      Felicity

Man, has it really been a year since the last one? Fuck

  2. I know the official creators of Se7en are really busy, so here Red_Chaos, I took a screenshot for you in their place.
  3. My poor cat got himself stuck in the closet all night. Again.

      noooooooo! Kitty-Cat :,(

  4. Yes. Just- Yes. EDIT: I actually dropped this into my own version of essentials, and it looks really nice in game.
  5. Why didn't I see this yesterday!? They're so cute!
  6. Three hours into a map, "Oh, so THAT'S how you do that with these tiles!"

  7. He looks so pretty I almost forgot that he's such a butt head.
  8. I'm flattered you found my two cents worth adding to the OP. I really like what you added to it, as well!
  9. Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of 'don't forget' or 'don't overlook' the plot. This is a more detailed version: Video games can be a story-telling medium, like films and novels, with some exceptions. Pokemon is not one of the exceptions. It's so easy to get caught up in spriting, mapping, and coding, probably because that's what comes to mind when making a video game. But with all the cool game play ideas, putting effort into a compelling plot and strong characterization is often forgotten. You could come up with two hundred original fakemon, and throw in twenty new and intricate field effects for good measure; this might get the player through a couple episodes. But you can't bury a boring, cookie-cutter Pokemon plot and bland, uninspired characters under a mound of 'features'. After the dazzling glamour of your shiny new things has worn off, people will realize your game has nothing else to offer and walk away. What keeps even the most casual players (those who are frustrated by every gym) coming back to Reborn is because they can't leave the amazing story incomplete; let alone abandon the characters they've grown so fond of. Without it's plot, Reborn is just an infuriatingly hard Pokemon game with a lot of field effects. The number one thing you are doing with a Pokemon game is telling a story. Good quality sprites and maps are essential features to have, don't get me wrong. But fakemon and even Reborn's infamous field effects are also just features. These things are supporting material used to enhance the story, not the driving reason for someone to play the game. EDIT: @Dobby Oh, I completely understand that there is more to video games than just stories, and I agree with what you're saying. A lot of the best games have no plot; but they do have some gimmick, some interesting quirk that makes them good. But if you give a person a Pokemon game with the same old, "get the badges, beat the bad guys" formula, they're gonna get bored pretty quickly if you don't spice it up with some twist or unique feature (I was actually bored by the last couple of the official games for that reason, but YMMV). The reason I added that comment is because anyone looking at this page for advice isn't making just anything that qualifies as a video game, they're making a Pokemon game.
  10. Video games are a story telling medium, like films and novels, with a few exceptions. Pokemon is not one of the exceptions. A big thing I've seen in a few fan games is that the creators seemed to have forgotten about the importance of the story. They get so caught up in spriting, mapping, and coding, probably because that's what comes to mind when making a video game. But then they forget about putting effort into a compelling plot and strong characterization. Like sure, this game looks nice and has some cool looking stuff in it, but I'm not persuaded to play it. Why? Because it has a bland, cookie-cutter Pokemon plot and unoriginal, two dimensional characters. Something game makers need to keep in mind is that they are telling a story with their games. Having good quality sprites and maps are essential, don't get me wrong. But they are supporting material used to enhance the story being told, not the driving reason for someone to play the game.
  11. The missing 7th street number on the surface could just be a superstitious thing, like how some countries have buildings that skip certain floor numbers. Then the gangs just called it 7th street. Though that still begs the question as to what made the underground location in the first place.
  12. Map making is 70% productivity, 20% scolling to find the tile I want, and 10% fill tool mishaps.

  13. Why does it have to be RUSSIAN jet fuel?

WUUWUFEUFBVJ WTF IS UP WITH ALL THE JET FUEL BS. ಠ╭╮ಠ

  14. I'll answer as far as my knowledge of Reborn and competitive battling allows, although only that far. 1. My personal experience with Camerupt compels you to agree with you. 2. Sadly, Lucario is not available to you at the current point in the game. You can't reach it for quite a few gyms yet, unless this had changed in the newest episode. I don't know enough about fighting types to comment on any good ones. I'll let someone with more experience give you suggestions here. 3. As for a fire type, Arcanine is a great teammate, and still a regular on my team as of completing the available episodes. It's Heat Wave is a good move to keep, even if it's trained more towards a physical moveset, given that it changes certain key fields in the near and far future. If you postpone evolving it, you can get Flare Blitz on it and/or Outrage on it, or reteach it Extreme Speed if you want priority. The last move's really dependent on how useful you find the egg move that comes with it. Mine had Close Combat, which I kept after considering the coverage moves of my other team mates, but I don't know what the other possibilities are. 4. Vaporeon is a sponge that can tank a lot of damage other water types can't, and has access to Aurora Beam. Muddy Water is my preferred choice for STAB move, since it's secondary effect saved my butt so often; although it's not the most accurate, and Hydro Pump is way stronger. Aqua Ring is helpful if you have a chance to set up against a foe that can't hit it hard, and keeps it in longer. 5. Umbreon is a beast when it comes to stalling. Good choice, not much to say there. Put Yawn and Confuse Ray on it, and few things can touch it. I've found Gardevoir helpful as a special attacker with Moonblast, Psychic, and Calm Mind, but used it primarily to set up Misty Terrain to banish irritating field effects. As someone still learning, I only gave the advice that I was capable of giving, but this should help some.
  15. DEKUSCRUB CONSUMES ALL. Thanks for introducing me to this game, OfficialPotato!
  16. Frankly, the sheer amount of event Pokemon (and the massive sidequests needed to get some of those) in Reborn would take an eternity to type up here, and there's no doubt I'd miss around two thirds of them. Check around the On the Hunt subforum. There's undoubtedly a thread devoted to event Pokemon. EDIT: Ninja'd by Chubb, who's answer is way more detailed than mine.
  17. I just made ramen from scratch, although I couldn't tell you how I did it. I boiled some homemade egg noodles, beef stock, and random leftovers from the back of the fridge in a pan and by some miracle it turned out edible.

  18. If you have like, a legendary fakemon with a creative gimmick or something, I think you'd be fine. But like in Se7en, it would be a long term project to invent GOOD fakemon. One idea is to have the starting location NOT be a generic 'Pallet Town'. B2W2, and especially Reborn and the gamecube games had a good idea of it. But that's less of an add on feature and more dependent on the story's plot.
  19. Tell me Mega Absol doesn't look like a Fakemon evolution invented by an emo 13 year old who also draws bad Sonic OCs. I dare you.

    1. Azeria

      Azeria

bruhhh Mega Absol is fabulous whatchu on about...

    2. Hiss13

      Hiss13

Mega Absol doesn't look like a Fakemon evolution invented by an emo 13-year-old who also draws bad Sonic OC's. There I said it. You didn't say I had to say it in a non-ironic manner. :P

    3. Omega_Ra1der

      Omega_Ra1der

and it makes sense considering its a disaster pokemon.

  20. That's okay! The bigger it is, the more adorable fluffiness there is to hug! I don't even know what its stats are or what moves it can learn, but I can tell you that its going to be my main teammate. Yeah, actually, Pslamb and Kutlass were the only two that were missing their sprites. I thought there were more, for some reason. ... But it's still cute, right?
  21. Would it be possible for us to see a few of the in game sprites for the already revealed mons? Don't think I'm ungrateful, because these images are great and show off unique designs -- and it's awesome you take the time to do regular updates! I'd just like to see what they'd look like in game.
