I tried to play Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.
As someone whose first RPG was Pokemon Red, I can say that Mystic Quest is not a good way to introduce people to turn based RPGs. Pokemon Red may be glitchy and broken by today's standards, but it still does the job of being an introduction to RPGs well. It's simple, and kids will get it, but the depth is there if you really care about it.
I think turn-based RPGs are an acquired taste, and not everyone is going to have as much fun as me in scrolling through a menu and choosing attacks. Mystic Quest is not a good way to gain that acquired taste.
Pokemon Red led the way for bigger things, Like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasies 1-10 (But especially 7, since I played that one as a child on a PS2, and it remains my favorite). I don't think anyone would be interested in turn-based RPGs after playing Mystic Quest. And that's a shame.

I learned 2 things in that last mission:
1: I love the Jester (I named him after Ali btw. Ali just seems like he'd fit the Jester supporting role)
2: I hate the Abomination class. Genuinly terrible. like, I was 3 battles in and already 150 stress for himself and 100 for my healer and Ali.

l mean that has literally nothing to do with Abom then, not sure why you're pinning there. Kinda unfounded lol. l'm just making sure the above wasn't the case cause Abom's legit powerful as fuck. ~~there's a reason they have restrictions etc with what parties they can be in.~~
Most people just assume at first thought that theycan switch constantly between the two forms ad nusem and you really can't unless you're running Cry Havoc on a Houndmaster. ~~only way you've got enough spread out stress heal.~~
Just note that Human form Abom is mostly a statuser, use his Blight and his stun and keep enemies DoT'd and CC'd. Beast Form is more of a damage dealer and should be played accordingly. Abom's strong cause he's a good addition to a line up with both sides of his class, just plan accordingly ~~and don't try and pin all the Satsuing and all the damage strictly on him. Keep one his standard role for the team and switch when it's needed.~~
The only thing from the Abom that causes party stress is his change so whatever happened there has liiiiterally nothing to do with the Lad, you best be givin' him his fair shake now cause Abom's do FUCKlN' WOOOOOOOOOORK man.

I like TVTropes, I do. But, one thing that really grinds my gears is when people direct it at me saying "you can't write a good story if you aren't being 100% original, these days."
... what? Guys, not everything has to be a classic and novelty for novelty sake is in-itself a trope. Also, to say that you have to be completely original would mean that you'd have to basically make the story as uninteresting as possible, by removing themes, characters and narratives.
There is a sense of familiarity with certain stories that people, believe it or not, ACTUALLY enjoy and prefer recognizing. Like themes of love, drama, adventure etc. It's how you write those scenes and how well delivered they are that ultimately sticks with people.

The CYL 2 suspense is killing me.

the concept of Fanfic isn't really that though lol. The concept is supposed to be not those. More or less, the exception to the rule would be that case ((though... maybe l'm giving the internet too much credit.)). lt's a bit different and personally if he goal is to troll or mess with folks it's probably something else but l digress and that's mostly a seminatics dicussion lol.

or you know... they are just doing it for fun and don't want to be a serious writer???... and a lot of other reasons. Not everyone who writes remotely wnats to do it as a job and it's only a hobby or a pastime for some. That's a more than valid thing.
Art doesn't have to be a masterpiece to be worth doing, or worth something. The act of creation on it's own is enough for some and they do it for their own pleasure fun etc... and not really for other people. Fanfic is often an easy outlet for it just cause most people aren't exactly the best at conjuring up settings, worldbuilding etc... so it's easy to use stuff they know to get to the fun stuff that they enjoy about writing all the faster.
Like it's pretty sad that the concept of someone doing something to just enjoy their downtime etc or express an idea that they've been thinking about for fun, just to perhaps practice their sills in a less serious eniviroment ((or many many other things)) reportedly makes you wanna puke. You can not like it, that's fair. lt's more than fair. l don't care for it myself.
But, it's a bit extreme a reaction for something that's literally often just a past time for peopleor apractice tool. There's no reason it shouldn't exist, there's nothing wrong with writing that isn't an instant classicor masterpiece or that not even made to be good in the first place.

so, here's a question I might regret: Can something factually be overrated? and if so, what determines if it is over rated?

lt's fair but popluarity doesn't neccesarily equate with how good something is in function or objectively. But it doesn't really need to. People have their reasons for enjoying something and one can enjoy something that's objectively terrible. lt's really just understanding what's wrong with something how it could be improved etc... that matters.
All popularity reallys does is mean there's more folks that see what you see etc... though not always 100% in the same way or light. After all, people are drawn to things for different reasons that hook them and they enjoy them the way they wil etc...
Personally don't think you should regret asking such a question. Can be good to talk about these types of thing with other people pick their brains, see prespective that one them selfmight not. Besides, conversation like such can be quite good fun too.~

Well, not really? Cause ratings are in part always based on personal experience or bias. lt's a matter of perspective most times and not really one that enters factual realm.
The later is probably why. lt's pretty impossible to determine how something is overrated, because what overall criteriacould you even use? People don't even rate things the same way, a lot don't even use the same criteria.
Mainly, the problem is there's really no way to determine that case factually cause there's much too much happenstance and whenever one tries to take something that is a at best a repersentation of something as a whole and try to take from there. lt's jus a subjective subject matter, on top of the fact that to say something is overrated one has to disargee with the popular opinion and somehow be able to say the popular opinion at large is incorrect.
lt's like three levels of removed from fact already XD
