  1. Voting for all of them! Oh wait that means we have to do extra work, welp guess we'll be extra busy.
  2. @seki108 on #8: Most of us agree, so its like the majority that think adding more gender based versions of certain evo lines would be a bad use of our time and even if we were to do it it would be so low on the priority list they wouldn't appear for a super long time. A few people feel really strongly about it but we'll worry about all the minor stuff later. Best starter group? Gimme gen 4 free. Might not all be competitively viable but flaming monkey, emperor penguin and Continental turtle is the best trio (even tough gen 5-6 themes are really good too)
  3. We should delegate poll responsibilities so 7 of us do one a week on the same day every week @Dypatome Also anyone that doesn't think cookie dough is the undisputed best ice cream flavor can catch this 6-0
  4. 1) Insurgence: With all the flaws in every fan game I find the least amount of obvious ones in Insurgence, delta mons and a two type league were game changers. They were lazy with some parts of development (i.e music) but more than made up for it elsewhere. 2) Uranium: Gorgeous world and custom UI, amazing creativity on the fakemon. You can tell it took this game years on years to be made. Not difficult but the story smashes anything a cannon game has ever done.
  5. 1. Dypa chocolate is overrated (fight me in the discord later). 2. Seki I don't think it's possible to get off topic here lol, post about stuff to your hearts content.
  6. Apple and Pumpkin are the only acceptable answers here. Anyone who disagrees can catch me and my lando-t on showdown. Edit: By god @seki108 is right.... where on earth is Pecan?!? @Dypatome you're fired. (kidding)
  7. Poll #3 http://www.strawpoll.me/14562863 And to add even more conversation, what Pokemon that don't have megas do you think should have one?
  8. Definitely not one for every legendary. The original idea was every trio or duo would have one but that isn't concrete. I don't want to spoil the number but there will be enough that you'll have to pick and choose which ones you want to use.
  9. We already have a guardian for the lake trio but I love this idea. We'll see if we can get it to work somehow
  10. I wonder who came up with such an interesting idea for a fan game..... Kidding. On a serious note since we are going to be using the official game thread for big showcases if anyone has any question about the game, development, it's features or how I went about the process you can ask me here. I'll give you the best responses I can and avoid spoilers.
  11. @Swamp King Yea this thread can be used to talk about the poll and what people picked and why etc. Go wild
  12. @Swamp King Looking better! I do enjoy the little details like the paws. Can I ask what all of the starters (or whatever they are) are based off of?
  13. So if people want to request certain guardian Pokemon I'm going to give a brief run down of what you should put in your request. Guardians correspond to a legendary Pokemon or group of legendaries that redeemed a Pokemon who suffered due to the war. Guardians are all duo type that will often times have a pseudo 3rd primary typing in the form of attacks. (A Pokemon blessed by the bird trio will have ice, fire and electric attacks). They also live in a specific area usually a natural landmark or in a far corner of Telius (The Northern guardian lives in the northern most part of the map as an example and the forest guardian will reside in the biggest forest) In short just give it affinity to a legendary or group of them, a typing and ability (can be the ability of a legendary as that Pokemon will be able to learn the signature moves of the Pokemon that blessed it.) Finally give it a location and some lore as to how it became a guardian. If we like the idea yours might make it into the game!
  14. Since I'm sure sprites will be a big point of discussion here once more people view the post I'll jump on the topic now. I think the mascot looks pretty sick, the starters have all the main pillars of a good fakemon, color, shading, proportions. My only problem is they may be a bit bland? With that being said I would like to remind people that good fakemon ideas and models don't just appear out of thin air (Uranium was in development for years upon years after all and a handful of their sprites are still subject to scrutiny.) So if this was the quality of all the Pokemon come the first release I'd be fine with that personally, I am sure that overtime you guys will get substantially better, I know the difference between my team's first and most recent fakemon is astronomical. Hope you guys can get something out of this and be prepared for all the incoming feedback and criticism. Cheers!
  15. Finally! I have been waiting for you guys to reveal your project since you guys helped me get mine going. Love the unique features and looking forward to seeing even more Fakemon and the changes to the Light type.
  16. One of the best sets of fakemon starters I've seen. Can't wait to play the game and see the evolutions. You guys are in for a treat when you see some of the stuff @Giantsparrowbee has planned.
  17. I'm kind of late to the party on this one, but besides all the great advice everyone else gave. (thundaga's channel and the topics in this part of the forum are a great starting place!) I just wanted to add that practice really does make perfect when it comes to making a game. Tutorials will teach you the basics but all the advanced stuff comes from your own manipulation of essentials and pushing it to the limits of what the code can do, so just play around with events and interactions to see what works and what doesn't. Sprites and tile making takes tons of work, (we have 15 people to give feedback and criticism for all the sprites and stuff made in our game) so I recommend posting here or asking specific people for feedback when you make your first few until you get the hang of it. Someone said you should make a short game before beginning a full project and although I agree you can always start your project and go back to fine tune things after the initial demo when people can give you feedback. Don't really want to type an essay here but if you ever need help with anything and can't find a quick answer feel free to PM me I'd be glad to help!
  18. I'm happy to see this topic, was going to make a dev talk post about music before I decided to discontinue that series. From a game dev standpoint a good soundtrack is huge. When reviewing games people often give you props for having a great music that fits the mood of the game. Music should add to the immersion and overall gaming experience thus making for a higher quality game. In terms of variety it depends on the game and the atmosphere and what not of whatever area or scene is in question. Unique soundtracks also help you standout from games who all use the same music (whether that be default essentials or strictly Glitch). From a player standpoint it's good to have but core game-play and such is much more important when you are prioritizing things for your game. Music can be the icing on the cake to a masterpiece but will probably never be the thing that makes or breaks your game. In game mechanics and story typically define that. I personally dislike use of essentials music only as it seems like laziness on the part of the devs. Talking from experience it doesn't take that long to find appropriate music for specific areas and scenes. But on the same token a lot of people listen to there own music or multi-task when playing games so it should still be on list of things to do but farther a bit down. Hope this and everyone else's input help you out!
  19. @Decidueye101 Hey man game looks and sounds great from what you've posted. As a dev myself I just wanted to save you some heat and say you'll want to take anything created by Luka SJ off of your features. My team got in some trouble recently over that so just letting you know.
  20. I believe there is a fan game or ROM hack that takes place in a time before almost any advances in tech for the Pokemon world existed. Using that as a frame conceptually making a game in slightly more advanced but not fully developed era isn't hard assuming you have the creativity for it. As mentioned above the problem lies in making all the tiles and art for such a time period.
  21. Lets not keep bringing up old post please, any relevant info on this topic can either be pm'd to me or one of the other devs or posted in the main thread. Note: our "evil" (not really evil but you know) team leader will not have a silly team. But if you aren't going to fight them until say your team is in the 70's I have no problem with them having a legendary, mega and a psuedo. As an example if team boss X had Darkrai and mega garchomp with some other strong mons I fail to see how that challenge is too much, the entire late and post game of insurgence has many fights where the ai's team is bonkers and no one complains because their team is equally if not more OP.
  22. Making a script that breaks an existing script is the bane of my developing existence.
  23. To avoid turning this into a short essay, I have the history of the region and all major events of the war written down as well as why the king is the way he is and the information on his son. I didn't publicize all of that since I'm walking a line between wanting to hear people's opinions but not giving people the entire plot before they play the game which I know isn't optimal. If anyone wants the entire scope of the world lore just pm and we could discuss it sometime. As always thanks for the input. Edit: The king was not known to have any children as he was fairly young, thus the members of the evil team and a few others are 1. the only ones to know about his existence and 2. the only ones who support him. In terms of plot splits I had 2-3 major splits written. Most of this is just in response to what @Octavius posted.
  24. I try to stay away from the forums for a bit but everyone who comments on my topics are just too helpful. Anyways @Octavius my word choice wasn't the best here, when I said to varying degrees, we originally planned a 5 degree system which would be only a bit more work than what you suggested, but you are absolutely right that it is probably better to focus our time and energy on other parts of development. Rewards being determined by decisions is definitely happening. As mentioned above a lot of the rep system won't affect the main plot besides 3-4 critical points.
  25. @Nyarth I think with a bit of creativity or help from others making a new system wouldn't be that hard. We've all played other games or watched shows with interesting stories that could be fitting to be turned into a Pokemon game. The example I made I just came up with on the spot.
