[IC] TotMV:G2: The Battered Hero

Edmond though still puzzled, was not surprised by yet another apology from Sachi. He nodded once, and then looked over towards the sound of the approaching vehicle. A motorcycle of sorts...antique, maybe mid-twenty-first century? Odd that someone could have brought it here with them... "No, I'm afraid I don't know any Cinna..." He was about to continue, when he heard the low voice of Mar. As he spoke, Edmond felt a growth of spirit, and a renewed sense of purpose. It certainly was an inspiring speech. Edmond swiveled his head, and saw that some of the others were equally heartened. He joined in the brief cheer, but all too soon the noise had faded. The quiet conversation did little to fill the void left by Mar's speech. Edmond took another glance around the group. The one calling themself "Hellfire Knight" had removed something, probably some form of voice modulation, for now she spoke with the voice of a young girl. Huh. I suppose she didn't expect to be taken seriously...hopefully that won't be a problem Edmond made his way over through the group, and for the first time noticed Alexandria's present condition. A small piece of metal was embedded in one of her eyes, swiveling along with her eyes as she moved them. "I think you have a piece of shrapnel in your eye? I'm not sure, but I might be able to help with that..." -

Edmond stared a moment as the words slowly sank in. She was apologizing for taking a drink. "You...wait, what? The water? That's what you're apologizing for?" Who does that? Who apologizes for drinking water!? Why would someone even think they had to? "No...You don't need to worry about that. You needed it, and I offered it freely. There's no need for an apology..." He lapsed into a puzzled silence. -

"You're welcome...and what are you apologizing for? I don't know what you saw, but I'm certain it was horrific..." He shuddered, and forced down the flood of images that had risen at that slight thought. He tossed the canteen back into his bag, and slung it back over his shoulder. I don't know if she has any experience with this type of thing...I don't know if she's often been in situations facing death. I could barely handle it... -

Edmond listened carefully, but could think of nothing to ask. Most questions that appeared in his mind would hopefully be answered in time. So...I was called here... He was still not comfortable, not certain why he in particular had been chosen. He glanced around uncomfortably as the man departed. Almost everyone appeared to be shaken, and...Did someone just turn into a puddle?! Edmond turned away, utterly bewildered, and noticed Sachi leaning against the wall, retching. He reached into his bag, and shoved around until he found the canteen he had received in town. "You saw yourself..." He trailed off, and grimaced. "Do you need a drink?" He proffered the full canteen of water. -

Edmond had exited the castle first when it halted, and was not surprised by the appearance of yet more people. We'll have a veritable army here... He was contemplating whether to forego introductions once more, or to spend the time, when one more figure appeared. It took a moment to process what he saw. A man...wait...he's been stabbed! Edmond took a step forward, but then caught himself. There's no way he could be alive with that many impalements. It must be some sort of magic? He averted his eyes momentarily, avoiding the gruesome spectacle, but he soon found his eyes inexorably drawn to the bloody figure. His slowly lifted his face once more to gaze upon the living corpse. He gasped, and then choked, for the man was no longer there. In his place was...Edmond himself. A copy, identical in every natural feature: short, coarse brown hair, the same green eyes, a slightly crooked mouth, and the standard Gliesian combat uniform. There was but one considerable discrepancy; he was dying. He had a contorted grimace on his face; the normally lively green eyes had lost their life, and spoke only of fear. His hair was matted over his face, slick with sweat, and he covered his chest and stomach with clenched fists. He stumbled, groaning, towards Edmond. He was not attacking, but fleeing--fleeing from something unseen, yet terrifying beyond all rational thought. Death... That was it. There were three holes of medium size through his torso, slightly singed around the edges, but still leaking blood through the mirror-Edmond's clenched fingers. As Edmond stared in horrified fascination, there was a small squelch as a fourth projectile shot through the figure accompanied by a sickening sound of his arm being torn off and falling limply in the ground, where it lay oozing. He could see nothing except the figure, but somehow he could tell that his comrades were dead or dying, subject to the same pain and fear that he was. He could feel the pain of leaving behind all those he loved, and for a moment, he had trouble distinguishing between himself and the imposter. The figure in front of him stumbled towards him as the life vanished completely from it's eyes. Aghhh. Wha...I can't die yet...not...not now? He stumbled backwards his nose stinging with the acrid smell of burning flesh, and in doing so, the figure returned to his previous form. That existential dread still hung like a cloud over him, and he felt for all the world as though he himself were dying at that very moment. He had known, when he joined the corps that death was the most likely option for him. He knew that he was fighting for those who meant something to him, and he had told himself that he was willing to die for them. But there was nothing that had truly prepared him for the abject horror of the life fleeing from his own eyes. Would anyone be prepared for that? There are those who are willing to die for their cause...and those who would live in unending pain for their cause... Edmond had always considered himself a selfless person, and even considered himself to be somewhat brave. He had considered the some of his best character traits....but I'm not. I'm not brave, not selfless...I should not be here. I am not fit to do this. He stood a moment, breathing raggedly. When the tall figure posed his question though, a faint spark illuminated the somber thoughts that rushed through Edmond's consciousness. Wait. I came...I was brought here for a reason. Someone...or something, called me here, summoned me. They made a choice, and had a reason for it. I was chosen out of a possibly infinite number of people. They chose me. Why? Edmond could not say, but that single thought sustained him, and he tried to shake off the misery. He could go on. "Somewhat. We've been summoned from many places to fight...something. I don't know more", he spoke quietly; still shaken, but not broken. Edmond attempted to steady himself, looking directly at the gore-coated figure. -

After about fifteen minutes of rest, Edmond weariness had begun to disappear. It was replaced by an assortment of vague anxieties. None were really reasonable, but they incited him to get back up and prepare for when the castle reached it's destination. He returned to the main hall, uncertain what to do. After wandering past Hikari, Sachi, and an unknown newcomer, he decided to make his way through the reactor room, and into the entrance hall. There he stood at the side of the castle. He stuck his head out the door, looking for the town. We should be arriving soon... A slight breeze ruffled his hair as he stood transfixed by the passing landscape. -

Edmond stared at Solomon and Mar as they focused intensely on their project, and soon found himself yawning. He quietly exited the smithy, and tried to find his way back to the servants' quarters. The beds had looked reasonably comfortable... He entered one of the rooms, and closed the door behind him. He looked around for a moment, and then lay down on the bed, and began to drift towards sleep. -

((OOC: Edmond was exploring, and anything that is not reasonable to pick up will be removed from this post once Murdoc sees it. So don't assume he has any of it yet. This OOC part will be deleted once all is confirmed)) As Edmond was exploring the castle, he picked up a few small items that interested him. The barracks were fairly spartan, and there was nothing much of use there. As he passed through the smithy, he grabbed one ingot, and 5 lumps of coal or charcoal. I need some sort of carbon source for most things...even if all I'm doing is making steel... The engineering bay would be of interest at some point, and Edmond recognized some of the machinery involved. However, as the castle was still moving, He thought he ought to wait a while until they were stationary before messing with the most likely magical machine. The servant quarters were of interest to him, and he slowed down as he entered. There were individual bedrooms here, and reasonably well-furnished ones too. He entered one of the smaller rooms, and began to search through the ((assumed, will remove if necessary)) the personal furniture, including the wardrobe and nightstand. I doubt anything from the rooms of the royalty has been left behind, but perhaps the servants rooms were overlooked? Search through one servant's room furnishings. As soon as he had finished his brief explorations, he wandered back to the smithy where Solomon and Mar were intently focused on some project. "Mind if I watch? Also...the castle feels like it's slowing down." -

"Used to? Does it still drive people insane?" Edmond took a small step backwards. "Actually, I'm going to wander around a bit more. I've never been possessed by strange magic, but that might be because I tend to avoid it." Edmond began to pace through the rooms, searching for anything he might not have seen yet. He hoped to find something hinting more at the creation, purpose, and mechanics behind this castle. Perhaps some nice weapons and other stuff too... -

Edmond stepped through the door, and approached the scraps laying on the ground, keeping his hand on his welder. "I don't really expect any trouble. In any case, there appear to be two piees of the sword, and 2 left of the armor. I have two more armor scraps in my bag from earlier actually...So take what you want, and I'll take what's left? That seems fair, right?" He spread his arms in a gesture that fairly obviously meant 'all yours'. -

"Which one? I haven't read the book on magic yet, as I hoped to wait till we were someplace slightly...quieter. So far I have been enjoying the Margites but I haven't finished it yet. As you may have noticed, the past two and a half hours have been rather busy. Did you ever pick up those shards of the armor that you left in the other room? I don't know whether that room is still accessible, but it might be a good idea to go collect them if you haven't." As Edmond finished his thought, he motioned towards the door to the hall they currently occupied, and began to move towards it. -

"Ah well, I suppose that makes sense in a way." Edmond could think of nothing more to say to Argent, and awkwardly turned back to the tapestries, still unnerved by the demon. -

"Both, if need be I suppose? It woudn't be that easy to actively build machines during a battle, so for the most part, I fight with my tools. Even as an engineer, I had access to some very good training in the LFC. We were part of a special operations division that was created at the beginning of the war. So...you're a demon?" Edmond wasn't certain thus far how to judge this child. -

Strider replied to Chevaleresse's topic in Trespassers of the Multiverse: Gaiden^2's General
"Well, I'm an LFC military engineer. I'm not sure where you come from, so I don't know if you know what that is, but I basically fix, design, and build mechanical things. I suppose in essence, that would be my main way of fighting too. I use my tools and my mechanical knowledge on the battlefield." That was probably enough for now. Through his knowledge of human children, Edmond expected this child to lose interest quickly, and turn the conversation towards a focus on himself. -

Edmond had his back to the center of the room when he was startled by a shout from behind him. He turned around quickly to see the demon-child staring up at him. "Well, I...wait. In general? Or fighting? What do you mean?" Though he could have answered both possibilities easily, he needed a moment to think. So, he prompted the child to repeat and clarify the question. That might be a good policy for any interactions, actually...I don't want to accidentally insult someone or insinuate something... With such a great variance of creatures and culture, prudence was necessary. -

Past: Edmond had not been surprised by the appearance of new faces, but that did not mean he was comfortable with them. Though he had, in the span of a few hours, become acquainted and friendly with a few of these people, he was no longer capable of attempting to introduce himself to every being that joined them. In particular, he was rather disturbed by the appearance of what appeared to be an adolescent demon, and had expressed this sentiment by avoiding conversation with the child. In many cultures, and most literature, demons were considered the very embodiment of evil...so why would they be summoned? Perhaps he's unusual, or does not come from a world where demons are inherently evil? It was likely one of those options, for it would be completely ill-advised to attempt to defeat evil in such a way that a different evil gains power in the process... Edmond had listened as the newcomers introduced themselves, and worked to find their places, but he was beginning to feel overwhelmed. Still hearing brief snippets of conversation interspersed with the grinding of machinery as the castle plodded along, he had wandered over to admire the tapestries and focus himself. This may have been a rather difficult task in a mobile castle, while surrounded by angels, demons, practitioners of strange magic, AIs, and criminals, but he tried anyway. Present: Edmond wandered around the hall, inspecting and admiring the weave of the fabric and the scenes portrayed, while munching upon a piece of dried fruit from the village. He steadied himself at each lurch of the castle. -
Not yet. Murdoc gave us a one time chance to change character stats, and fix a few underpowered and overpowered things. @Astrorious You can have decimal stats??

Edmond hesitated a moment before reaching into his pack and pulling out a strip of dried meat and wordlessly proffering it to the child. He was rather confused by the book Solomon had handed him, but decided to put it aside for another time, and instead focused on watching Kyle's interactions with the castle. -

"I would agreed that it is at least partly nonmagical. The control panel almost certainly works on electricity from what I can see...Though I'm probably not the best person to ask about magic, I know my circuits." He placed his feet firmly, and put his hand on the throne to steacy himself as the castle lurched to life. -

"I'm assuming that the monitor displaying the town is the one facing forward. So you should probably try to get a feel for the controls before moving forward." Edmond was pleasantly surprised that the vehicle had started up so easily. -

Edmond turned to the newcomer from his position on the dais. "Well, basically we've all been summoned here from widely disparate worlds. We fought a few battles, and defeated a creature that was creating a bunch of other evil monsters. And now we are trying to drive what seems to be a mobile castle."
