Grinding up to the level 50 mark would help, but you have quite a few battles to go through before any significant parts so you can probably train off the grunts.

I think it has to be a clear day for it to appear. It has to be rainy in the beginning for you to activate the event then clear when you try to catch it. -

It shouldn't, its only an update pack and your save file is located somewhere else anyways.

Well you're probably on the wrong level. The lava should be one level above you and just go around to all the pillars and try them out.

There should be a person in the building filled with stairs during a rainy day if I'm not mistaken and you can mine the keystone.

Just change the date on your computer and you won't have to wait. -
Mudkip and Spiritomb are in the Wastelands in the (secret) grotto, you still need a key stone, and for the mudkip you have to talk to someone first to activate it.

You are smashing the wrong ones, the ones that you have to smash wont have a battle at all. You go from the highest possible and you keep smashing the rocks until it goes to the bottom. Then you go back up and clear the next level.

I would say fire, it really helps in the game but there are a couple of decent fire types you can pick up along the way and you can also get a water type early on but its useless at lower levels (Magikarp) so if you want balance then you should probably go for Snivy or another grass type.

Then you don't need to talk to anyone else. Just go back to the room I was talking about in the grotto and you'll find a secret path. The one with the two pillars on either side. -
Pichu: on the roof of the building in Onyx ward, left of the arcade. Just go in and out until you can click on it behind a tree (left of the entrance for me). Nuzleaf: left of the Beryl gym. Use rock smash and go into the cave. On the other side you fight a level 65 shiftry, then you can grab one afterwards.
