The ignorance of people on the difference between sex and gender really annoys the living hell out of me. I hate people who says there's only 2 genders.

I can take people taking opposing viewpoints and beliefs in some topics (such as music taste, religious beliefs and some political topics) but denying the existence of a person's identity is not right. There was this dude being really disrespectful towards my friend (who is gender-fluid) when she pointed out about the gender/sex difference in a way just to explain and was said quite well. She even posted some links to some websites to help explain it to him.
I think if people don't believe that there are more than 2 genders then they should keep that viewpoint to themselves when commenting in an LGBT post about different sexualities and gender identities.

By Sartre's definition of the identity, the struggle of the honest person is to reconcile their etre-pour-soi (being for themselves, self-perception) identity to correspond with their etre-pour-autrui (being for others, others' perception of the self) identity. At least both are legitimate, arguably the latter is more so because it can outlive the first by millenia.
Much of our identity, perhaps the majority, exists in the eyes of other people. If society defines you to be something, then you are that something; and if there is a difference between your internal and societal perceptions of identity, then it is your responsibility to reconcile this by either convincing society or changing yourself.
Essentially, because gender and gender roles are social constructs, society determines gender, not the individual. If enough people in a society say there are only two genders, then there are only two genders. It's not an ignorant stance, it's reality. I personally believe there are more, as do you and your friends. But by the existentialist definition, outside of echo chambers, genders beyond 'man' and 'woman' do not exist.

That was an interesting fact there Hugh. I think society is changing to take this into consideration. Whilst many of my friends are very accepting about there being more than 2 genders, my family are not so. The main reason why many people don't accept it in my mind is because the concept gender identity and sexuality has expanded greatly within the past few decades and they haven't had time to make sense of the gender identities of others.
It's sad that many people don't understand that gender identity is a spectrum but I think within the next decade or so then people will become more understanding of that. That is if the increasing concerning amount of voices that are trying to push us back into early 1900's version of patriarchy are ignored. I could have more of a discussion of those voices but I'll only mention it if it was more relevant...
