    Romance / school mangas seems to follow this pattern: 

    - 1st year: The distance between the main characters closes, then opens, the closes and they begin to date

    - 2nd year: The couple faces difficulties, but they solve it by remembering their love for each other

    - 3rd year: They decide on their career paths, and support each other

     

    This is present in quite a few of the romance/school life extensive mangas, and I like the way this is portrayed.

      you forget the nearly always prevalent transfer student that nudges the plot

      @DemICE Yeah, that one. The transfer student can either enter in the middle of the first year of in the beginning of the second year. They can be potential lovers (but get rejected anyway) or become friends with the characters. In either way, they help progress the relationship of the main couple.
