Ana-MPS Posted February 24, 2015 Share Posted February 24, 2015 Hello, french player here, I discovered this game a few days ago, at first I was curious I was wondering if there was a fangame somewhere with a cool story with things that could be considered "canon" if you have to think about it. (unlike those games with fanmade Pokemon), I enjoyed the fact you managed to put some "exclusive" content in this game such as Tangrowth's boosted form, reminded me a lot of Pokemon Colosseum&XD! And oh boy, did I struggle with this part as my starter was Squirtle. (Well I first thought it was a new mega-evolution since I didn't play the last games... Shame on me, I know.) But also a game that would brings every real Pokemon game mechanics such as EV/IV's and gives you a wide choice of Pokemon to chose between. You did all of this so thank you for making me enjoy my vacations even more. Well of course there are things I had troubles with, the fact that many characters seems to be inspired by the anime culture, i mean some aspects and characters from this game are highly comparable to anime characters (I'd hate Shelly if she wasn't a 12yo little girl in charge of an arena just for she looks like a fucking Hinata, Kyoko, Yumina, Shinobu and so on...) But honestly it doesn't even matter for most events from the game are well brought to the player. It has mature content (themes and subjects related to reality) mixing up constantly with this "anime" aspect. I was just worried the game would take this path forever, like that openly gay rival at the very beginning made me go crazy, -> "does he have to be "gay" that much?" Not that I have a problem with gay people (i know nobody didn't say so but i'd like to avoid such returns) but more with this "personality type" you can also find in anime, always flirting and creating weird situations. I just don't know how it's called. Anyway, one thing I wanted to say, no, to shout actually; I love Fern. I mean I really do, I tried to find a Fern fanclub on this forum but my research wasn't successful. It surprised me, I know he's not supposed to be "that guy you love" but does he have an attitude. He's the fucking Swag Jockey. Well just like everyone I go totally violent in front of my computer everytime I have to face this guy, but it's like everytime I think about this character I think about how much work was needed to design him. Since this is your first post, welcome Good to see someone out there found good within the grasshole known as Fern. I've met pretty few people who actually like the character (it is annoying as fuck for everyone and has surpassed any level of humanly-possible assholetry, but gotta admit the game wouldn't be the same without him.... fucking him...) Firstly, welcome. Secondly, to comment on "does he have to be so gay".... I mean, someone already said he's not gay. He'll hit on the player even if they're a girl or non-binary. Moreover, being flirtatious and a little pervy isn't the same as being gay... I'll respect if he's not a character you enjoy, but don't tie that to his sexual orientation. He actually is one of the most popular characters regardless. Additionally, this game is based on the characters/leaders from our online league. Cain was a gym leader when we ran the Reborn League in this community and-- well, let's just say I had a hell of a (somewhat unsuccessful) time trying to stop him from cybering with challengers in PM mid leader battle. I kind of like him more than Gary because he's like parody levels of jerk-rival but his roserade can go die, that thing singlehandedly swept me more than once. But Cain is amazing, I love him. Only guy to get me laughing at a "she said" joke. He's fruitier than a cherrubi and you know what, it rocks. Cool team too, best poison specialist ever. I believed he was (it's up to you guys to decide if the thought was legitimate or not...) like I said it's more about personality, actually act like some Uke which is strongly tied to my guess about how characters are portrayed according to anime codes. Anyway, anyway , anyway , a n y - w a y I had some more time to play and eventually managed to beat his sister, I have to admit it, his role in the events of the child's abduction, sure make him more cool to me. Still hate the fact he wants to interfer so much in people's life, but yeah. What can I say about that red haired guy that decided to become Aya's white knight. While I'm writing these lines I can't stop thinking about how your look on the characters and what they make you think about is connected to your personnality and perception on life in general. So before you all start thinking that oddities are high for me to be somewhat connected to Fern in my everyday life, I have to mention that I just like people to understand things themselves, rationnal stuff blablabla. At least "when people cannot get things by themselves it's your role to show them the way", more or less what the guy from Team Meteor tried to explain to that pink haired little girl when he said "because you don't understand something doesn't [...]". This ditch between me and most characters involved in the story may surely come from this, as I mostly saw characters going for "emotional" stuff. Not going to complain, I mean: a 10 years old girl, her friend who seems to be... (Well it's fun to wonder what Fern would say about Shelly) and Aya. Oh Aya... I didn't believe it when she started complaining about how much she's a bad person right before the battle start. I was glad to see the White Knight would ignore the huge load of incoming BS and allow me to start that damn match. I never enjoyed being silent that much in another game (which is good actually for it makes me guess about what I'd say myself). Yeah some people really suffered because of Cain not being able to just give you the goddamn key to Byxbysion Wasteland. Come on are we saving those kids or not ? Less you could do would help me get the badge I couldn't obtain for a very emotional one decided to jump from the top of the bridge. Yeaaah... In the end, I think all of this is brilliant, I really do enjoy it, I like suffering with pleasure when reading that "10yo girl that would totally be that girl to tell you to never bring drama if you wanna be friend with her and being the one to create them for non-relevant shit". I just think that's why I love Fern, with a few other reasons. He's the one character that will bring me back into somekind of... Relief... Plénitude oh... He's real. It's hard to explain. One thing is for sure, I didn't need this character to actually act gentle over the player's character to like him, which make me truely realize how unique he can be. Even if we're talking about an unique specie of jerk. But enough talk about Cain, Fern and their emo pals. I realized yesterday that there would be no Munchlax in my game since it got waxed out of it for some reasons. I'm wondering why, but I respect the decision. Then realized that Gastly will never, ever, learn Sludge Wave. I'm now thinking of jumping from the bridge myself. But anyway since Gengar is a boss I'd like to use him for breeding, I just have no idea how to do it, and how to make sure it gets some interesting moves. As for breeding. now in order to fully enjoy the game I guess it would be fine if I didn't have to discover it almost entirely through its forum, but hey what can I say, apparently some people decreed that that this is not right to ask some questions.
