Ymora Academy Chapter 1: Bonds [IC]
Chase replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Helene and Oswald As she approached, Helene got the sense that making as little eye contact as possible with the janitor would be the best course of action. She felt like the man had a long day ahead of him at the very least, and understood any disdain that could be had from his position. However, she couldn't help but smile as his Pokemon counterpart cut the stone-face (ha, Geodude, stone face) act out enough to at least placate Pan's curiosity. It was the first kind gesture her or her Pokemon had received at Ymora. "Sir, I'm so sorry..." She calmly phrased, shooting Pan a look of disapproval. Pancham smirked in return, as if he was that disobedient child you caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but there was no way you could save the cookie from being devoured. "Pan, we might visit Geodude later, if it's alright with Mr. Oswald." She then nodded at the gruff janitor with a hidden understanding that it wouldn't be her intention to disturb the man again. Helene then picked up Pancham and filed in behind a girl, Skitty in tow, who seemed to be distraught by the now ridiculous line, overhearing a "You've got to be kidding me!" as she closed in. "I was here early for this too!" "Join the club, sister." -

Arms folded, Helene followed an ever-exuberant Pan into the registration line... where promptly, the Pancham caught sight of another Pokemon and bolted. "Oh no..." Pancham were dubbed for their playful nature, and Pan was no different, but now they were indoors. Helene made a concerted effort to stand on her tip toes and searched for her Pokemon anxiously, finding it acting surprisingly calm. However, they weren't out of the woods yet. Pan had it's arm outstretched toward a Geodude in greeting. The Geodude seemingly belonging to a janitor who already seemed none-too-pleased with the frenetic proceedings he was surveying. "Great...Well, there goes my place in line. I'd better go get Pan...." The girl allowed the people behind her to take her place and walked quickly in the direction of the Janitor, reading the name 'Oswald' on the man's name tag. -

Helene finally stood up, nodding at Pancham wordlessly in a subtle indication that it was time to move. She had already had her ID card safely on her person and visible as it was nestled in the lanyard she wore around her neck. Her registration papers were neatly secured in a folder residing in her right hand and were ready to be accessed quickly as well. She inhaled and stretched as Pancham curiously watched other students and chattered to himself. "Pan?" The Playful Pokemon turned in acknowledgement. "There will be plenty of time to make friends, okay? Relax..." Her attempt at being the "Pokemon Whisperer" didn't quite ease the Pancham's tension. She didn't really know why she tried to acknowledge her Pokemon as if it were a human... Maybe it just seemed proper. A Kalosian woman was supposed to be sophisticated, clear, and concise... or at least that's what her mother would say. Regardless, she was sure Pancham didn't fully understand either. The pair had a mutual need for one another, but that didn't mean they had the ability to communicate to one another outside of commands and requests. Maybe that might change someday... "C'mon Pan, before the line gets too long then..." The pair made their way in the direction of the main building, following the traffic of the students that seemed to be knowledgeable of the school's layout. -
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/ru-278311339 I really want to share this battle with you all. My opponent's is pretty darn good. Alomomola and Amoonguss form that ever-so-dreaded RU Regen core that will keep you in a match for as long as you need, his Jolteon is fast enough and likely Specs enough to break things I would have needed. Nasty Plot Doom is fast AND almost insta-ready to sweep, and Flygon is one of the better mons in the tier when it comes to glue and clearing rocks. On top of that, Scrafty is incredibly dangerous. SubBulk Gallade is the reason RU has been a beloved tier for me.

Hmm, but I also think it's impossible to say that lying is always voluntary. For example, let's bring up noble lies - or lies that benefit others as opposed to the one lying. Not all noble lies are free will decisions. For example, a known serial killer asks you where your friend is and you know that that person intends to kill your friend. That person doesn't willingly say "I don't know where she is" or "Yeah, she's [place where she really isn't] completely freely. Liars can lie for benefit, and for avoiding the opposite, for themselves and for others. It's because of the various intents behind lying that House can safely make the assumption that "everyone" lies. He doesn't have to be right in saying so, but he has to be "more correct than not" in the assertion, which is hard to disprove. I sure as heck don't know anyone who has ever been completely truthful. The experiences most of us as humans have don't support the opposite to the hypothesis. As far as our own individual knowledge? No, it's not the most testable thing we can test and not something we as humans can know, but the personal experiences we as humans have seem to be indicative that the hypothesis is true, that everyone lies.

Debates between truth-seekers are fun, so long as the arguments are sound. With you Gaunt, I would encourage you to bring evidences supporting your claim instead of being the pin to a balloon. That's not a debate so much as it taking a dump on the nature of the debate and doesn't really help your cause. I do think you hold a little bit of ice as I do too, and perhaps you do lack mercy as I do. I really, really, really can't stand ANYTHING being lifted above life outside of God Himself. It's a rather ignorant way to live in my eyes - albeit the same can be said for those like me who don't completely understand how Justice, Autonomy, or Care outweigh life itself.

A Grinder's Lament - featuring Graveler. Oh, Graveler you cruel stone, Oh, how your experience I wish to own. Oh, how your resistence causes my plight and how your destruction causes me unwilling flight. Oh, Graveler all I wanted was your wealth. Oh, how you deny me in your lack of stealth. Oh, how I loathe you so, Your death is a crime, and with no experience, I must go. Seriously though. Self-Destruct + Sturdy? That's just MEAN Game Freak.

We have a trio of ranked matches and a few sprinklings of good conference opening play this week. #23 West Virginia at #15 Oklahoma - NORMAN, OK - 11:00AM Central Time - Fox Sports 1 Saturday morning kicks off with a battle of ranked clubs right off the bat. The Mountaineers will be sneaking into this game with their defense allowing less yards per game than Oklahoma's hoping to start an October run that includes FOUR currently ranked teams. Oklahoma will be donning it's home "Rough Riders" uniforms for this one, preparing to host it's first nationally relevant home game of the 2015 season. There's an upset alert alarm going off somewhere - as the Sooners will need break through West Virginia's defense in hopes of outscoring the opposing offense. # 13 Alabama at # 8 Georgia - ATHENS, GA - 2:30PM Central Time - CBS This will be a battle of tailbacks between Derrick Henry and Nick Chubb between the hedges on Saturday afternoon. Alabama will need to solve it's passing woes if it hopes to overcome the "Underdog" card that it hasn't had in a very long time. Georgia QB Greyson Lambert will play X-Factor in this one, looking to give Chubb the room he needs to secure the win at home. # 3 Ole Miss at # 25 Florida - GAINESVILLE FL - 6:00PM Eastern Time - ESPN The Gators are in the top 25 after an improbable four-and-oh run prior to Tennessee's second choke job of the year. Ole Miss will be facing yet another ranked test on the road in defense of it's championship chase. --- Minnesota at # 16 Northwestern - EVANSTON, IL - 11:00 AM - Big Ten Network This game features a 3-1 team whose lone loss is to a team currently sitting in the playoff bracket (TCU) and a team with wins over Duke and Stanford to reach a thus-far undefeated record. Texas Tech vs # 5 Baylor - ARLINGTON, TX - 2:30PM - ABC/ESPN2 The Red Raiders will try to put a miraculous game-losing catch behind them as the rival Bears will look to start of their quest of a third straight Big 12 title. # 21 Mississippi State at # 14 Texas A&M - COLLEGE STATION, TX - 6:30PM Central Time - SEC Network The Aggies will christen newly-renovated Kyle Field with it's first ranked match-up against a State team that is looking to rebound further after a crucial win over Auburn. Maroon everywhere you look in this one. # 6 Notre Dame @ # 12 Clemson This "somewhat" ACC match-up pits a battered Golden Domer squad on the road up against it's biggest test yet. Clemson may be the highest I've ever recalled seeing them ranked, and with a win they would pass up Florida State (who plays Wake Forest this week) as the ACC's best team. Arizona at # 18 Stanford The Tree will be looking to defend the Farm from a 'Zona squad that is looking to rebound from their primetime thumping againt UCLA last week. Houston at Tulsa The American Conference has a couple of teams on Saturday that are squaring off with decent records - with the lone loss of the two schools coming to a ranked foe (Oklahoma). Houston comes into the game with a win over Louisville.

Once upon a time, Fox used to be the broadcaster of the greatest medical drama to grace television, starring Hugh Laurie as the intelligent-yet-unlikable protagonist Dr. Gregory House. Once upon a time, yours truly was proclaimed to be the much younger female spitting image of the same doctor. In order to explain how I work, I figured I would recall that comparison because after connecting the dots, that assertion is actually rather on point for the most part. I'll present five positions Dr. House holds and I'll compare the similarity in the view. There will be one rather blatant disagreement, but that disagreement is held with similar disdain, so it earns itself a spot here. Here we go. Dr. House and Hilda Weiss both hold a strong disgust for the concept of theistic/lack of theistic beings. "If you talk to God, you're religious....if God talks to you, you're psychotic." - Dr. House House goes out of his way to patronize those of faith. Said faith clouds his patients and his colleagues judgement and hinders his ability to do his job. House is a firm believer in the meaning of life on Earth itself, and is a strong opponent of life being meaningless without a God figure in the picture. I think those of you in this community know I -do- believe in a God with the same zeal, but at the time this show began to air, this wasn't always the case and this was originally an influence House had upon skeptical Hilda, which would make this a similarity back then much more so than it is now. However, the reaction House gives believers is similar to the reaction I give inadvertently to those that identify as "Nones". Whenever I am not holding a judicious debate with non-believing opponents, and God is being brought up, my responses become acidic in the same way House's do. Who can judge my prejudices though? "We're all just mistakes anyway, there's no reason to be self-righteous, right?" In the same way House views life as meaningful without God, I do contrast with him (albeit in similar fashion, yet again!) that life without God is indeed meaningless. Both House and I make very intellectual approaches to support our opposing viewpoints in the show and in my life. Both of us contain zeal and consistency and antagonistic attacks in our dealings with opponents when not specified to be cordial or a reasonable debate. Dr. House and Hilda Weiss value Life over Autonomy, Justice, and Precaution. "This is all there is." In the show, House is often seen committing malpractice in order to solve his cases, going above the limitations provided to him by his boss, his staff, his circumstances...and even his own PATIENTS. House seemingly tries to net the saved life in every show, most of time succeeding. As a doctor, that is his job - and he will go to great lengths and ignore any unnecessary roadblock between him and doing so - or at least between him and solving the case. "Autonomy" Autonomy is the freedom of external control or influence, and in medicine particularly, it's the freedom of the patient to decide what happens to their body. In one episode of the show, House's patient issues a "DNR" (Do Not Resuscitate) motion - thus opting to die regardless of the case being solved or the ability to live being possible. House's views on autonomy are put to brilliant display here when in comparison to life itself. He ignores the motion on the grounds of the patients previous physician misdiagnosing him - and he ends up saving the man's life. If you've seen the movie 'The Incredibles' - you may remember the beginning scenes of the superhero movie. Mr. Incredible, working alone, is surveying the city on his wedding day, and finds a man who appears to be standing on the ledge of a skyscraper with the intent to commit suicide. The man does indeed jump, and Mr. Incredible intervenes with the attempt by catching the man mid-fall and landing roughly in what appears to be a bank, causing the man bodily injury but preventing him from dying. However, that was the man's intent. To die. This results in Mr. Incredible being SUED by the person who's life he SAVED! Like House and Mr. Incredible, Hilda has an aversion to total autonomy being greater than the preservation of life. My champion political issue is ending most abortion in America (a well known fact about me) and whenever pro-choicers provide the woman's autonomy into the argument, it triggers a disgusting response (save for intellectual discussions) about how the fetus isn't a part of the mother's body to begin with (rather, it's supplemented by it), and how I really don't care if you feel our right to our own bodies means the fetus doesn't have a right to their own bodies. My view on that issue is that the baby's life is worth more than the woman's right to control what happens in her own body in that instance. "Justice" The Hammurabi Code is one the oldest judicial documents we are aware of, establishing the "eye for an eye" policy of justice. House doesn't do things judiciously all of the time, and cares more about solving his case than he does for things like.... fair organ distribution based on the requirements and what not. House does all that he can for his patients lives despite their deserving their right to live. I am a strong dissenter of the death penalty, even if the defendant is a mass terrorist or serial killer with more blood on his hands than he has in his body. Life is more valuable than justice. "Pre-Caution" House and myself proceed in a a very "end justifies the means" procedure when it comes to saving life. Just watch....any episode of the show to see where this comes from on House's end. Erasing someone's memory to cure heart attacks? Lying to medical boards to procure organs? costing Princton-Plainsboro lots of money? This list goes on and on. I am one who is very nearly ready to rake Planned Parenthood over the coals (going back to abortion in my case.) and while defunding the program is very drastic for lots of women (and for some reason women who aren't involved with the abortion process...Grr.) This is an area where a government shutdown and defunding is needed in my opinion. I speak harshly to those who threaten to commit suicide as opposed to cautiously. In many experiences, I would have to say that I value life over caution too. I'm Sorry, Did I Hurt Your Feelings? "Hell is other people." - Sartre This one doesn't need a lot of explanation. Dr. House is not a cuddly teddy bear all of the time, and neither am I, when it comes to assessing the human condition. Both of us make disparaging remarks about idiocy, incorrectness, and the like frequently, even to the point where the individuals we interact with are emotionally damaged for it. The point being made here is, House and Hilda have an introverted preference for data and logical reasoning over emotional discourses to the point where we become ignorant of how others feel oftentimes. Ruthlessness Over Mercy "This is a ruthless world and one must be ruthless in order to cope with it." - Charlie Chaplin Now, let it be known that House would be more inclined to agree with Chaplin above, but the both of us are unfailingly unreliable when it comes to being merciful. Again, see any House episode ever on his end, and Ame can personally attest on mine. The pursuit of Truth is the most satisfying chase... "The un-examined life is not worth living" - Socrates "Don't you want to find out what's killing you?" - Dr. House House may by default value the preservation of life, but if there's anything he does more-so than that, it's finding out the truth. House is a character based on the detective "Sherlock Holmes" and like Holmes, his goal is to have solved the mystery by episode's end. In my experiences I have come to realize that I too am a truth-seeker than I am anything else. I hate being lied to. I am more interested in historical happenings than most. I am inquisitive and I take exception to bullshit quickly. ...hopefully you guys enjoyed a little bit of insight as to how I operate. Maybe you didn't. Always remember, everybody lies. I will whenever you say something. (Ha.)

Dill Pickles with Ice Cream, An Announcement Story
Chase replied to DJ Mewdeon ft Dan Punk's topic in News and Announcements
Frankly, before this gets swept under the rug. You the costumer, should have arguing power here. If you already purchased a room before this post was made, you purchased it with only one stipulation. - That the room be used. Meaning, so long as the room was used, you are NOT obligated to pay these folks any more rupees than you already have paid them for your room. This change in policy was communicated in a manner that was forceful and even though I am part of the team that brought it to you, I encourage you previous room owners to fight it. The object of the rent-a-room policy is so that they can clean the room list efficiently. It's merely spring cleaning. You're going to get offered two options (which Ame failed to provide in the original post, conveniently.) in that you can get a full refund or a free year of purge protection. I urge you to take neither and fight for a grandfather clause. You only have one condition to fill in your contract. That your room be used.- 10 replies

Steelers. This one is a rivalry game and it's in Pittsburg. Vick will do what needs to be done to keep it interesting, and Le'Veon Bell will carry 'em to the W. ...Miami?... Indy Buffalo Carolina Philly evens it up Da Bears H-Town (No, the Falcons don't own Texas...) KC Pack Broncos 'Boys (Sorry Rose, at least we both know we're not playing with the ideal QB.) Lions.... I don't think Seattle is that good.

Heisman game picks. Fournette > Oopsilanti, Michigan - that poor defense is going to get trashed, and Fournette knows how to make it look as bad as humanly possible. Boykin > Teasips - The Longhorns have the defense to pester Boykin...a little, and Texas' Offense isn't that bad. The X Factor in the ball game will be if Texas can outscore Boykin and the rest of the Toads' offense, and I don't think it's likely. Kessler >= U-Dubb - The Huskies have been battle tested this year, but like I said last week "It's too early for the Trojans to be considered for elimination." This doesn't mean Washington is out of it though. This will be a good Pac-12 game. Mayfield = 'Eers - Baker is going to need some help from his running game in this one. Last season, WVU looked to be in control at home until an Alex Ross kickoff return fired up the Sooners and brought the momentum to a man named Samaje Perine. Oklahoma has the running game to offset the Mountaineers' incredible pass defense, and this battle of what should be ranked teams is the next obstacle in Mayfields way to the Heisman. This game will help determine if he -really- should be on the list. Russell > Sand Aggy - The Red Raiders are fielding a very porous defense and the Boogs are the most lethal offense in the nation. This will be a race between Russell's throwing arm and that of opposing QB Patrick Mahomes, and the difference in the ball game will be that Baylor's defense may have turned the corner in it's lockdown of Rice last week. Last week, Texas Tech was a safe pick for an upset. They're not this week.

It's about time this place got itself a couple of Presidents, because too many of you don't even have Bike Vouchers... Vinny and I will be taking a more involved approach with the Pokemon Fan Club, insuring that the right threads are where they need to be. Firstly, we would like to differentiate the difference between Fan-Games and Hacks and where threads about those two topics would be best suited. Fan-Games are better suited for the 'Fan-Game Expose' forum, because they are very far from licensed Game Freak/Pokemon Company items and the 'Pokemon Fan Club' forum is supposed to be the center for licensed content first and foremost. For -now- Hacks are alterations of Game Freak content, and the argument can be made that a Hack is suitable enough for the Pokemon Fan Club. As such, you may put threads regarding Hacks here. Secondly, we would like to give a friendly reminder that if anything is involved with Reborn or Rejuvenation, both of those games have their own areas on this site. Reborn has a plethora of forums dedicated to servicing and entertaining you, and Rejuvenation has it's own subforum in the expose. What CAN go here then? Content about official Pokemon games, and spin-offs licensed by the Pokemon Company. The Anime. The Trading Card Game. Hacks, etc. Thank you all for your hopefully warm reception, and we hope to keep seeing threads about Pokemon! ....Well, Idk about Vinny, but I do.

This is one of those questions where my heart is screaming "the means" and my head is screaming "the ends." I think if means are unavoidable, then obviously the end justifies the means - but that doesn't make it a moral decision more than it would just be a decision that may prevent the loss of more life than necessary. If there is no reason a decision like that should be made in the first place, than the means are not justified by the end. It -is- very situational.

Does anybody else ditch their starter in these games?
Chase replied to TheGamedawg's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
^ Who needs a water starter when you can usually find something like Magikarp pretty early on? Aside from the challenge of training it (which may be appealing for some!) Gyarados is a perfectly viable companion in any of the main series games, but if you picked up a Mudkip or a Froakie or something, why would you think to use it? You don't need a grass starter when you can pick up Shroomish, or go after an Eeveelution like Leafeon You don't need a fire starter when you can again go for an Eeveelution like Flareon or something like Magby or Growlithe in Gen 5 or something. Fire starters make the most sense as it's not easy to find Fire types in comparison to the other two. -
Does anybody else ditch their starter in these games?
Chase replied to TheGamedawg's topic in Pokémon Fan Club
When I started playing i always thought the Pokemon on the box was something important, so I kept Charizard with me during my first Pokemon playthrough on Red. The only starter I would consider keeping on my team nowadays is Chespin, as I absolutely adore Chesnaught. Aside from that, the moment I caught that Poochyena during the DexNav tutorial in ORAS, that replaced my Treecko. There are so many other Pokemon out there that can fill the void your starter has and can do it ten times better. Eventually I got to Petalburg Woods where I encountered Shroomish, and Breloom is just as good a Grass type as Sceptile would be. I think Competitive Battling kinda shed some new perspective on this for me. Prior to getting into competitive play, I always did get that "bond" with whatever the starter was, even if it wasn't particularly smooth to use it. Ditching allows you to go find a sixth Pokemon that you wouldn't be looking for because the starter would cover that hole, and like the Shroomish above, there are some really good Fires, Waters, and Grasses out there for the taking. -
so, it was a rough day for my picks yesterday - but there is something that needs to be said. 1 month in - and we have NO IDEA who the four representatives are. 1 month in - and it would seem the year of the SEC is not this year. Vanderbilt and Arkansas fought very closely with Texas A&M and Ole Miss, putting their strength in doubt before losing, which is indicative of not only "top heavy" by also "vulnerability" for some more of the conferences top teams. 1 month in - and perennial contender Oregon found a way to be eliminated from the chase after playing in the biggest game a year ago. 1 month in - and the Big 12 contenders are still 7 deep (yes, Tech lost, but only by three on a godsend play - I almost got a winning record this week.) 1 month in - and we're starting to get a good feeling about Jim Harbaugh's return to Michigan. Their 31-0 shutout of #22 BYU decimated the Cougars remaining hopes of busting the playoff bracket - and after Utah ran the Oregon Ducks out of their own house in Autzen, Michigan's loss to Utah looks mighty forgivable too as the Utes should be a top 15 team at the very least.
