That's one thing that usually gets overlooked is that capturing a Pokemon in a Poke Ball does not make them your slave. Pokemon can attack and rebel should they not see their trainer fit (which is half the reason why people collect gym badges in the first place). Legendaries are rare (if not one of a kind) and contain strength well beyond the average Pokemon. Generally, I prefer there to be reasoning behind why that pokemon obeys you instead of some "Gimmie Legendary 'cause it's a legendary." Again, to each his own (since I'm not writing this. Just making suggestions).

Not trying to downplay anything but making Giratina a main evil is kind of cliche considering it's considered the equivalent to the devil in Pokemon lure (I mean you can do a paradise lost thing, but...just wanted to share it). But Crescelia and Darkrai (mostly crescelia) aren't really given any signs to seal anything. If anything, Giratina created Darkrai. If you are going to have a big significance on Giratina, I'd focus a bit more on what he is known to represent: distortion aka chaos. The opposite of chaos is generally order or law (Arceus is the best example...with Judgement). There are plenty of pokemon who can fit that description if you stretch a bit beyond Sinnoh (cough*unova*cough). But if you do use the lunar duo, I'd use something regarding the moon in this seal idea.

My laptop isn't even phazed by having to be on all of Saturday and today (just a normal day for it honestly). However my internet can get crappy because everybody in my household likes to watch netflix at the same time. So glad I'm almost done with all these tweaker files (seriously where did that 9 GB even come from).

That "Bad-Ass" Pokemon Side-Quest that starts in the Grand Hall
Commander replied to 4thWallCeci's question in On the Hunt
I realized something. What if this whole Magikarp hunt wasn't even for a Magikarp in the first place, but an entirely different fish. And to answer your question, it's unfinished as of right now. If you listened to what the people said, it shouldn't be too hard to get to the last point (on seventh street). -
Um, any one here like... Animal Crossing?
Commander replied to 4thWallCeci's topic in Gaming General
Animal Crossing is my stress reliever. Seriously, if all hell breaks loose, I pull out that game and start playing it (usually an hour a day). I do go through on and off cycles of it though. But yeah, been a fan every since the gamecube days (and new leaf is amazing). -
So I'm finally current as of episode 15 my thoughts.
Commander replied to Dangit Ron Paul's topic in Reborn City
I know there's my slight mod version that basically amped up the teams for the hardcore mod in fan game expose as well as I believe Raindbow Dash worked on one as well. I don't know as I don't look too into it. There are still many ways to make the normal reborn quite challenging such as that challenge run I had (and oh lordy is that hard). Even that still has a lot of rough patches (and a ton of AI problems) which I tried to work most of them out. I still have a huge list of fixes to work on for Ep 16's release. But basically, I tried amping up the difficulty to pre-nerf Aya and Charlotte as that is what people seemed to really like and talked about. But I basically think Reborn is really well done (even down to leader team) and all I really needed to do is touch them up a little bit. The normal game is still quite enjoyable and I can find myself against a wall once in a great while. -
Gen 3 vs Gen 5 Tiles - Which side are you on?
Commander replied to Caz's topic in Resources and Tutorials
Appeal wise, I always thought gen 3 sprites were able to stand out better and look a bit more appealing (Gen V sprites were cool, but didn't quite look as polished). The one thing I like about Gen V sprites is that you can do many things outside of Gen III's like hand and arm movements giving player sprites a bit more expression or actions. If you're up for a challenge, expand to Gen V due to its uniqueness, but Gen III almost always will look nice especially when you have to create your own palettes. -
Jacob has the final say in everything. I know that. This is just a little something to help people who are in the wall when filling out that app (sometimes I throw a personality in an app for the sake of having a personality) and allows to give better insights to the characters. I tried to pick questions that wouldn't effect much of what Jacob is developing right now. (Besides, it also makes for a fun pastime). A tiny description rarely gives you the full insight of a character. I'm glad you guys like the questionaire thing (it's really fun reading what people respond). It's a simple, but effective way of building characters I've learned over time. And I may as well give my answers for Clark:
-
(cracks knuckles) Let's get this thing started. First off, I may as well fill one of those leader voids so here's an app (for that): Alright, now to make a questionaire thing for people who struggle getting their characters fleshed out (try to answer from the characters perspective best you can. You can do anything from quotes to a general description) This is just an idea how to get started. I'll eventually put my answers up, but again, I'm a little busy right now.

What diagnosed disorder(s) do you live with?
Commander replied to MoneyMadam's topic in General Discussion
Eh, I kind of feel a little out of place considering I only have ADHD. It's not very noticeable until you're around me enough and then the off topic tangents begin. -
Generally, I start with basic scenarios to see how a character would react. They all start out pretty generic then get into more personal ones. I'd make a list of ten questions now, but I have a few errands to run, but will do one when I get back. Also, please nobody take the Ground leader while I'm gone. I have a pretty good idea how to fill that one (and it won't have Garchomp, Flygon, nor Excadrill).

I can already tell you there are plot holes and gaps without even having a full grasp of the story (I don't even know what the region or world he has is like). I don't know what Ultima Admin/Aces' roles are, but it'd be nice to have something outside of a generic battle to progress the story (same with Gym Leaders). A while back, I used to do writing a lot of novels so the planning stage is something I have a bit of experience in the planning area. I am NOT writing this game's plot, but here's a good example of everything I'd need to even begin working on it: -80% of the characters fleshed out as well as all of the important characters fully fleshed out (as well as trying to get a very good understanding of them. Trust me, I would flood you with questions on each of them) -Goals of the project as well as important plot points that are required in the storyboard -A fleshed out world with any important features/towns (I could make my own, but I need to have a good grasp on the region and what it's like) -A fully committed team who are dedicated to this project through thick and thin -A scheduled 2-3 month planning period (I prefer longer since I consider that rushing) before even beginning development It might seem like a lot or tough, but that's general standards for doing the planning stage. When you're going solo, you can kind of mix these things a bit more together, but this is a community project (or should be). Based on that, it's probably best to start fleshing out your own characters instead of discussing plot or plot ideas. May I also suggest somebody edit one of their earlier posts to include all of the current info on the leaders (you guys can decide what to include). It's a cluttered mess trying to search pages and pages for all this info and having one spot to refer to will make everyone's life easier.

It's 1am which is pretty much the point I'm a little out of it. The idea is more to keep this place from being a cluster of random ideas and have better hammered out ones put on the board. It honestly doesn't bother me whether people PM me or not, but I find it easier to discuss things over a topic like this because it's easier to read and respond. To each his own though. As for the whole story, I don't know how Jacob is handling it. 17 people writing a single story will not work. You can throw ideas, but somebody has to be drafting the final picture. What worries me is that the game is already in development and how fast this "story" seemed to develop as most of you created your own characters for it. I'd like more clarification on how this idea is going to be planned out. Everything is moving unusually fast for something in the idea stage. The problem now rests in the number of options that can resist ALL of its attacks. An evolved Pokemon that early in the game can barely stand on its two feet against this (usually two shotted) and Aerodactly does not have laughable defense being fought that early in the game. You don't want to force people to run Marshtomp/A Water Starter just due to one Pokemon's difficulty being that unbalanced. I can't judge the situation too well as I don't know what will be available at the time. Right now, I'm basing it off of a typical main game's options (ie stuff before Brock in Kanto, Pokemon before Cheren in B2/W2, etc) and there'd need to be quite a handful of good water types to consider this fair. This is kind of off putting as there'd be no point in picking a water starter then due to the diversity. That's something that'd Jacob and his crew would have to decide and design as they know the game better than any of us.
-
And thus the hell breaks loose. Part of the reason I'm only playing on the sides is how convoluted and confusing this story is going to get considering it's being based off characters from 17+ different people. I'd probably pick someone in the group to kind of take charge of the whole story, but one who is a bit open and knows how to weave ideas together (but also know when to say no). But generally, both people have to reach an agreement before accepting or denying an idea. Personally, I'm for people trying to get the leaders a bit more connected to each other (something that was unheard of until B/W), but try to not leave anyone out. I can rarely create good characters without building off of another. I don't suggest doing all that here, but on PMs because it'd just make this one big clutter mess and ideas take time to develop. I'm pretty good with character and team building so you can PM me if you want, but generally feel it's more rewarding to think of things yourself so I'll usually only give advice or options. -------------------------------------------------- And Pbood, theory is just theory and that's what we're doing. I hate to pat myself on the back, but I'm definitely in the upper half of the competitive battlers on here along with experience using a modified version of essential's AI to create those Reborn Hardcore leaders (who all still had to go through at least 4 revisions, sometimes 15) along with basic knowledge of programming. Basically, I can pretty much back up anything I say with ease. What your saying is something that occurred during Hardcore Corey. Jamak may have given him a Scolipede. That Scolipede was so broken that it had to be nerfed twice and was still way too strong to handle and was moved to his stronger team to replace Mega Beedrill (another problematic Pokemon). It would be axed entirely if it weren't for the Flame Burst OHKO. Even now, it's really high on my list to axe because barely anything can handle it (and it runs some really weak moves to boot). Aerodactyl and Scolipede both have similar stat spread, but there's a 15 level difference when comparing those two (not to mention Corey is the third leader while this is the first gym leader we're talking about). Aerodactyl as an offensive Pokemon is way too strong for that early in the game and even heavy nerfs is pushing the envelope so it might have to be removed.
-
I'd like to get a level cap on what the first gym would be, but I highly suggest getting ready for some edits. Aeordactyl might be way too strong (and Mega is outright unfair) so if you run it, make sure it runs a weaker set of moves (or make it a defensive one by giving it stuff like Sandstorm. What I love about early game teams is that you can really personalize them to suit the trainer compared to later ones. My general impression of this one is that the leader likes to use status moves and tricks over sheer power slowly killing their opponent (kind of like Florinia). Murkrow, Vivillon, and Drifloon suit that spot perfectly (and Aerodactly can be redesigned to be like that with a bit of work). You haven't covered for electric weakness so Gligar, Rotom-F (that's a first), or Emolga can fight that spot. Natu or Sigilyph are fun to play around with if you want to get creative as well. There's a little something missing though that I like to call the trump card (aka the WTF Pokemon). If you want to make a fight unique, don't bound yourself to what you think is good. Make it good. Mantine/Mantyke, Tropius, Togetic, and Delibird are great candidates for this. Yes, I said Delibird.

Oh for the love of Arceus how many times to I have to say Stealth Rock isn't as big as you think it is. Besides, AI won't bother with Defog (unless you have a very high talent and want to completely rewrite essential's AI which would take a very long time). I get annoyed when people recommend competetive strategies as essential AI is not a human player, but a machine. Generally, I'd like to see an early game Flying leader because there are a ton of underrated Flying types that would perform well there such as Mega Pidgeot, Masquerain, Chatot, etc. It's probably one of the most fun when your not a late game leader. If you are a late game, Mandibuzz is a must as that is the only tank flying type out there (well outside of Skarmory). As for Talonflame...dondon was right saying it wasn't that much of a threat. I actually had to axe it on Ciel's team for the pitiful damage output (even with a Life Orb) for hardcore. Early game it'd be a threat, but Charizard is a better option imo. Tropius is another one I can recommend for an early game team. That thing can be an absolute nightmare to the point I might have to axe it for a certain leader. Seriously, don't limit yourself for Flying types due to its huge diversity. Pelipper is another one people forget about as well. It evolves very early making it eye catching for a leader team in the early stage.
-
Yes and no. Leaders will switch based on certain scenarios. If their current Pokemon can't do anything (or crap damage...that's important) they will switch into something that can damage the Pokemon. Leaders aren't programmed to function well under stalling unless you pick a certain moveset to work with. Still, the damage from stealth rock is pitiful and really won't make that much of a difference (I think stealth rock is useful...just overrated). For most Pokemon games, hazards are worthless, but they can be useful in a few scenarios. Toxic Spikes has the most uses due to poison scaling, but the others aren't as useful due to being harder to obtain. Stealth Rock has uses, but I wouldn't bother covering for it because the typical player doesn't use it.

This is where Metagame =/= good in game (and half the reason leaders like Ciel are laughably easy). I've done this enough to give decent advice on each. Cloyster: Waterfall is better for flinch hax (and is slightly stronger). I'd make it Adamant because not much is going to outspeed you after a Shell Smash (outside of a priority move). Weavile: Life Orb is fine, but Scope Lens is something to consider. Not everyone uses items (I think I only run 2 or 3 with them) so Night Slash is often better then knock off considering item selection. Low Kick can be a little weird with the AI so I always feel brick break is more reliable and effective. Ice Shard is worthless most of the time considering Weavile's speed and is better used for another move like X-scissor or Poison Jab. Glaceon: If you have to use it, double team is a must. You're gambling on dodging as Glaceon usually can't one shot anything which is devastating. Hail lasts for a very short time which is why I don't recommend it. Glaceon isn't bad, but it doesn't suit your team design (you'd need to drop Cloyster as a lead and have something with Hail...Cloyster can be used outside of a lead though). Mamoswine: Again, Ice Shard is worthless on something fast. Not much else to say (I've run mixed for Serra and that works fine for me) Rotom: Choice Scarf... I think it's honestly the stupidest tactic people use in OU (and sometimes pretty much makes it an auto win for me). Ranting aside, go with either a ultility or tank by giving it Light Clay with Reflect/Light Screen or Leftovers with Will-O-Wisp/Pain Split. It's got bulk so you may as well use it. (I gave Blake's a Magnet for Hardcore because Rotom doesn't really need an item half the time) Glalie: Personally, I run a Timid one, but to each his own. Don't run protect because the AI won't use it half the time. If it's your ace, don't run explosion, but I like explosion on this baby because of the sheer amount of damage. Shadow Ball isn't bad if you decide to make it special based. (Super Fang is also fun to run on it).
-
Dude...Cloyster is like the best Ice Type and second to Weavile. It's also a fantastic coverage to Fire along with Mamoswine. Those are the deadly 3 ice types as I call them. Mega Abomasnow...is pretty bad for games which pretty much makes Glalie the surperior mega (and that thing is useful). Aurorus is a little underrated and has an amazing movepool making it the special version of Abomasnow. Jynx isn't a good fighting coverage as that thing will go down to any fighting move. Avalugg is probably the best defensive wise against that. But what to use pretty much depends on where the leader is placed in the game. Crygonal is godly in the early game and can be a major threat due to its speed. But the first draft is a really good hyper offensive (outside of Glaceon who is a little slow) while the second is a little more balanced.

Even for a first area, those maps seem very uneventful. If you're going to have that little amount of wild grass, I'd make that area completely full (kind of like route 1 in b/w) as that is the only place to catch and grind stuff. The rest just seems like a long walk and battling trainers. I know X/Y did something similar to this on their route 3 (or whatever one has the fountain), but there was a lot to look at such as a garden maze, a fountain, and the fact is was huge. But yeah, don't be afraid to throw a couple little extra stuff for treasure hunters and explorers (because there are plenty of people like that). As for the Town, it's not bad for a first or starting town (but it'd be bad for later on areas). I'd at least connect that bottom path connecting the two houses to the other path and remove the connection to the road because it looks a little weird.

Number 10 Black Sludge I don't use it often, but sometimes I run this on Trick Alakazam on my playthroughs as messing with my oppenents is fun (and trick is one of my sig moves) Number 9 Heat Rock Ever since Gen VI made the change, weather rocks are valuable on weather teams and can do quite a bit. One trick I tend to do is keep Ninetales alive in the red if I can and switch him out at one point to keep the sun up. Very underrated item (and quite fun using it on those Hardcore teams...especially Victoria) Number 8 Exp Share (the old one) You don't know how much use this thing gets when I play through a grinding session. It makes getting those weak pokemon strong a breeze. I know the new one is better, but at least I don't have to box switch with the old one. (Or be overleveled). Number 7 Focus Sash If you know what you're doing, this can make a glass canon last a little bit longer. Usually its made for leads, but sometimes I run it on a member who doesn't necessarily need one. Sash + Blaze is an amazing combo Number 6 Sitrus Berry My general rule of thumb when gym leader/boss building: "When in doubt, Sitrus Berry." It's a very useful item when you don't know what else to use. Number 5 Choice Band/Scarf/Specs I put them all about the same because different ones have different uses. It's hard to manipulate the AI to use one effectively, but when they do, you better run. Number 4 The Mega Stone I have mixed feeling about this one. I like a lot of the "weaker" megas because it makes useless Pokemon useful (such as Bannette) and can really be made memorable. Mega Glalie on an Snowy Mountain is scary as hell. If that thing uses Explosion, everything but a Thick Fat Walrein is probably going to die. Number 3 Power Herb It's kind of sad how forgotten this one gets. It's actually helped when designing hardcore leaders such as Charlotte making the laughable Solarbeam typhlosion back into a major threat. I do play this item on Xerneas, but I wish I used it a bit more outside of that. Number 2 The Life Orb This item is godly no matter how you put it. A boost in power plus the freedom of moves can help out so much. I love this item so much and I probably use it a bit too much. Number 1 Flame Orb Considering Trick is my sig attack, you can imagine why I like this baby. It has many uses such as guts and completely stopping your oppenent from being a threat. Burn is my favorite status due to how useful it can be when well played so an item that creates burn is useful for me.

Hmm...I can get a brand new PS4 for $260. Should I buy it?

That's half the price the PS4 is in my country, so if I were you, I'd take it, even if I don't like PS anymore.

Le sigh...I guess I'll throw some more about this whole issue. Trust me, I keep a close eye on the fan game expose to avoid conflicts like this. Not everybody is going to like reborn so youtube comments are bound to show up like that. Generally, that's either their opinion (or trolling) and it's best just to accept it and move on. People have different tastes (or are bored) which is why we have the selection of video games we do. THE MAJORITY HOW PEOPLE RESPOND TO IT HURT REBORN MORE THAN HOW HURTFUL THE COMMENT WAS IN THE FIRST PLACE! I want to emphasize that for a very, very good reason. A general problem in the world as a whole (especially in writing) is that people don't except faults as they view the stuff as perfect. Reborn is also a community so having members bash on people or other games only gives people the wrong impression of us. Back when I was part of a writing community, I sometimes got backlashed for giving criticism instead of saying how perfect a story was (which is a huge reason why I left). So you are really not doing anyone any favors (except the troll) by pointing out or getting upset by a youtube comment. If you are going to respond to a youtube comment, make sure you aren't going to get upset over anything. You have to make sure you are polite, kind, and most importantly respectful. If I would say something to him it'd probably be, "I think both games are fantastic, but reborn isn't made for everybody." If he responded with a troll comment, just walk away and leave. It's that easy. And Jamak, (points to giant capitalized letters above) that is exactly my point. And before anyone says anything negative about so-and-so youtuber, he could actually be a fan of Reborn. Sometimes people say stuff just to get people riled up and angry. And let's stop with the naming because it's pointless as it'll be someone different the next day. Shofu's frustration is a bit different. I'm not sure whether he keeps playing it because he kind of enjoys the fraustration or more that the fans want him to continue (probably more of the latter), but I honestly think it is hilarious due to his skill level. Pretty sure half the things he says are to vent his frustration. (I think we've all done that at one point or another...cough hax queen cough).

I'd say Noel is the only really big issue in the regards (Luna technically was, but she was on the easy side). I mean yeah you're going to have to grind a new Pokemon once in a while, but that'd be 20 minutes unless you want a whole new team. I can say a bit more about this due to the trainer changes in the hardcore mod I helped create. Having more fully evolved Pokemon did pretty much reduce the grinding effect to the point you will be right at the cap for Florinia (due to an increase for Julia) if not be overleveled making easy to have rotation teams. But yeah, hardcore has a major surplus of exp to the point I used a rotation team when testing (even used a Dodrio up to Radomus) which is useful as you pretty much can't beat a leader with a team of six. The only place that grinding is a problem is at Noel which is why I considered putting a chansey there. As for the vanilla Reborn, I rarely found the caps bothersome or grinding took that long (outside of noel). It doesn't matter what rpg you play. If you put someone new on the team, you have to baby them for a bit before you can use them. But a good rule of thumb to grinding (outside of trainers) is to find the highest wild Pokemon area where you can one shot everything (such as Amethyst Cave).

Like the others, I can't really recommend a used system, but if you have to go somewhere, Amazon is the place, but make sure you have read everything carefully. I've bought used systems before and most of the time, people get rid of them because they don't know how to clean them. Never bought a good, fully working used system before (until I clean it out). Games, on the other hand, I can recommend used. My gamestop has a selection from the gods and I never bought one from there that didn't work (and I've bought about 1/3rd of my game collection there). I buy very few games brand new which is how I can afford new systems. I've only had one semi defective game which is Metroid Prime that only works on the gamecube (the wii is too sensitive for it...don't ask me how that works). But honestly, how I budget my stuff is to pick up extra hours at work (which is half the reason I can afford all of these amiibo).
