I kinda getcha here but at the same time, Valarie, Adam, and Saki (especially Valarie since most of the people are from Akuwa town, and she's charged with their safety) want to save every single person trapped on the island, so missing Aelita is a big problem to them.

Yeahhhhhh, the level curve is pretty bad at some points. There's often just not enough fighting between the previous gym leader and the next boss that you can often go into these 5 levels under, especially if you're at a point in the game where there aren't any new help centers to get exp from. On my last run I just spent all my spare money on the rare candy vendor in Gearen for when I was feeling underlevel'd for the next boss. I bought a grand total at least 40 rare candies and ended up using about 30 of them. Didn't change up my party of 6 at all after getting Type:Null and Heracross before

Mega Heracross that early on in the game would be ridiculous, it's only the 2nd gym leader.
