  1. I'd go out with a bang and say: "Fuck you tacos I am not a man for fuck's sake"
  2. The way I see positioning working out is by either just using grid systems and having that be sadly the only requisite the system has (which is "sort-of-okay" in my book since most tabletops DO use grid systems and that's just the best way of doing it) or having the host themselves manage distance by just using meters/measurements I.E. "A wind archer can move up to 10m every turn. Their attack range is 50m. In this battle you're 100m away from the nearest enemy - This enemy moves 30m towards you" and so on that'd take a little more imagination to put the scene together, but it's doable. Either way, the idea is that the system will have some sort of movement module that deals with that, and that module itself should be adaptable to the same ideology of allowing it to work on any concept. This system as a whole WILL take some amount of work on the host's part to use, but the idea is that the tools to manage these systems will be made/pointed to alongside the system itself. All in all it's meant to be an "Rp combat care package" sort of deal that will ship out with all the tools and documents you need to host any game on the system
  3. So with the advent of Pyon's Fire Emblem on the Forums game I've realized it was a good time to put into execution an idea that I've been toying with for the better part of this year - An universal system for playing tabletop RPGs on the forums, in a format that is easy to learn, easy to administer, and simple to customize, thus giving both DMs-to-be and players both new and old a grasp on the system with a simple glance. The idea of this system works on the concept mix-and-matching two sets of "keywords" that create an unique class. These keywords would be "class name" and "modifier". For example, let's say I'm working with an elemental affinity system with the elements - Fire - Red Water - Blue Wind - Green Earth - Brown Light - White Darkness - Black And the classes - Warrior Mage Cleric Rogue Archer My "modifier" is the correspondant to the element I chose (for fire, red) and the class name is, naturally, the class name. So, in this example, I'd have six variants of the "archer" class - Red Archer Blue Archer Green Archer Brown Archer White Archer Black Archer Each individual class + modifier combo alters how skills and stats work, giving each character an unique functionality even if they share classes or elements. Using generalized fashion, the idea is that the system would work with the idea of five base "classes" - Melee Magic Ranged Healing Exploration With six generalized modifiers - Attack/DPS Defense/DPS Speed/DPS Attack/AoE Defense/AoE Speed/AoE That doesn't mean a "healer" class has to be "defense" or "speed" - since each class concept works individually with their modifier, an "attack/aoe healing" class would be focused on single-target heal and single-target damage, boasting high values for both but having low defense, whereas a "defense/aoe healing" class would see lower heal numbers in exchange for higher resistances and AoE healing. The idea of creating a system like this is creating a class system that works with any game - The names are generalized so that you can change class names at will to fit anything from medieval to sci-fi roleplaying games, with the added benefit of being able to use a reliable and estabilished set of rules that focus on the main idea of being easy and simple to learn. The main idea is using skills, stats and traits to balance and shape out how each conceptual archetype works, and having modifiers work by making each skill work differently for each archetype. Using our "archer" example above, let's say I give the "archer" tree this skill - True Shot ( Attack Elemental modifier) - Deals (Weapon) + 1d4 damage to enemy. Bypasses defense. "Elemental modifier" lets the player and DM both know this skill works differently dependant on player element - So let's say I'm using a Red Archer, and I have the hypothetical modifiers below: Attack Elemental Modifiers: Fire - + 1d4 damage Water - + 10 to hit chance Air - + 2 crit chance Earth - + 1d2 splash damage Light - + 5 hit chance to nearby allies for 2 turns Dark - + 1 crit chance to nearby allies for 2 turns So in that system, the "true shot" skill used by a red archer would deal "Weapon damage" + 2d4 of damage thanks to its elemental modifier. While a "White Archer" would buff her nearby allies by using the same skill. That way, each playstyle acts and feels unique, with each character concept being able to full execution, no matter which concept that is, by mix-and-matching these modifiers and classes. This system is also made in several different fashions by simply changing a few ways things work. For example, in system A we have the five base classes - Riot Shield Grenadier Sniper Field Medic Scout In this system I've decided that classes learn skills by leveling up, so each player will just choose a starter class and progressively grow stronger within that one branch line. In this other system, I've decided to go with a prestige system - Swordsman -> Fencer -> Duelist -> Knight -> Templar Mage -> Wizard -> Magus -> Combat Mage -> Spellthief Archer -> Hunter -> Beastmaster -> Crossbowman -> Sniper Cleric -> Acolyte -> Priest -> Apostate -> Abomination Thief -> Rogue -> Bandit -> Thug -> Assassin So this time characters grow stronger by branching through classes as they level up, creating a more specialized class system. In both scenarios this same system is applicable, the difference being how the game master will create and balance skills. So I initially planned on doing this all on my lonesome as I usually do, but upon realizing that may be other experienced tapletop players here who'd be interested in this system, I've decided to throw the idea out to see both who'd like this to exist and who'd like to help with it existing. The biggest issue with this system is clearly balancing it so all modifiers feel equally powerful, as well making sure the system is easy to customize without being complicated to understand. So yeah! Who's interested?
  4. Since you're apparently hesitant to discuss online functionality, allow me since the anti-cheat system for online is my brainchild and was already explained to it's great extent from when it was first envisioned. If your save file is flagged as a file that has illegaly obtained a pokémon, and what constitutes an "illegal" pokémon is dependant on several factors, then you're locked out of online battling permanently within that save file. That's about it.
  5. As someone who has suffered, as some of you are aware, personal loss due to an accident on traffic - even if in my particular the motorist was in no fault at all - I feel the need to take the opportunity here to caution pedestrians as well. Too often have I seen people rushing down the street on a green light to save themselves at MAXIMUM ten seconds. We've all done it. I'm no exception to this myself, but even if this will be a fairly grim reminder, I'll state this nonetheless. One car/bus you don't see coming as you're walking, one misstep on a place that you're not really meant to be walking on to begin with, it can cause you months of pain. It can kill you. And in all my years I have never experienced anything as soul-crushingly despairing as having to wash the blood of someone you love off of your clothes.
  6. GODDAMN IT I WAS DISCOVERED

  7. We'd be a tsundere X yandere pairing. That'd be either the greatest or worst thing the world has ever seen.
  8. I feel like saying you're "cheaping your way around a boss battle" demerits the people who originally came up with the fairly clever strategies to beat the garchomp and the arceus boss battles. Even if not, it's still a strategy. It's the way around the game. RPGs have unwinnable battles - Although I don't like the usage of the term, if we were to go with "canon" the MC loses to Garchomp and likely sides with El following the fact that both these battles are meant to be unwinnable. So the alternative dialogue/paths unlocked by beating those battles is not the "main" pathway and are meant as a reward for a player willing to go the extra mile. I could agree with nerfing mandatory boss fights, but nerfing winnable optional bosses would diminish their impact in the game. The Arceus battle is meant to represent the fact you're fighting a god. It's meant to make you think "wow, I wonder how strong the real Arceus would be if I fought it instead!" and it's meant to create an impact on the player. If it was an easy fight, all that impact is lost. Suddenly the overwhelming power El is looking for is a lie and his entire religion is pointless, because an avatar of his god is that easily defeated.
  9. I don't disagree with this statement at all. In fact, I think it'd be great if the OP could find a way to help him that kept both him and them safe from any potential dangers. It'd be ideal, but ultimately, my initial concern is that OP themselves isn't harmed by this in any way. That said, everything you said is spot on. It'd be great if they could help, and there's a lot of good things that can come from helping (if they can even do it), but there's also benefit in cutting the relationship off if it's too dangerous to maintain.
  10. I'm not assuming anything. I'm stating that contacting his therapist in any circumstance is less than ideal and your statement that they're going to hide this information from their patient irks me in two ways. One, if the patient ever finds out in ANY way, ALL the therapist's work is over. The trust they've built up is COMPLETELY shattered so it's far more likely the therapist WOULD inform their patient of this contact, out of professionalism alone, or because they know expecting the emotionally invested friend to keep quiet about their meeting is unreliable. If they don't tell him, eventually she will, and that'd fuck everything over. That includes a phone call. It includes e-mail. It includes any form of contact whatsoever. It's no unusual for therapists try to maintain themselves as detached from the patient's life as they can to avoid anything that can compromise their impartiality. That includes outside contact, and it shouldn't occur in any way shape or form that aren't strictly requested by the therapist and approved by the patient. Two, which is closely related to one. Would you consult a psychiatrist/therapist that lies or keeps information from you? I wouldn't. The moment I feel I can't trust the person I'm opening myself to the most, I'd feel violated, offended, and that I can't trust anyone. It'd probably immediately do major damage to my therapy so far, and I can say I'm in a much safer stage than the person being discussed. Lastly, if you want to be passive-aggressive and get offended over my calling out your statements, that's your prerogative. That said, given that this discussion plays a direct role in whether or not someone helps or harms a person who may in turn potentially harm them or themselves, I'd appreciate it if you kept that distaste from oozing out in your speech or trying to imply that by giving my opinion I'm in any way trying to stop you from voicing yours or by trying to put words in my mouth. It's unseemly. All this said, yes, they should contact an impartial third party that has a background in psychology or psychiatry and is uninvolved for the more reliable advice. Simpler, funnier version:
  11. Let's go through these one by one. From the second you know you're not qualified you should not be giving any advice to begin with. Yes, asking for help is okay, yet that should be done through the proper channels. Seeking advice in private in okay to do, but an online pokémon fangame forum is hardly the right place to seek help to begin with. As for contacting a hotline or the guy's psychiatrist directly to tell him what's up, please don't do that. The person will likely feel cornered and is likely to lash out. Most people with depression have control issues and feel like circumstances on their life happen outside their input. Because of this, feeling like they've had control from a situation away from them (even if they weren't in control to begin with) is likely to make them very uncomfortable at the very least, or become completely uncooperative. While this person needs help, it's not the OP's duty or right to make them seek help. The reason is very simple: Ultimately, people with attention issues do not, in fact, want or seek help. I'll elaborate on this below. Neo isn't wrong. It'd probably be better for you to cut off the relationship. The truth is, the way your current relationship is, it's very unlikely that you will be able to help him at all. That said, cutting it off suddenly isn't the best way to approach it, as it can cause the intrusion of privacy to evolve into full-blown stalking. Again, I'll explain more below. While cutting him off might be the cause of a domino effect, it's not entirely an incorrect plan of action. Ideally, you want to cut him off as soon as possible, and for crying out loud, the idea that you have to withstand a toxic relationship because you're a "source of happiness" is inherently wrong. Friendships and romantic relatioships are symbiotic relationships. If you're in a relationship where the only one who gains is the other party, then you're in a parasitic relationship, and that will harm both of you in the long term. Now I'm going to repeat this one and I'm going to make it extra big and highlighty to make sure I get the point across: Do not contact his therapist/psychiatrist or any professional helper without being specifically requested to do it by him and him alone. No one likes to have their privacy violated and this contact might make him feel he has no safe ground anywhere, when information is fed to their therapist without them having the chance to filter it first. Doing such a thing can help, but it also has a much, much higher chance of causing his treatment to end prematurely and be more harmful than helpful. Encourage him to seek help if you wish, but NEVER do it for him OR contact the people helping him UNLESS HE ASKS YOU. That may have worked for you, but that doesn't mean it'd work for everyone. The way you word your post makes it seem that OP is forced to help him, which they aren't. You're also assuming this will end up for the best no matter what, which may not happen. If OP invests into someone and that person takes the most statistical path of not finding any significant amount of success in their treatment, they will also deal extensive emotional damage to OP themselves. It's not right to tell someone they have to help at their own expense. OP deserves to be done with this as soon as possible for their sake more than anyone else's. Now that all that's said. People with attention issues have to seek help on their own. When you give him the attention he craves, instead of helping him, you're feeding into his addiction. No matter how much he outwardly wants help, subconsciously his brain processes that acting in a certain way gets him your attention, which gives him what he craves. I'm specifically talking about attention because the way you describe the evolution of your relationship falls precisely within how most attention-seeking parasitic bonds form. The person has to initially work for your attention, so the "high" they get from it is increased. The more they gain it, however, the weaker the "high" is and therefore they have to go to more drastic measures to gain the same rush as before. This is a self-destructive behavior that the person usually is not even completely aware they're doing. They fall into a vicious cycle of "false help" unconsciously and in their mind, they are likely under the impression they in fact are seeking help when they're truly only making their problem worse. The only way this person will get better is if the impetus to better themselves comes from them and them alone. No one can hold their hand and make them seek help because they'll simply be unresponsive to the treatment while maintaining the guise of active participation. You have to remember people with low self-esteem usually self-sabotage themselves without even noticing, therefore it's necessary to have great care when helping someone like that to see if their request for "help" truly is for the better or not. At the end of the day, the more time you spend with them, the worse off both of you are. You're feeding into his psychological issues and no matter how much you want to help, the end game stays the same. He gets progressively worse and more noxious until the relationship completely falls apart. Your best course of action is to slowly separate yourself from them, while encouraging them to seek treatment themselves and sternly, but not aggressively, letting them know their behavior hurts you, them, and your relationship, encouraging him to seek this change himself. Above all, do NOT attempt to help him on your own unless you are a psychiatric professional yourself. I'm assuming you aren't, therefore you are as unqualified to assist him as the greatest majority of posters within this thread are to post advice on this matter. You have to take care of yourself, and whereas you can encourage treatment, you're not responsible for it and you forcing treatment on them won't work. Above everything, make sure you don't let yourself be affected more than you already have been by this relationship, take the necessary steps to wean yourself off of it and move on. And most importantly, remember this: If this person ends up doing something immensely stupid, it's not nor will it ever be your fault. You're catching a moving train, and although you can change which trails it takes at some point or another, you are not the conductor; The destination is not your fault and never was up to you.
  12. How do you feel about the fact that I've changed my avatar to match yours and consequentially this means we're probably going to see at least three other star guardians showing up likely within an hour of this post?

  14. The developer who took their code and left wasn't me. The reason we decided to start from scratch is because I last worked on the project nearly a year ago and at this point the time I'd waste understanding my previous code would be better spent guiding Marcello as he coded the system from scratch. I taught Ruby to Jericho, Marcello and others. The multiple mentions of respect stem mostly from the fact that I created, championed and led the development team idea from start up to my voluntary leaving of it. Yes, it would be possible. No, it wouldn't be practical.
  15. There's also another system in place that prevents pokémon that haven't been officially released yet from being used in online battling, so while yes, you can get them, it'd effectively make it so your save file can't battle online due to having them. As mentioned before, not a man. And as of a few months ago, I entirely left the development team. I had largely finished implementing the online system on my own last year, but setback after setback kept pushing me away from development as a whole. Eventually it was decided to scrap the system we had and remake it from scratch, and I assigned Marcello as it was already by then my intention of leaving the team to his hands. This game has bugs. That isn't going to change. Yeah, introducing a new feature oft brings with it new issues, yet it's better to add them and gain the experience manipulating them rather than shying away from challenge. As for backups, yeah, we already have a backup save system. Given that the game saves before each online operation, that by itself should help prevent the great majority of all online-related data corruption issues. If that still doesn't do it, well, players have *always* been encouraged to save every five steps, so I don't see why that would change now.
  16. Ahhh, the seasonal "Reborn is too hard" topic. Seems the trends are coming early this year.

  20. I didn't expect your thread to ever die. Did you? And do you think that it's going to get spammed to hell and back with more questions now that I brought it back to the frontpage?
  21. Okay! So when this topic was initially conceived, we didn't intend for it to last as long as it has. Instead, we planned to have other "get to know the team" topics like these happening sporadically. Instead this one has spiraled out of control and although it has worked to serve its purpose, it's by far outlived it. Most questions asked nowadays have already been answered, making it sort of a pointless exercise to maintain the thread. So I'm cutting it short now. Don't worry, though, there will be other, similar threads to come. (In the meanwhile, most of the discussions here can be moved over to the status discussion with no ill effects) As always, thank you for your time.
  22. Way less time than it has, to a point where I'm considering euthanasia. I already expected coding not to take very long - and it didn't - but circumstances certainly affected development and we didn't get as many systems out as we wanted. While not a pokémon that is currently unavailable, I've alluded before that I wanted to add a secret eevee starter but was ultimately not able to since people would cheat to figure out where it was. Player Yes
  23. They should be charged for perjury without intention. Not recently since I've been lazily not doing anything the last three weeks, but generally yes. Yep. Born and raised in Brazil. I've left the country several times, yes.
