I doubt Ame would take away from the fantastic story to make a battle frontier. Maybe once our storyline is finished but I doubt we'll see one before then.

I've been a showdown person for quite a while. The main server is definitely more for battling while some of the community made servers are far more for the community. Sure, I've had my fair share of tyrannic assholes running servers that couldn't give 2 less shits about their community, but aside from that, if you look for a community, go to smaller servers.

The shards in the places mentioned by McMc can get you quite a few pokemon (by buying all of these said pokemon you also receive an exp share), Blast Powder (Allows you to use a mined rock once more), various rare items, payment for move tutors, payment to participate in puzzles that can give you an HM, fossils, and pokemon like Timburr, and also other various functions that I'm sure will be implemented sometime in the future.
