Renegade without being mean

Recommended Posts

Yes, for the most part, but you have to kill Karen, Karrina (both requiring full completion of the Hidden Library quests), both savable rifts, leave amber behind (instead of rescuing them), and get Florin killed by making him use his power repeatedly in Darklight, I may have forgotten other necessary ones, but if I remember right, killing Florin and karina gives 40, karen and the rifts 30, leaving amber behind 10, and delibrately failing the decision in the alternate future, then retrying from the game over screen and succeeding will give the last 10 points. (I probably am forgetting something or having the point totals wrong, here, I think it should actually total 100 RP)

There is a guide somewhere, just in case you need it, and you may wanna double check it to confirm my information. You only need 100 renegade points to go renegade, and I did what you are seeking, so yes, for the most part.

Hope this helps!

Is there any advantage in sparing Karrina in a Renegade run, assuming one has enough points regardless?

If you don't kill her at the end of the Hidden Library quest, you'll have a different issue with her in Renegade. I let you discover that ;)

I was about to make a post about this, but since this is here, i think i will say it here.
Usually you achieve the renegade route by being an asshole to your "friends", which to some people seems a bit forced or even wrong within a human standpoint.

But id like to propose a reason or interpretaion of the story to why this would make sense storywise.

Of course you can be nice and do the stuff to get all the 100 Bad Karma Points but then you enter the renegade and theres a big shift in character, so it makes more sense to be somewhat a "bad person" through your playthrough.

This is how i did my renegade route:
At the beggining your mother disappeared (since we dont really know what happened), so you are in a new place, basically alone and with a somewhat traumatic event. So here i usually choose neutral / slighly good options, since you are not really a bad person, but you are not overly friendly either.
This continues through all the chapters. Even the Marianette stuff which in my opinion is the worst to make "bad choices" (it feels really bad). Because yes, you are trapped in another dimension or whatever, but its not really her fault, and she even helps you so i see no reason to be mean to her. so again, neutral / slightly good options.
Now the pivotal moment is the blacksteeple castle stuff.
So picture this:

Spoiler

Your mom gets murdered in front of you. You never recover from that and start to be mean after this.
And this makes sense, specially if you managed to defeat madame X in battle.
Because you hold your own against their leader while your friends, that include high ranking gym leaders, do nothing and they kinda let your mother die.
So you start to see them as useless, even blame them. Basically you are the strong, and you cannot count on your "friends" to help you.

This is my interpretation of how i would do a renegade route while kinda making sense storywise.

So the first choice after this is when you tell Nim and everyone that you dont care about her, or something. That choice makes you lose a lot of points with everyone, and i think itss the perfect start of Renegade.
This also explains a lot of other choices in the future:

The new people you meet have nothing to do with the death of your mother, but you are kinda distant now, and dont really trust people that much. So you remain neutral in most of your relationships.

Neutral with Florin and Talon. When you kill team Xen members with Florin, you dont really care about him, you only care about killing the people who killed your mother.
Flora is openly hostile towards you. So you are hostile towards her aswell, so exposing her does not feel bad.

The stuff with crescent. If she is that strong, why didn´t she show up and saved your mother? So you hate her for that.

The Tesla choice. She tells you she would be your new mother? How dare she?

Killing Karrina and Karen? Who cares? they are just using you to their own benefits.

Killing the rifts? You are just focused on your path that you dont explore unecessary stuff, so you never get the book to learn how to save them. (i dont know, this one could be anything i guess).

Not saving Amber. She is also kinda hostile towards you in the beggining so you just dont care.

And theres probably other stuff that would make sense with this mentality.

This is just an interpretaion of the events to make it seem more organic to enter renegade, and not forced by being a "piece of shit".

Also, a suggestion for the devs. (i dont know of they will ever see this)

At the Nim choice, when you choose between:
- You´re our friend (good)

- About that house.... (neutral)

- She's right, we don´t. (bad)

I feel like the good and bad are perfect, specially the bad for the things i said in this post.

But the neutral is lacking? i mean i think a better neutral option would just be "...". Yeah, you dont say anything, because we are still recovering from the mother´s death. We are not really uncaring about Nim, it just our head is not really into helping yet. So not saying anything could be an interesting choice. You can even make the other characters do a remark about how we are not good yet or something.

Sorry if you guys had to read everything ahah. This is just my interpretation.
