  1. Okay, this thread has gone in all kinds of unnecessary directions so we are actually going to go ahead and put this on lock. That's not to say anything of the league itself; I've spoken with the OP and we're just retiring this particular topic. Expect a cleaner announcement when the project is closer to fruition.
  2. finished opal and started on peridot. no screens yet because frequent interruptions meant i didnt have as much time as i would have liked. i do have plans for both of the factories, but that can come later. tomorrow will be a lot of spritework since i'll have to work out new colour schemes for all of the buildings. tsk, black was so easy...
  3. I like that. That's what I meant by events. NPCs and trainers have to be event tiles. Too many of them causes lag. There's already a bunch in use from teleports in every direction and lighting effects, so my options are limited. That's off the table as a default strategy. This is what Fly distribution currently looks like. Note this does not include anything in the city/apophyll because all of that is being remapped and I can't set up the fly points until the mapping is done. But, that's also why I had to make Fly unavailable for so long. The old and new cities use completely different maps, but the way Fly works it activates a point once you've been to that location. If it activated for the old city and was available back then, then even once the city was restored, using Fly would have taken you to the old city.... AKA back in time. Therefore I made Fly unavailable until the city was rebuilt so that it would only take the player to the new city when used. It wasn't just for the sake of inconvenience. I'm only doing the mapping right now. Eventing will come later.
  4. With that said... in various forms... this wouldn't be the first time we've had two concurrent fanleagues in the community, but running them at the same time definitely not does not tend to work out, so before this gets off the ground please go ahead and pick a schedule that doesn't overlap with Redemption's running times.
  5. did most of opal ward today However, I am running into the expected problem: with all the rocks and cracks cleaned up the city streets look really bare. Sidewalks and sewer stuff were an attempt to alleviate this for when the rebuild came, but it's not enough. For less laggy areas I might just fill up the streets with people and such-- how it should be-- but I've already trimmed a lot of event tiles from the Opal Ward in particular in an attempt to reduce lag. I can't do too much of that here without going over the soft event limit. Might end up adding some smaller park-sections to break up the city expanse... but I'm open to other non-event ideas too.
  6. fixed up fly today, structured out the new maps for the city, and copied over metadata + encounters stuff + tileset data for literally everything that needs to be redone so tomorrow i get to actually start mapping the new areas yayyyy My intention is, once I get into the swing of this rebuilding-mapping stuff, to stream some of it. That's not a promise... just the intention. That'll probably be next week if at all though.
  7. shotgun wedding, right? i'll bring thirty. "'Til death do us part" will have never been so quick ^~^ thanks for the compliments everyone tho!
  8. "ill do this later tonight" the next day is sort of like the same night, right?
  9. Ahoy mates, wenches, and ye whatnot in-between! We've got one o' those double-sided news posts comin' into port now, and given t' subject matter along with the fact that it's been some degree o' time since I last did one o' me silly dialect news posts, you get this in full TechnipirateSpeak. First up in the galley tonight we've got t' risin' incidents o' piracy resurgin' around this here community. And while as a cap'n speakin' like this and all it'd do me no greater pleaaye than t' tip me cap t' ye and say let ye have yer merry treassurin', a line's got t' be drawn in the proverbial sand here. So here we are: Henceforth, publicly askin' for or distributin' illegal files such as ROMs or cracked RPG Maker will be a warnable offense in the forum. Now thar's a couple o' caveats t' this, so listen up, ye bilge rats. First up, linkin' the patches for ROMs be still ago, so if you want t' provide a link t' a fangame that uses a ROM, just link t' patch. Players can find the ROM elsewhere. Secondly, you'll note the key phrase o' 'publicly' thar. We won't be monitorin' what goes on behind closed PMs, so keep your shady business out o' the daylight and you'll be just grand. With that ship sailed, let's move onto somethin' a bit more exhiliratin'. the staff crew recently got t' plannin', and after a hostile ta-- er, after some aggressive negotiatin', the old' hidden Nightclub room's been commandeered with new purpose. T' Nightclub channel on the server be now a voice-only channel for those most esteemed Ace members. Remember, like with the forum Nightclub itself, most rules will be more lax thar (for when you need t' talk about that booty, you know-- pirate booty, I mean), except for respect which be still prime. So keep your trousers tight or you'll be walkin' the plank on out outta the club. That's about it for this week, so feel free t' check out the new room-- those o' ye o' high enough calibur for it anyhow-- stay clean, and keep sailin' steady.
  10. Meant to post this last night. Silver Wind comes from Smeargle! I'll put up the next song later tonight too.
  11. ...then you must enter the Dragon's Den. The theme of the lava-ridden draconic chambers has been something seen in canon Pokemon games several times already, but never has it had any pull on the flow of battle before. Highlighting and firelighting the danger of fighting a beast on its home turf and in the heat of battle, the Dragon's Den Field Effect skyrockets the offensive capabilities of its premier type, while covering their historic weakness in its ambient presence. In the end, it's a simple question: can you take the heat? By the way, most people can probably assume where this Field is likely to show up, but interestingly enough, it'll actually be used in two upcoming gyms. Now, why would that be? With prior updates just about done, it's finally time for me to get on with the new content development. Here's hoping I get to the next field soon. Until then, stay cool-- you'll need to.
  12. Nah, I leave all the hard stuff for you. Mine are quick and easy. Well, usually. I feel like I might've already said this somewhere, but I had originally planned a 'jailbreak' gang quest where you and your gang get arrested by the police and you had to bust 'em outta there. I forget why but I eventually decided against that. In any case, this is a cool idea but not something I'm planning on. animations????? Pay Day comes from mde. It's especially crisp with the sound-effect, and I really appreciate it overall. "Coins scattered everywhere!" like no kidding
  13. This is Ame's co-worker typing. I got into the office today and found her writhing on the ground. She keeps twitching and saying "Gen 7" all over. Do you know what this means?? Is this a new street drug? Should I call the police????? To elaborate more seriously on the gen 7 stuff, I will probably leave the bulk of the data work to the users like I did with Gen 6. Then we have some advantages now that we didn't during the Gen 5>6 transition such as that we are much more up-to-date on the whole (remember until E15 there was still a lot of 4th gen content that hadn't been implemented), and the fact that we have a scripting team. Little Lewis doesn't really maintain a presence in the community but he is still with us on implementation (he's polishing up online features right now!!) and could probably take care of any scripting stuff that I can't (and I'm much more comfortable with that than I was when Gen 6 hit too). As for sprites, I'd probably just bite the bullet and kick donation incentives so we could use Smogon's this time because while I (hope I've proven by now that I certainly) can make our own, it's frankly not worth the time especially when they already undertake the project quite well. Big things would be availability + changes in field effects. We'd have to see another x.5 episode and pad out development time and just ugggh. --- At the time of its release, I probably enjoyed Crystal the most. It felt mystical to me, in a few different ways (I had fun figuring out the Unown; rumors about getting to the Orange Islands, etc) To really give you the best answer to a question like this, I figured I should ask the big guy himself. Here's what he said: "..." Well, I think that about says it all! I feel elucidated. Moving on! If so, not deliberately. Although I'll tell you what, we do live across from some kind of crone... She literally called the city on us and had us fined for like a thousand dollars because our grass was too high............. she snuck into her neighbors house and hid chocolate in places so that they would get an ant problem. like?????? Foamy is correct about Cain, he's pan. Tania is probably ace. Heh. There's a few reasons, but the main one I'm not going to say until the game is finished and I do my LP of it, and the other will have to wait until y'all see her gym. But another one I can talk about, is back from the league days. Organizing 17 people to all be on 20 hours a week (when you're not paying them) is hard. Like really hard. My solution to this was the line-host system. Leader access was gated by a line host who kept records, refereed, directed traffic, and so on. Another lesser-known duty of line hosts was to operate as backups if a leader was missing. That included battling and acting as them. But that was how I made sure that even if the actor in question couldn't make it, that the challengers could still get their battles. So, there were a handful of times I had to act for all of them over the months. Titania in particular stood out back then, because she was always by far and away the hardest for me to write for. I think it's because my personality back then was the polar opposite of hers. I usually avoided confrontation like the plague, for instance, whereas she was brutally honest at all times. It took me a little while to get into that mindset, and even then it was still challenging, but once I did I started sort of looking up to her. By now I've learned a lot from her, but, there's always more.
  14. bedtime picture because i was tired af... but also liked how my hair looked. looks. whatever. #sleepyselfie
  15. finished the rest of my bugs today... there's still some minor and scripting ones but i dont particularly have to care about those for a while, so we're going to pretend like they dont exist animations this weekend, and then monday i take a jack hammer to fly and get it to behave because from what i understand rn it's all kinds of messy. and apparently already works for some people in game??? that's not supposed to happen but whatevskis. but yeah yeah new field effect yeah yeah music... i made the unsaid executive decision to switch music to biweekly and draw out the time i can post stuff a bit longer. but that still means one goes up this weekend.
  16. And you guys say I'm the evil one. Finished the rest of the event updates today... nothing really notable except the addition of the rest of the Incense items. Also dealt with 42 confirmed bugs. That might sound like a lot, but the list usually sits around ~250 so, it's actually not. The good news is-- could it be?? finally???? i get to actually start making the new episode content now* god bless *well, after the rest of the bugs, but still. ain't concerned 'bout those.
  17. Shoot, they're onto my games. I mean, I do have a still-unused variation of that puzzle that I've been saving... Today I did a few different things, like change the Iolia Crystal Plugs names to be Crystal Keys instead (because apparently the word 'plug' implies different things to the rest of the world than it does to me), and added special original trainer names to event Pokemon where appropriate (corey's, 7th street, snubbull trainer, etc). Also, this was this evening's project:
  18. I'll start posting animations on weekends, since that's usually all I work on at that time. Beat you to it. Today I finished the TV weather reports, changed the weather system to never select the same pattern twice in a row, added in the Amplifield Rocks to mining and content, made PULSE Pokemon start the battle as shinies (most of their shinies match the PULSE forms) where appropriate, and solved for another AI bug I found. To elaborate on the bug, it's from base Essentials, so it'll exist in past releases and other Essentials fangames too. Part of the AI for doubles wants to take its partner into consideration. Only, it doesn't do this very well, because it looks for the wrong class of moves (it looks for moves that target the user's side, as opposed to moves that target everyone). On top of that, the syntax in that section is incorrect so the moves that it finds will never be chosen. Meaning there's a selection of moves that are basically never going to be used in doubles, and it's not considering the partner as it should be when using moves like Earthquake. So that explains a thing or two. Anyway, that should be better now.
  19. Probably the Chess puzzle for those unfamiliar with it, or Shelly's pre-the current change. Assuming people don't look stuff up anyway. I don't think most of the puzzles in the game are hard, but I'm also a little biased, since I sorta know all the solutions. I don't really plan the puzzles in advance; I let that happen as I make each area. So who knows! But ideally puzzles would scale in difficulty as the game goes on. I can only do so much though... so we'll see. I do plan on having a field day with the Victory Road puzzle though. @ Ody: Even distribution of types at all stages is not a goal of the project. I would rather promote the game as 'dynamic', but you might argue that the two aren't all that different. In any case, I don't view things changing as a bad thing in itself. If people want to call it inconsistent, I don't really care because, It's true, they are! I also don't think this is a bad thing. I will disparage the role of luck in a battle system time and time again but currently I feel that it has a pretty nice role in affecting availability per playthrough. You'll notice as of E15, espeically in the early game, there's a lot of luck-based events now. You get a random egg pokemon. You get a random pokemon between pachirisu/zigzagoon, or drowzee/ducklett, so on. I've seen that this sort of variance is a good thing because it creates different experiences (especially for second-time players) between different playthroughs. Do they really? Because how I see it, current players get a lot nicer stuff than old ones do. I mean, do any older players get the new content per episode? Do old players have Lapras, Sneasel, or a chance at Volcarona, Haxorus and so on? They might-- if they're also still current players. But I think that everything new in a given episode makes up for the few sacrifices along the way. Frankly, that mentality is just impatience. "I want this thing that was removed NOW, daddy!" Settle down, Veruca. It'll come back. And the game will be better for the change in the end. That's strange, because I think Misdreavus is actually more fitting. While Gastly -is- shown to use illusions and whatnot in the anime, Misdreavus is actually known for it (well, moreso Mismagius, but close enough.) The Pokedex says that Misdreavus likes to startle people, and feeds on fear. Gastly just puts people to sleep or gasses around. Misdreavus wins. I'm also pretty sure that no other type not named Dragon has 40% of its Pokemon in OU or Ubers (counting Swagplay for Klefki anyway). I really don't care about Magnet Pull. I care that Magnezone's typing + popularity + Mirror Coat + coverage + sturdy makes it too good of an option compared to other things at the same point-- you've got the 'peerless' part right. Fortunately, there -is- something I can do about it, and I did. I already axed Gardevoir once. Not sure what you expected with that comment. Probopass is an unfortunate casualty, but next to no one cares about it anyway, so that's fine. I plan to add an event to give it relevance despite being forced back. I really don't understand this logic. Shofu's entire team except Cofagrigus has already been axed. Including Magnezone. That aside, you want me to not make choices for the game's balance because a youtuber uses certain Pokemon? I was willing to put some of shofu's d a n k m e m e s into the game but that's too far. See the part in this topic where I said I already did. Thus, we put Metagross into a part of the game where it has some peers. Problem solved. ^~^ To an extent, yes. However, the E19 finished product is a much higher priority, so I make changes for the sake of that. Nonetheless, I think this point counters your purpose, because I wouldn't be making this change right now if I weren't concerned about the performance of these Pokemon in the interim of development. Otherwise I'd just wait to axe them on the final release. With all due respect, stop telling me how to make my game. I accept feedback, not instruction. Also like??? Magnezone and Metagross are still in the game. Per the definition of 'axe' from before, it includes not only being removed, but just being pushed back later in the game. pls calm

      Garnet.

  21. The chess pieces are all made from their overworld sprites, which for Nidoking/queen come from the canon games... so no offense taken. If they don't look like themselves, that's on Gamefreak. Admittedly a lot of their difference is probably in their coloration, so it's difficult inherently. If I were going to change another puzzle, and I might, it would be the Cage puzzle in Blacksteam. Similar to Shelly's, it's a notable difficulty spike. But, I'm not currently planning to do that. The reason that I am not changing the Chess puzzle (outside of solving for the inconsistency in Gardevoir's) is because it's very difficult to do anything to that concept without remaking the whole thing entirely, and because it's later in the game so it's more appropriate to have harder puzzles. It's still a spike, but a hard puzzle is more out of place early in the game. I will admit my mistake with that puzzle in the first place though. Honestly, it was a bit of overconfidence on my part, assuming most people were familiar with chess. I think I first started playing chess when I was like four, so as something I grew up with, I had this notion that it was commonplace-- something almost everyone knew. I included the instruction room for what I thought would be a handful of people who didn't, but that obviously turned out to be a much larger population than I'd expected. If I had realized that from the start, I probably would not have made the puzzle like it is.
  22. Basically what commander said. After badge number #17, it's basically a straight shot to the next gym, and the elite 4 thereafter. There isn't enough content to make up a full episode length (which is also why there'll be a 2-for-1 in an earlier epiosde.) In the past I've written in stuff to make up the time but anything I could do for that at this point would just be contrived (and we'll be close to level cap anyway) If the Yureyu HQ crashes one more time, I'm going to delete this entire website. This has already been done, so... idk. Lord, I hope. Probably not. Kuro says not. All non-legendaries will be pre-E4. Not that I'll have any part in. I'm getting demoned away ASAP. All legendaries will be post-game. I don't wanna talk about it Q~Q I think I've already covered the first three, but I'm a big fan of Ametrine City's music. Gardevoir. Titania. Shade's battle music was just reversed The overworld gym music was reversed + a metallic effect I use Goldwave for quick sound edits like that. It's not really possible to do instrument changes with just an mp3; I'd need raw project data in some form which obviously Glitch doesn't publish.
