a pokemon I would definitely ride into battle. -
Since this thread is about the concept of M-Nidoking in general, it's ok to discuss the possible Sprites/Artwork and Stat Distribution/Abilities but if you have other takes on the mon, there's this topic about "Creating your own Mega Evolution" which you can visit and make a creation of your own. Bare in mind, there are rules there too, even if not stated in the OP. Now, back to the subject. I wish I could put the appopriate GIF image here, but Huge Power on Nidoking is a big NO from me. We were even discussing whether the 125 base Atk stat was too much given Sheer Force. M-Medicham with 100 base Atk got Huge Power and it's already a very threatening mega with priority moves. If Nido were to take it, all the 100 boost would be given to the other stats, effectively making it broken in more ways than 1. Obviously you cannot just strap Huge Power or Adaptability on anything! GF learned from its mistakes when it gave M-Lopunny Scrappy and a ton of Speed and Attack, as well as OP moves. We should follow the good examples not the bad. Edit: Here's the rules. Just scroll down. http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13705&page=3

I do not understand why he forfeited in the last one. He had a certain win. Also, if Thundurus had T-wave, you were also dead. Since most don't have it, I suppose he thought Keldeo brought you to Hp-ice range...
-
Nidoking justifies its use with Life Orb / Choice Scarf + Sheer Force boosts to make up for its lousy SpA stat. Originally it was designed as a physical attacker and, even if it's way better on the special side, in Gen6 GF decided to give it a 10 points boost to.... Attack. I would love to see a M-Nidoking, and your stat distribution looks good enough. However there is one problem: You cannot add HP. So, I'd suggest you divide that extra 10 into Speed and make it a threat that goes over the 100 speed tier. It's much more threatening this way IMO

So you are saying that the final evolution has no physical abilities... Noted.

I understand your points, and I've already got a pm from other people asking me why I like slow Latias so much I'm checking various options. The version posted above is the most refined one. I had also tried to use Starmie as a Rapid Spinner, but Latias was much better for the role. What could I switch Bisharp for if I decide to give Lando-t Knock Off?

Thank you for your suggestions, but this is hardly a HO team. All members, bar Manectric, are slow and designed to be able to tank some hits. Landorus-T and Latias form the defensive core. Therefore, the Latias build allows for maximum survivability, as most super effective special hits deal ~30% when unboosted or not STAB. Same goes for Lando-t that specialises on the defensive, while still tanking non-super effective hits. If I were to let it take an HP-ice from M-Mane head on, it would be useless for the rest of the game, especially without Latias around to clear the rocks. Maintaining my Volt/Turn strategy is more essential than scoring an easy KO on Manectric (which has no recovery and will die from chip damage anyway). At the same time, Latias completely counters Manectric, which cannot deal significant damage with HP-ice, and even checks Gengar with Psyshock (Shadow Ball does max 69%). If I were to switch to the 100% Clefable set and put Knock Off on Landorus, I might need to change Bisharp's set completely or find a different pokemon for the spot, like Scizor (banded) or scarf T-Tar but then I'd have weather problems and need to change more members. I'll check more options when I get the time.

Ok thanks for the suggestions! I gave Life Orb to Breloom. It doesn't live as long now, but it definitely got a nice boost, which was actually netting me some KO's I wouldn't get before. Suprisingly they stay in on Breloom, even if they are fully aware of Mach Punch and Bullet Seed. I have no idea why. Perhaps they believe they can tank the hits. Who knows? Anyway, I had a harder time choosing how to implement the other suggestions. CM Clef works as it is with little problem, but I tried the Flamethrower set as well, and it fits more than the support set, as Lando does not have so many options to choose from. I gave it Toxic, SD and SUperpower, but they all felt redundant. Lando forces more physical switches so it kept the SR. Instead, I turned Clef into a special setup sweeper. I haven't played long enough but it seems ok. Here's my last battle with this team: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/oususpecttest-356424593

If you are using CM, prefer Lefties, as the life orb boost is no longer needed and you'll need turns to set up, so you'll need all the hp you can get. I enjoy using a set with Fire Blast / Psyshock and Grass Knot, but other options can be used as well, depending on the team. Just try to make it have a role, since it will have competition from other Fire types. Trying to provide it with the most diverse coverage may hinder you in the end because you need it to excell at what it does in order to be worth a slot. I've posted a replay (Showdown Replays) with a team making good use of Delphox in high level play. Make sure to check it, to get an idea of its usage.

Yes, I mean that this change nullifies the need to give it Rollout if you didn't originally plan to. Rollout damage can become great very fast, but I won't complain

Welcome to another Rate-My-Team (RMT) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Greetings fellow trainers! This is yet another RMT, with a team that I had to run through a lot of trial-and-error to make as effective as possible. The team was built with the offensive core Breloom/Manectric in mind, and the rest are there to set the scene for those two to unfold their talent and be used at their fullest extend. This team is a collection of the most ruthless criminals the poke-world has ever seen. In general, the group specialises in guerilla warfare, using underhanded hit'n'run tactics, priority spam, traps and wishes. They chip down your health, take out your most important members, and when you are down on the ground, they hit you hard with bullets and tazers. Breloom might even build you a tomb while he's at it... Without further ado, let's introduce the gang. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Breloom @ Expert Belt Ability: Technician EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Mach Punch - Bullet Seed - Rock Tomb - Spore Manectric @ Manectite Ability: Lightning Rod EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Thunderbolt - Volt Switch - Overheat - Hidden Power [ice] Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers Ability: Intimidate EVs: 248 HP / 72 Atk / 188 Def Impish Nature - Stealth Rock - Earthquake - Stone Edge - U-turn Latias @ Leftovers Ability: Levitate EVs: 248 HP / 72 Def / 188 SpD Calm Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Draco Meteor - Psyshock - Defog - Healing Wish Le Bronn James (Bisharp) @ Assault Vest Ability: Defiant EVs: 36 HP / 192 Atk / 144 SpD / 136 Spe Adamant Nature - Iron Head - Sucker Punch - Knock Off - Pursuit Clefable @ Leftovers Ability: Magic Guard EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD Calm Nature - Calm Mind - Moonblast - Soft-Boiled - Thunder Wave So... this is my Evil Team, and now all their secrets are revealed. I want to know your thoughts about this, possible suggestions to improve the team and notes as to what I might need to watch out for on the servers. Remember to tell me what you like or dislike about this team and ... why not even make suggestions for future builds? I would like to thank you for making it this far and I wish you great success in your battles.

This problem can be easily remedied by switching the moves around a bit.
