  1. Man you're a monster, it's incredible you're already this far. 30 tries? You've got killer dedication.  I never knew that thing about corey's crobat not being able to hit steel types, that's actually hilarious.

Funnily I find solaris/john slightly harder than fern/blake and whenever I lose this fight it's because of them.

How does the game determine your partner anyway? I've only gotten Flobot on the solaris fight once but never again, it's always Julia now.

  2. The grand hall guys become too tough later on to be consistently reliable, it's a bit counter intuitive TBH. Like they really don't need megas if they're there for grinding, especially when they're probably at the level cap.  I guess we gotta "earn" our grinds but like when trying to catch up mons it's annoying since most things under 75 won't even last against say level 85 pixilate hyper voice megardevoir. Indra is a better bet but some of his  sets are kind of obnoxious too. Yellow is an easy team to beat but brown is kind of tough. The desert was one of my favorite places to grind but it's only accessible AFTER adrienne.  Idk why but the idea of strolling around the desert knocking out legions of 35  ft draconic palmtrees is hilarious.

  3. Charmander is fantastic, and early on OP. I used him flying run and we was decimating early game with dragon rage and as Charizard he's still quite strong, problem is that he can't get fire bonuses off fire fields due to his typing.  But with sunny day/solar power he's a something of a glass cannnon.

Chimchar of course is always reliable and quite good, though his fire movepool lacks field control you'll find in charizard's heat wave or typholsions' lava plume/eruption. How he's pretty fast, hits hard with close combat which he gets relatively early, and in every fangame i've played he's been legit. However certain fights will give him a hard time.

Cyndaquil is just kind of decent for early game, as his lacking movepool and poor defense is a bit of a hassle. However if you can teach it fire pledge early on(preferably before shelly) it'll be a lot stronger and due to flash fire his line can put out the highest damage on a burning field. Typhlosion is an absolute MONSTER on a fire field, as you probably remember from Charlotte. He also gets lava plume which can let him start said fires but I found lava plume pretty cumbersome in doubles as it hits your ally too, just make sure they're running protect or a nonphysical attacker who can resist it.

I never used torchic, but I hear he's one of the best. I never used tepig either, but I imagine he's not as good as his other fighter counterparts. That said I doubt he's bad.

fennekin is a lot of fun. Unlike the other fire starters she's not as offensively strong but her typing is good for the game and mystical fire gets a buff on misty field which let's her even take on shade's team. I find her underrated myself and she can do more than just damage..

litten is boss. Incineroar is slow as dirt but since a lot of leaders are gonna outspeed you anyway it's not that big a deal, as he takes hits better than most of the other fire starters and his typing is very useful.

mudkip I used last playthrough, he's quite good. He does struggle with some gyms but so does everyone to be fair. But I've  found him useful entire game and he has a good typing.

  4. Rock does NOT resist bug, and never has. This means bug WON'T be SE against his rock types. on the Reverse field, but will resist them. Keep that in mind, that might be where you're going wrong.  Masquerain should be using flying moves for SE damage.

flying, fire, normal, and poison will be SE against rock.

  5.

You know if you trained up an oricorio a little, she copies every quiver dance bennet uses(and nearly all his his team abuses that move) to where he can be swept with almost zero effort.  Two air slashes can take out whatever started dancing usually and after she  rips the rest apart.  It was my favorite strat against him episode 17.

But you beat him so conrgrats regardless. Though if I have to be honest bennet isn't really that hard and I'm a bit worried if you had to spend so many resources to beat him.

Haha thank you for the kind comments and for learning me the word 'quips'. I should get back to this run but work has been a time issue these months.

It's an E18 brand new feature. Overlevelled  pokemons will disobey you only from the next battle. When they get past the cap in-battle, they're still under your command. It's like they feel overconfident just because they won once more. Jerks.

Man I wish I had known this fighting aya yesterday, I used candies specifically to avoid them getting overleveled during the fight. Not that it would've helped too much TBH as she was giving me hard time despite having a better level average on my side. Good to know.

Oh yeah thanks for linking the canopy song, it's actually really nice.

And wow I didn't even know snubbull could come with close combat.

  7. My opinions tend to change on these, and I kind of feel differently between stages, but I'll shoot.

    Gen 1

base stage - Squirtle, he's just too freakin cute, and his anime personality was really cool.

middle evo - charmeleon is the only one whose look I really like, as Ivysaur just looks like a mean bulbasaur with a more developed plant and wartortle reminds me of an old guy.

final evo - all are cool but I think I like blastoise the most, though I've used charizard more. However the overexposure for charizard kind of soured me a bit on him. Plus blastoise is a bit more creative as charizard is just a typical  fire breathing dragon.

mega- Megazard X is the only one i really care for. The others have too many body parts going on but don't mesh elegantly. Well megavenus just looks boring to me.

    Gen 2

base stage - Totodile is totes awesome, and was the first starter I ever owned.

middle stage - quilava is easily the coolest looking of them, and my favorite from his line.

final evo - Feraligtr, though admittedly I found him kind of underwhelming last playthrough in Reborn and think typhlosion is undoubtedly better for that game, but otherwise prefer the gator.

    Gen 3

base stage - treecko just oozes this subdued coolness, whereas the other two are more typically cute.

middle stage- grovyle no contest. The other two look quite goofy honestly.

final stage - It used to be Blaziken, as he was one of the 1st hoenn pokemon to really appeal to me, but these days I prefer Sceptile, especially after playing emerald.

mega - Hmmm mega sceptile I guess for actually giving a new type, but they're all cool.

    Gen 4

base stage - chimchar easily, it was a no brainer the minute I saw him.

middle stage - monferno, not too big on the other two.

final stage - Infernape, and he's probably my #1 starter.  He's usually my first pick for first playthroughs of fangames.

    Gen 5

base stage - snivy easily, her dreamy eyes and smug expression puts her among the top among base form starters.

middle stage - Dewott looks pretty darn cool, let's you know he's nobody's chump anymore!

final stage - I actually like all 3, even the underloved emboar but Serperior takes it for me.

    Gen 6

base stage - chespin oddly enough, despite his evos being my least favorite starters period.

middle stage - Braixen easily. Braixen is just  really pleasing to look at and Pokken made her even better.

final stage - now originally it was greninja, and i still think he's awesome, but Reborn gave me a lot of respect for Delphox. Plus greninja's kind of become overexposed which makes me want to show delphox some more love.

    Gen 7

base stage - litten easily, much like treecko he's just got this coolness to him.

middle stage - Torracat I suppose.

final stage - okay this one is tough. Incineroar is freakin awesome and my favorite to actually use, but Primarina I like more aesthetically. I think I'll go with Incineroar, but it's really close.

  8. Leafon is not bad. It is a very classical grass type in regards to its versatility but if you need grass muscle it's quite the hard hitter and its defense is solid too.

Although Chesnaught is my favorite of the trio I'll take Delphox over an edgy anime plot devise frog any day.

Why is having hair coming out of the ears only a problem on the final evo?

I always found this a silly complaint as well.  It's a constant thing with the line yet only Delphy gets hate for it.

I use to like Gligar back in the gen 2 days,, so hearing it got an evo was such a great surprise. Gliscor does NOT disappoint and is always a blast to use, it can either turn into an earthquaking/acrobating wrecking ball or just act like a total dick sippin poison tea while the foes frustrates themselves to death trying to take down this tough bastard. Also while gligar admittedly looks a tad dorky, Gliscor opts for a much sleeker and cooler design,  Truthfully it doesn't look much like a ground type(looks more like dark/flying) but neither did Gligar TBH. Gliscor is awesome though, love this guy.

The edgiest pokemon ever, this guy won me over at first sight. His design screams badass, his typing is unique and thematically awesome, and while getting him is a journey for sure he can kick some serious butt if need be. He manages to be one of my favorite steel and dark types.

    Ferrothorn.jpg

The pincushion forged in the fires of hell(actually he hates fire), this guy is a monster. Probably one of the most useful pokemon ever and a total pain to be up against, I freakin love using this guy especially in gen 5 where he could just cockblock everything. He plays both his type's strengths very well and has a bunch of neat tricks, even using his horrid speed as one of his greatest assets. Curse/gyro ball from this guy just hurts, and unlike that pansy steelix ferrothorn's attack power is actually solid. Like on paper you'd think ferrothorn would be boring but he's one of the funnest pokemon to use IMO.

Rotom rocks, and is just such a great pokemon. Simple yet standout design, a subtle Pulseman homage, a cool gimmick that gives good results, a lot of fun to use and just a charming and fun pokemon that I can't help but love. I feel like Rotom should get some new battle forms though, I always loved the idea of him becoming a TV or game console.

As someone who finds pikachu overrated and overplayed, having  a pokemon as "The antipika" seemed genius to me. While a dark/electric evil pikaclone could've achieved this GF being the mad men they are went with a fresh ghost/fairy and made Mimikyu a pikachu-obsessed unseen horror who's desperate for friends and imitates pikachi via a shoddy disguise and a wooden club for a tail. It's not just amazing execution there either, but in battle its disguise ability makes it great to use and an absolute PITA to fight(hello Shade), with mimi basically getting a free turn to do whatever it wants: trick rooms, buffs, tricks, whatever. In the SM games I found mimi to be one of the most challenging  totems(especially for my psychic monorun...ugh swept me at least 7 times straight) and an absolute monster for battle tree. GF struck gold with this little guy.

The early bird emperor, Staraptor is the bossest bird whoever birded his way into existence. This guy played a huge role in me getting back into pokemon, as I was THAT impressed by him first run through Diamond, especially considering how dorky starly/staravia looked. And that cry. That cry, Ugghhhh such an amazing pokemon.

DAS QUEEN. Maaan fem-mons tend to be pretty good looking IMO but Alola brought us some of the best ones yet. Primarina, salazzle, and Tsareena all knock it out of the park(okay so Primarina is debatable but it's pretty effeminate looking) but Tsreena might be my favorite. Her stance and mannerisms rock, she' can hit hard or play support, and while Lilligant and Bellossom did the "plant waifu" aesthetic before Tsareena outdoes both of them for me personally, as she feels like she's out to dominate and trample  fools whereas the other two are more cutsey and dainty looking.

My favorite starter, and my favorite fire type. This guy helped me get back into pokemon, and every diamond playthrough I've done he's been a beast. Infernape is just freakin awesome with a great design and one of the coolest sun wukong inspired characters in videogames. Also he sort of resembles Star Platinum a bit too.  Not sure if it was intentional but accidental Jojo references are cool too.

THUG LIFE but no really Scrafty is incredible. Great to use(well fairy certainly did a hamper on him), creative design and concept, cool type mix, and just oozes personality and charisma. I love using Scrafty on playthroughs as it always delivers and feels like a pokemon that GF just got right on all aspects...well I feel like it should learn sucker punch but alas. Scrafty was my favorite pokemon for a long time and still is to some degree despite the nerfs.

        mega_lopunny_vs_mega_gardevoir__by_danie

Megalopunny is probably my favorite pokemon now in days. While I have mixed feelings on megas, Megapunny IMO is the mega executed perfectly: take a pokemon lacking in potential and turn it into something great, while building on its design in an interesting direction that freshens it up, or at least makes it cooler(as in Lucario's case). I already liked regular Lopunny, but Megapunny improves it dramatically and makes it really stand out not just among megas but pokemon in general. The idea of her turning from a playboy bunny esque thing into this female ripped tights aerobics fighter is pretty rad, and her stats went from ho hum to efficient killing machine, not to mention putting the scrappy ability to better use than anyone else. Lopunny always had a cool moveset but lacked the stats to back it up, something Megapunny fixes. While gen 6 is my least favoritte generation pokemon wise, I have to give credit where it's due: mega lopunny is one of GF's finest creations. Love this girl.

My only issue with it is it's gender ratio and it takes me better part of an hour to get any female starter same issue with Primaprima

It is a nice feeling when you see that little red key next to ehr icon when you're naming them, only for that feeling to turn into disappointment when you end up with an adamant nature or in Reborn/rejuv's case single digit IVs or something lol. Then you either keep going, or spend the next 20 minutes resetting lol. After a certain point I just settle for an okay nature or just figure, "at least I can breed."

Ahahahahah thank you, probably both but mostly a madman. Don't blame Silvally-Grass, he was a pretty good counter for Garchomp, Metamence, Kartana, and so many others. Wolfe glick had Politoed, Magnezone, Salamence and Tapu Bulu, all of them lost to my Silvally-Grass, mixed with multi attack flamethrower ice beam and protect. It has been a very fun match, especially since the game 2 ended up with a milotic/porygon2 stall I could win

    This sounds pretty amazing.

^Yeah zoraora is one of my more liked mythicals at least in design.

0_0 whoa! No idea you played in that. Silvally grass? GRASS? You're a madman, or a genius, idk but wow.

  14. jsrObtY.png

The amount of hate delphox gets is frankly gross, and really undeserved. Okay, Braixen is a top tier pokemon design and totally charming and I get preferring her over Delphy. But that certainly doesn't make Delphox bad, and while it's 3D model is...lacking, it's certainly not the only pokemon with this issue and there's plenty of well designed ones with less than stellar 3D models(Haxorus lol).

But first I want to start on how people  are so bugged how Delphox isn't "cute" anymore. This is a very silly complaint because none of the final starter evos save for Primarina arguably  are trying to be "cute," as their designs are to suppose to invoke some sort of maturity. We see this from fennekin being a big head fox, turning into a cute little witch and then maturing into a wiser looking warlock/wizard. Delphox isn't about being cute, though I argue it's far from ugly or gonky either and definitely has a softer and more androgynous look to it compared to every other fire starter, who usually tended to have more masculine or harder designs.

I can understand not liking the color palette as much, but the design functions well as a progression from Braixen/fennekin in fitting  the spellcaster theme of the line, and I feel it's more natural than chespin's progression. Admittedly I was lukewarm on Delphox at first but seeing it animated and outside the games, as well as using it on a playthrough and reborn made me appreciate it a lot more. She's probably my 3rd favorite fire starter evo now, which is funny considering how fennekin is my least favorite fire starter base form.

Gameplay wise, delphox IMO is one of the more interesting fire starters. Fire starters tended to be very offense focused but delphox was a bit fresh in how she was more versatile and could  play support just as well, something previous fire/psychic types didn't really bother with or do well and it's made her kind of unique in that regard. She's not all that great competitively but for single player and fangames she's a surprisingly fun pokemon with some interesting depth that makes her more flexible in some ways compared to most of the other fire starters. Personally I found her to be one of the funnest starters to use in Reborn.

How do you guys feel about Delphy? Disappointing? Underappreciated? An acquired taste?

    YwoLXd2.png

  15. Last playthrough it was ciel because cheer oricorio is a goddang monster on the circus field in that fight.

But in general it's Luna. Her field is really boring and basically just buffs her damage and moonlight, 3 of her pokemon have a dual weakness, her team is fairly slow, dazzling gleam gets powered up on her field so it's good against her dark types, sableye and umbreon are a bit weak offensively, and as long as you KO honchkrow before it can gain momentum it isn't too bad to handle. She's consistently been the easiest later-half gym leader in the game.
