  1. Manectric will become more viable if its mega stone is available
  2. I'm not entirely sure how the VC works, specifically whether if offers original or new content. I've only ever heard the term in reference to Nintendo-sanctioned emulation of older games whose hardware is no longer sold or even no longer functions correctly. As a result I am operating on the assumption that it does not offer new games and only exists as a place for Nintendo to rerelease their "classics"I'm not going to torrent a game that's even 5 years old because of moral issues and the risks involved regarding viruses, and that's an informed choice I think the majority of people are going to make. For these games many people will buy physical copies, associated consoles, or otherwise purchase on Steam. But the line gets a little blurry when it comes to games that: - Are approaching a decade in age or older - Ran on comparatively primitive computational software that can be easily downloaded (safer than torrenting) and emulated at levels equal to or greater than those offered by a Nintendo-sanctioned VC download - Are no longer being sold as a disc/cartridge or otherwise as originally distributed - Ran on hardware that is no longer being sold - Have already sold many millions of copies and are now considered "dormant" with respect to past sales - Are widely available on the Internet on reasonably trustworthy sites - ESPECIALLY no longer belong to their original IP owners Examples of games that fit all these categories include Elder Scrolls II and I believe Crash Bandicoot 2 Who is the main audience for these redistributed virtual games? Presumably, nostalgic older gamers in their 20's who can just as easily navigate to a Target page and buy the Switch as they can to an emulation distribution site and download a ROM. The sense of moral obligation initially driving many of them to purchase new things kind of becomes diluted as you run down the bullet list... Nintendo might sell less than 500,000 copies (at a greatly decreased price) of redistributed software on their VC store, outside of viral phemomenon like the weird Red/Blue craze earlier this year, and that's well-known IPs that people are nostalgic about. How many downloads are Ice Climbers going to get? 50,000? I also don't know business, and my uncle doesn't work at Nintendo, so I can't be sure what the cost/benefit ratio is of hosting a sales platform dedicated solely to the redistribution of obsolete games that can be easily obtained through a Google search. Maybe it's EZ$, or maybe it's an inconvenience. Thoughts?
  3. Kirby Air Ride is a necessity as a multiplayer option And my b about colosseum I guess I'm just used to pokemon games coming out across successive console generations It'd be Super Colosseum or Colosseum 64 the way I'm remembering it huh
  4. Meh I'd probably just emulate if they rerelease GCN games on VC If I ever get another console it'll be for exclusives I want to play rq, not games I can run reliably on existant hardware Do we even know if Switch will have a VC? Assuming that its only function is to rerelease old games whose associated hardware has become unreliable (like Red and Blue on the 3DS earlier this year) I feel like the market for that kind of platform is dissolving as the (admittedly illegal) practice of emulation becomes more reliable and less stigmatized, and the functional longevity of hardware that games have been released on 10 years ago (which I think currently covers the DS?) grows with each generation Hopefully that was intelligible but tl;dr what do you think of the future of VC and will the Switch feature it?
  5. Yeah I know GS made XD, that's why I said spiritual successor and how dare you call them random-ass those games were great The XY/ORAS 3D style resembled XD in some ways and I have to imagine they took some inspiration from the GCN title I just don't really see them as spiritual successors because of their different character design, setting, and game mechanics Not to get too far off on a tangent but here are some arguments I can think of for which Nintendo might revisit the series: - The transition to a (semi-?) console might inspire them to draw on familiar console staples (Colosseum for N64, XD for GCN) - They just redid Hoenn to hit the nostalgia demographic, which came out around the same time as XD (2002 and 2005, respectively) - Though it's an original IP, Nintendo recently revived Kid Icarus of all things and that went over well a boy can dream
  6. If you're willing to invite friends over to play along with, Mario Party 5 is remembered as one of the best Mario Party games Also, Pokemon Colosseum is for the N64 - only XD: Gale of Darkness is on the GCN (and it's a top-notch game) I would also recommend Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, which is a remake of SA2 for the Dreamcast. It's a pretty good game in and of itself, you don't need to have much experience with Sonic besides the fact that he goes fast and has to get those chaos emeralds
  7. Oo, will there be a spiritual successor to Colosseum/XD?
  8. This was a really good movie, with a really good soundtrack
  9. 2:54 is so good the British adapted it into a hymn
  10. Hard answer losing limbs soft answer another divergent movie Top 5 movies?
  11. Sorry for the delay guys, but Part 6 might not come out for a few days I'm swamped this weekend and Kiki whooped me so many times that this post will take a while to churn out In the meantime enjoy this picture of Kougami chowing down on Hypa Oatsu
  12. If it's got Fire Emblem exclusive I'll buy it If it doesn't I won't
  13. The low-key 'check your privelege' Seeing as "packing the Supreme Court" is the closest thing this thread has come to an objective political discussion since the first page or so covering the role of censorship in media, I might as well chime in Both Clinton and Trump are pursuing agendas largely separate from their campaign platforms. Thus far, Sanders and Stein are the only two (ex-)candidates that have convinced me that they genuinely believe in the progressive arguments they've made. Clinton is almost certainly going to reverse her positions from the TPP down on to Bernie's feeble requests of a bumped minimum wage. People within the Democratic Party have already suggested this and Bill Clinton lately promoted it just like he stumped for Hillary at local booths back in the nomination process. If she gets in she'll probably push first for a Democratic majority in Congress by dumping money in from the Clinton Foundation (if she doesn't have control already after HOR voting on the 8th) and from there attempt to pack the Court without veto (as Obama is struggling to do currently). Trump just says whatever gets him publicity as he explicitly wrote in The Art of the Deal. If he's making some Republican bedfellows as suggested by his cooperation with Pence (who is about as cookie-cutter Republican as it gets and opposes Trump on like 60% of issues) then he'll probably reverse his progressive attitudes on subjects like LGBTQ rights or even abortion (although he seems more personally uneasy about that topic). They're both in it for the power. At this point American politics have devolved into an organism largely separate from the people's intent, running on hidden donations and appeasing the public they're manipulating with the occasional attempt at reform. We can argue about the merits of social justice or... friendship... all day but when the candidate of either dominant party isn't going to hold themselves to the interests of their voting base then there's even less value in attempting to convince other individuals than usual
  14. Oh yeah doesn't the Cyber Dragon archetype hinge on a series of traps I remember one of them was an infinite trap with counters (basically a spell card anyway)
  15. Mirror force is a beast and again I get the feeling that the reason why ~60% of trap/spell cards are obsolete is because they apply only to one monster
  16. Again those were Kotaku's words, not his own. He related to potential applicants as "creators" and immediately before generalized the people he was addressing as anyone interested in "art projects"It's intuitive to infer that fan game creators were the most likey target of Masuda's proposal to join a game design company, so that's why Kotaku did. But as far as I can see he was just talking about creative people in general, as the other philanthropic founders and leaders of children's entertainment companies often do Anyway point is that I don't buy half the content Kotaku, IGN, or their ilk throw up on their sites and we should be wary of their inferences
  17. This thread is looking pretty sus It's mildly entertaining to read but healthier to skim Just stepping in to point out the following: The original idea of this thread was to open a discussion on censorship and its role in American media; where we can draw the line between parody and libel/slander, with the example of Trump's depiction on SNL Now it's just Absol vs. like 2-5 people on the validity or morality of his political views
  18. Volcanics are a cool archetype, my friend used to use them Honestly a lot of my interest in the game comes from aesthetically pleasing cards; I'll usually find a card first and then build a deck around it. Cyber angels kind of fall flat in my eyes - the GX-era cards always looked strange to me, but I'm not sure what it is about them... maybe konami employed the same artist across those years? They fell in a sort of uncanny valley between original cards (which were more blurry and ominous) and 5Ds cards (which were very crisp and detailed) I also can't tell if you're gunning for the gemini and zodiac decks because of homestuck And thanks for explaining BlueMoon
